The melody is from "jesaig", by breton musician Gilles Le Bigot, composed in the late 70's. He played among other things in a band called Barzaz. You can find Jezaig/Jesaig on his other band Galorn self title album from 1978
@PsychoSteeIIord You say its a choice yet the bible explicitly states if you don't follow Christianity's warped ideals you'l go to hell....I'm all for rules and what not but they should be in forced because the person should be shown that is a btter way of living for themselves rather than the threat of punishment.
Edward Knott no, there you are wrong. not all religions use fear and punishment. I am a pagan, the very core belief of my faith is that it is my own and no one else's, every pagans beliefs are inherently different from each others, it is about the personal connection I share with my god, not about what a priest or any other faith leader says,as I need none. I do not fear punishment or divine wrath from him, for my actions bring there own consequences, as it is, as it should be. As for all religions being about development and rising above, again i will disagree, in my opinion the point of my faith is how it helps me understand just how close to the world around us we really are, as much as we would like to assimilate from it.
DarkAcolyte96 hi what you say is true, I myself Hindu pagan, what Hinduism says is that , you will go to hell if you do wrong deeds not that you dont follow hinduism. And hinduism is way of life not any religion in my thinking. Being pagan and loving nature and animals and feeling to be part of this world gives a great sense of living :)
shaldavya Kuruganti I could not agree with you more, I was raised in a Christian household, and I just felt very out of touch with Christian beliefs, the idea's of paganism and essentially the religious ideals falling to the practitioner and the appeal of nature and animals holding great significance again appealed to me very much, as I have always believed us as humans to be part of the cycle of life, but never above it, or more important than anything else in it.
"And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Is interpreted by most as; You don't follow the "true" faith, have fun burning for all eternity. and if I'm not mistaken, that quote is from the book of revelation in the new testament..
I like how everyone here is a historian specialized to ancient Northern-Europe, having an argument incited by the perfunctory historical features of an obviously stylized artwork, the reasoning dimmed by your "metalhead-childish" aversion to christianity repels the objectivity which is of utmost importance if you intend to be validly knowledgeable in the events of the past.
There are re-releasing Spirit and re-recording Ven, releasing it as "The Early Years." It will be out August 17th, check their website for more details.
I always hear Isara in my head when I go dick around at those pretty waterfalls in elwynn forest c: they're up the river from the waterfall in northshire valley.
esses sons me remétem á épocas épicas de batalhas ferrênhas ´,lembro-me de meus ancestrais,os quais só me recórdo em meus sonhos e pesadelos.campos de matança e flagélo mortal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It certainly looks badass but horns and spikes on armor is objectively terrible design-wise, it doesn't divert blows at all. Imagine having spikes on your helmet. Someone just grabs them, twist, and boom broken neck. Or if not that, ducking under a mace and it hits the horns instead with all that force... Ow.
PhoenixBloodKing Well seeing as the Norse didn't use maces I don't think that would be a concern...but you are right any kind of horn or protrusion is a bad idea for armor.
Wikipedia is nice huh? if you'd actually read the article through, or read other materials on vikings, you'd know that it states that there have been found depictions of horned helmets which seemed ritualistic in nature, while no actual horned helmets have been found :p
all i see is that christianity has surpressed human knowledge and advance for years, and the fact that it is now losing its influence is in my opinion a good thing for humans need to advance in order to become better. Further more is homosexuality and masturbation older then christianity and has always been present in great civilizations such as those of the greeks and romans. So i dont see how homosexuality or masturbation can be a wrong thing.
The Celts is the collective term for the people inhabiting (what we now know as) Ireland, Great-Britain, the northern edge of Spain, France, bits of Belgium; basically western and cental-eastern Europe, from about 800 BC till the fall of the Roman Empire in 476. The Romans called the Celts living in present-day France "Galli", and we derived the word "Gauls" from that. In other words, all Gauls were Celts, but only the (continentally) westernmost Celts were Gauls. Hope that clears it up a bit!
Yeah. There's this movie called "Vercingetorix" that I'm sure the members of Eluveitie would hate just as much as I do. It is about the Gaulish rebel that defied Caesar. The "Gauls" in that movie have horned helmets. For one, they were Celts, not Vikings. And Vikings didn't even wear them! I actually caught one of the "warriors" wearing jeans. Please check it out if you don't believe me.
@evolooshion lol, i didn't know devourment :P the closest one i know is haemophogia. But, well, yea, eluveities songs are too different to compare. a bit like trollfest. i just don't like that they are making more lighter songs in the newer albums and less heavier ones. it's just a matter of opinion i guess.
I don't see a problem with talking about anything anywhere. If you want to talk about bloody video games at some location, be it even metal concert, then talk about video games, or don't I don't care, just don't go around telling people what to do.
or other stupid video game, not saying i don't like games, but Eluveitie don't get inspiration from games; it is more possible that they take inspiration by TRADITIONAL TALES, ancient scripts and so on. STUDY MORE HISTORY NERDS! XD thanks for the comment! ù.ù
How may i ask? Chrigel said it was about the character Orgetorix which was a helvetic warrior from Caesar's the "Gallic Wars" and became a Usurper and was put to trial and then committed suicide....how does a Helvetic warrior have anything to do with Norse mythology???
a few horned helmets were found, I think they were using them in some kind of ceremonials. But it would make sense, when you have horns on your helm, its easier to kill you. Sounds like Vikings way to me ^.^
I'm no expert, but I do know that Skyrim had inspiration from old legends as well. (if you have never noticed, the nords are very very similar to what you could call a Viking) SO it is not all bad. Stop raging.
Their helmets still looked awesome though. And they were as ruthless as demons. One Viking was known as the Child-lover because he refused to throw captured babies up in the air and catch them on the point of his sword.
@evolooshion Just compare this with thousandfold. the new albums sound way lighter and that's wrong for eluveitie. This edges on dark metal and that was the awesome part about eluveitie and just that lacks in the new albums.
He says that a few say the picture in the video is accurate to history. A few others say it is related to fantasy Media. I'm clueless, other than it is not really an historically accurate representation of Scandinavians in the Dark Era(if it even is).
Addendum: Hatred toward Christianity is especially ludicrous coming from Celtophiles, given >90% of the knowledge we have about the Celts would have been lost forever if not for Christians writing it down.
You mean the history of humanity's crimes? Northern Europe was busy slaughtering itself by bloodshed and fire, Christianity was one of the only civilizing influences to survive that dark time.
Yeah, ofc, but saying there were no horned helmets is different to horned (as in with protruding metal horns, not animal ones) helmets weren't used in battle, because it's damn ridiculous. ;)
I know what i'm speaking i do gaulish reenacting, they are no Horned Helmet. The Horned Helmet what you're speaking is the Waterloo Bridge and is totaly in bronze, and it wasn't a helmet for battle ;)
actually they had, the higher people in the army had the right to carry horns, its true that most of them didnt want that, because they would stand out too much and it made the helmet pretty heavy.
I only just realised, the horns were never part of the Viking helmet... the Christian monks put them there in the stories to make them look like devils... how cool is that!? Demon Vikings!
@WinterMisanthropy Valkyries are the angels who takes the brave fallen warriors away to thors hall wallhalla where they can celebrate 4ever and Vrykuls are based on the icegiants form jotunheim
They saw them as people from hell, back in the days. As far as I know, was it a priest in the time, that gave them horns on the helmets I, myself and me is a Viking. Yep, I'm Dane
I like skyrim as much as the next guy but seriously stop thinking of it when you see things like this and instead say it how it should be said "Thats a freakishly awesome viking armor"
In true Viking usually wore helmets with nose guard, and usually with protection around the eyes. But it is true that the Vikings animal furs, like a wolf, as capes used
valkyry are a holy maiden warriors who guide the fallen soldiers to valhalla, and vrykul is a race of semigigants who lives in northrend and follow the lich king.
They actually sing more to do with celt/ gaul culture usually and Vikings did use 2 handed axes just not the ones you see in stupid games like world of warcraft :)
Yeah sad truth, as far as i know only the higher placed vikings had horns and different (maybe better) armour, and even about that im not entirely sure
I really wish they still made songs like this...
+Inkshooter they will release a album with songs like that song this year.
The melody is from "jesaig", by breton musician Gilles Le Bigot, composed in the late 70's.

Actully the bible dosn't say that, it was made up by the church. atleast the new testament never mentions Hell.
"And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Is interpreted by most as; You don't follow the "true" faith, have fun burning for all eternity. and if I'm not mistaken, that quote is from the book of revelation in the new testament..
because of this picture, everybody just dont care anymore about the song.
From 2022
This song has great melody.

The best folk metal band ever made in history!!! ♥♥
this would be shame that someone dislike....there is no word to describe this song....
what's the name of the instrument that's first played in the start of the song? A low whistle?
one of best instrumental music...i heard
My lady told me when she hears this it is nothing but my image haunting her with such beauty
I saw the armor and thought... FUS RO DAH!!
Yeah i went there...lol
This is what the Norse Gods listen to when going to a battle.
I love the song so much that the music come through my mouth and I vomit twice.
I didn't know these artists. Thank you very much, they are awesome.

This cant be true .. So F amazing hard, heavy, doom, folkish!
he basically said: stfu and listen to the music (:
Im in love with this band already!!! But i only just started listening to them today, could someone tell me how i would pronounce the band name XD
Imagine if vikings actually dressed like this. How god damn more awesome would they be?
Whoo... Much more people would have thought they're demons or something like that.
But... I mean... wow, epic!
FrostandAeon
how does scottish relate to this? im scottish too :)
this has shit all to do with vikings or the scottish for that matter. it's swiss folk metal

Yeah sad truth, as far as i know only the higher placed vikings had horns and different (maybe better) armour, and even about that im not entirely sure
some also never wore the horns simply because others would know they were stronger and in course they would get less challengers in the battlefield.
What? I am sure they did, but I was simply showing that this is Viking (the art) in the sense that Norns are Norse. Not just guild wars 2 fan art.
@thisissolo Your point is? neither have Kept up their end of the bargain so you can stop religiously trolling no one cares we are hear for music :)
@ilCepu era un mio amico che ci ha lasciati prematuramente... =( ... visto che un mio amico prima ha commentato, addio luca..ho scritto anche io...
Type this in google "celtic horned helmet" and click British Museum - Horned Helmet.
But you're right this is a Guild Wars concept art (I reckon)
It's just a piece of artwork. Doesn't have to be vikings, doesn't even have to be based on something real. Might just be game-inspired art tbh...
No. -You- insult eluveitie by throwing their name around like its your own to justify bashing on what other people do with their free time.
Well, I came here for only 1 and 1 unique thing, to listen to this music, so, let me enjoy it without historical comments or so :)
Eluveitie probably doesn't give a shit either way. But don't let that stop you from projecting your self-righteousness onto them. :)
why not? they are interesting? would you prefer for every comment to say how much they love the music? would get pretty repetitive, wouldnt it?
i know....for fuck's sake eluveitie sing about real warriors and these guys are talking about damn fictional fantasy....
...No. That concept art is from Guild Wars. Definitely Norse themed, but not everything that's Norse themed is from Skyrim.
God promised the end of all wicked people. Odin promised the end of all ice giants. I don't see any fucking ice giants.
The Celts and Vikings in unison. Massive roar! Naked blue Picts and Celts in unison with the Vikings and Gaulish Hoarde!
Valkyrie are female warriors from norse mythology
Vrykul are a race of warriors in World of Warcraft based on vikings
Well Britonic and Gaelic are connected languages due to the Celtic roots they have nowdays Britonic are spoken in Wales
@TheBit96 is right scottish & vikings took horned helms from there slain foe's. im a nourse pagan i know my religion
sad truth is that these aren't Vikings but Celts :P but you are right though... (Celts never had hornes eighter.....)
Horns on their helmets*, not on the horns, hah. Sorry, i'm kinda sleepy. ;)
Impressive isn't it? Especially considering that it is not a viking outfit.
um.... Nords aren't real dude. a Nord is a race from the Elder Scrolls series. i think you are meaning "Norse"
There were some helmets with horns on them but they were never used in battle, only for ceremonial purposes
you are quite right is that most of the time they are peddled prejudice and strengthens through the TV
i think that is the origin of the horns but vsauce also made a video about it so....yeah check it out.
Actually viking warriors never wore helmets with horns. This is a ceremional thing. but it's so cool :D
Didn't recognize the name of the song... I'm not that familiar anymore with Eluveitie's older stuff :/
this one is outstanding !!! what a piece ...
you insult Eluveitie be relating their music to WoW. Go play your Panda and listen to Justin Beiber.
@Plasticksprengstoff :D Yes, let us die with a defiant roar on our lips and with enemies at our feet!
does anyone know what Jêzaïg means? I can't find it anywhere :(
It's a breton/breizh word.
True, but some cheftains had horns, just like many of the Samurai.
but eluveitie is ELUVEITIE!!!....And they have a badass bagpipe to keep the spirit goin on! :D
The sad truth is that these armors never existed, and celtics helmets never had horns too ;)
Correct - the men pictured aren't even men, they're Norn (about twice the size of men)...
lol if u make picture smaller it looks like chaos warriors from warhammer or warhammer 40k
@thisissolo hahahaha \m/ o \m/ so true! Except that's the wrong culture for a Celtic band
