First time I heard/saw this song/video was on an old 90s Al TV MTV special a buddy of mine had recorded from years and years previously. I probably saw it back in mid-late 2000s for the first time.

I've loved this ever since it came out, bought the picture disc and all that. Probsbly heard it about 683 times. I've only just noticed what an AMAZING bass line....all the way through!! Bedders probably has the most FUN of all playing it live.
One of the most brilliant songs & videos in the history of the world ever. Suggs/McPherson is practically in hip-hop territory with his delivery (w/ Brit mannerisms/intonations). Amazing frontman. Okay, I'm just going to watch it again - I was thinking they should have played House of Fun when footage of Repub's storming impeachment session yesterday was playing on every news show - that's what got me back to HOF.
I have to give a big thank you to Gavin and Stacey leading me to discovering this. Dunno how old the episode, and as an 80s kid in America, Our House was on every station, but I had never heard this before. Great show, leading me to this great song.
I love how the chemist appears to still be in business while this video runs. The kid who walks in and stares at them, the old guy whose trying to get to something at the cashier as they dance next to him. Not sure if they were planned, but it just continues the feeling of madness in this song.
How can you top this? Even after all these years it is still bloody amazing! Everything about this track and the band. I was only a young lad back in those days but even I knew they were something special :D
I looked it up. There is no minimum age limit for purchasing condoms anywhere in the UK. The age for purchasing liquor is eighteen, dropping to sixteen to for purchasing beer, wine, and cider. (so I was wrong about age limits, other than you can probably purchase beer and cider.. But no restrictions on "soft" alcohol based on age starting at sixteen. There are restrictions about knocking back, say, scotch: you got to be over 18 for hard liquor, and you have to purchase food with your beverage to purchase in a "public house".... But go ahead and get that beer-buzz as soon as you're sixteen, the law says you're fine. (Propriety is another matter, but you'll make friends among your fifteen year old chav friends. So go ahead and buy a plate of chips and seven beers: you're golden.
Everything about everything in this song, and the video, was so well made. It's a song every young man can relate to. Well deserved its number 1 spot in 1982.
This song is just Genius. On the surface is just a fun song with fooling around video, but the combination of its music, lyrics and the video clip is just so great and so original
I missed out out on too much of of this as boy growing up in the 80’s in America….these guys are great!! What a joy and a blast to hear and see…man I missed out.

MADNESS is one of my favorite quirky bands they always make me smile
How can you top this? Even after all these years it is still bloody amazing! Everything about this track and the band. I was only a young lad back in those days but even I knew they were something special :D
A song about condoms that reached #1. Now that's how you music.
Shut the fuck up don't write me a fucking essay
Admiral Bangle i think about this song very differently now😂
+Megan Bradley: Sort of like finding out what Prince meant by "Trojan horses" in "Little Red Corvette" for us Americans.
No song about blue-balls though!
Seen them live, phenomenal, felt like I was 14 again.

Everything about everything in this song, and the video, was so well made. It's a song every young man can relate to. Well deserved its number 1 spot in 1982.
I think that Madness was making PROGRESSIVE music in the ska genre.

You get whatever the powers that be want you to get. Then as now the acts that rise are connected, Freemasons, like Madness, which is why they sometimes wore the Fez, a reference to the Shriners
