Love how you teach. I am right handed but I think I will play it like you do at the start, with my right hand on the snare and left on the hi-hat. Awesome tutorial!!
Hi i really like your videos they are very easy to understand and help me alot :) i would love if you could do one on white rabbit by egypt central i really like that song :) keep up the great work -Konrad
Ive got the beat down but my rim shots are awful and that in my opinion is what makes this such an iconic beat. A really open hi tuned snare with LOTS over overtones and rimshots. Or maybe his snare is just so open and has so much natural ring to it that it sounds like rimshots lol. But im pretty certain its intentional rimshots for the backbeat/ghost notes AND a really open snare. This video absolutely helped me learn the meat and potatoes of the song and quickly. I will say that playing open handed confused me a little bit at first but i wouldnt recommend playing different than what is natural to you. Maybe just throw it out there that it can also be played closed and you just prefer open handed drumming since your left handed.
I've seen a couple of videos from you, and you usually explain better than anyone, but, i think you should let us know your left-handed, i got confused in this video because i didn't knew that until the end of the same, so i tried to do the things like you did and i couldn't, anyway, thanks, you've helped me a lot
Hi Mark, yes that's correct. For right handed drummers you play cross grip. I am left handed, so I play open grip, left hand on hi hat. *I also play cross grip but mostly left*
Nice one - Professor. Great as always. Chad Smith is the best so far, whom i have listened to. I have listened to Nickelback, 3Doors Down, Greenday, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, But RHCP are the Best in Business as far as my opinion goes.
Fuck yeah, got the intro down. My first song on drums, don't expect to learn the whole thing but I'm glad I got that beat down. Day 2: dude I'm killing it, I have the first part down I'm so excited
Thats the way I prefer them.. always have :) I like to sit a bit lower, having them at an angle helps to avoid hitting the rims compared to sitting up higher and not needing them to be angled.
I only asked because I see so many other drummers have the toms upright but at a slight angle towards them I used to have mines the way you had them positioned but I presumed it was incorrect because so many others had it that way, so I tried to but then it just caused me to higher my seat then I had to move all the drums closer so my feet felt comfortable. Now I'm starting to think that the angle of the toms should be up to you. thanks for opening my eyes !
Nicely explained. This song's drum is much harder than i guessed..
Chad is such an underrated drummer, he's got just a great feel to him sounds simple but many complex nuances that set him a bar above the rest
Agreed.

Hi Michael, good point thank you. I will mention that~!
Harder than I thought great lesson!! Drummers are way better at teaching than guitarists 99% of guitar tutorials are 110% WRONG
lol... thanks! PLUS drummers sit on thrones, they don't haha... I tell my wife that all the time (she plays several instruments.)

Why are your Toms at such an angle?
