I was scared away from ‘peateds' for a long while. I had tried a bottle of Laphroaig as a first dram and did not buy another bottle of peated for years! Then, I tried a Jura, a Springbank, a Talisker, a Caol Ila, and an Ardbeg. Today, I am ready to try the Lagavulin 8! In Virginia, in June 2024, a bottle of Lagavulin 8 costs $67.
@@Whiskycom I created a progression of the whiskeys, and I am working my way to Lagavulin 8. I am very interested in learning more about the different aromas and tastes. I’ll let you know once I try the Lagavulin 8. The L16 is far out of my price range!
I just got 8 and cracked the bottle and had a taste right away. It was terrible. Let it sit for 10 minutes and it and changed to lovely! Had that with a few of the bottle just opened. Ardbeg also. I believe they should be opened for a bit and recapped before trying a serious taste test. Just my opinion, there's something about a fresh bottle opening that's just not right until they have received air for a bit.
Just got my second bottle on sale(as always). Just as delicious as the first bottle i had. Very smoky and lots of delicate fruity notes as well as a respectfully high proof. Must have bottle if it goes on sale
A corporate decision by Diageo to cash in BIG on the popularity of Lagavulin combined with the increased demand for all whisky worldwide. Its being spread thin all over the world creating a 'scarcity'. And scarcity = FOMO = Profiteering.
So it pairs well with haggis then?😁 I see this all the time when I’m in the liquor store, but just never bought a bottle to try, because 8 years just seems so young for a scotch, let alone a peated one. I’ll give it a shot.
why do you mute the mouth noises when the liquid is in the mouth? Is it for those few annoying people who think it's annoying? A good rule of thumb is to understand that the more natural, the better. I love all those mouth noises and im happy your older videos were more natural.
You need to fire whoever runs this channel, get a new guy, maybe a young guy that knows current UA-cam and make him edit and focus on shorts as well. It is amazing how your channel is doing so poorly even tho it's one of the first whiskey ones and you have access to more whiskey than most people I would say.
Horst good to see you looking healthier again! Love your channel ❤
I got into whisky and always watched your videos, years and years on. Still here looking before I get a bottle to try myself - Cheers mate
I was quite surprised at how good the 8 year old was, after having the 16 first. And at half the price it is a great bargain and full of flavor.
Younger Islays tend to work very well for me. Not sure why!
@@utoobia The Ardbeg Wee Beastie is another example of that...if you havent tried it yet....
@@jtf2dan Thanks, yes, I was on that from it’s release. Part of the reason I like younger Islays. Been through 3 or 4 bottles.
Thank you for the review Horst.
Intriguing review. This one doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, but in light of your comments, I’d love to try it. Thank you!
Please review the Lagavulin 11 year old Offerman Charred oak cask !
Currently we don't have any bottles of the Offerman Edition in stock. If we get one in the future, we eventually will make a video about it
@@Whiskycom I hope you do get some! It’s a very good Lagavulin

And did you like the Lagavulin 8? Not as complex as the 16 year old, but still really nice.

Can someone explain to me why Lagavulin has almost doubled in price in the past 2 years?

Just got this today, hard to spend the money $70 where I am. but I really wanted to try a Lagavulin scotch
Thanks Horst! I appreciate you
amazing whisky very smoky

Peated scotches can perform very well even at a young ages, especially if you like a bigger smoke/peat punch 🥊
Just bought a bottle for Christmas, what makes this worth $20 more than my go to glenmorangie 10?
Spot on review, I prefer the 8-year-old to the 16👍
It is even better with a few drops of water.
Not bad, but it’s the price I used to pay for the 16 maybe 10 years ago. That’s a bitter pill to swallow
It's been ten years and for a 48abv the price is pretty good. The 16 is over a hundred in my area. So not a bad choice.
The 16 is so expensive now!!! During covid time it was £40 per bottle 😭
@@umami0247a lot of places are selling Lagavulin 8 for £60 now, and it was only 2 years ago you could get the 16 for that.
The 16yo is a very average whisky at best these days. This particular 8yo is the better whisky for me.
@@mendipfox1650 try the distillers edition lately?
Love Lagavulin 16 yr but not a fan of the 8 yr.

how 8 vs 16?
The Lagavulin 8 year is fine to start with, but the 16 year old is much more complex and offers way more aromas
Please include the sounds of the experience and stop editing the more natural review style. Please.
This one disappointed me. It's far too disillate forward for my whisky taste. It's hot. So much so that it hid its peat flavour.

hire new yuotube promo pesron and you will make gazillions!!!
Don't like it at all....raw,sharp sweet but lacks a real whiskey taste...Don't waste your money
