Just rediscovered this piece after all these years. Proud to have been a Euphonium in the Canonsburg Middle School Band that commissioned this piece. Ah, memories…
We played this during my junior year of high school (I graduated two years ago), and we performed this for the state ratings festival. We were a very small band and we had a simpler chimes setup than the one that was provided at the festival, and our percussionists didn't realize that the chimes were dampened. So we ended up playing this whole piece with the chimes going "bonk bonk bonk bonk." We got a perfect score though, the only time in all four years, and when we played this it was the best we ever sounded. I'm now in college band and we're playing Hazo's Arabesque, it's an absolutely amazing piece.
Really? I know the movie your talking about but it doesn't remind me of that at all. It sort of reminds me of some adventure video game like kingdom hearts, the legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, or the theme song from Super Smash Bros. Seconds Out more heroic and uplifting. Also... Yeah O remember playing this song for middle school performances. It was an amazing song since we had a small band too and I played the chimes.
Hannah Lillian I feel ya, sweetie. My band's trombone section SUCKS. Only three actually play. The first is really good. The second can't tongue the notes, so he plays glissando ALL THE TIME. The other can't control his pitch, so he ALWAYS plays as loud and obnoxious as possible. He doesn't even try to fix it. His only excuse is that he plays loud because the TRUMPETS play loud. THE TRUMPETS!!! Worst still, he always berates the second guy for his glissando problem. At least guy 2 is trying!
My middle school band was the first to play this on the west coast. We played it in may of 2013 for our spring concert. Mr hazo helped our band on our spring tour and he gave us this piece! Such a great piece. I played the snare.
I played this for region band and I remember those days and every time I hear this I wanna cry cause I made new friends and actually was in a cool band
this song reminds me of 7th grade where i played this as a first flute in our second band (i’m in eight grade now). now it looks easy because i’m in top band but this song reminds me of when i has friends tbfh
This song was played at my nephew's high school graduation. The stupid band teacher rambled on about the song and boxing where the boxing trainers had to leave the corners of the ring before the boxing match starts yada yada.
I'm playing this at Auburn Junior High School in Band class right now i play trumpet and have been playing for 3 years. This is a excellent piece AND i know the director cause he directed me when i was in all state band :D I love playing this in class because the variety of instruments in my class and how Loud it is and it sounds wonderful! I'm first chair by the way :P First day of playing this in symphonic band it sounded amazing when we were just sight reading. Come here superior ranking o3o
my school performed this and for a solo, we had a trumpet player play the clarinet part but higher and it sounded amazing :) im the 1st Chair trumpet player
We're playing this in concert band and we all love it! Though we're playing it at a much faster, more exciting tempo and I think it sounds better that way.
I know a song that sounds quite similar and I have been looking for it for a very long time if anyone knows any songs that sound similar to this please let me know 🙏
I mean I wouldn't say it was perfect. At my school all the 6th graders who want to take band in high school had to take band, and my grade that performed this is mostly made up of people who have been playing for awhile beforehand.
I’m also going to play this in my spring concert I’m in 7th grade btw :/ idk u might care. | V (EDIT: I’m pointing to the comment that is playing this in there spring concert)

Right now, I am playing Euphonium in band. We are also playing this song and Darklands March and they are both such great pieces.
