There's just something exciting about the idea of buying your own plot of land and building a lil self-sustaining bunker. It's like when you were a kid and you'd go out into the woods and "build" a "den"
Cody should get few of those cheap wifi cameras and place them in random spots. Then connect some cheap phone with internet and stream it we could all watch this place 24/7. Those cameras and phone can be put in some wooden case just to prevent snow from falling on top. As for temperature I had few of those and they worked in -10*C but additional wooden case can help with that.

When I was about 14 my brother and I use to play in the back part of moms country property. We would spend hours daily building forts digging holes, and playing in the trees. Cody at the chicken hole reminds me of those days. Play on Cody... Play on!

To avoid seeds, try and find some Mushroom Compost. The mushroom farms have to sanitize whatever they get (including destroying the viability of any seeds). You can be assured that there's no seeds, pesticides, herbicides, etc. as those all interfere with mushroom growing. Then you get more control over what organisms go into your system.
Loving this series. I just wanted to address your solar charging situation - be careful with the exposed terminals on the battery, especially underneath the (possibly metal) panel. Maybe clear the brush in the vicinity down to dirt so your base doesn't go up in flames.

You can find land insanely cheap. The trouble is its REALLY in the middle of nowhere and owned by blm. Its usually land like this in high desert with not many trees.
And you still have to pay taxes and follow random ordinances unfortunately. And since there are no jobs to buy and ship in groceries, you basically have to be rich unless your a farmer and can sell some of that food.

@@Lrzingano Liquid metal mirrors are used to look straight up. Liquids tend to obey gravity a little too much to tilt without distorting (or spilling).
Water storage tanks also make excellent underwater habitats, being that they're engineered to withstand the weight of water pulling down while on land without deforming significantly, so they can also withstand the buoyancy of air pulling up while the tank is submerged. I would love to see somebody with your resources tackle a project like that.

I'm curious to see how you're gonna create power, my first assumption is that you use 100w solar panels and connect them in parallel and use 12 volt high amp hour batteries and a inverter to make mains 120 voltage
I will invert only when It’s required for a device. Otherwise I’m going for a direct current low voltage system like my grandpa used. It’s more efficient (no inversion losses) and safer.
Get a Noco boost charger, they are 20 bucks, you can keep near your inverter to rapidly charge your battery at 3 amps! All you would have to do is wait til the day. I am doing a ton of battery research, please let me know if you need anything specific. The stuff you already have can run tons of phone-like devices for weeks without sun, but you get so much of it. It would be very feasible for you to have remote access to your cameras and collect data and run your farming. If you get a metal box, I would definitely recommend getting a big Valence battery. You would start off with having that 100 watts around the clock. Excited to see you build awesome and sustainable stuff out there!

It would be very feasible for you to have remote access to your cameras and collect data and run your farming. If you get a metal box, I would definitely recommend getting a big Valence battery. You would start off with having that 100 watts around the clock. Excited to see you build awesome and sustainable stuff out there!

Dark at ‘only’ 7 o’clock? Where I live it’s properly dark by 4.30 at this time of year.

Cody remember that scorpions love to curl up in the bottom of boots that are left sitting on the ground. Also with evidence of a lightning strike, it might be wise to get a 30 foot pole and put it in the ground some ways away from your base and make sure to keep a good 10 foot circle around it clear of any grasses.

@@electronJarvs people have previously used nothing but a picture/video pointing up at the sky to figure out the location of the camera. a picture taken w/ geolocation enabled and posted through a service that doesn't automatically strip that would be infinitely easier than that.
