VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Mike is from New York and made a conscious decision to avoid high rent and not settle for a mortgage. In the process, he fell in love with van life after "giving it a try." Three years later, he's on his second rig and thriving!
His current tiny house on wheels is a 2001 Chevy Express 3500 - 14 ft long box truck. The interior has a functional look with all the necessary appliances to make this truck feel like home. There's a kitchen with a two-burner stove, a small sink, and small cabinets for storage. Mike's bed is high enough to keep a toolbox underneath but low enough for him to sit comfortably in bed.
His office is stationary as he works a solid work week and needs the desk to suit his job. On the exterior, you'll find a sweet motorcycle mounted that makes for an excellent transportation piece once he's parked!

This guy seems like a wonderful addition to mankind.
Agree!!
@danaarrick9500 and you are all my children as i am God.
The only thing I don't like with the box trucks is there's no windows. My van is a Ford Econoline 4x4 conversion I can take it anywhere.
I so agree
Agreed, impressed with his setup, and outlook. I'm thinking that is what I'm searching for.
I like this guy. Laid back, not nervous or awkward. Easy to listen to.
I think this is awesome. If I wasn’t 76 and on the down hillside, I would be out there with you.
hey!!! my first trip out west in my van was when i was 76!! have been out again a coupleof times. now, after having both my hips replaced, i am going again this november, and i will have my 80th birthday in my van!!!! so GO FOR IT!!
Mee too
I love the simplicity of this build. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the luxury builds you see so often
Yes, this is a reality for 80-90% of aspiring van/truck builders. Simple, but very efficient.
a simple modest build with hightech additions that cover's his needs! real great outlook on tiny homes too. Hope to see an update on his future add-ons.
What did I like most...his home is recycled....repurposed....reused....perfect for him. We have become a disposal society. If it doesn't work, toss it and get something new. I love when someone can make a home out of that which someone else rejects. Well done, Mike. Thanks for sharing your home with us. Safe travels. 🚚
You took the words out of my mouth!!
This guy surely know how to save money and go max on simplicity .
I love how he reuses and recycles. So creative!
This guy has perked up my day. I love finding people who aren't afraid to find themselves, and this guy has been successful at it too. The truck, just the type to have, his ideas, so much the type to have, I wish him the best of luck in exploring the places he will go, and the people he will meet.
I like your truck!!! It's the simplicity. Good stuff!!!🙂
Man, what a cool dude. Great story!
I love this setup. Simple living. Good job!
love the simplicity of it. just shows us vanlife is possible without a huge budget 🙂❤️
Hi Mike with a bike! I also had a 14' box truck with my scooter inside. Most RVers bring their house, I bring my garage. See ya down the road.
What a lovely man. We could do with a few more like him in the world!
Mikey is quite clearly the man with the plan!! awesome story and home on wheels, and definitely inspiring to me to 1 day get anything similar 🤙👏👏🔥❤🎉😎👊
I think it's important to live and then design, people often spend a ton of money and then live in the van. This guy will know what to build, his wife / partner may want more!
This is awesome! Very creative with the repurposed furniture, etc. It's a perfect little open concept home! Thanks for sharing!
Repurposed furniture = big savings.
I was convinced that a Mercedes Sprinter diesel was the best way to travel , but then I watched your video.I love all the different options you and other people give me.Thank you.Me and my Toyota Sienna with a fan.
i like" doesnt really matter how it looks to me,its functoinal" the build is great, kinda remind me of my father.. well done sir..
That diesel tank on the wall makes me nervous haha
Propane?
Thanks for sharing and your encouragement to get moving forward. Safe travels
Simple, practical and adventurous. Love it.
I like the DYI vibe. Gives me courage to do this myself. Thanks.
What a cosy space
I have to show this to my bro, it would be his dream home. A bed, a place for his computer & no windows.. lolz!! You certainly seem happy & I so love how you have used stuff you have manifested on the side of the road or to come to you.. Cheers Debbie ☺
Great philosophy. Practical, simple and effective build. Keep enjoying your happy and chosen life. 👍
This guy is so cool and I will take his advice. Do not be afraid to discover what is behind the veil. 😊 He must be popular with 1.4 mill subscribers. 😊
Very utilitarian and well planned
That last segment @18:55 - dude is dropping some pearls of wisdom. Thank you
What do you do for a bathroom and shower?
This is what van life is all about,we live in our vans because we can't afford a big house and we do it up with what we can, this is what makes it exciting,I do what I like and I like what I do 😊
So cool !!! I like how he lives. It makes me really think I can do this to. MAYBE GOD BLESS YOU AND BE SAFE.
SUPER COOL HOOK UP 😎
Mike is wicked smart!
I love the life you've built for yourself.
Pretty good setup. I would make 3 changes. 1. Working remotely, you need a high availability internet set-up 2. Seems to need something in place for security. Hopefully, you will never need it, but being on the road, you will likely get yourself in some awkward situations 3. You really need a better office chair with proper back support.
You’re a straight up real NYer! 👍🏽 718!
It’s so New York! I adore this
Nice rig for a nice dude! Bravo air.
MAN YOU ARE TRULY FANTASTIC! IF ONLY ID HAVE YOU IN OUR FAMILY WE WOULD'VE REALY HAD BETTER LIVES, I KNOW LIFE IS HARD AND NOBODY'S PERFECT, BUT YOU TRY REALY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER WE NEEDED THAT POSITIVE ATTITUDES
@9:44 - This actually ;looks like a Centennial Man movie screenshot.. Loved it... Hahaha.. Really loved it..
YOU ARE EXACTLY WHAT WE ALL NEED, THANK YOU.
How about a shower and bathroom??? Also circulation of air?? I am glad you are working it out and finding happiness as well many take a lifetime to do that!!
Good questions! Insulation? Fan? A/c? Bathroom?
I would put a portapotti under the bed, and a shower stool with inflatable kiddy pool and a hamam bowl for pouring water over me, like in a Turkish bath. Then if I wasn’t near a gym or it was late at night, I would have options.
Very enjoyable share of your life and rig. I’m a fellow (female) traveler and agree wholeheartedly what you said about the people you meet. I never met so many people that will help you and give of themselves like the nomad community. I could never live in a house again, almost 6 years now and the pro’s out way the cons every time. ♥️♥️♥️
So, where do you go potty?
I enjoyed watching this. You couldn’t pay me to live this way but it was great fun to see your world through your eyes.
No toilet? No shower? Well, that’s one way to live…
RIGHT & I WOULD HAVES TO HAVES THEM THINGS TOO
I wish he would have addressed the toilet and shower so we could learn from his experience.
Sweet little home ❤
Love this video...keeps me inspired to stay on the road. Been in the sticks and bricks, and constantly need change of view for stimulation, he said it perfectly. Thanks.
Yes!
You should find a way to have like a screen or a window addition to the back door. So if you want you could have the door up and have either a window with tint so you can see out but no one can see in. If possible you could also do a screen so it would let in fresh air when you need it but keep the bugs out.
I like the build. I myself don't cook much so if I had this kind of build, I would just remove the cooking area and replace it with those portable induction stoves used for camping. They're small and they run off of electricity. One less fuel resource to worry about. Also looks like enough room for one of those portable showering tents. Just deploy it to take a bath and fold it back up when you're not using it.
Yes.
I sooo love this and everything you said what your life/journey means too you!
Thank you
Rent is so crazy
.Glad you have a great place to live🎉.Enjoy and stay safe 🎉🎉
Great outlook!
Gracias por tu video
Nice job, box truck is the way to go!
Great video
This is the way to go if you don't have the luxury of doing a full build with a lot of up front money like I did, buy the best truck you can afford and just move in and immediately stop wasting your money on rent, get cheap/free stuff to make if functional and turn it into exactly what you want over time. More freedom, less slavery. I also agree about the lack of windows, not many of us can afford a view anyway and if you can then just go outside, you can maintian temperature easier without them and stealth might end up being more important than you first think. A single large double glazed skylight is enough light during the day and good ventilation if you match it with an air intake fan. I will never live in a regular house again, it has worked out just that well.
That is so amazing
I just love going off-grid, but not with all the conveniences that most people have in their vans. I'm off grid with just a Jackery and I do fine. Actually I have two Jackerys, one is recharging as I drive and I switch them out. The water at my sink is gravity-fed, which I prefer. My shower is also gravity-fed with a nozzle that creates a spray. I have eveyhing I need in the way of lighting, cooking, bathing, etc. so I don't need a solar set-up at all. Life off-grid suits me just fine so I wouldn't change anything.
Great job on the build
He looks Happy 😁
diggggggggggggg......the stove top "dresser" thing ..nice
Great video. Keep on keeping on from you friend in Philly 🐕🦺
Excellent
Mike is the best!
Absolutely awesome video nice setup
cool! this is so down to earth. kudos 👏🏽
Great ideas, very inspiring ❤
great video
Super video! Hope to see more 😁
This is ideal imho
I guess, it is his home after all. Hope he's ok with the JB GasTax!
Very nice/simple box truck home. Greetings from Jamaica.
NICE BUILD. FUNCTIONAL WITH EVERYTHING HE NEEDS
Great FYI 👍🌹
Nice!
I feel exactly like this guy when it comes to why I’m building a box truck. I just picked up a 2003 GMC savana 3500 with a 16 foot box. I can actually afford rent and afford mortgages and I have great credit but the idea of paying all the interest or getting someone else rich isn’t something I like.
This popped up automatically. I want to live on the road! Hopefully soon in our RV
Although I’d rather sell it and build something more practical like yours. SUBSCRIBED! Best wishes from here on out.
Hi friend just seen your video Box Truck conversion it was very educating .I too am converting my 88 ecolonline 350 in my tiny home for financial reason 😮 I'm working to get out their MOAB. Just seeing new people mew horizons. You got great ideas with the open concept and the furniture that's what I do old furniture is still got life I do refurbish old pieces
Solar is another necessity when off grid I got them to be placed on my Truck ...Water concept love those 5 gln containers always useful.. your Roll up same as mine needs painting alsway good security. You did great job living wherever your horizon leads.
I would like to pick your brain and hear you talk about Solor and its connections. Thank you
Sincerely Patricia
I like cover photo
😆You gotta make those storage boxes & sell em on Etsy 😆😆😆. Safe travels from your SoCal Airstream Sisters.
What a great guy. I love the repurposing. That's what I'm looking to do. What do I have and how can I repurpose it?
As someone who is interested in this lifestyle, I am curious to know what type of work you do remotely and what skills it requires. Thanks
U r cool!!!
Yes that is the point. If you can continue to work and live in the van at the same time. it is the best. I don't like peoples who just live in the van and don't want to work.
Awsome, would love to know more about what you have done, looking at doing the same
Do you have insulation? Air conditioning? Max air fan?
Awesome. Cool dude. Where's the bathroom?
I hope that you will get you a good rifle and a good shotgun. Lever action 45-70 and a Mossburg 500 or 590. You seem like a good guy is why I’m telling you this Never ever live in bear country without a good rifle and never live around Two Thumb predators without a 500 pump.
Sorry to be that dude,,, but at 7.01 you said you can only discharge an AGM to 50%.. that is incorrect. You can discharge an AGM to 0%. Doing this will reduce it's life cycles, which no one disputes. Cheers
Now this is fully functional living in a van.
Nooo leave the lights Astley are. Ilovethat you are an a Irecyler and upcycer. Nowt wrong with the lay out of your home/ van
Very good info. Thank you. What is the length of the box?
he mentioned 14ft box in the beginning
Great video and van!! But no bathroom?
Where to go to bathroom or shower?
. I just got a isuzu npr. When are you actually building the truck
