I love the sex pistols and my life would be not worth living if it weren't for them but I get annoyed when Noel calls it the best album of all time because it isn't. Although it saved alot of kids and gave them a voice, musically it hadn't influenced many people worth mentioning. Yes every punk band from around them were inspired by the pistols but punk isn't a thing anymore. Let go of the past and keep working on the future, it's all very well wishing for another sex pistols or you could go out and make a difference.

Totally agree with Noel Gallagher. I heard "Bodies" when I was 8 years of age. I was shocked. I still get shivers when I hear it now. This was it, my musical interest was ignited by this album. Still love it now 40 odd years later

Okay, here's the point I want to make. There was a big difference between punk rock and new wave. Punk rock was violent- that is if you weren't musical. New wave was stylish and colorful. It was much easier to be identified as new wave cause there was much less burden of uniformity. If you were a punker in 1977 it was a drastic commitment. "Where's your safety pin earings and your buzz cut dyed hair?" The problem was that whole self-social experiment had no traction if you weren't Sid Viscous.

People talk about Nevermind, Definitely Maybe etc as generation defining records, but they both fall into the bargain bucket when you compare it to NMTB. The greatest debut album by any band ever.
There are important bands that are seminal, and then there are bands that directly force a change onto society itself. I don't think anyone can dispute that the Sex Pistols were the latter.
I don't know why Glen Matlock is written out of the story. He wrote and played as the only capable musician, and there's this story that 3-chords played badly Steve Jones played lead AND bass and only he and Cook were "musicians"? Riiight! Thank Chris Spedding too. ;?))
Glen is credited for writing songs. But I do not think he was involved in the recording process (at least not for the actual studio album) and oddly enough Sid’s bass on Bodies is “buried” somewhere in the song... so he even has more work recording on that album than Glen lol...
John's looking a little worse for ware - hope his health is OK. This feels like its only part of a bigger documentary - certainly the influence was wider... why isn't Mani or Ian Brown on here? And Liam who still cites the Pistols as his number one musical influence (Lennon was more personal on him).
Chris Thomas gives it away: the Sex Pistols "sound" (what we heard on the album) was Jones on bass playing the same base chords of the riff octaves lower. The sound engineer in another vid said Jones played like clockwork, on time and never missed a chord, have him on the bass and voila, perfect synchronicity of bass and lead harmonics, "thats where the power comes from.
Quite a compliment from Noel Gallagher, who is not a bad songwriter, singer and musician himself. It's quite obvious that most of Oasis's early stuff had a Pistols influence, in addition to the Beatles (the latter of which only seemed to be mentioned by the music press). Even more respectful from Gallagher, given that Lydon slagged off Oasis back in the early 2000's.

Something doesn't add up here. Madness' first single was released in August 1979. They never recorded anything before that date. John Lennon died on 8th December 1980 yet here is an interview with him saying he had a tape of Madness two years ago but never played it. Even if that interview was recorded the day before he died it still doesn't add up. Two years before he died Madness were not known.
Middlesborough Rock Garden, October-ish 1977 under the name Acne Rabble. Don't remember it much, it was a stopping off point after a Boro match. There were me and a couple of mates that got separated and we ended up at the Rock Garden. We were about 15 sitting in The Acklam with our flares and football scarves tied round our wrists an fairly long hair, all these punks came in, we hung about to see what was going on. From that day on I was hooked.

Surprised to see Rollins celebrating the Pistols as he was never all that complimentary about them previously, referred to them as hairdressers or something. He and some other punks like John Doe for example considered The Damned more important. Someone will have to explain that one to me. The Damned made a great first album but from there it gets spotty. Some good things here and there but I could never get totally get into them and I've tried.
I don’t know which specific quotes you’re referring to, but it’s possible they (esp. John Doe) were referring to the relative importance of the bands *in the development of the LA punk scene*. There were a bunch of oddballs making noises before, but The Damned shows at The Whisky in 1977 had a galvanizing effect on L.A. punk not unlike the effect the famous Pistols show had in Manchester. I’d be shocked if either Doe or Rollins actually meant that The Damned were better or more important in the larger scheme of things. By the way, you can get an idea of the effect of those Damned shows in the Germs/Darby Crash biopic What We Do Is Secret, which includes what is by all accounts a pretty accurate depiction of The Damned’s impact.

I had NMTB on loud at home (I was 11) and Bodies came on. I have never moved so fast to turn the volume down once I clocked it...

I was lucky enough to see them in the early days it was a life changing experience
It meant something to art students and middle class trendies there was not one punk rocker at my school in the seventies in a hard core working class area

Probably the best sounding and provocative rock n roll album ever made. Absolutely great
Punk toughened everything up again when it was all getting very safe and tired. Acid House did a similar thing in 1987/8 when pop music was cringingly tedious. These days perhaps the problem is that anyone can put a tune streaming services, and there's so much music that's there's no real mutuality or fashion anymore that can be upset by bands like the Sex Pistols?

I was at summer camp when I was 13 in 1986 when an older kid kept playing this alien song over and over again. AiUK. My life hung a hard left and has never been the same since. No sycophantic hyperbole in any of these interviews. Especially now since music will get worse and worse because technology has replaced talent.
Noel Gallagher according to Wikipedia enjoys some of the songs on the very first album by Genesis - and John Lydon loves Peter Hammill which makes them even cooler in my book . That’s now 3 kids from a Council House who appreciate those artists 😁😇🏴❤️

Never Mind the Bollocks I didn't get it until after Punk had ended and now I think it's one of the greatest albums ever made. The anger and energy comes through like nothing before or nothing since and it's far more intelligent than I realised. I'm also a fan PiL.John is still a force to be reckoned with. Long may he reign!
Never mind it being a great "punk" album; it rocks harder....Much harder than almost all "rock" albums, even now! The axe is sublime and the lyric will last forever. (I see 100 muzzled potential H bombs walking round the supermarket everyday)

People talk about Nevermind, Definitely Maybe etc as generation defining records, but they both fall into the bargain bucket when you compare it to NMTB. The greatest debut album by any band ever.
There are important bands that are seminal, and then there are bands that directly force a change onto society itself. I don't think anyone can dispute that the Sex Pistols were the latter.
Pretty Vacant is up there with Whole Lotta Love. That is a riff and a half

Glen is credited for writing songs. But I do not think he was involved in the recording process (at least not for the actual studio album) and oddly enough Sid’s bass on Bodies is “buried” somewhere in the song... so he even has more work recording on that album than Glen lol...

John's looking a little worse for ware - hope his health is OK. This feels like its only part of a bigger documentary - certainly the influence was wider... why isn't Mani or Ian Brown on here? And Liam who still cites the Pistols as his number one musical influence (Lennon was more personal on him).

Chris Thomas gives it away: the Sex Pistols "sound" (what we heard on the album) was Jones on bass playing the same base chords of the riff octaves lower. The sound engineer in another vid said Jones played like clockwork, on time and never missed a chord, have him on the bass and voila, perfect synchronicity of bass and lead harmonics, "thats where the power comes from.

Quite a compliment from Noel Gallagher, who is not a bad songwriter, singer and musician himself. It's quite obvious that most of Oasis's early stuff had a Pistols influence, in addition to the Beatles (the latter of which only seemed to be mentioned by the music press). Even more respectful from Gallagher, given that Lydon slagged off Oasis back in the early 2000's.

Something doesn't add up here. Madness' first single was released in August 1979. They never recorded anything before that date. John Lennon died on 8th December 1980 yet here is an interview with him saying he had a tape of Madness two years ago but never played it. Even if that interview was recorded the day before he died it still doesn't add up. Two years before he died Madness were not known.

Middlesborough Rock Garden, October-ish 1977 under the name Acne Rabble. Don't remember it much, it was a stopping off point after a Boro match. There were me and a couple of mates that got separated and we ended up at the Rock Garden. We were about 15 sitting in The Acklam with our flares and football scarves tied round our wrists an fairly long hair, all these punks came in, we hung about to see what was going on. From that day on I was hooked.
first heard bout pistols september 76, heard "world premiere" of 3 songs march 77 on German radio, was 16 on 7/7/77 my father bought union jack socks that day (he was in the military) and still have them,torn,with holes in but they can't be destroyed, the world was never the same again….
you know....bringing sid into the band was a mistake but also a spectacular aspect....i read an article once, sid didn't even play bass properly but jhonny likes his attitude....

Surprised to see Rollins celebrating the Pistols as he was never all that complimentary about them previously, referred to them as hairdressers or something. He and some other punks like John Doe for example considered The Damned more important. Someone will have to explain that one to me. The Damned made a great first album but from there it gets spotty. Some good things here and there but I could never get totally get into them and I've tried.
I don’t know which specific quotes you’re referring to, but it’s possible they (esp. John Doe) were referring to the relative importance of the bands *in the development of the LA punk scene*.
There were a bunch of oddballs making noises before, but The Damned shows at The Whisky in 1977 had a galvanizing effect on L.A. punk not unlike the effect the famous Pistols show had in Manchester. I’d be shocked if either Doe or Rollins actually meant that The Damned were better or more important in the larger scheme of things.
By the way, you can get an idea of the effect of those Damned shows in the Germs/Darby Crash biopic What We Do Is Secret, which includes what is by all accounts a pretty accurate depiction of The Damned’s impact.
