    So many different great pictures in this one! I love the mood at 7:31 with all the grays and blues combined with the red detail. But 8:37 and 9:41 are on another level still: vibrant colors, light just where you need it, and the eye is immediately drawn to the subject. If you set out to make priceless portraits, I would say the mission is accomplished. Great work!

      The portraits of my dad on film are some of my favourites. The red glow around the highlights is a typical feature of some film stocks and the (surprising) way it handles colour is why it’s so fun to do. I saw it in a video of @grainydays (I think), when shooting a subject, digital is reproduction, film is an interpretation ✌🏻

      There is not a lot of content about this lens (given the price, very understandable 🫣). But it’s an incredible piece of glass.
      Thanks for the kind words about the portraits. Moments in time that I will appreciate more as time flies by. 🫶🏻

    Hi Bernd, good to see you again, and great pictures with your dad ! Coincidentally I just bought a 28mm lens yesterday :-) I went for the 28mm f/2.8 ELMARIT-M ASPH. Why ? Last year I bought the vintage-like TTArtisan 28mm 5.6 Summaron with the intention to see if I would like 28mm and if yes, to replace it with the Leica 28mm 5.6 Summaron. It turned out that I like 28mm a lot. I use it mainly for the first day arriving in a new city and I want city shots of the buildings etc. In the evening I then put on my 50mm lux. But 28mm is also great for pure street photography of people cause you can get them easily in frame without looking through the viewfinder. When it gets darker 5.6 is not fast enough anymore, hence I choose the Elmarit. It's very sharp and still very compact. Voilà, my 2 cents on 28mm :-) Take care, Luc.

      Hi Luc! 28mm is indeed great to get close, zone focus and shoot from the hip or chest for street shots. The Elmarit is (so I have heard) a true gem as well. Light, nimble, unobtrusive and almost no distortion. Should be great for architecture as well. Thanks for sharing your perspective and hope to see you again soon ✌🏻

    It's a fantastic lens, though very expensive. I'll stick with a Summicron, and of course the 28mm Summilux (f/1.7) that's bolted permanently on my Q2. Great review Bernd!

    The character of the Q/Q2/Q3 Summilux 28/1.7 is closer to that of the Summicron M 28/2 than the Summilux M 28/1.4. It requires a lot of correction in-camera too. I have the Summilux M 28/1.4 attached to my SL2-S at the moment and find it far better balanced on that body than on my M10M. Yes, it has wonderful separation wide open at close focus, and I like its signature. It can exhibit chromatic aberration in some conditions, but that's not an issue when shooting B&W. For an all day carry lens, I'd give up one (but not two) stops and go with the Summicron M 28/2 on my M10M

      @berndvandecruys  6 місяців тому

      Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with this beautiful lens. I agree that the SL body balances the Summilux and Noctilux perfectly. Giving up a stop on a monochrome body makes a lot of sense. ISO on those cameras is so advanced, that it makes the most of f2. How do you like the M10M? Something truly special compared to converting to BW on the SL2-S?

      @@berndvandecruys Having a monochrom sensor gives me the freedom to focus on light, shadows and contrast, and not wonder whether I should be taking a colour or B&W photo in the moment. Hand-held, in extremely low light, the M10M gives me more keepers than any other camera. For sheer simplicity, when I travel I prefer to take the M10M and a single lens. I used to own an M10-P but now all my colour is done with the SL2-S. That being said, the B&W jpg preset on the SL2-S is quite impressive and converting DNG images from colour to B&W with that camera would work the vast majority of the time. The resolution may be the same as the M10-P but the BSI sensor on the SL2-S makes a big difference.

      @@stuartdorman7125 That's very insightful. I am very intrigued by the Monochrome M's, and sometimes feel it's the best version of a digital M. I made a video about comparing an SL2-S to an M10-P and IQ wise the SL2-S can handle more situations thanks to the IBIS and BSI sensor. With the upcoming SL3, the SL2-S will be a gem on the used market.

    Nice lens. I liked the night shots in black and white, and I liked the portrait shots on film (the ceiling light actually looked like a red light). Is this lens something you would add to your collection?

      I also like the film portraits a lot. The red halations are indeed a nice extra feature of the film stock I used. Just adds a lot to the overall mood.
      Totally understand you liked the B/W shots. I really liked how it renders tones in B/W. This lens with a monochrome M (film or digital) would be quite the combo. Maybe one day I will add it to the collection. The combo of 1.4 on a wide lens is quite the experience 💯

      @@berndvandecruysI just traded my 21mm Super-Elmar (and some cash) for a used copy of this 28 Summilux. I’m still trying it out, and looks great so far. The 21 was wider than I need, and a 28 is still wide. I don’t particularly like the hood, so I’m looking for some kind of alternative. I also will be trying this out on my film MP.
