    Kim, I had the same problem with a few packs of these seeds, I looked up information online and it turns out a lot of these seeds aren't dead they just dry out. If you soak them in distilled water for a day or two, until they sink) then plant them it is supposed to greatly improve the germination rate.

    I remember when I was a kid, I got a vft. Reppoted it in regular soil, watered with tap water and kept it in shadow (because I tought it was tropical plant). And when winter came I didn't give it a dormancy. Needles to say, it survived around half of a year.

      The quickest way is to get a few clean test tubes and put 1 seed in each test tube, and fill with distilled water. Keep them at ~80°F and provide ~12 hours fluorescent light( for when the seeds first germinate). it will take between 10-30 days depending on the seeds. The seeds will most likely float so wait until the following day, and shake the test tubes( make sure to cover the opening of the test tube or you will loose your seed).
      I keep the test tubes ~80°F by putting them in a test tube rack in a 10g aquarium with water and an aquarium heater. So far I have ~90-95% germination rate out of the 50 seeds I did last month.

    I just planted two days ago some seeds on sand with dead pine needles, I have them under raw direct sun! (almost direct sun, there's some shade from a roof I made with sticks) I'm trying to see if natural conditions without fancy sphagnum and artificial light can make them grow fast and healthy, also the temperature rises above 30°C in the day and 14°C at night. I'll come back to tell if they die or something.

    I recently bought seeds off the internet and just planet them and shortly after they seemed to develop a white film around the seed. And that doesn't seem to happen at all here and I looked it up and a lot of things were aiming towards fake seeds. I was just wondering what you think of this? Do you think I got gimped out and got fake seeds?

    • @enchantingtable1550
      @enchantingtable1550 2 роки тому +2

      Might be fake, but I'd grow em anyway just to see. As seen in the video, the first two leaves will be standard seed leaves and the third leave will be an trap leaf.
      If you don't want to wait for 2 months and then find out you ended up with basil, etc, the seeds should be black, slightly shiny like in the video, tear drop shaped, and less then 1/10th (or similar) of a millimetre in size. If it doesn't meet ALL of the requirements, then it's not a venus fly trap seed.

    Did you just grow them in cottons soaked in water?

    I am also growing several VFT from seed but I think I might have been scammed. My VFT are around 3 weeks old and their cotyledons are not like the ones in the video, they grew about an inch tall, I was expecting them to look like the ones in the video.

      Its better to buy seeds from icps or carnivores shop online. Not private seller. Hope you get the real one soon

    • @fjoa123
      @fjoa123 9 років тому +1

      Tish Jason
      the white one. Its kind of shocking when you're accustomed to the doctrine of good soil being very dark (:

    • @tishfire
      @tishfire  9 років тому +2

      +fjoa123 the white is cotton wool for easy photography. clearer photo. thats the only reason for cotton wool. later stage is on sphagnum moss. :)

    • @tishfire
      @tishfire  9 років тому

      not if the plant grows more than 2 leaves. they need to be out of water for proper air

    • @diamondaxe8
      @diamondaxe8 9 років тому

      +Diamondaxe8 no it's not. They don't survive in regular soil. Search google. They need something like peat moss

    The more sun you give them the quicker they will grow after 20 days. Once the green appears they will want sun just like a regular vft.
