I've been pondering a trip to the Philippines for about a year and have watched a ton of videos, off and on, as my interest in visiting a country that is half a world's uncomfortable flying away waxes and wanes. I think that I have things generally planned: avoid Manila (fly into Cebu) and catch a hop to Iloilo City, which seems to be my speed. Thanks to this channel's videos, and the videos of a few other channels that also aren't blatant shills for Christian Filipina or churning endless loads of expat drama, I have formulated a comprehensive set of rules for the trip to keep myself out of trouble: 1) Avoid bars and walking streets. Comprehensive, right? 🙂 The rest of it is stuff I do anyway: check the vibe, head on a swivel, be myself. On the topic of this video, I have considerable empathy for these girls. My go-to channel is The Fuentes Family (she asks some tricky questions of her interviewees!), and I've definitely noticed a NBSB phenomenon in a culture in which 25 is "getting up there" and early 30's is "past prime." One particular Filipina girl tried to sell her services for a month to me for 2 million PH pesos and that’s equal to like £2K or more and I was like even though that’s not a lot for a whole month. I've been pondering a trip to the Philippines for about a year and have watched a ton of videos, off and on, as my interest in visiting a country that is half a world's uncomfortable flying away waxes and wanes. I think that I have things generally planned: avoid Manila (fly into Cebu) and catch a hop to Iloilo City, which seems to be my speed. Thanks to this channel's videos, and the videos of a few other channels that also aren't blatant shills for Christian Filipina or churning endless loads of expat drama, I have formulated a comprehensive set of rules for the trip to keep myself out of trouble:
1) Avoid bars and walking streets.
Comprehensive, right? 🙂 The rest of it is stuff I do anyway: check the vibe, head on a swivel, be myself.
On the topic of this video, I have considerable empathy for these girls. My go-to channel is The Fuentes Family (she asks some tricky questions of her interviewees!), and I've definitely noticed a NBSB phenomenon in a culture in which 25 is "getting up there" and early 30's is "past prime." If a woman gets passed over because she's too dark-skinned or her nose is too small or because she wants to finish college before dating or is the oldest and therefore responsible for her ENTIRE family, I can see the hard-nosed realism in monetizing her virginity as an asset.
I hate the perceived necessity of it. I like that you balanced the topic by pointing out that ALL relationships are transactional. However, I disagree with the overly reductive transaction that Taraban describes, in which the entire relationship revolves around sex. That may be true for 17 year olds, but it's less true for adults who know who they are, are comfortable in their own company, and who recognize that the rare relationship that is characterized by mutual trust, connection, and emotional intimacy also tends to be very, very good in the world of physical intimacy. But I recognize that I'm near-puritanical in this regard, that I want the whole enchilada or would rather be solo, which makes it so easy for me to follow Rule #1, above. 🤣😂😅
