I’d rather fly JAL since they offer airport lounge access to PE customers. AA does NOT. It makes a huge difference and totally compensates for not-so-good inflight meals. I did have to learn the hard way that even if you book your PE ticket with JAL, but the flight is actually serviced by AA, you do NOT get lounge access. Luckily, the JAL Sakura Lounge staff at HND made a one-time exception and allowed me in. Just have to be more careful with flight booking from now on.
Sorry about the late reply, but I have another channel, and sometimes seems things get things mixed up and I don't get notifications some. Answer is both had similar knee to leg space in Premium Economy but I liked the food on American better, surprisingly. Of course, international flights have better food and bigger planes.
