  • About one-third of women have hair loss (alopecia) at some time in their life; among postmenopausal women, as many as two-thirds suffer hair thinning or bald patches. Hair loss in women typically has a larger impact than hair loss does on males w, since it's less socially acceptable for them. Alopecia may significantly damage a woman's emotional well-being and quality of life.
The major kind of hair loss in women is the same as it is males. It's termed androgenetic alopecia, or female (or male) pattern hair loss. In men, hair loss normally begins above the temples, and the receding hairline ultimately forms a recognisable "M" shape; hair at the top of the head also thins, frequently proceeding to baldness. In women, androgenetic alopecia begins with progressive thinning at the part line, followed by increased widespread hair loss spreading from the top of the head. A woman's hairline rarely recedes, and women rarely grow bald.
There are several potential reasons of hair loss in women , including medical disorders, drugs, and physical or mental stress. If you observe unexpected hair loss of any type, it's vital to consult your health care physician or a dermatologist, to establish the reason and proper therapy. You may also wish to seek your doctor for a referral to a therapist or support group to treat emotional concerns. Hair loss in women may be upsetting, but recent years have seen an increase in options for managing with the condition.
