- Time for another obscure game! I pick up Rage of Dragons and try out its arcade mode. As I should have expected, the nature of this game calls for CHEATING ME OUT OF MY WINS. So I had to take matters into my own hands and... Win. My. Way.

Fun fact about this game, it was developed by a Mexican studio and one of the designers' name is Angel, which was the inspiration for the KOF character, as he was close friends with the people at SNK.
There's more, in the studio (EVOGA) there were also Japanese developers, between them and the Mexican developers (Which i guess they were also present during the development of kof 2001) they had some kind of gamble playing Kof 98 as a salty runback because SNK lost the last time, the director of EVOGA (Angel) vs SNK's Kof 2001 staff's best players, the mexican one won the games and the character ended up being called Angel, if they lost they would have let SNK to design a character for ROTD butr at the same time pay 5000 USD to brezzasoft.
Since the character was already planned to be female and the name is for male people (at least in mexico), they later made it so Angel is pronounced "An-Hell", as in "An hell/she is from hell", the whole point is that it is pronounced the same way as it is pronounced in Spanish and not English.
Long story short is that because of this we have a character named Angel, is mexican and loves tacos.
That's how the character was born but also means there's a character who was never born and someone else was made in their place.
It could be that Angel's design was the character that was originally going to end up in ROTD or another one all together.
Either way it is very likely that Angel would have existed anyway but with a different name and nationality

Played thin in an arcade in texas, enjoyed this game, shame it never got a sequel, I would love to see a continuation of double dragons.
I like how they put extra frames of animation into Johann's grab just so it looks extra smooth when he keeps grabbing you.

I like the effect that the supers have in this game, it was used so frequently for Mugen characters.

One way to cheese Johann (or any other AI enemy) is bait him to do a high frame move like his super > roll toward > hit C+D > do the aerial variation of the 5 hit combo > let your character land on the ground then press jab > hit C+D again which for some reason the AI doesn't block and then repeat.
This is a great game that I play a lot on our local arcade back in the day. Great vid again Justin!

- Mr Jones was based on a real person named "Kareem Abdul-Jabbar" who's in a Bruce Lee Movie called "Game of Death", Bruce Lee and Kareem have some Friendly Student-Teacher relationship btw.
- Abubo was based on a Double Dragon Character named Abobo
- Jimmy, Elias, Lynn and Mr Jones appears as secret characters in a game called "Power Instinct Matrimelee"
- In Pepe and Pupa's ending, Pepe's friend named Pau (the girl on the ending) was based in Paula Monroy who is the wife of Mr. Vo the main designer of the characters from Rage of the Dragons.
That final boss was nerve racking. Good on ya justin for beatin it.

Rage of Dragons looks pretty good. Pepe plays a little like Kim and Kang like KOF's Raiden.

Rage of the Dragons? Next you're gonna tell me that Justin Wong plays Power Instinct Matrimelee.
Imagine playing Rage of Dragons on Level 8, and going up against that final boss, wasting a good amount of time trying to beat him.
Then imagine actually liking that fight. And replaying the game a few times. Pain, but good pain. That final boss music track slaps.
Rotd was such a fun game by Eolith really enjoyed this and P.I.Matrimelee and this and Garou MOTW have some of my favourite sprites and gameplay

@@sgnitzlennahv that's because you probably have played Gill a ton of times and now you can beat him easily. You can beat any end boss if you play them enough.
@@megatron1877 not really, a lot of snk bosses especially, Doesn't matter how many times you played them they're still hard and a pain to beat, You have to cheat by exploiting the hole in the ai gameplay to beat them everytime.
Gill on the other hand you can beat him by playing normally even on hardest difficulty especially if you're good with parrying. To me fighting akuma is harder than gill in sf3.

I beat him straight up also but rather difficult but is achievable.But he can also be one of the easiest bosses of all time just jump kick at him then leg sweep him he falls for this pattern.Thanks for the good video Justin Wong.😊
Please play the snk fighter double dragon. (Not the scrolling beat em up, the one based on the film). I loved that game. Spent alot of my youth on that arcade

JFC, the boss does more chip damage to you with one move than your 9 hit Pepe combo does to him. Go 90s arcade games.

@@zerobeatw2059They're both based on the old black basketball player turned martial artist called Jim Kelly. He was in Enter the Dragon and few awesome blaxo flicks like Black Belt Jones (hence 'Jones' in this game), Black Samurai, and Cleopatra Brown (I think). Famous for his cool fro aswell :)

Sadly we would never see a sequel of this game,funny since im from Argentina and the creators are from Mexico,still,one or should i say,part of the team is from usa i think that's why this game is over and we would never see it again.I think the company is....WAS,called EVOGA.I will play this game on my channel but not with time over,im way too ambitious haha,i played until kof 2001 in level 8 to see wich one is more difficult,and the winner iiiissss,KOF 95.When you finally defeat Saisyu Kusanagi you fight agains't Rugal with 2 forms,first one is hard IF you get caught but he's not moving that much,the second form is the SHIIIT,but when you die against him th game puts you against Saisyu again!!!!!! XD.

As bootleg as X-Men next dimension was that game was fun as hell.

Actually this boss as hard as it is... does have some weakness. if you get to time the jump attack and trigger some chain comboes you can rinse an repeat jump attack before he recovers like falling mid air as he is standing up and redo the pattern, not easy really but as all you need to time it right. other than that he does have a big weakness, as you can see he reacts too fast after you attack him with an animation so fast that seems like a counter but it aint. because of that cassandra can punish him with one of the moves (kinda changes sides after preemptive attack) and because of that she ends up at a safe spot after hitting Johann then you can chain combo somehting fast in there and repeat. Well those are my tricks took my coins to learn it but not so bad :D
If rumors are true and there's going to be a Capcom vs SNK 3, there should be some Rage of the Dragons reps there
