@James Kennedy In defense of the "Jason X"-esque mask,it was clearly sloppily put together not long after Rex lost his sanity. Also,McCullen acted far more like the Destro we know and love to hate before this scene and the nanomite-infused mask combined with Cobra Commander`s electromagnetic signal forced him to his knees. This Cobra Commander is far more competent than virtually any of his Cartoon counterparts save perhaps the "Sigma Six" and "Resolute" incarnations. Now,was he executed perfectly? No,but there was potential for him to grow into a more traditional Cobra Commander that wasn`t a total laughingstock for once,a potential that "Retaliation" for all its many flaws made good on.

To be honest CGI hasn’t really changed much since 2009. Pretty much from 2005 and onwards they finally figured out the proper lighting tools for computer effects. Lemme get this straight. 1. Cobra Commander's mask is awful. 2. Destro is whiny. 3. Destro is....Scottish? 4. Cobra Commander sounds a lot like Destro from the cartoon series. Is it possible to have so many fails in one clip?
Suffer No Fools I’ve only seen the original cartoon so I’m not totally sure, but I thought his look was the same through at least most of them, where, as someone above mentioned, his entire chest and stomach is bare.
Even if they couldn't get Eccleston back, the character was already wearing a metal mask that could never be taken off. Any actor could've been chosen to play Destro at this point.
I wish a third movie would have been made. Destro could easily survive the explosion of the prison since he was protected in the space suit and in the liquid. He could return as a part of Cobra, but seeking revenge on the Commander and waiting the opportunity to seize power and get control of the nanites so he can have his free will again.
I don't think I ever burst out loud laughing harder in a cinema than when I saw this. I love Stephen Sommers films. They should let him make a Star Wars film.
It's a shame Destro was wasted in the sequel, he is a very important villain in the world of GI Joe as he is a very intelligent, powerful character and the right hand of Commander Cobra in the comics and in the animated series. Ever since the GI Joe '80s, Destro deserved better potential in GI Joe's hideous live-action films.
Yeah, I can't even comprehend their logic. Kill off an iconic character after literally 3 minutes of screen time in 2 movies (As Destro) Making up their own characters when they had plenty to choose from and also making up a new background story instead of using what was already established. Idiots. Complete idiots.
I love this Scene with The Origin of Cobra Commander and Destro, it gives a New Look on to Cobra Commander and Destro Team, this would explain why they don't trust each other
I truly understand why fans had such gripes with this incarnation of Cobra Commander It’s not the same look and takes a while for him to fully take the name But they made a believable choice here with the nanomites changing Destro’s face rather than a silly mask
The Cobra Commander in Retaliation is much more faithful to his comic/cartoon counterpart than this trash you call "Cobra Commander" here. Damn you Stephen Sommers.

*_COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAA_*
GO JOE!
I definitely prefer Cobra Commander's Classic hood/helmet look but for some reason I actually kinda liked his appearance from this movie
"This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so."
Yes, commander :)
watched this in theaters, was expecting somewhat of a real cobra commander, like in retaliation, and in the theater, as soon as he turned around I went what the hell is that
+Brandon Gries think that was the first time I laughed out loud in a theater at a supposedly serious moment.
Just saw this movie for the first time a week ago. I haven’t laughed at something this over the top since Spider-Man 3 😂😂😂
I loved Joseph Gordon Levitt performance was so villainous.
The Greatest heel actor role was so splendid. Truly enough.
This entire movie feels like a fever dream.
True
Bro what happened to these movies?!?!? they were stupid fun and were a blast to watch!
I liked Destro's new look... Commanders... less so.
i see what you did there ^
I'm so clever!
Gary V Naw, I'm perfectly fine.
You troll are always so amusing to me. You think that I'm gonna go home and cry myself to sleep from your comment, when in reality, I'm thinking.
"What a worthless sack of shit. You don't even know how to spell properly."
You should go home and rethink your life.
Jason Alcatraz No, in fact you are the one trolling. You could've just ignored me, but no, you lash out at me. Hypocritical much? It seems at the end of the day you are no better than me.
You find trolls amusing, yet feel the need to reply and feed them, the only sack of shit here is YOU who wants attention.
Rethink life you say? Atleast I have one. You, on the other hand are nothing but a fodder for trolls, a hypocrite and an attention seeker.
By default, this makes YOU the troll. Haha, bye.
Gary V, Jason Alcatraz shut up, both of you.
When you remember a nightmare and it takes you back to this
Lemme get this straight.
1. Cobra Commander's mask is awful.
2. Destro is whiny.
3. Destro is....Scottish?
4. Cobra Commander sounds a lot like Destro from the cartoon series.
Is it possible to have so many fails in one clip?
*****
Obviously, you know more about G.I. Joe than I do but I always thought the cartoon portrayed him as having black origin.
ErwinSchrodinger64 What? You know that area on his front is his caucausian bare chest, right?
I actually prefer Cobra Commander's voice here. sorry but It's hard for me to take someone seriously if they sound like Starscream
@@ErwinSchrodinger64 he had a black voice acter.
Suffer No Fools I’ve only seen the original cartoon so I’m not totally sure, but I thought his look was the same through at least most of them, where, as someone above mentioned, his entire chest and stomach is bare.
I'll get you next time, Gadget...next time!!!
LOL
Wish Destro was in the second movie
He is...and promptly let go by his imployer...while still being imprisoned .
@@cashomnitrix yeah that was dumb
Even if they couldn't get Eccleston back, the character was already wearing a metal mask that could never be taken off. Any actor could've been chosen to play Destro at this point.
I wish a third movie would have been made. Destro could easily survive the explosion of the prison since he was protected in the space suit and in the liquid. He could return as a part of Cobra, but seeking revenge on the Commander and waiting the opportunity to seize power and get control of the nanites so he can have his free will again.
You will call me Commander.
Destro: so what's next.
We take over the world.
GI Joe!
Aw fack.
Destro looked awesome...... Sadly he was kicked out Retaliation within thirty minutes.......
You are now Destro! Oh wait...
Thats one reason why retaliation is worse
Destro is absolutely fantastic here.
(read in a northern English accent)
Funny you should say fantastic since the actor playing Destro is 9th Doctor himself from Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston.
mkaplan1383 That's the whole pun. I'm a Whovian and am well aware of this fact.
I don't think I ever burst out loud laughing harder in a cinema than when I saw this. I love Stephen Sommers films. They should let him make a Star Wars film.
How I'd use this idea in a TMNT movie: (even though this is G I Joe)
MUTANT: W-Who are you?
KRANG: they call me... *reveals face* Kraang.
Christopher was awesome in this!!
0:57 James McCullen is no more. Now, you are Destro.
Always gets hyped whenever this lines says by him!
This GI Joe movie was well made
Wow. I have not seen this movie yet, but I gotta say, I love this over the top Cobra Commander!
No you're not Cobra Commander go home drunk
Man this gives me NOSTALGIA.
The commander’s sound so devious, cool, and intense. I love it
I agree.
They were going to give the commander his iconic hood, but it was stated to be controversial!
Now THATS what I call the man in the iron mask
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Exactly!
rise up and got into jail :/ that is one sad ass thing
+Eddie Au It was all part of the plan...
1:27 main villain reveals himself cliche
I actually like how he look :(
But he's better in part 2
So "Cobra Commander" turns james into chrome dome Destro only to kick him out of Cobra in the next movie
that cgi looked so terrible lmao, also glad they changed how the commander looked in the 2nd film
This was a "so bad its great" moment where you give up the 10% of hope you had for the movie and just enjoy it 😄
I really like the look of cobra commander in this scene
I love this Scene with The Origin of Cobra Commander and Destro, it gives a New Look on to Cobra Commander and Destro Team, this would explain why they don't trust each other
BennyG I really dig it too, but only if he wasn't Cobra Commander.
I truly understand why fans had such gripes with this incarnation of Cobra Commander
It’s not the same look and takes a while for him to fully take the name
But they made a believable choice here with the nanomites changing Destro’s face rather than a silly mask
Well I liked this movie. It's just fun popcorn entertainment and is not meant to be a masterpiece.
It could have at least respected the source material.
Commander was givin me darth Vader vibes
what Dr doom should've looked like
Doom is supposed to wear a mask, not have a metal face.
@@flagflow1232 to be fair... destro's mask does move with his mouth and face in the cartoons and comic. So they're not too far off really.
This movie may not have been good, the physics is terrible, but his mask is petty nice.
JGL pulled it off quite well - I thought
Not the best mask for Cobra Commander, but the voice was perfect.
It's the ninth doctor!
Those masks were INCREDIBLE.
The Cobra Commander in Retaliation is much more faithful to his comic/cartoon counterpart than this trash you call "Cobra Commander" here. Damn you Stephen Sommers.
***** Yeah, these movies sure don't do the cartoon and Marvel comic books justice.
Cobra Commander and the Baroness are brother and sister and Duke happens to be her ex-fiancee? These movies are such chick flicks.
Also, besides their code names, all the Joes looked like ordinary jarheads who were stationed in Afghanistan and didn't remind me of their characters at all.
+PRLostGalaxy2014 You are an idiot if you think that the cobra commander in Retaliation was more faithful to the cobra commander in this movie. Rise of Cobra is a good movie. Retaliation sucks balls
Word!
