BOWTECH BOW BATTLE 2022: SR350 vs CP28

  • When I did my 2022 Bow Battle late last year, comparing flagship bows from Hoyt, Mathews, Elite, and Bowtech, the SR350 mods were still be worked on. They came in shortly after that, but I just now finally got a chance to go back to Archery Field & Sports in Des Moines, Iowa to test it out. I'm comparing it to the CP 28.
    Both of the bows have a lot of the same features, but then some are quite different. The SR350 has an axle to axle length of 33", a brace height of 6" and an IBO speed of 350 fps. The CP28 has an axle to axle length of 28", a brace height of 6.75" and an IBO of 335 fps.
    But how will they compare in actual speeds, shooting a 366 gr arrow and a 440 gr arrow? How will they compare in the noise of the shot? How will they compare in the feel of their draw, back wall, let down, and hand shock?
    I will be testing all those things with both of these bows at a 27" draw and at 70 lbs. NOTE: What happens at 27" can be very different from what happens at 29" or more.
    The actual speeds, on the Performance Setting were:
    SR350:
    366 gr arrow--289 fps
    440 gr arrow--266 fps
    CP28:
    366 gr arrow--283 fps
    440 gr arrow--263 fps
    I repeated those speed tests many times, and these speeds were basically the averages or center points of all the tests.
    MSRPs:
    SR350: $1299
    CP28: $1199

    “Forgiving” is generally a term associated with brace height rather than axle to axle. Maybe you can enlighten us.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 роки тому +1

      Well, it's primarily for brace height, but also is affected by ATA. The reason is that in a shorter bow, there can be a cant to it, without even realizing you are doing so...whereas the cant in a longer bow is more readily recognized.

      I’ve never had any problems with it. At one point, I must have banged it hard into something because there was a small dent and crack in one of the limbs. But it was replaced by warranty in no time. It’s a great performing bow. I am shooting an elite now, but I still don’t want to sell that bow. I have a friend wanting to buy it from me, but I just don’t wanna get rid of it, I like it so much.

      The SR6 is much smoother, no doubt about that...same speed as the CP28 but smoother. The only thing I don't really like about my SR6 is the wide posts for the yokes on the cams--they really stick out and get caught on brush at times. It's not a big deal, but it's just something I'd rather not deal with. And I really like the Deadlock cams of the newer bows. I'm definitely keeping my SR6--it's a unicorn of a bow, especially at shorter draw lengths.

    Something to think about on the SR350- at 27” DL your just under half way of the draw length of the range- so you will never see the benefits of advertised bow speeds… I know, it stinks.
    I have a 2016Bowtech BTX28- I shoot it at the max 28”DL setting. On performance it is a fast fast little bow. At its max 60 lbs it shoots a 368 gr arrow 300 fps. That’s blazing but I shoot it on comfort because it’s a joy to shoot-lol.
    Keep up on the great vids!

      Yep...been dealing with that issue all my life :)

    • @l00nybin
      @l00nybin 2 роки тому +1

      Yep, I had a BTX-28 for my 27" DL, and it was downright unpleasant on the performance setting. On the comfort setting, it was easier to draw, but wasn't much faster than my Maitland Retribution VTR, so I didn't see much of a point in keeping it.
      It sucks having a short DL. I've noticed that center pivot bows (that's probably what CP means in the CP28, since it is obviously a center pivot bow) tend to be more forgiving to short draw people.

      I did order a CP28. But I'm keeping my SR6. For my draw length, the SR6 is BY FAR the smoothest. Its IBO is 352, whereas the SR350 is 350 and the CP28 is 335. But at my draw length, with a 440 gr arrow, I believe the speeds were : SR6--268, SR350--268 (between 266 & 289), CP28--263 (between 262 & 265).
