    Before you start the MAM, I'd recommend upgrading to experimental version (if you haven't already) where they included a controllable fluid valve, which will reduce MAM footprints by a good margin. Also, I know your time is precious but it would be awesome if your build is a true MAM and not a MAAM (Make ALMOST Anything Machine). If it doesn't include pins, crystals and gaps, it's not a MAM! :)

      @@uncensored1948 Yes, I was hesitant to upgrade last night but everything was totally fine. They recommend backing up your save just in case, but I'm too lazy to locate the save folder. And I don't care about saves as much as I care about blueprints!

    If your diagonal extractor is going to have two outputs, you'll need to balance them in some way if at any point you intend to bring them back together.

    When I've made platforms with six sets of machines on two levels, I like to put the machines on the 1st and 3rd level, using the middle for interconnects as needed.

  • @Liwet.
    @Liwet. 4 місяці тому

    If you have to use multiple levels for a shape-modifying build, you're going to have to route belts around it anyways so you might as well use all 3 levels in order to minimize it's footprint.

    A M.A.M. series sounds interesting. I've used 1 that another player posted on the Steam guides. Fun to watch, but slow. Does 4 belts at a time. The train inputs need work. Would love seeing something built from scratch. Bonus points for being able to handle crystals, though that should probably be a separate version that can be added later.

    The diagonal swapper was something I figured out myself: I still have a blueprint that takes 4+4 lanes and spits out 8 lanes... in a 1x1 cell. Sure, I don't rotate half the output so it produces 2 shapes. But it serves the purpose I need it to serve. And I'm just insanely proud I managed to fit it in a 1x1. (This was whilst I only had 2 levels unlocked, so at the time, this was a 'max throughput' build)

    • @coastermad13
      @coastermad13 3 місяці тому

      I built 3 versions all in a 1x1 cell. Inner 6 to 12, outer 6 to 12 (so I can do 12 to 24 in 2 cells), then 12 to 12 so it uses half but even spread

    Weirdly ive developed a mountain of swappers for shapes and colours, one space belt or 2, diagonals etc etc that are more condensed than a lot of uour designs. Or way more adaptable. But the colour mixer and painter i stole as i seem to be rubbish at fluids

      The answer is using the Swapper, in a manner that doesn’t cut through the join between like crystal quarters (which would break them), as basically this whole video demonstrates. You can’t drop them in the stacker so the swapper is the only option.

      It's just a matter of building a different pattern on the three layers. RB+G on the lower layer. RG+B on the middle, BG+R on top.
      You can basically do this with his existing designs by not connecting the layers and routing colors differently on each layer

  • @tartansilver5428
    @tartansilver5428 4 місяці тому

    hey you know you could have just made one half of the build have both outputs rotated the same way and the other half the opposite way and then you would be able to feed the outputs together rather then having to spaghetti them out and still have equal outputs of both shapes... or you could orient the whole build the same way and just rotate one of the outputs with one of your rotator city blocks to get the other orientation back again that way you don't have to trash the one side if you aren't using it.

    Hey Nilaus! Glad to hear you'll be taking your shot at a MAM! I can't wait!
    If you would care for a challenge, here's something I've been thinking about:
    Most MAMs are made with the intent of building the two randomly generated operator shapes, and make use of the global signal transmitters and receivers, usually using half of the channels on each MAM so that you can build them in pairs and deliver both shapes in parallel.
    There is a possibility of design a MAM that receives a multiplexed signal bus as an input, and runs it through a de-multiplexer, using this to decide which shape to build. A constraint of this design would be the necessity of using only wires, since sending multiplexed signals on transmitters can bug sometimes (due to how the game updates logic outside of rendered regions of the map).
    This would generalize the design so that it can be used to receive as input either one of the random operator shapes, or any input you wish to send it (Think a blueprint with all tasks/milestones on signal generators, being transmitted through a single wire with a multiplexer). This could be a fun challenge, although I haven't yet tried implementing any of that hahaha.

    • @paulohsa22
      @paulohsa22 4 місяці тому +1

      Another thing to consider is that the efficiency of a MAM can be measured in the following metrics:
      - Footprint: Larger builds usually mean less UPS efficiency and a larger delay from shape assignment and first shape delivered. That is not always the case, though, as some buffers can decrease first shape delivery time, for example.
      - Throughput: How many space belts the MAM can deliver after saturation.
      - Time until saturation: How long does it take from the instant the MAM receive the signal of which shape to build until the moment it can deliver it's full throughput. This metric falls in relevancy the longer you go, as the percentage of time spent on this "reset" phase will eventually decrease due to the amount of shapes needed for the random operator shapes always increasing.
      eg: If it takes 5minutes to fully saturate your MAM, and you only need 1000 shapes to complete the goal, those 5 minutes are a pain. But if it takes 100k shapes, those 5 minutes suddenly don't matter that much anymore.

    • @paulohsa22
      @paulohsa22 4 місяці тому +1

      And one last thing:
      It's super cool to try and build a MAM using incremental steps based on game progression/difficulty.
      This means that you assume a "lowest tech possible" for your MAM and build something that would work on that design space. It can be as simple as "you need wires and all basic machines for this step". Then you assume a reasonable step up on the tech tree and build a "second stage" MAM that uses the first one, like "now you need primary collors" or "now you need trains". And you keep going up iteratively, without ever changing or destroying previous steps, so by the end you have a set of blueprints that can be placed on top of each other and will work from an arbitrary startup position untill the endgame!

    what happen with the last white color design?

  • @Liwet.
    @Liwet. 4 місяці тому +2

    You should use secondary colors to make white paint otherwise your primaries won't be used equally. Your current white build uses double the amount of blue compared to red and green.
    A build that uses all 3 primary colors to make 3 secondary colors can be copied using 3 secondary colors as inputs for the copy to get your white.

    At this point, it was more efficient to make, maybe on a 3x3 platform, a 4 belt imput/4belt output white paint blueprint. With this 3 input/2 output you actually lose space. (you will need 6 Inputs to have 4 outputs). You can do better, nilaus.
