The shaded region clearly shows the Mauryan Empire. Extreme South (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) and North East India are not shaded, cuz they never came under the Mauryan domain. Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan were part of Mauryan Empire, which is why they appear shaded. On its right is a replica of Ashokan Capital and of a Brahmi inscription.

As much I have studied, there are no concrete evidence of such subordinate rulers outside Mauryan domain who paid Mauryas tribute. All kingdoms and empires bordering Mauryan Empire were recognised as sovereign entities outside Mauryan domain in Ashokan Inscriptions.
