I think you recognized that Hannes is part of those who protect the walls. The scouts are different. They actually go outside. So Hannes never had to fight against any titans and he was afraid... And the city is Shiganshina, just as in the title. When you think back to the little sketch in the middle of the episode: three walls who form circles and each of them has little pockets. Shiganshina is in one of these pockets at the outside of Wall Maria. So they were right next to the "titan area". You can also see some smaller ttians at the wall in this episode. I saw that you have the next episode out already. So maybe you know all of this by now.

One of my biggest problems with the dub has been how much they alter and change the lines, even when it comes to some of the most iconic ones in the series, which leads to inconsistency when those lines are repeated later on in the series since the dub changed them originally it erases intentional call-backs in the dialogue. There's a famous instance where the dub for AoT creates a plot hole and if I remember correctly, the dub even references Shakespeare at one point which makes no sense for the worldbuilding. What makes this worse though is that even a lot of people who watch the subbed version, can't avoid the dub lines since Netflix last time I checked both just copy pasted the dub lines for the subbed version, so I've seen a lot of reactors who watch the subbed version but still end up reading the dub lines which sucks. This is for other commentators, don't read (it will not contain spoilers but maybe hints), In S1Ep4 Reiner and Annie talked about the whole situation of 'Soldiers', can any dub enjoyers explain why they removed that foreshadowing? This is not the only instance, there are many but I don't want to give any hints here anymore.

I feel like the english dub also does capture them but it's just a different way of watching something from its native language, it adds to the flavor.
I've been watching anime for over 30 years, long before it was so easy to access like it is now. The way I once heard anime was described was that the Japanese have very densely populated cities and they don't have a whole lot of room to film live action shows. So, they animated them. That being the case, any genre of show that you might find in the US is more than likely animated in Japan. That includes everything from rom-coms to dramas to porn. Anime is just the medium that is used to present the story, like book vs film or TV vs movie. You have animated movies as well as the series. The vast majority of the anime stories were originally published as manga. Quite a few of them may not animate the full story and you'd have to look up the original manga if you want to know what happens after the anime has ended. Of course, there are also a number of series that have the full manga animated. I think AoT is the complete series, though. It's a Post-apocalyptic action dark fantasy series. Emphasis on dark and action. Be warned, you will get to a point fairly quickly where there are a bunch of episodes that cover one specific point of the story and you will NOT want to stop watching until that part of the story is completely. The show is kind of notorious for cliff-hangers.
Don’t watch this in dub. The Japanese voice acting in this is one of the best to ever exist. I was excited to watch your reactions for this until I saw you’re doing the dub. Please fix this and you’ll get so many subscribers.
Up to you how u want to watch it but I strongly suggest watching with the original Japanese voice actors. Personally it's a rule of thumb for any anime, kdramas, etc- sub not dub. The English voice actors do a good job in this anime, but there's something about the Japanese voice acting that's on another level, particularly with some characters that will get introduced later on. There's one that's my favorite VA in this anime, she has a whole range from comedy to angry to somber... it's just irreplaceable. I've heard the English voice actress and her performance is nowhere near as good as the Japanese one.
"Let's stay lost, it's first episode...."' Hear hear 😂 I'd say, enjoy the confusion while it lasts, one of the charm of this show in my opinion is indeed the "feeling lost" in search for some answers. Not in a bad way, promise (hahaa), it's just the way they masterfully weave the story.
I'm seeing a lot of comments about switching to sub, I personally don't care. The English dub has its highlights as well. So pls just choose the one you are comfortable with
Please keep it in dub so i can listen like a podcast!!! No one else does and i would live to listen to yall on this journey!! Fyi episode 5 is my favorite😅
It is fine, reactions to the sub are already plentiful, i for a change am happy for any reaction for the English dub. Since i watch reactions during tedious tasks and cant read the sub, plus appreciate the reaction if something of note happens... The AOT community has a sad dog piling mentality, especially concerning the dub. The entire comment section is full with comments like yours... Sorry that i have singled you out specially, but after scolding trough like 20 of the same comment or sentiment, I just had to make my opinion be known. /Autism off
Don’t matter brother, they stayed with the eng dub so I haven’t watched their any other videos. There are more than enough channels reacting to AOT nowadays.
4:00 o my goodness I'm the same way! I can deal with anime dub but live action dub? 🤢 But I would say this anime especially is so much better in subbed. This is coming from watching in initially in English. I watched the first 3 seasons in English dub, then re-watched in Japanese and oh my goodness it hits different 😊
Im happy for that, it is much easier to appreciate the visuals if you actually understand the language beeing spoken... I watch a visual medium for a reason...
@@phpFreNZy read my comment again... I said it's easier, I have never said it's impossible... Considering that English is my third language, maybe there is some more time needed to process the words -.- Пока-пока 👋
Attack on Titan is my favorite anime and I was really excited for you to watch it but when you said "in dub" it's not a good idea really, it's the same reasons with other shows you mentioned, so pls watch it in sub bc everything is phenomenal in sub unlike the dub.
9:14 do you mean Eren and Mikasa were outside the walls when Eren woke up under the tree? No guys, they were not outside the wallys, it's still inside the walls
@@nissanfreak22everyone cares. The English dub changes characters and details. The main character Eren…. Is completely different in English and people stop watching because of how cringe and annoying the dub voice is. So no…. They should watch how the creator intended it and watch sub
Damn I was excited to see another new channel reacting to my favourite anime of all time but that excitement vanished the minute you said your doing dub. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate dub. I actually watch quite a few anime in dub, especially when I’ve already watched the whole anime in the original audio ( sub ) and wanna rewatch it again later yet can’t be bothered reading subs again BUT AOT for me is strictly SUB only. This is one of the anime where I will never watch it dubbed. The reason for this is because it simply has one the best line up cast of Japanese voice actors in the anime industry. They are some of the best of the best & I can’t imagine anyone but them being the voices of the characters in my favourite anime, especially Yuki Kaji who does Eren’s voice. Yuki Kaji is my favourite voice actor while Eren is my favourite anime/manga character of all time. I’m sure his English Voice actor does a good job in the dub but he will never be on the same level as Yuki ( who’s a goat ). To me Yuki is Eren, his voice is the only person I wanna hear voice Eren. No one else will do it for me. There’s another character down the line who is voiced by another one of my favourite voice actors and he’s my second favourite character in AOT. I know he has a pretty amazing dub voice actor according to other fans but I’m very biased towards his Japanese voice actor. Anyways I hope you guys enjoy the anime, a shame I won’t stick around to see your guys reactions but please when you have the time. Please rewatch it in your guys own time with the original audio ( sub ) and really appreciate the high quality voice acting from the Japanese voice actors
I can understand why you chose to watch in English. But just trust me the subbed version is way too good for this one. Also Armin is the one narrating the story. Loved all your theories but keep in mind you are going to have way more questions than answers. Looking forward to listening to all your thoughts till we complete this journey.
The title "to you in 2000 years" will make sense in the future. just keep watching it all the questions will be answered in the show. Attack on Titan is set in a post-apocalyptic world. When the wall broke it was the yesr 845 [the show has its own calendar and it has nothing to do with the 2000 years].
I'm definitely a subbed only watcher. But I can understand wanting to watch dubbed if you find it hard to watch the show, read the subs and keep up with what's happening. Years of kdrama and cdrama watching has trained my brain to multitask. 😅 For me dubbed anime just doesn't have the same impact. A lot of the emotion is lost if you don't have the right voice actors for the roles. I remember having to stop watching Tokyo Ghoul years ago because I got like 2 seasons in with subs, and then all I could find was dubbed, and it was awful. 😂🙈 AOT is pretty decent in terms of dubbing, but still not my preference. I'm sure there'll be horrified anime watchers in the comments saying it's a crime to watch the dubbed English version, but whatever works for you. Anyway no matter the language you go with, AOT is amazing, and I'm so glad you're watching it!
Oh yuck, the English dubs tell a much different and much stupider story. I personally find it too aggravating to even watch the English dubs. They are an insult to one of the best anime ever made.
Welcome to the cult. BTW, there are many reaction channels says AoT was the first anime they've watched... and then I've seen those channels become mostly anime reaction channels. You Have Been Warned! Enjoy the wild ride. BTW, "What a crazy first episode to kick things off with. " This doesn't even make the top 10 list of crazy episodes in AoT. Ref Subs vs Dubs. Most reactors do Subs. A dub (with subtitles I can read (bad hearing)) is a nice change of pace. 15:34 the bumps on the outer parts of the walls on the big cities - also walled. this episode takes place in a city on Wall Maria, all the way in the south. 20:54 "I want to see more faces" Some of the titans have faces based on the author's friends or celebrities. (wait for the Freddie Mercury titan!). Some titan behavior is based on how the author saw drunks act at bars.
Honestly, season 1 is not that complicated in comparison to the later seasons, but still I recommend you not down whatever drops of info you can cause it will come back later. I also recommend you switch to the original Japanese with subtitles. English dub makes some serious scenes goofy and just kills the vibe. The Japanese voice acting is far superior in this show in terms of conveying the characters' emotions. Even some of the iconic original conversations are altered and watered/dumbed down in the dub, when in the sub they are much more nuanced and deep.
Should we watch in SUB?! Watch and vote and help us decide here! 🙏🏻

The show is kind of notorious for cliff-hangers.
I really want to watch these animes with you again, but I wish if you could watch them in Japanese, it would be much more wonderful.😢❤️🔥
Daniel ?!!!??!?!! AOT and BTS are my two favourite things,?!?!?? I am going nuts ???? Please watch in dub though!!
Okay since i do follow u guys, like ccw. ILL GIVE THE DUB A CHANCE BUT I REALLY DO RECOMMEND SUB BECAUSE THE VOICE ACTORS ARE CRAZY....
First time watching anime, and you pick Attack on Titan? Holy crap, talk about jumping in to the deep end! You are brave men, I salute you.
I’ve been do excited for this! I can’t wait to see you guys make theories, enjoy it 🎉
Hannes never had to fight an actual titan because he always stayed within the walls. So this was the first time he saw one and got scared.
Omgggg im so excited to watch it with you!!! I’m pretty sure Daniel’s gonna love the OSTs 🥰
The lore behind AOT is 🔥🔥🔥
I’m ready for this journey! I recently started this series and I’m on season 3, you’re in for a treat :)
I’ve been waiting so long for this !!!!
I'm seeing a lot of comments about switching to sub, I personally don't care. The English dub has its highlights as well. So pls just choose the one you are comfortable with
great analysis and also glad you are doing the dub
This show is masterpiece of work
First time and starting with AOT ?! Starting off strong i see lol. You guys are in for a ride especially season 4 :)
Please keep it in dub so i can listen like a podcast!!! No one else does and i would live to listen to yall on this journey!! Fyi episode 5 is my favorite😅
I’m so glad you’re watching AOT Daniel, I had a feeling you would really enjoy it!
Highly recommend to watch it in Japanese, english dub don’t do the justice to this masterpiece
But I would say this anime especially is so much better in subbed. This is coming from watching in initially in English. I watched the first 3 seasons in English dub, then re-watched in Japanese and oh my goodness it hits different 😊
aot had one of the best japanese voice acting ever in anime and they chose dubs lol
Im happy for that, it is much easier to appreciate the visuals if you actually understand the language beeing spoken...
I watch a visual medium for a reason...
@@SuperUltimateLP lmao u thought people who read subs cant appreciate the visuals fully? i guess its a skill issue.
@@phpFreNZy read my comment again...
I said it's easier, I have never said it's impossible...
Considering that English is my third language, maybe there is some more time needed to process the words -.-
Пока-пока 👋
So exited for you guys to be watching this anime.
IN ENGLISH !!?!??! HELL NOO!!!
No one cares, get over yourself.
@@nissanfreak22A lot do care unless you can't read
@@nissanfreak22everyone cares. The English dub changes characters and details. The main character Eren…. Is completely different in English and people stop watching because of how cringe and annoying the dub voice is. So no…. They should watch how the creator intended it and watch sub
@@plaguedoctor5657 Thank you!!! Couldn't agree more.
Eweww it's a Dub haterrr 👊👊 let them watch what they want
It's truly a masterpiece.🙏
Plz plz plz I’m begging you to watch the sub version cuz it’s soooooo different😭
I can understand why you chose to watch in English. But just trust me the subbed version is way too good for this one. Also Armin is the one narrating the story. Loved all your theories but keep in mind you are going to have way more questions than answers. Looking forward to listening to all your thoughts till we complete this journey.
It’s my first anime too.. or maybe first in a looonng time. I watched Voltes V and Astroboy when I was younger 😁 Coming here from CCW Primos 💜
Yey! So excited for the new channel!
The title "to you in 2000 years" will make sense in the future. just keep watching it all the questions will be answered in the show. Attack on Titan is set in a post-apocalyptic world. When the wall broke it was the yesr 845 [the show has its own calendar and it has nothing to do with the 2000 years].
i hope this channel will grow as much as the other one, i sense more great and diversified content coming soon :)
Omg I watched y'all reactions to kpop but I didn't know about this channel
Niceeeee I've been waiting for this
I'm definitely a subbed only watcher. But I can understand wanting to watch dubbed if you find it hard to watch the show, read the subs and keep up with what's happening. Years of kdrama and cdrama watching has trained my brain to multitask. 😅
For me dubbed anime just doesn't have the same impact. A lot of the emotion is lost if you don't have the right voice actors for the roles. I remember having to stop watching Tokyo Ghoul years ago because I got like 2 seasons in with subs, and then all I could find was dubbed, and it was awful. 😂🙈
AOT is pretty decent in terms of dubbing, but still not my preference. I'm sure there'll be horrified anime watchers in the comments saying it's a crime to watch the dubbed English version, but whatever works for you.
Anyway no matter the language you go with, AOT is amazing, and I'm so glad you're watching it!
yesss AOT is my favorite anime ever !! you’re about to witness peak fiction
Can’t believe I’m 12 days late to this reaction! Can’t wait for the ride! Watch it the way you will best enjoy it. Otherwise what’s the point 🤷♀️
Oh yuck, the English dubs tell a much different and much stupider story.
I personally find it too aggravating to even watch the English dubs. They are an insult to one of the best anime ever made.
So excited for this! AoT is one of the all time greats!
AoT Subbed >>>>> AoT Dubbed
The subbed version is superior. You won’t regret it.
We excited ✌🏽
Its my first time seeing this in.English dub, Erens VA is kinda extraaa haha
Ооо,это будет очень интересно
I hope they switch to Japanese audio and English subs, I think it brings so much more
Noooooooooooo i was really hoping for them to watch it in Japanese, it just doesn't sound right in English 😭
A dub (with subtitles I can read (bad hearing)) is a nice change of pace.

the bumps on the outer parts of the walls on the big cities - also walled. this episode takes place in a city on Wall Maria, all the way in the south.

"I want to see more faces"
Some of the titans have faces based on the author's friends or celebrities. (wait for the Freddie Mercury titan!).
Some titan behavior is based on how the author saw drunks act at bars.
You gained new sub! Always excited to see another aot reaction! ❤❤ But please switch to japanese dub, it's way better than english dub.
You should watch Spyxfamily with Summer or Abby ❤
Omg yessss 💕
