Thanks for the info regarding removal of "non-removable" shields! I've discarded a few bearings because I thought I couldn't open them up to effectively clean out old, dried-up gunk. Now I know! "And knowing is half the battle." - G.I. Joe PSAs.
Thanks! And thanks for watching and your input. Yes, using an ultrasonic cleaner can work also. Hit the thumbs up and spread the word about the channel.
The 2 bearing on a penn 113h2lw aren’t able to open from what I can tell and bearings are very small. Do you have and tips for this specific reel? If bearing is left open will it effect casting ability of reel?
Thanks for watching and reaching out! Great question!!!!! Thanks for bringing it up. On the Senators with true bearings, you can dislodge the bearing from the cup on right side handle plate..... you'll have open the casing peen slightly and force the bearing out..... yes, it can be tricky. On the left side handle plate bearing, I think you can use the same concept, but I've never tried it and always just replaced the bad ones. Note that if you remove the bearing from the cup on the right side, it won't "pop" back in, but you can still use the cup and bearing..... the bearing will simply sit in there "loosely". Regarding the bearing being left open, I assume you're referring to the shields..... it actually improves the "castability" of the reel because you're taking away an extra point of friction. For this reason, I prefer open bearings on conventional reels.... I oil the spool bearing and grease the plate bearings. Hope this helps. Spread the word about the channel.
Great vid. Never knew how to clean out those sealed bearings.
