Seeing Shirou do the high jump and rizzing both Rin and Sakura made him jealous enough try and one up him and being a hero. Is how I can see it even happen.
Edit: Perseus Pseudo Assassin with Shinji as a Carrier and just a half. Perseus is a demigod with a smal rank in divinity. Maybe him trying to use his own summoning circle at the SAME time as Sakura does. Tsiah speaks interesting plot points.

The Path of the King fanfic actually does a good on redeeming Shinji's character. Though to honest after reading it, the fanfic kind of gave me the idea where elements of his route could easily be molded in with Riders Route because i dont think him having a route could work unless you plan on changing the entirety of the story of FSN.

My only idea for it to work is to have Shinji only mentally and emotionally abuse Sakura, as I would argue in terms of story writing that is something a character can be redeemed from. Endevor from MHA is a good example of that, and have Shinji sexually assaulting Sakura happened much later in the routes or maybe only in the Heaven's Feel route as the worst timeline for Shinji.

The thing I find most interesting about shinji is his somewhat unique position in the setting which is the fact that he knows about magecraft but basically can't use it which is a very unique position to be in considering the fact that most people in the nasuverse that can't use magecraft don't know it exist.

There was an interesting idea from an old blog about what if Sakura refused to hand Rider to Shinji, leading to Zouken humoring Shinji's desire to participate by giving him Cursed Arm Hassan. In this scenario, I can see Cursed-arm acting as a somewhat cautionary mentor to Shinji, perhaps through exploring his self-admitted naivety in giving up everything to pursue fame as a Hassan and using that to challenge Shinji's incessant need to prove himself

Hm, it's overall a very interesting idea you've described, even though I disagree with some points or limitations you've set. I will say that I would like to see how a story like that could work...
...but I see one major issue with it: What you've described is essentially a pure Shinji story rather than a Shinji route of FSN. To be fair, you did go a bit into this at the very end, but even so, I don't see a good way for the rest of what a proper Shinji route would need to entail to fit into it. If you treat this story as a standalone, I don't see much a problem with that, but FSN - despite letting the various other characters have their own sides of the story - is ultimately a story about Shirou, and every route explores a distinct theme regarding his experiences, dreams and ideals.
From a Doylist point of view, that's basically a must-have for FSN. Anything else just wouldn't match the concept. Yet what place - different from the other routes - is there for Shirou where his duality with Shinji would come into play? As you've said - and I agree with this - the most suitable development of the plot would be similar to HF, but I don't find it fitting (or, more importantly, interesting) to let Shirou's side be pretty much the same as HF.
I do agree that this idea would make for a good side plot of another route, probably a Medusa route where Shinji (somehow) summons Perseus as a Saber, and Shirou, now without a servant, teams up with Rider one way or another to fight for Sakura's sake. However, that would, after all, be Rider's route, not Shinji's.
Actually, I've asked myself the question, "What could a Shinji route even be like?" myself at some point, and I've spun some points until they, I kid you not, formed a full-fledged draft of a whole story. I'll spare you the details, but the major concepts were as follows:
For starters, as mentioned before, I view a focus on a Shirou-Shinji dynamic as a requirement. To that end - and this is one of the most important disagreements I have with your analysis - the starting point would be an alliance between Shirou and Shinji. Also, I'd assume Rider to be Shinji's "acting servant" - while I agree with you that Shinji summoning Perseus would be more fitting and probably more interesting, I just don't see any realistic way for him to summon that servant in the given setting, even though I entertained the idea before. As for the actual alliance, we did see how it could come to pass in the VN: I believe it's in the Fate route when Shinji makes that offer to Shirou, and the (main) reason why he refuses is that he's already teamed up with Rin. If, however, she postponed that proposal for whatever reason, and it would be Shinji who comes to Shirou first with the same explanation as in that route, I could see Shirou agree to it.
Now, as for what a thematically interesting and distinct Shirou-Shinji dynamic might be like, I see one potential basis for it: Shirou and Shinji have one significant character trait in common, namely that both chase after an impossible dream, Shirous's being becoming a superhero, and Shinji's being becoming a magus. That similarity should be the focal point of a Shinji route.
Pretty much everything that went wrong in Shinji's head does, in one way or another, stem from the fact that he stubbornly wants to be a magus despite the fact that he simply can't. I don't see any path even close to redemption or even any not completely toxic way forward for him that doesn't feature him coming to terms with that and abandoning this futile ambition. Basically, what I have in mind is to lead Shinji down the road to where he is in HA: Still a douchebag (because, let's be honest, there's no way Shinji doesn't turn out like that without writing a completely and thoroughly different version of his character), but at least not the most vile, pathetic waste of human life to ever exist.
Now, how could that potentially happen if we start anywhere near canon Shinji? Well, that's where Shirou comes into play. This is something that Rin actually calls Shinji's out for in HF, but the major differentiating factor between Shirou and Shinji is that Shirou, despite having his fair share of issues and the aforementioned impossible dream, deals with his shortcomings so much better than Shinji does. As Rin puts it, Shirou, while being equally lacking in talent, does at least have a more suitable mindset, which ultimately makes him the better magus. In the canon routes (especially HF), we see what happens if Shinji can't accept that fact: He goes completely bonkers.
But what if he doesn't? To be fair, why would he react any other way when he decides that he must defeat Shirou to prove his alleged superiority in all of the other scenarios? Well, let's not forget that Shinji is, on a fundamental level, a coward - fighting Shirou is simply out of the question if he ends up depending on him, which may very well happen if the two of them team up (and that's why the Shirou-Shinji alliance is vital for my conceptual draft). It wouldn't happen immediately, as Shinji won't reflect on his self-image unless he's simply - physically or mentally - forced to, but eventually, he'd have to judge himself by Shirou's standards.
The outcome I have in mind is that Shinji, in part due to seeing Shirou's recklessness, which stems from his own impossible dream, comes to realise the flaws in both Shirou's dream and - by the aforementioned comparison between himself and Shirou - his own, and eventually, he'd conclude that his obsession with magecraft is leading him down a dark path, and that the most reasonable way forward to him is to cut his ties with the magecraft of the Matou - and to put an end to Zouken's madness.
As for Shirou... That's a bit more complicated. Shinji's part of the story dictates that the theme of the Shinji route would be "abandoning self-harming dreams". Accordingly, Shirou would have to give up his goal of becoming a superhero - not just becoming a "superhero of all" (which he also does in HF), but also becoming a "superhero of one". From a Doylist perspective, that's good, because that'd be the element that sets Shirou's journey apart from those in the other routes. However, from a Wattsonian point of view, I just can't see it happening. We know that Shirou's ideals can easily lead him down a dark path (for himself, at least), but he had the embodiment of all of his bad life choices standing right in front of him in UBW, and he refused to acknowledge it. Against this backdrop, I don't see Shirou just straight-up abandoning this dream altogether no matter what happens.
However, if the right conditions are met, he might at least ease up a bit. Just as Shinji would reflect on his way of life through the lense of Shirou, Shirou would have to contemplate what Shinji's problems teach him about his own. Just as Shinji, Shirou would come to realise the flaws of Shinji's dream, and what his stubborn pursuit of it had done to him. He'd empathise with him as far as his goals are concerned. Shirou, too, wants to be a magus despite not meeting the proper requirements, even if it's for different reasons. He wouldn't see anything wrong with what Shinji wishes he could be, but the dire consequences would be in plain sight if Shirou interacts with Shinji much more closely than he does in the other routes.
While Shirou, just as Shinji, would not immediately draw the connection to his own issues (he'd at least be unwilling to admit it), he might eventually be forced to see it. For instance, his disregard for his own safety could become an apparent problem if he gets himself hurt in a way that forces those around him to step up and get into trouble if he hadn't recklessly put himself out of commission, or it could, for a change, become clear to him that those close to him will worry about him if he's like that no matter how much he'll try to keep them out of the dangerous things he's doing.
Once again, I don't believe Shirou would drop his desires to help others, even at his own expense, entirely, and his side of the story is considerably more complicated anyway, especially since Shirou's issues are actually less concerning (and therefore don't need to be fixed quite as obviously). Even so, I could see him come to the conclusion that chasing after any ideal obsessively won't do anyone - wheter it's him or others - any good. The version of Shirou at the end of this story that I have in mind would, at the very least, not make the contract with Alaya as Archer did.
Anyhow, this is already a monstrous comment, so I'll better leave it at that.

@@nonamebecausewhy473 I'm honestly interested in your idea of a Shinji route. It really does make sense when I think about it.
I do have a few questions but I'll just ask one. Where do you think Rin falls into this? She's a major part of every route by virtue of being Shirou's ally but here Shinji would be his partner instead.

    • @nonamebecausewhy473
      @nonamebecausewhy473 3 місяці тому +1

@@alexanderticonuwu7591 That's a good point, and I agree that it'd be only natural to give Rin a significant role - although this one is definitely within the territory where I'd have to figure out quite a lot of details.
I reckon the most suitable role for her would be that of a reluctant antagonist, sort of like in the early stages of UBW - the story might even branch off from there. I'd say some conflict between Rin and Shinji is bound to happen, and Shirou teaming up with him would probably rile her up even more, one way or another. Ironically, I still don't see Shirou wanting to fight Rin, so he'd try to win her over to their side... but I doubt there's any chance for that to work if "their side" includes Shinji, especially since I'm not sure if he'd be on board with the idea - I have a feeling that the more natural option would be for him to be against it.
That said, as much as Rin would put up a strong and hostile front - her pride as a magus would essentially force her to - I don't think she'd fight them very seriously. Even in the parts in FSN when Shirou was her nominal enemy, she was still going easy on him, and I don't see this being different here.
To pick up at the "what Shinji would think" part again, I believe the Rin-Shinji dynamic would be quite important for her role, considering the theme of Shinji handling his doomed aspirations as a magus. In canon, he's desperately vying for her acknowledgment, so much so that the lack thereof becomes a major driving force of his downward spiral. Sure, his one-sided rivalry with Shirou is more prominent, but I'd say that one major reason for all of that is the fact that Rin would acknowledge Shirou as a magus rather than him.
Considering that a major point of my idea is to have Shinji give up on becoming a magus, the natural conclusion of this conflict would be - as underwhelming as this may sound - that he'd just stop caring all that much about it anymore. I suppose there'd be an alternative option of Shinji facing off against her in a symbolic battle where Shinji opposes the world of magi that he once wanted to belong to so desperately, but I have the feeling that Zouken would be a more fitting target for that.
Another aspect that probably shouldn't be overlooked when talking about Rin's role is Archer's POV. I picture him initially finding the idea of Shirou teaming up with Shinji of all people to be laughable, if not downright infuriating. However, he'd also be intrigued by the eventual prospect of Shirou not going down the same path as him, and he'd probably support that development to some extent. That would inevitably have at least some influence on Rin's side of the story.
In the end, Rin would see that Shirou and Shinji made their alliance work in a way that helped both of them, and she'd approve in her own way. Who knows, she'd probably even help them with the final showdown (I mean, that, too, is something she does in every route).
These are pretty much all of the clearer cornerstones I've come up with for Rin in this route. Anything beyond that would require a lot more planning and deliberation.

at first I thought; "so, a more grounded Shinji battling his demons to secure a future for the Matou bloodline (marrying Sakura, not as the creep, but as the jaded lover that Sakura ignored in favor of her "ideal" lover encapsulated by Shirou and his altruism), allying with Shirou (and maybe others) to defeat Zouken, mending the alliance with the founding families Tohsaka (Rin) and the Einzberns (Shirou/Illya) to achieve the original Heaven's Feel as it was originally intended, and finally with all those in place be recognized as a powerhouse of the Magecraft.
All as a spin to what happened to him canonically; blinded by greed and ambition, abandoning his morals for degeneracy, villainaizing and alienating his family and friends by his shameless flaunting and flexing of "minimalist magecraft" in alchemy of all things (Shirou spamming swords, Rin throwing gems, Sakura twisting shadows, Illya weaving her hair into 360° laser turrets).

One approach that can be taken while keeping both Heavens Feel and his vile character in the other routes is to lean in the Atlas Academy approach.
Removing the aspects of him preying on others, but instead being a major self centered bully who's fighting for control is a solution that I think can easily work. There are ways to still as messed up as it sounds, to be that horrible person in the 3 main routes but you know, not going into the predator territory.
I dont want him to have a servant as it takes away from his character in my perspective. And throws a major wrench in many things.
One approach that can be taken is Medea becoming his servant at some point. Seeing his potential as an alchemist and creator for magical items. How that would happen? I have no idea atm.
Albeit because those 2 characters conflict so much it maybe hard to do. But you can also make a major comparison to both him and Jason. Both are extrmely pompous, arrogant, and i could go on. Difference here is that Medea could help him grow out of this awful trend along with Shirou.
Its just the ideas I got.

I could see the Shinji route going 2 ways:
1.[Evil Route]: Shinji and Shirou team up to stop/kill everyone else, by making him have the “simple” wish of being a magus, recognize that the Holy Grail is his only chance at that AND convince Shirou that his wish is severally tamer than everyone else(on the account of them being a mystery).
This would lead to them acting as shackles to each other by making it so that Shirou doesn’t go all “Mind of Steel” on everyone and for Shinji not to fall back on his *really* bad habits. And over the course of the route both of them start to trust each other and rekindle their old friendship.
When they reach the end, depending on your choices, Shinji entrust Shirou to make his wish on his behalf *OR* if you failed, they betray each other and the Holy Grail goes; ‘Karma b*tch’ and floods either or both of them.
    2.[Save Everyone]: Is a bit longer so I’ll try to summarize it;
Shinji goes to Church, meets Kirei, meets one of the kids in the basement, kid depends on him and Shinji tries to help, is a coward and fails spectacularly.
Flash forward to school from Shirou’s POV, get dragged by Shinji to rooftop, where Shinji just as a breakdown and confesses everything to Shirou(Inferiority Complex, Wrongdoings, Holy Grail War, etc.), after a bit of knocking some sense into him, both agree to team up to stop this shit.
Here’s the twist: this conversation? Is happening a *week* before the start of the actual story making it so that both of them can prepare in advance to deal with the War, and during it, Shinji uses his access to mage craft knowledge acts as the brains to Shirou’s brawn all the while teaching each other.
And over the course of the War the duo also team up with Rin, Ilya, Sakura, Saber, and really and all of the “good” guys, add in some interaction between all of them: Shinji asking forgiveness from Sakura(and her response), Both sets of siblings reconciling, etc.
Ending in a all out brawl against the “Bad” guys(Kirei and Zouken) where Shinji sacrifices himself for Sakura(or Shirou) and ask Shirou to promise not to “save everyone or those in front him or even one person” or even his “inherited ideals”.
...but instead to save others for *himself*.
The interactions between the two during the route + this moment would turn Shirou’s Ideal from a purely Altruistic one into a Selfish one where he seeks his own happiness outside of his own ideal.
Afterwards, everyone was able to achieve the [“True” Heaven’s Feel], Ilya gains a normal body, everyone(alive) reconciles with each other and starts doing their own thing.
And Shirou, instead of becoming a “True Hero” becomes a private eye/vigilante that helps others to the best of his abilities, alongside the backing of the 3 big Families and the knowledge he got from Shinji.
God, this was way longer than I wanted it to be, and I(probably) didn’t convey the flow of the routes correctly, but I hope you enjoyed reading it regardless!

Better if disgusting way for Shinji to redeem himself would be if he ended up using the worm magecraft to escape Zouken’s control and ends up in a similar situation to Zouken, as a gross living hive of crest worms.
Shiro becomes Shinji’s worm form host, which leads to Shiro’s route specific buff, with Shinji functioning as a living crest to make Shiro a functional mage. In the end Shinji is stuck living as a parasite with Shiro, but ultimately still a happy ending as Shiro and Shinji end up becoming a hero together.

What if we give Shinji more inner loathing about his actions, and some of the actions he does do go against what he actually wants to do.
As far as I can tell Shinji has the abstract goal of “being good enough”. Him playing second fiddle to just about everyone in the series has warped his sense of perspective to the point he wants to lash out at anyone deemed capable or superior to him. This character probably needs more instances of introspection where he detests this part of himself. Or at the very least an opportunity to actually face some of the reprehensible actions he’s done more directly.

The problem is he doesn't even realize he's lashing out because he feels inferior. He thinks he's just lashing out because his position justifies him getting everything he wanted, even if he causes his own failures. That's inferiority complex for you. He's always blaming someone else.
To redeem him you need someone, anyone, to rely on him. Telling him that no one can do this but him. This way he would have acknowledged any failings as his own (because no one else could've failed it) and break himself down for reformation. The problem is no one in the series will ever need nor want to rely on Shinji. The closest is Kirei manipulating him by sending him to tag with Gil. Even then we saw how positive his response towards that.
If there's one route where Shirou punches the hell out of Shinji and entrusts him with Sakura's safety, I'm sure he would protect her (unless Zouken or Kirei manipulated him into doing otherwise, which is honestly more likely to happen). He's such a fragile character in a fiction where everything goes wrong for every character.

We can't have Kirei giving him false reassurance and inflating his ego more. Even before that he needs a better reason to rescue kids from Kirei's basement anyway. Redeeming Shinji is so hard he's just the wrong character in the wrong settings.

A way I could see this working as might be making Shinji a sociopath akin to kirie or completely focused on secretly killing Zoken as a response to all the things Zoken did to Sakura and himself. Not a natural born sociopath but a manufactured one as a response to Zoken's abuse and witnessing what Zoken did feeding his mother to the bugs and seeing him do worse to Sakura and that violation happening repeatedly. That everything he does is a step toward survival not just for himself but also Sakura I completely understand fearing Zoken but he has to have contemplated trying to murder Zoken through mundane means as a nod to Kiritsugu and his methods adding magecraft once he getd Medusa through the book as a golden opportunity to kill Zoken completely.

In the event of throwing Shinji a bone (like Shirou's Avalon), would getting Illya's heart put inside him in the UBW route reactive his latent magic circuits? I remember Rin mentions something to that nature when Shirou asks about Shinji being a magus capable of becoming the Grail. It shows Shinji recovering in the hospital after the final fight in UBW, but I was wondering if his magic circuits be active now that he became the Grail candidate for a little bit. If his circuits are now active, the Clocktower and future appearances in the Lord El-Melloi Case Files stuff becomes possible.
Granted it would not take away from the things that he did during the UBW route, but he fact that Sakura was in the hospital watching over his recovery leads me to believe that a possible redemption route for him would be possible. It could go into the idea you mentioned about him trying to take back his spot as the Matou heir from Sakura.
This all of course is pointless if it is mentioned anywhere in the UBW novel that Shinji being ripped from the Grail revert his magic circuits to entropy again.

honestly one thing that I was thinking about in regards to a revamped Shinji (aside from the obvious removal of the rape stuff) would be to have his servant be a negative role model (as opposed to a guiding force like Rider was for Sakura). Have the servant he gets paired up with be a sort of dark reflection of his ideals and personality. Shinji goes throughout the plot alongside the servant and sort of realizes how shit a person he is by observing his servant who is like him in all the worst ways possible. Hell, maybe pull a fight club and have Shinji's servant end up being his final obstacle, a sort of metaphorical fight against himself.

As a loser, insecure, and a mediocre sort of person myself, I relate to his character more than anyone else. It is agonizing to know that your family legacy will end because of your own mediocrity and you are constantly reminded of that fact.
Even still I would choose to punch him repeatedly because that shit he did to Sakura was unforgivable.
And then I will stop talking now. Bottom line is I like seeing him. I take what scraps I get in /Grand Order/ as just a Craft Essence illustration. It's just something I cant openly say 😅😅😅

    @cyborgcatrj6794 Місяць тому

One major benefit of getting a Shinji Route is that the easiest way to make Shinji remotely redeemable is to make him suffer to the point that he snaps.
A path I think could work would be if Rin and Sakura reconnect earlier in the timeline. Without anyone else in her life, Rin desperately tries to reach out to Sakura and becomes an anchor for her. At some point Sakura comes to the inevitable conclusion that she doesn’t want to become a master if it means she might have to fight and kill Rin someday, so she either runs away from home or refuses to summon Medusa. Zouken is desperate and impatient at this point and more prone to taking risks seeing as he’s running out of time, so he puts Shinji into a similar training regimen that Karia went through, but with years to prepare and perfect his development Shinji retains his sanity. Then Zouken might even use the crest worms to turn Shinji into a Demi Servant with Perseus, now fully under Zouken’s control. Hell, Zouken might even pull a Marisbary and use his stolen magecraft techniques to clone Shinji to the point that he grew one capable of hosting a servant.
It probably goes without saying that Zouken would be a major threat in this route, as he has Assassin, Rider, and possibly Archer through his influence over Sakura and by extension Rin. Maybe even have him succeed in fully taking over either Shinji or Sakura. Maybe even let Shinji sacrifice himself to give Sakura or Shiro the shot at killing Zouken for good.

Or maybe it could the only route that doesn't involve a good guy. The method to fixing Shinji as a villain is pretty simple, make him competent. He can still be as vile but also making him capable so that any interaction with him is actually scary. Allow him to actually hold a candle to the other villains and maybe even get rid of some of them like Zouken hell maybe even have him be the final boss. Have him take over the process of being turned into a grail and he then has power.

Imagine if Shinji summoned Lampião instead, it could goes three ways:
    1) Being killed because he is a coward, and for the king of northeast if you have no metaphorical balls you should not have physical ones too.
    2) Get along because both are rapists with no moral code (unless it was the Robin Hood wannabe version of him, the chill smartass)
    3) Almost kills Shinji but keeps him alive so he can get some mana and do whatever he wants, depending of the version could be even worse then Shinji as a person, or being an actual good guy trying to use the Grail to change the course of history to not having his group betrayed and excecuted.

What I think should happen is that just like what you said he fight to free sacra except the entire time while he show some love and compassion to her a majority of the time he show hatred to her for taking away his family legacy and usurping his place in the family. And while he should express that he understands that it is not her fault and she never chose to be in the position she’s in. She is still taking his spot light in the family away from him and that monster how hard he try’s to tell himself it not her fault do to human nature being the way it is he can never get ride of the animosity he hold for her because of the way human are, selfies creatures by nature. Now he will still fight for her and protect her and try to save her from zokin but I imagine it to be like a tsundara situation where his love her in the inside but show hatred on the outside because of the situation
This would also in turn hide his intentions to help her by showing hatred at her desalting in zokin not really he is going to help her
