As a kid growing up in the 80s I just saw Chas n Dave as a novelty act. Far from it, these two are serious musicians and great entertainers that defined a now extinct part of London working class England.
Reminds me, of days, when people had a laugh, and actually spoke to each other, and you could say what you think, knees up!!! Take me back, to the good ol smoke,
Used to think they were just funny and did novelty type songs. But honestly now can't get over how genius they were. True artistry, humour, wit, intelligence all in those songs.
This reminds me of being a kid, singing this song with my English nan, on what seemed like a daily basis. When i was in my 20s i got to see C&D at the 100 club. They really don't get the credit they deserve as pretty great musicians.
I was lucky enough to see Chas and Dave live. When I was six! (It was on Crackerjack). I loved it. They were brilliant (although my mum always wanted me to be posh. But I wasn't having any of it.)
@@alex-E7WHU West Ham and environs used to be in Essex , still is culturally i would imagine , nothing wrong with that . There's probably more real Cockneys in Basildon, Harlow etc than in Whitechapel right now ! Thanks for your humorous reply and have a good day !
They signed copies of their greatest hits in a record shop I managed in Stratford London in the 80s. It was packed, what did they ask for ? A case of Brown ale classic.
Given the normal level of tripe they came up with, that is positively brilliant. Staggeringly clever and supremely played. Left open mouthed. The drumming was out of this world exact.
It's like Jools Holland said (or someone like that,) they are deceptively talented musicians. You hear their songs and because the audience sings along you think they are simple. But this performance proves that nothing could be further from the truth! Try bashing this one out at the Karaoke with your best mate. The interplay of lyrics between Dave and Chas is mind blowing genius. ❤❤❤🎉🤓🧐🧐🧐🧐🤯😎😎😎😍
This is the bollocks.... Seriously underrated talent.... What a mental hook on a 2 chord two-step.... Genius
Feckin awesome

Brilliant, Scotland salutes you, in the best tradition of all the great performers
Brilliant. James Buckley could play Dave if they ever made a film of them. Saw them in Eastbourne when i was a teenager it was awesome.
It doesn't get any better than that really, dose it? Hearing them play, It makes you smile from ear to ear and i don't care.
Fantastic stuff from the Cockney Spurs legends !

Why don't we have novelty acts like these anymore? I miss The Wurzels too.
That geezer @40 seconds in looks like a right proper hard man. Looks like he wouldn't take no shit off no one.
A proper Cockney Hardman
I always thought that, right out of casting for a Guy Ritchie film
You need to use a colon for a time stamp. Like this 0:40 Hope that helps.

If life's getting you down, whack on a bit of Chas and Dave. It'll sort you right out.
Me June 2024.
Who’s listening to this in 2025?🥳🥳
Every song these days seems to be R&B, drill, depressive pop with slurred vocals
I miss the Muppets, the happy days theme tune and Chaz and Dave😃
Cockney rap. Love it
Peak England
Try doing this on karaoke. You gotta have some lungs. Genius.
I was crazy enough to try it at karaoke once. It is IMPOSSIBLE 😂
