    Wow, this was fantastic, Stephen... I've been marking my Bible for years and thought I had a pretty complete system, but you shared some things I hadn't thought about or seen elsewhere. I'm really excited about putting them into practice 👌Thanks so much! New subscriber here 😁 God bless 🌹

    I’m also super enjoying someone marking up a bible with an academic mindset and more towards translation variance.

    I love your colour coding system. They are simple and based on textual analysis which doesn't change. I have a similar markibg system as yours. Your colour coding for the gospels would be a great study tool especially. Thank you for your ideas.

    Thanks for sharing this, Stephen. I’d never thought to track textual variants with a highlighting/underlining system. Intriguing idea. So is the concept of book-specific colors and symbols. That could prove to be very useful. I’ve been using a multi-colored gel pen (the Hi-Tec C Coleto) to underline various themes in the Bible. In my system, green is for covenants, blue for the character or nature of God, orange is for anything Messianic, pink is for commands or principles for daily living, and purple is for anything else I find noteworthy. I also utilize the miscellanies note-taking method employed by Jonathan Edwards to jot down longer thoughts than will fit in my Bible’s (wide) margins.

    • @BiblicalStudiesandReviews
      @BiblicalStudiesandReviews  3 роки тому

      That’s an awesome system! Most all my notes are contained in my Bible. I think the miscellanies method seems really cool. I’ve watched Matthew Everhard speak about it.

    Decided to watch videos of people’s different bible marking approaches on the way home and yours came up Stephen. The one I watch prior used green in the same way but used yellow in a similar way you are using orange saying it the big standout verses to memoize. I like the way you have used yellow and also approached the Synoptics. I have seen a lettering type approach to what you have done here but they used it to point to an external notebook. Have you changed your approach at all since doing this video?

      Hi Andrew! No change on color coding. I do use the Jonathan Edwards’ miscellanies method for note taking now.

    Can you clarify the difference between alternative meaning vs and variance in the text? What is the best resource to locate these? Do you mark each one or only when it is significant to the meaning of the text?

    • @BiblicalStudiesandReviews
      @BiblicalStudiesandReviews  2 роки тому +1

      The alternative meanings would be a translation issue. That is, when alternative translation is possible. These are found in the center column reference of my Bible. Variants would be when the Greek (or Hebrew) manuscripts themselves differ. I pretty much follow here Philip Comfort’s Textual commentary supplemented by other research. In this Bible i mark the variants that effect the translation in some meaningful way.

    • @BiblicalStudiesandReviews

      I mess up my fair share. I usually just draw a straight line through what I wrote. I tried white out before, but I don't recommend it.

    I watched your highlighter set comparison video as well as this one. I don’t really highlight/color code my Bible as much as I write in it. And I’ve about given up writing in my carry Bible (my NKJV Wide Margin Reference Edition) because of my age. It’s harder to write small enough for marginal notations, and it’s harder to read what I’ve written, let alone the printed textual notations and variant information. But before I give up writing notes altogether, do you have a recommended pen for writing marginal notes on Bible paper?

      @@BiblicalStudiesandReviews Well, I'm embarrassed now! I *watched* that video about the Pigma pen. I even left a *comment* on it! I did say that I hardly ever write in my Bible anymore. My aging eyes and cataracts make things difficult. Also I have hand tremors that greatly effect my ability to write small and still be legible. But I kinda thinking maybe I should try one more time, and with a good pen. So, thanks...again! 😳
