I was an anti-draft protester in the late 60's and early seventies. I never expected anyone to pay my bail or court costs when I got arrested. It was my choice, my commitment and my price to pay.

Yeah I had to unsub quite of few for my mental health, I didn't sign up for all that drama, I left all that kind of stuff when I left my ex of 33 years 15 years ago and pastoring churches 23 out of those 33 years. People can drain you and effect your mental and your physical health. I went from and Extrovert to and Introvert. I remember clearly that you stated that all calls to the SPTV Foundation went to voice-mail... You would have had to hire several "operators" to answer the calls. I don't have any UA-cam channel, but I still get 75-100 every day. My phone is on Do Not Disturb 24/7. Our kids, doctors, dogs' groomers, etc, are marked to call through. Everyone else must be vetted. In any event, regarding the whining, 3rd partying, etc, 1. this too shall pass, and 2. it's going to be okay.

I have NEVER seen a creator platform and support other channels as much as you have, in fact sometimes I was almost perplexed by it. I admit I have not watched your channel very much over the last few months, basically because I wasn't interested in the drama surrounding the protestors. I am glad to hear that you've pulled back on that. Also, regarding a legal defense fund, my first thought was that such a thing could give substance to Scientology's claims of conspiracy, and nobody wants that. I've marched on Washington and participated in various protests during my lifetime, and have always been willing to accept the risks involved.
I forget that not everyone knows the rules and laws on things and either don't know how or can't be bothered to look stuff up and learn about it. My bad. I said in a comment that I think the sptv foundation is only for helping Ex-scientologists leave and provide needed support in the real world. They can't help protesters. I assumed people knew the basic rules on what any charity can legally pay for and that each charity also has additional rules on the specific type of charity it is and what it can cover with donations. If you ask for money to help the children but spend it on saving dolphins, that is fraud. Even if some of the people in chat or in person conversation say it's ok if you spend it on saving dolphins too, it is not legal. I suggested that if you want a charity to cover protesters legal fees, then start a charity to do that (instead of demanding ing from a charity that can't do it). If you are going to start a charity, you really need to learn about the laws around charities and make sure you research the laws at the city, county, state and federal level, just like you would for a business. A charity is a business, just a not for profit one. Aaron brought up some great points about legal defense funds AND cult tactics to destroy them. You can't just take donations and throw it down a bottomless hole. The ACLU doesn't run that way. You have to partner with specific lawyers and have contracts with set work, fees, donated hours if any, contingency fees if appropriate, and know how to defend protesters to be the most effective. Charity administration laws need to be followed if you want paid staff to run the charity. All charities require record keeping and reporting and regular tax filings just like a business. Otherwise, each protester can just ask for cash gifts like they do now. Cash gifts from a single person under a set amount each year do not get taxed. In 2023, you could receive $17,000 total in one year per gift giver. Ad sense and memberships are income and taxable. For now, super chats and things like PayPal and cash app are considered cash gifts. This is why some channels do not monetize and do live streams and money transfer apps only. Patreon is taxable income for memberships and purchased content. If received under your first and last name, it can be self employment income and filed on personal income taxes. You can report gifts on a gift form to the IRS if under the allowed limit but don't have to. If over the cash gifts exclusion limit, report it on personal income taxes and it may or may not get taxed, depending on your specific income and household. Jenna Miscavige can use her personal taxes to report everything. Growing Up in Scientology needs at least a state DBA (doing business as) business license and can filed as (self employment) business income on personal taxes for cash gift donations (which can be taxed) and income and can write off allowed expenses to reduce tax owed. Hopefully this is enough basic info to let people decide if they want to start a channel or charity or accept cash gifts. Look up more info on your own if you decide to do it.
