Idk if I pulled or strained my hamstring. I'm thinking I strained it because when I was deadlifting i felt a popping sensation in my left hamstring. It's not the worst pain, I can still walk with a slight limp, and I can still bend my knee with no pain, but there is some discomfort when I straighten my leg out or if I try to bend over and pick up something. Gonna use these tips and hope for the best

Hello, My name is Faith Martin, and I am eighteen years old living in Southern California. I have been dealing with chronic body pain for almost a year now. I fell on a treadmill last early August and dislocated my pelvis/hip alignment and all of that. I thought I broke my hand at the same time however, so I continued to work out weightlifting like I had been doing before I fell on treadmill. Pain began to show up in lower left glue ham tie in/ischial tuberosity area, which I now know after seeing MANY doctors and a good PT that it is most likely hamstring tendonitis. The left leg butt/glute still flares up a little time and again but not horrible. I can usually deal with it with ice. As with any tendonitis, good PT and progressively challenging the muscle is essential. I have been doing that for about 3 months to address the left ischial tuberosity tendonitis and it has improved A LOT. Continuing issues however that I have been unable to resolve, and my current PT cannot seem to resolve, is chronic pain/muscle tightness/spasm in the right leg, which is quite odd considering I never directly injured that leg. Theories include incorrect gait walking due to pelvic/hip misalignment, hip flexor tightness, TFL tightness, IT band, the list goes on and on. I have tried every single type of therapy under the sun. Chiropractor, PT, acupuncture, electroshock therapy, massage therapy, percussion, etc. and my right leg continues to be tight like it is sore and I have worked my right quad to death. I also have chronic flare ups of neck pain/tightness, which is so bad some days that I have to stay in bed. No idea what causes it and it is nearly unbearable. Muscle relaxer pills/advil don’t help long term in the way that I need them too. I still feel pain even when I take them. I realize this is a lot of info and quite overwhelming but I just wanted to catch you up on my story and have you be able to get an idea about whether you can help me or not. Thank you for taking the time to read all this. Please respond, anything is appreciated. Do you think this could be a nerve tension problem (in terms of right leg)? Also, Within the past 5 weeks it has seemed to calm down and go away ish but I just went to the gym and tried to do old exercises but with like such low weight. how can I tell if my hamstring is just sore from a workout or if it is a tendonitis flare up? Thank you. I am all out of money to pay other PTs and all the other doctors… I am desperate. Blessings, Faith Martin Jeremiah 29:11
Thank you I pulled my hammy 3 times in the last two weeks I clearly was doing everything wrong in recovery. I was stretching then it felt good then I started running again and pulled it. Clearly, I need to do everything in this video.

Playing senior softball and boom. Never experienced that before. Something that was recommended to me and I found very helpful for managing the pain was a portable PEMF device put out by KT Tape and Don Joy Braces among others. It looks like just a simple wire ring with a switch on it to turn it on and off. I was able to remain pretty active with that little device and at my advanced age, that's a positive!
Great video. Everything goes along with all the techniques that I have done. I guess I am on the right path, but it is always good to find people with experience that can validate that what I am doing is right. I will recommend your UA-cam site to a couple of friends that may benefit from it.
Thanks again guys for this helpful tip🔥🔥🔥🦅. My hamstring feeling a little better now after accidentally slipping on my living room floor, and stretching my left hamstring.
I like to say I’m very very flexible and one time I dropped into splits without stretching before hand. So I pulled my hamstring. It was on my good leg too. I want to get better.
I tore my hamstring in Taekwondo a couple years ago and it healed and it’s been good ever since because I constantly stretch before kicking but the one day I didn’t stretch (today) it tore again and man it hurt! Thanks for the video and information it’s gonna be very helpful!
todd mayta Well now it’s technically both LOL because the same thing happened to my other hamstring about six months ago 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ but the first time was my kicking leg
Never had an issue but finally today felt a pop on RDLs today, had 140kg on the bar usually no issues for me but stopped straight away and now I guess I have to rest up
I still can’t stretch without re injuring myself and it’s been eight years. I stopped track for the season and never did therapy for the injury. I just stopped working out and never got back into it because the injury would come back every time.
I pulled my hamstrings 3 times last year due to extensive stretching. The 3rd time I had to take complete rest for like 6 months without stretching or work out. Now again, some few days ago, heard the pop sound again while stretching and I was heavily warmed up. I just can't understand why my hamstrings keep on getting pulled and if I don't pass out my limits, I'll never be able to do my other splits.
@@zaynahchummun668 I'm researching the same thing. You have to be careful if you're female because high estrogen times of the month make your joints vulnerable. I have reinjured my hamstrings like 3 times now because I went a few years after an injury without official rehab. I am now going to a structural massage therapist and PT because I'm serious. I need to know what the heck is wrong with my body that I keep getting these pulls!
@@zaynahchummun668 Stretching might not be the key- strengthening it might be. From what I understand, weak muscles are tight at length, so if you strengthen them you will get more comfortable in those ranges of motion and protect yourself from injury.
Thank you for posting these videos Bob and Brad. I've been watching your channel for years now and it's helped me alot in my work. I'm a circus performer so this information is more valuable than gold. Thanks again :)
Can you guys do a hamstring recovery video for those who went through ACL reconstruction with a hamstring graft...? Just went through the surgery and would really appreciate it!
What he described is literally what happened to me. I was playing softball with my daughter and running to 1st base. Then immense pain in the back of my thigh. It sucks.
Literally the same thing happened to me today and when he said that I laughed so hard. How was your recovery? I want to be back out in the field next week but maybe I should rest.
definitely think I pulled my hamstring, or tore it idk without xray or mri. but this video was very helpful along with my understanding of the body and anatomy.
I did the same thing! Only, I was sprinting outside. I was done, walking inside the building to get my bag and go home but I decided one more sprint..... I felt my left hamstring start spraining so I stopped real fast(not good). This totals 5 hamstring injuries. 3 on right leg, 2 on left. I’m a soccer player so it’s common. I’m currently in recover. Will try these exercises! Thanks for the vid
Super Pulseadas Armwrestling lay on your back and bend your knees like your about to do a crunch. Then make a bridge by pushing your pelvis to the ceiling until your glutes and hamstrings contract. Do 3 sets of 10-15 reps. If you feel pain, just stop and rest. I’d recommend a foam roller as well so you can get rid of the knots in your hamstrings. Hope this helps man, hamstring strains are the worst..... keep in mind that if your hamstrings are over worked then other muscles like your abs and glutes and even lower back are not doing their job. I learned all this from these guys, years of experience with hamstrings, and most importantly “Athlean-x” on UA-cam. Search his videos, they are the best I’ve seen.
Super Pulseadas Armwrestling no problem! Hope you make a full recovery and never have a sprain again! Also look at anterior pelvic tilt videos! Good luck!
after my volleyball practise i injured both of my hamstrings constantly getting cramps, its swollen and walking around the campus is hell i hope it heals fast
My hamstring popped on the basketball court and I face planted . Due to never feeling a pop before I felt like I tore it but after 3 days , it's still painful but I'm walking better and the bruising is down so I believeits a strain . So hopefully this helps so I can get back into my routine 💪🏼👏🏼
Thank you for sharing.I am 67 still playing racquetball and you guess it pulled it last Sunday and just getting to walk with less pain but still hurts and is 4 days later
Everyone's recovery is different and unique. You can start increasing the intensity little by little. Just make sure to listen to your body and if things start to feel bad again, cut down. You don't want to prolong the injury.
@@miz528aaaaaaa thank you for asking. Actually I’m two weeks post hip surgery. It’s been brutal. Lots of pain and bruising. Each day gets better though. How are you doing?
I had a bad experience with a deep tissue massage where the massage therapist tried to break up a big knot in my upper hamstring. I think he may have strained it due to the sharp, stingy pain I feel. I didn’t notice the pain much until I went to the gym and did some elliptical the next day and did some stretching. Now, the next day, I notice the pain regularly. I can walk but I have a bit of a limp. However, due to my public transit commute into the city for work, I cannot avoid walking all together. So my question is: how much walking is too much walking in those early days? Thank you!
Me too. I did the stupidest thing. 20 meters from the finish line i tried to sprint. I was running pretty fast but i wanted to win a guy in front of me (no competition) i catch up and in that moment i just like lost my balance because of the pull. He got a head of me and im know with a hamstring pull watching the video.
Too funny, 0:43 is exactly why I am here. Softball, 3rd play of game; me batting slow grounder that I beat out and the final lunge to the bag. “Pinch runner please!!!” 😆
I was in academy for correctional officer and we had to run I felt that sharp pain boom I was limping for about two day but I’m stretching more and it’s helping the soreness go away so it’s healing
This video is several years old. There are plenty of new research demonstrating how antiinflammatories (e.g., ibuprofen) tend to slow down the healing process. Inflammation is an essential part of the healing process. Ice is good because it helps to reduce bruising and sweeping (and inflammation) to levels that do not impact the healing process negatively (whereas ibuprofen will stop inflammation for 6-8 hrs). Paracetamol (e.g., Tylenol) is ok, however, since acetaminophen are pain reducers and not antiinflammatories.
I woke up to sleep to (subconciously) stretch my leg when i pulled my hamstring :( and that really sucked cus everyone was asleep but luckily i called my mom on my phone and she woke up. The same thing keeps happening and most recently my upper thigh got pulled to, I haven't been able to cure (?) it yet and it's annoying.
Thanks for the amazing video, I'm in pain from many years, the doctors told me to stretch. I now see that I don't. Thank you again. Should I avoid also exercisese like Bulgarian Split Squat? Maybe without weights? Thanks again ❤
I used you guys for nerve floss for neck and all good tingling gone. And guess what pulled my hamstring muscle doing a cartwheel at my old age. Dumb. Thought a guitar string popped off is how it felt You both are lifesavers. It is working I am limping and taking it slow. Took bending over for granted eeek
I felt a sharp pain in the back of my knee as I plopped down, followed by radiating leg pain. now I have pain on lateral /outside hamstring. Today I did light (20kg) Romanian deadlifts and a few bodyweight squats still felt pain slight pain in the side of hams and when I tried squat and stand I sense a pulling sensation (like a string on a cello)behind the knee. Could his be hamstring ,patella or acl related?
@@사라-t9g Had to go to emergency due to pain. I was told it was probably a lateral meniscus tear, but not given an MRI. I started therapy, but would prefer to have an MRI/ultrasound. Doc told me to take ibuprofen 400 mg 3x a day. Swelling is gone down a lot.

Your always full of knowledge
I injured my hamstring training freestyle wrestling, thank you for this!
I was on my second sprints training for boxing 😅
Never had an issue but finally today felt a pop on RDLs today, had 140kg on the bar usually no issues for me but stopped straight away and now I guess I have to rest up
oh i got injured yesterday with a hamstring and also twisted my ankle too its jst painful
Same here
Thank you guys so much
I still can’t stretch without re injuring myself and it’s been eight years. I stopped track for the season and never did therapy for the injury. I just stopped working out and never got back into it because the injury would come back every time.
Got to start rehabbing and building the strength
These are stretches for pulled hamstrings, not ruptured, torn, or broken hamstrings
@@zaynahchummun668 Stretching might not be the key- strengthening it might be. From what I understand, weak muscles are tight at length, so if you strengthen them you will get more comfortable in those ranges of motion and protect yourself from injury.
If you don’t have a ball you can use a TRX suspension strap, which does the same hamstring exercise.
Thank you for posting these videos Bob and Brad. I've been watching your channel for years now and it's helped me alot in my work. I'm a circus performer so this information is more valuable than gold. Thanks again :)
Thank you and be careful. :)
Can you guys do a hamstring recovery video for those who went through ACL reconstruction with a hamstring graft...? Just went through the surgery and would really appreciate it!
It’s funny how I randomly found this, after last night playing softball, this morning woke up with a hamstring strain. Right on!!!!!
When you said softball and the high low blocks on the treadmill. Two things I did on the same day I strained my hamstring! 😂
This man really said weekend softball after running to 1st base...literally how i got my hamstring strain
Very good tips for upper hamstring injury/strain. Thank you both for this informative & entertaining video segment.
I thought you shouldnt foam roll a pulled hamstring bc it can actually make it worse. . .?
definitely think I pulled my hamstring, or tore it idk without xray or mri. but this video was very helpful along with my understanding of the body and anatomy.
Glad to help!
Perfect, I've had chronic hamstring pain for about 20 months now. While I had some progress with a pt for about 8 months, it seems to have halted.
Fantastic. Thank you very much.
Wath exercises did you do?pls help me
Super Pulseadas Armwrestling lay on your back and bend your knees like your about to do a crunch.
@@henryaraujo9 thank you very much Henry!! also the solution would be on strenghten thr glutes :) i will search more about this injury
Super Pulseadas Armwrestling no problem! Hope you make a full recovery and never have a sprain again! Also look at anterior pelvic tilt videos! Good luck!
This is what happened to me... how long did it take for you to recover
Docs are great
Thank just hurt my hamstrings doing high speed workout thanks for the info.
after my volleyball practise i injured both of my hamstrings constantly getting cramps, its swollen and walking around the campus is hell i hope it heals fast
Is regular stretching a good way to help prevent hamstring strains? After a hamstring pull, when do you know it’s ok to go back to stretching?
Pulled my hamstring doing 2 days of yard work. So glad I found this page.
Ja assisti esse video umas 5 ou 6 vezes em anos diferentes. Toda vez que machuco meu hamstring volto pra cá 🙋♂️👏👏
Thank you for the content
My hamstring popped on the basketball court and I face planted . Due to never feeling a pop before I felt like I tore it but after 3 days , it's still painful but I'm walking better and the bruising is down so I believeits a strain . So hopefully this helps so I can get back into my routine 💪🏼👏🏼
This is good for sciatic pain or the gluteos
Bruising can indicate a more serious injury.
Bruising means you pulled that bad boy. You’re either a quick healer or it’s a minor hamstring pull.
Thank you for sharing.I am 67 still playing racquetball and you guess it pulled it last Sunday and just getting to walk with less pain but still hurts and is 4 days later
How long should a hamstring injury take to heal it’s been 2 weeks and I can jog without pain should I up there intensity of training
Everyone's recovery is different and unique. You can start increasing the intensity little by little. Just make sure to listen to your body and if things start to feel bad again, cut down. You don't want to prolong the injury.
How do you know your hamstring is healed. I feel no pain. Haven’t ran in 4 days, want to know if I can go again.
Amen to the quote! Needed to read that one! Thanks guys.
So glad that you liked it! We post A quote of the day on our instagram page! Our username is OfficialBobandBrad
I’m a cheerleader and I have competitive tryouts today I hurt it 3 days ago, so hopefully this helps.
did it?
Thanks for the tips. Injured my hamstring two days ago working at Amazon. I heard a pop and screamed some profanities. Hoping to heal it quickly.
How is it going now ??
Hope all is good now had something similar
Thank you!
Thanks
I will be using these techniques
I’ve always been an active sports player and this hamstring injury really upsets me because it prevents me from doing what love:/
Same man, middle of track season I hope I’m back for the next big meets.
@@warlikecomic2022 same! I just pulled my hamstring today during track! I’m pretty upset!
How you feeling
U guys are like the PT dads I never had 😂 awesome video
I injured my hamstring EXACTLY the same way!! Gonna try this THX
This helped me so much!! Especially the ball exercises. Thanks for the great info.
this is so helpful n chillest vibes, thank you:)
i'm here bc i tried doing the splits and i pulled my hamstring 😅
Me toooo
Same
Me toooo😂😩😖
same :)
Yeah me too but I was trying to get my oversplits since I already have my normal spilts and I think I went to far and now both my legs hurt really bad
Too funny, 0:43 is exactly why I am here. Softball, 3rd play of game; me batting slow grounder that I beat out and the final lunge to the bag. “Pinch runner please!!!”
😆
Can you please tell me why I’m getting constant small muscle spasms on/ in hamstring?
An excellent video, came at a perfect time!
I woke up to sleep to (subconciously) stretch my leg when i pulled my hamstring :(
and that really sucked cus everyone was asleep but luckily i called my mom on my phone and she woke up.
Theme song funny but catchy #RESPECT 😂😂😂
I felt a sharp pain in the back of my knee as I plopped down, followed by radiating leg pain.
now I have pain on lateral /outside hamstring. Today I did light (20kg) Romanian deadlifts and a few bodyweight squats still felt pain slight pain in the side of hams and when I tried squat and stand I sense a pulling sensation (like a string on a cello)behind the knee. Could his be hamstring ,patella or acl related?
Jackie Burns can you update us on your situation Jackie? Are you feeling better after 1 month?
@@사라-t9g Had to go to emergency due to pain. I was told it was probably a lateral meniscus tear, but not given an MRI. I started therapy, but would prefer to have an MRI/ultrasound. Doc told me to take ibuprofen 400 mg 3x a day. Swelling is gone down a lot.
I feel called out. Literally pulled it 3/4 the way to 1st base.
A lot of sports athletes. Moon over my hammy. Sometimes knee pain are actually hamstring issues.
hi, can i know how to identify a hamstring injury ..? or can you tell me the signs if someone has a hamstring injury ..?
