I think Jacob has the best performance in whole Lunatic Birthright playthrough especially solo. I use him to kill both Xander and Garon Chapter12 Lunatic.
I love these character breakdowns. I remember grinding the piss out of every unit so it's definitely interesting to learn how good units actually are. Also, it's super funny that kaze gets plucked out of the game if corn doesn't befriend him enough
Probably an early holdover idea that they were thinking to implement with other chars. It feels out of place when it only happens for 1 character on 1 route. And yeah, Kaze isn’t really meant to kill things. Daggers are inherently strong, and despite him hitting like a wet noodle, he is going to see some usage since he has immediate access to daggers/shurikens. Makes a decent pair-bot too, as Spd is a stat that has a lot of demand. Definitely falls off late game, unless you get god-like rolls.
Strangely enough, Kaze dying always was the plan in birthright (I guess because you can use him in conquest so they wanted to make player's teams more diverse?) but him being able to be saved wasn't. I guess they thought that it would be too harsh if they just took away a unit from blind players but they wanted to have that plot beat still in despite it having no effect on the story otherwise? Like he dies and that's it, it's so strange. As much as I hate Scarlet's death, at least she comes back as an enemy npc I suppose lol.
Kaze reminds me a lot of Sothe from Radiant Dawn. He's not good because he's good, he's good because he's so much faster than everyone else when you get them. Eventually Kaze and Sothe fall off once the enemies defense surpass their damage output, and you can easily defeat them with other units.
A friend and I did a draft of Birthright recently. Neither of us have played it in forever. My first pick was Kaze and his first pick was Takumi. Lo and behold, videos about those two units in particular.
I like pairing Kaze with Silas for the friendship seal because he makes one of the best great knights in birthright. It fixes his strength, skill, and defense while keeping Kaze's crazy speed. Give him a guard naginata and he becomes kind of a monster for midgame to early endgame. High recommend.
Are you going to analyze Conquest units as well eventually? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on characters like Odin who get the Levin Swordmaster build bandied around somewhat errantly or later joins like Charlotte/Laslow
I used Kaze in an Ironman of Birthright. He died on chapter 13 taking a hit for Azura. I was disappointed to lose him but I wasn’t about to sacrifice my dancer.
This is the kind of takes I live for. I’ve always found him underwhelming compared to other units in all three routes (especially the ones where you have other native Ninjas) so I’m curious to hear what your view on him is. Also, could you elaborate on why you consider Mechanist the best class in the game? I have a few ideas but I often considered Basara/Chieftain better bc they’re more splashable (esp Oni) and hitting Res is cool
Oni Chief is the best magical class in the game, but it can't double at 1-2 range with physical weapons in a game where most of your units are physically inclined.
@@badatlife That’s about what I expected. I did admittedly use Mechanist Saizo once and he was great but not the standout of that run, guess I still have to find the right character to take advantage of the Mechanist statline.
I'll add that 7 mov is a luxury in Birthright, and Yumis high might make them a situationally interesting alternative over shurikens. Intuitively it makes sense in my mind for Mechanist to be the best Birthright class.
@@badatlifeHonestly, I cannot agree. I generally find specialized classes to be better than hybrid classes when it comes to magic. And in general, really. Being tanky and having magic is a boon, but being a Master of None class is bad.
note that most seal skills including dragonic hex the best seal skill in the game are mostly redundant as they do not stack with debuffs from hidden weapons
For the longest time I never understood why his friendship with Saizo grants him the exact same heart seal class since it's redundant. But I do think it was on the Saizo video that it was pointed out that you could use a friendship seal to get around needing a heart seal to change to Swordsmaster for the Vantage and Astra skills. Kaze does get Elbow Room, Shelter and Defender at least from Silas so he could run Master Ninja with these 4 skills alone and have a 5th one be whatever you want.
why TF am i getting fire emblem videos now i want to play birthright again. I remember beating that game by dodgemaxxing luck and speed +jakob support on corrin and steamrolling through the whole game with 0% hitrate on him. my kid self was just playing a sword god simulator.
Upon my replay of all 3 of the routes (conquest is a WIP) he’s been absolutely CARRYING all 3 with debuffs and with his samurai class for heart seal you can get amazing utility with duelist blow basically making him untouchable even by green units and with the ability to instant kill or extremely weaken enemies with astra as well as having vantage and poison strike to make follow ups from other units even better I’ve been having a great time using him
Didn't realize until now but he feels like an unpromoted Jagen. A unit with a lot of utility and use early on that teepers off mid to late game and can fairly easibly be replaced with other units of the same class. It always felt weird to call Jacob/Felicia a jagen, especially since Jacob especially only get better due to being a skillmonkey
Literally what shocked me the most was not knowing about his fate when you don’t A support him. It’s so dumb tbh with how it just happens and even the convoluted way he survives. But I’m still a huge fan of the man because man is he handsome and so was his og voice in Fates
I get Kaze falls off but I have never gotten much use out of Kagero she joins bit late and usually ends up as a pairup bot. Maybe Im not seeing her strengths enough
Kagero in short does have some good options to be a front liner. For example she can get A+ support with Setsuna for the Archer’s Quick Draw ability which makes her already good damage output better. This is augmented by the fact that her strength growth is very good in a class that is meant to fix your speed basically. Marriage option wise well this depends on your team comp. She could marry Ryoma for Swordmaster’s Vantage. Takumi for the same benefits as Setsuna. But of course you would want to choose a different friendship option if that were the case. Silas is another one for the cavalier skills. It’ll help her for the same reasons it’ll help Kaze. This does also mean that Silas could get A+ friendship with Ryoma and if he were to Marry Kagero he can do a Vantage + Sol build as a Master Ninja. Basically these options allow other units to achieve builds that otherwise would not be possible.
I think he shines more in conquest due to being a fast debuffer at base and a good pair up bonus, but yeah compared to the other options and BR difficulty he's kinda eh.
Kaze is 1 of the few characters that can double attack with steel weapons. Also Saizo's personal skill sucks the closer he is to death he hurts himself. Also pair up sucks you lose an extra attack.
Great slides, especially the optimized support routing one. Kaze is surely better in Conquest, but even there I feel fans overrate his mage killer + utility selling points. It's a better ecosystem for him though. I can't wait for the Butler Saizo breakdown down the road (I hope).
Kaze is in a similar boat as Mozu where he's incredibly useful in Birthright as a dedicated Mage killer and able to give his wife and friendship supports Ninja, but in Birthright, where the class is more common, and dedicated rooms of enemy mages aren't as big a deal if I'm remembering, he's pretty redundant. His benefit of being able to make Silas a Ninja is amazing in Conquest, unsure of how good it is in Birthright, but still, he's definitely worse compared to other Birthright Ninjas. (If nothing else, hes more respectful to women compared to his brother lmao)
Master Ninja Silas remains an incredible option because he’s one of the only sources of Sol on a dagger unit in Birthright without Corrin talent. Afaik the only other first gen units who get this are Jakob and Felicia (the former with Felicia marriage), alongside a few second gen units like Felicia’s child that she passes Sol down to alongside Maid/Butler access and Sophie with Asugi marriage. Of these, Felicia and Jakob really don’t have the stats to do massive enemy phases, and Silas can build the support for Master Ninja to start Sol 1-2 range destroying far quicker than the other units can. In terms of performance, Sol Master Ninja’s are as good as in Conquest, if not better because the Dual and Sting Shuriken help with Ninja’s weaknesses more than the Hunter’s Knife and because Birthright maps are far more open to allow big enemy phases. I think Saizo is perhaps better performance wise, but having to marry Female Corrin for Sol does make him more specific a choice than Silas.
Huh, I’ve always been under the impression that kaze is better than saizo, due to prologue exp letting him snowball sooner. I’m prepared to be elucidated
the issue with that is that his stat spread isn't all that beneficial and the early advantage is very deceptive. Saizo starts out as like a lvl 7 ninja and is quite underwhelming at first because he's similar but not as fast as Kaze. Additionally, Kaze likely has a Rinkah support to fix his def+str that Saizo has more of at base. So most will have a lvl 7 unsupported base Saizo and compare him to a lvl 10 B or A Rinkah support Kaze who will obviously look better. But consider the xp curve in Fates; it flattens out really badly compared to other games if you are overleveled, so the level advantage will even out after 1-2 chapters. Saizo can support Hana for example to fix his early spd issue, gets some str and skl on top. He will then have significantly higher str (like 6+ more), the same def without a pair up boost, like double his skl and both of them will double everything. On top of that, he will have better lck and good enough mag to use flame shuriken so he gets more occasional crits and can target def and res. By the 20s chapters, the enemies will mostly be nohrian units with high hp, str and def, but garbage spd and res. Saizo will double basially everything despite his lower spd but will just live longer due to his far superior bulk and deal way more damage at much higher accuracy. You can even just use the same boost as Kaze and give him Rinkah so he has even more str and def, while being able to stay in master ninja. There's only really one major disadvantage, which is res, but like the video discussed, Saizo's higher def will save him from more damage than Kaze's res will. Ninjas also have ok res to begin with, weapon triangle and both of them have access to vantage, so even as an anti-mage unit, Saizo can just vantage one shot the couple of mage groups that could potentially threaten him pretty reliably. While the early disadvantage IS a valid criticism and a knock against Saizo, I'd argue he bridges the gap quickly and easily enough that it doesn't really matter that much and if given the same resources, he just performs way better in the long run.
It is sad, but honestly I’d say Sting Shuriken and Dual Shuriken more than make up for it by allowing Ninja’s to deal with their biggest problems - Generals and Berserkers - rather than how the Hunter’s Knife helps Ninja’s do better against a type of unit that they already do fine against (esp. Dark Knights)
In my opinion, Setsuna is in the same boat as Rinkah: both can heart seal into a ninja, but neither really wants to because of their low strength stats. Apart from that, I would say that using a heart seal on Setsuna is a waste because of how bad she is, while in Rinkah's case, she's going to be more useful thanks to her tankiness and access to axes that she gives up by becoming a ninja instead
Not disagreeing with anything said here, but that's the fun of FE. I PERSONALLY don't really care and will gladly use him anyways because he's one of my favorite characters in the whole series. But that said, I will openly acknowledge his faults
Yea but actually Kaze is the best Birthright unit actually because he is cool (you have to believe me)
Second best, you mean. Takumi is the best and the coolest Birthright character.
Takumi did it better tbh
I think Jacob has the best performance in whole Lunatic Birthright playthrough especially solo. I use him to kill both Xander and Garon Chapter12 Lunatic.
