  • Contrary to what the title of the video might imply, no, it’s ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY to be a god damn noob. Not in World of Warcraft. Not ever. And you know it! Professor Peterson sure as hell knows it, that’s why he uses the word fool. Bummer. Now, you could argue that the title is completely unrelated to the clip and you were misled. But it would be a pretty noobish thing to fall for something like this, wouldn’t it? Anyway, since you’re here …
If you would like to achieve the status of a non-noob human being, Jordan Peterson has just the right tool for you. His online program “Self Authoring” goo.gl/5rHcWh helps you to analyze your past, to get your present life in order and to identify a more rewarding path for your future. It’s like power leveling your life. And you can even pay for it just like you once paid that poor Chinese guy’s overseer to have your pitiful main char maxed out, because you “just want to raid and pvp”. Man, you should be ashamed of yourself for that one. The more reason to go through with the program, though.
Psyche Matters is an official affiliate of “Self Authoring”, so if you follow the link through, you will not only support Jordan Peterson and his endeavors but also this channel in a small way - and most importantly yourself. Thank you.
The clip is only a small excerpt of Jordan B. Peterson’s psychology lecture “2017 Personality 08: Carl Jung and the Lion King (Part 2)“ held at the University of Toronto. You can watch it entirely here: • 2017 Personality 08: C...
The last bit is from his lecture “2017 Personality 06: Jean Piaget & Constructivism”: • 2017 Personality 06: J...

Best part of being a master is the memory becoming of one. Even then if you stop learning you stop living. The art of mastery is wrapped around the purpose of life.

I'm digging these lectures. They give other words to ideas I've poorly expressed and like this one contain useful practical advice

I am reminded of Adam Kreek's TedX talk, "I seek failure". The same message, to do what you can and see where your current limits are, so you can ultimately go beyond them.

While I am not typically one to point things out in a title, for a channel such as this is doesn't necessarily feel like pissing in the wind, so ...
While one is significantly more popular in use, there are actually two ways to spell that word. The first, and most popularly used one is *noob* which is a slur of the second, *newb* , and is an insult directed at a player who is not just poor at whatever thing they are trying to do (typically in the context of a game, and if the slur is being tossed around chances are it an online multi-player game), but someone who is so within themselves that they are incapable of improving. A *newb* on the other hand, short-hand for newbie, is merely just someone who is new at a particular process but notably *IS* capable of of learning and improving.
So, in this roundabout way, I'm wondering if, perhaps, you meant to use 'newb' instead of 'noob' in your title, unless, of course, you knew this from the offset and is part of the extended joke illustrated by the silent screen shot of a game shown at the 1:50 mark.

Thanks for your elaborate comment; you are right of course about the noob/ newb difference. It’s a bit misleading by design as I tried to convey with the exaggerated rant in the description. But I should be aware that no one has a reason to read those, ever. So i guess the joke is on me. :) JBPs advice in this clip is still valid, though, that’s the main thing.

Indeed he is, and don't worry about the rest either, it's why I left some wiggle room for either scenario as it can sometimes be difficult to discern a joke when it is solely through writing for drier kinds of humor.

I appreciate you bringing his videos, not crazy about your re-interpretations. Where does Dr. Peterson say its not okay to be a noob? Sounds like he says you have to risk it. If I see a new player I help them. They already have to deal with so many toxic jerks as it is. Elitists are good for the run and bad for the guild.
I don't think Dr. Peterson would agree with what you are saying. I think he would instead encourage you to help new players not berate them.
