Nice video! Hi my name is Ericson Morris from Lisbon,IA and I live on the Clinton Subdivision that goes through Marshalltown,IA to Clinton,IA. I have grandparents that live in Nevada,IA and they live on a track called the Spine Line that connects from Kansas City to St Paul,MN.
nice video, i usually go there if there is something good on the CN. I live near the UP line so i catch traffic on there and post it on youtube from further south of here. btw, the location is called Jay , because that tower in your video (now gone) was Jay Tower.
My question is if you spend to much time there is the local PD or railroad PD going to pay a visit. I would really like to spend more time there but from what i read it is kinda off limits to go to the diamonds. I wished it wasn't.
Of the 6 times I have gone to Chicago Heights, only one time I was visited by railroad police. The only reason they stopped was because it was apparently railroad safety week, and a bunch of railroad cops were swarming Chicago Heights looking for any trespassers. Even though there is a camera at the diamonds, I don't think it is actively watched, Because the other 5 times I was there, I spent several hours, and no police showed up. As long as you park your car and stay a decent distance from the tracks, chances are you won't get called in. At least that's how my experiences have gone. As soon as I hear a train horn from a train that's about to show up in a minute, I go to my spot where I'm going to shoot it, and I stay put till it passes. If you really want to play it safe, bring a scanner.
@@Railroadfan5383 Okay thanks for the advice im looking for my next 24 hour location, I would like to do one there i have done Dolton Jct back in 2008 got 140 movements, I would like Chicago Heights i wasn't sure if it was okay. I would also like Wellsboro but for the same reason i haven't. My first time to Chicago Heights was back in 1989. But only for a few hours each time.
In the immediate area around the junction you should be fine, there's really not a whole lot of people around. There's not a whole lot of pedestrians around the area either, but if you want to play it safe just don't go outside your car on the streets where there's houses. If you're driving around on Main Street in Chicago Heights, you'll be safe. Just don't stop at any Shady gas stations, if you want food or gas, Drive about 10 minutes north to Homewood and that's much safer
Thank you, And eventually yes I will be uploading stuff. Maybe not soon though, As it takes a lot of work to edit and I don't have a lot of time. I've got hundreds of videos to edit so stay tuned
I am sad that Metra is taking our F59PHI's away fron down here in Socal. 459, 450, and 454 are in Chicago. If 459 is not, she is leaving this Month. That was my favorite F59PHI. The first one also
For freight train action its pretty busy. Parking in the open area on the Southwest side of the junction is technically trespassing but no one will bother you if you keep your distance from tracks. The railroad police might kick you out but they dont actively check the area.
Yeah, still possible recommend staying a safe distance. I came up here before to watch trains at a diamond with my family and they told me I was a trespasser and said I will be fined if I go near the tracks again.
Man I wish those barns weren't stored! Also, the KCS ghost was epic! Must be a pretty decently busy junction there
Yes it is decently busy and You would enjoy coming here
Nice catches! Hope to go there one day
1:00 love seeing them reaction motors suspension work

Great video!
0:33 looks like the lights are very close to each other. Very unusual. Never seen something like that
The ditch lights? The CN C40-8Ms have ditch lights like that.
I never seen a CN from the front maybe that's why I didn't know.
Is this roughly a safe area to railfan in the Chicago area?

Excellent footage beginning at 2:03. Cool!
Nice video! I don’t have any plans to go to Chicago anytime soon, but for future reference, how good is this as a place to railfan?
