They are without a doubt at a new peak on this tour: their tightness, groove and energy is insanely good. That solo is absolutely incredible here!
Totally agree they are excellent on this tour. Nice username btw 🐎
This song highlights how much weird shit Lars does.. his entire fills catalogue is all simple 4/4 fills, and random hits on the toms like he plays in a damn salsa mariachi band is all over the place.. like from 04:00. You dont have to fill your empty ass drumming with random tom hits dude!
I have loved Metallica always, but Lars suckass drumming annoys me from time to time..
Let me /rant by saying Kirk, wow! Fuckin aced the solo(s). Good times 🤘
@@josephcullen5872 this solo is so good!
You missed them in '85 then. 😊
@@jayeee2756 Yep. But from 91 onwards I have seen them various times and they have always been a good live band. Compared to the last 20-25yrs though this is definitely a return to form
Bro....that fucking bass sound on this is GNARLY👽
the bass is singing
WAH pedal I think
Screaming for help
Cliff is smiling at this one
Cliff Burton Was The Best Bassist For Metallica I’m Sure He Is Very Proud 🥲
Lets just take a moment to appreciate how HARD these guys are working at their age. Thank you!
Don't tell me what to take a moment to do.
@@alanduncan1980 bruh
Can we also appreciate that these guys have been busting their asses for DECADES consistently without fail! They are still relevant which most artists and/bands can't seem to do. 💚 They deserve all the respect they get and more!
@@meganknowles322 They have fewer dates now, but they put all that time into rehearsing and it shows
@@meganknowles322 and it has not been easy at all, they've had plenty of crisis personally and they still manage to thrive
THE BASS sounded AMAZING
Yeah the stage engineer deserves high praise. Perfectly audible and tuned well. And obviously Rob killed it like usual.
I'm amazed the bass sounds at all.
Ikr it sounds like he’s actually using a wah and not a phaser
Flanger and wah.
rob is doing some real justice to cliff's basslines, huge respect
Certainly one of the best Metallica Live versions of The Call Of Ktulu ever !!
for sure
I love this version.
There aren't many..
@@nakedsnake1703 there is two other wonderful versions : Live S&M Symphony , and 2017 's concert in Copenhagen,Denmark
@@yassineghilani3783 17's better
Are you FREAKING KIDDING ME???!!! That was a very impressive performance, to say the least! And James' Ktulu Snakebyte is 🔥🔥🔥
YOU BET
Ktulu is an allegory for satanic forces. They made the deal back in the 80's.
It was one of the best, still miss that wah scream near the end tho 6:51
I still think the best performance lf this song is at the lyceum theatre
It's nice and all but Kirk's got his Peter Green / Gary Moore Les Paul...
I was there. I loved it. James, kirk, rob and lars you all played so well.
Can't agree more! It was an awesome show!
Wasnt always true,,, but Lars is now the weakest link
@@darkkrenaissance42
Hasn’t it allways been like that !!?
@@darkkrenaissance42 100% of lars haters cant even hold a drums stick right...
@@ryanlee5771 garage or bed room drummer for sure 😂
This was the best live The Call of Ktulu I've ever heard.
dafuq are you talking kirk is not even playing the intro cause he can't play it flawlessly anymore.
@@KurtKommerzIt's still probably the best performance of Ktulu.
Turin, Italy tops this.
@@KurtKommerzKirk never plays the intro! It's all James
in my humble opinion, these bass screams are the best thing happened to bass guitar since bass guitar was invented. what a sound
I don't think Rob gets enough credit for how good a bass player he is. He was perfect in this song.
Suicidal Tendencies for life
Totally agree.
Totally disagree. The foot could have been looser
@@quotia5457 At least they can play Orion and Anesthesia Pulling Teeth because Rob can play those songs and not Jason.
When Hell Freezes Over (The Call Of Ktulu)
🤘amazing song 👍 great performance🤘
I get that "Ktulu" is a lot more exotic and literary, and Lovecraft is supposed to be cool among metalheads and horror fans, but I actually prefer the name "When Hell Freezes Over."
@@HeathenDance where is the name from?
@@agamersdiary1622 it was the original title of the song. They eventually decided to not be like the other bands and associate with hell and demons
@@agamersdiary1622 The Call of Ktulu is originally a Novella written by a famous horror writer, HP Lovecraft
Never thought I’d say this but Lars’ drumming is on point. Really well done here.
Always is. Don’t get caught up in the Haters frame of mind.
@@MegaBadseed
Lars has had his moments over the years, but I don’t look at it as persistently bad or good, rather on and off periods coinciding with album releases and tours. But like any good drummer Lars knows how to keep things simple while keeping time*. (Excluding the funny misses haters constantly laud on about)
@@topsecret1837 Lars is the best
@@topsecret1837yeah in the master of puppets performance in early december i noticed a couple slip-ups on lars' part but james also stopped singing at one point so i can't complain
They fix it in post bro. Lars is still the man though.
Absolutely love that theyre playing these instrumental songs, some of my favorite Metallica tracks 🤘
They need to get to live is to die in there
@@richardgrossguth8069 OH YES!
@@richardgrossguth8069 was just going to say the same thing. It's close but I think that's my favourite one. Ktulu is the darkest, Orion the most ethereal and To Live Is To Die is the most melancholic and pensive. Mood.
It's so good to have the bass pumping so loud. And everything else is awesome too. Whoever did this mix should be doing their studio albums. It sounds 10x better than the actual studio mixes.
Metallica always sounds better on stage, surprisingly
Studio Metallica, aside from the black album sounds dry, the bass is there but can't hardly distinguish it from the guitars
@@Max_94 The new album has a louder bass and is almost as good as the black album mix imo. Just Lars's snare is too loud, but old habits die hard I guess.
@@TomatosRaafatos I'd also say his hi-hat is too loud, although I have found it seems to change deonding what you listen on earbuds/headphones vs car with a sub.
I'm not a so called Fan. But sometimes i like them. The Sound of their 90's albums is'nt my Sound.
This sounds good and they seem as they are a real friends-band!
Man that intro is wicked I LOVE it! And look at Rob really killing it on bass with that distortion and the wah
Yup, intro is fucking amazing. Shivers on my whole body can confirm that.
Kirk knocked that solo out of the park. I love the way he ended it.
People tend to say thar he's not worthy of "Greeny". I think this alone proves that he is! That solo was probably his best improv in years, holy cheese on a stick
@@kevah94 he is absolutely not worthy of Greenie.
@@kevah94 pretty sure he completely ruined the fade to black solo on that thing that weekend.
@@Jimboishere11 only if someone understood the guitar’s worth and was willing to pay for it… seesh. Nobody did that so I guess it rightly belongs with someone who knows it’s worth
@@knightrider387 name some other guitarist that could afford to drop 1 million on a guitar? Let’s get real..
Damn they’re sounding tight. I would’ve been retired on a beach 20 years ago if I was them, but here they are still playing stadiums just doing what they love
“We never stop, we never quit, cause we’re Metallica!”
@@xxEzraBxxx damn straight brother
May God keep these boys healthy on tour and beyond. Forever grateful for this band 🤘🏽✝️
Amen to that!! 🙏
Also forever grateful to this band! If this band wouldn't exist I would listen some bad rap music or something.
@@altaimetin8686slipnot?
@@altaimetin8686i listen to both lol
After 2 decades Rob Trujillo proves that they made the right choice, he is the MVP of this tour and the reason 72 Seasons is in my opinion their best album since Black Album
This is pure talent no doubt greatest band of all time 🤘🏻
🤘🤘
It's strongly looking that way at this point! This was absolutely amazing!!
This is immediately my favorite performance of this song. Absolutely incredible bass sound, guitar solos, everything is so tight. Wish I could have experienced this live with Cliff, but the boys did him great justice with this one \m/
People give Lars a lot of stick, but that ending at 9:08 is fucking triumphant!! Probably the best live version of this song I've seen.
yeah usually I think lars doesn't do super well tbh but this was a pretty good performance I'll say
@@lotsapasta0858 I think the only thing that could've made it better is if he swapped that china out for a ride. These recordings sound crisp.
agree, weird intro tho
90% of his critics couldn't do what he does, let alone for the best part of 4 decades.
@@jaegergames7042 Also, it is not what he does, but what he created. I just find his drumkit sounding on the thin side, some more powerful sound would be better. like in the 90s.
Best perfomance of Ktulu since S&M 1999, damn it! I hope they come to Brazil and keep soundin fking great like that
I love that they've turned the bass right up on this.
Cliff's bass was always the best part of Ktulu. You don't hear the bass until you've listened to it a hundred times
I’ll always remember me and my mate playing this (the best we could lol). Every time my Dad walked in, he’d say, “play Call of Katanga”. And to this day, that is what the song is called, in my mind 😄
Great memory
I love when they let Robert to shine.
9:31 Beautiful harmony
Huge performance. Amazing sound, very tight playing, they wrote this as 20 year olds. These guys are legends.
Damn Robert Trujillo is making that bass scream like crazy! This is one of the best bass heard live version of the song besides the S&M version which is also great.
This is the best performance Ive ever seen or heard from any band. THANK YOU METALLICA 🇺🇸🫡
This song on James' new Cthulhu-guitar: the epitome of perfection.
This is so freaking awesome that they added this song to the setlist again 💯🇩🇰🙏🔥
They also added Orion too.

you get your money's worth with this juggernaut of a band. they deliver entertainment at the highest level.
Incredible. What a band.
Damn, all those years have passed, and this piece, with each performance, continues to hit hard, or even harder than previous one. Pure genius, and energy expressed by the guys in this performance. Thank you Metallica.

What an honor to Cliff. . Wow. Full LP version LIVE in 2023.
Imagine setting up and breaking down this set and hauling it all plus instruments to the next town or country! Bravo to the unsung heroes. And Metallica, legends. They are a “don’t miss” band!
That intro grabs you. Sounding and playing awesome.
Ride the Lightning ☝🏼 imo
Hard to believe i see these guys 5 or 6 times from 88 to 2000 and they're still touring nonstop playing 3 hour concerts. i seen a show in the early 90s where they ran out of their own songs to play and just jammed for a hour to play one of their first 3 hour sets and now they're rocking so many albums they could play all day on their own music
Cuz their the fukin goat's bro I mean ya like u said at their age and doing their thing fuk ya🤟🤟🤟🤟
In the 90's they already released 5 albums, thats over 40 songs lol. No way they ran out of material
Bands just can't go out and play all their songs they pick a set line up to play every night then the sound mixing guys and pyrotechnics set up a "show" so everything sounds and looks good and in time. Metallica preforms a 3 hour set now back then they only played an hour and a half to 2 hour set after that they didn't have the light and sound guys in sink with them they all had to wing it so they would just jam
All 4 of them just keep playing as good as they did many years ago. So good.
Being a guitar player the coolest thing about this is seeing a very expensive guitar with such an history and is being played instead of being stored on a museum or something like that
Robert Trujillo is one of a kind! Amazing musician. He brings Metallica to another level, it took years for some to notice though :)
Cliff, Jason & Robert. Hell, they're ALL family to me. AMEN!🤘
@@NObucketLISTAll did amazing work while in the band. No hate on anyone 🫡

Can you imagine this at the nfl halftime show. My god!
if metallica was at a halftime show, they would play the Sandman Song, Nothing else matters, and Master of puppets. They might play a song off 72 seasons as well

0:38 - 1:39 amazing opening !
The sound of Ktulu howling in the beginning is haunting
This is the best I've ever heard this lineup sound!!! Wooooaaah
This live sounds awesome love this song! Metallica for life🤟🥁🎸🎤🎛🎚🎙
Holy hell!!! This is impeccable!! Im so so baffled by the Bassist here i thought cliff could never be replaced maybe i was wrong. They are such phenomenal musicians and they are rhythmically so tight. Im at a loss for words
The one sound at the beginning is so awesome... it really fits to the K´tulu stories ... I'm looking forward to see Metallica live again on that tour ... Metal up your Ass
Love the instrumentals awesome
Unreal Live Version, they sound fantastic 👏
9:09 - 9:40. So fucking EPIC !!!! including that new guitar harmonies a the end!!!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO NOTICED IT ASWELL
Love that riff. Can play it on any instrument. You know the riff I am talking about.
9:31 That added harmony is so beautifull
It's criminal how good it is
I know right
Best tour the guys have given in a LONG time. This is crazy, I don't know what lit a fire under their asses but all of us are HERE for it.
Unbelievably brilliant version, the 3 OG's are fantastically tight, Kirks best solo in years, and Robs bass is absolutely INSANE!!! Big shout to James' Kthulu guitar as well, that is a fucking AXE!
I keep hearing the Symphony in the background in my head every time this song hits.
Very powerful song green & purple ....
I feel like I hear Rob's bass so much more on this tour. The mix is great.
On the 28th, For Whom the Bell tolls. Man, that was Outstanding from Rob
Holy shit that bass sound is mighty.
I was there. It was very stressful to come there, i almost had a breakdown. :D
I needed almost 11 hours for a 5~6 hours drive. Just entered and Tallica came on stage. Too bad i missed the 2 bands before.
Without a doubt, a force for inspiration.
Best performance of that song
OMG James' guitar is custom for this song! So cool! Or maybe it's for "The Thing That Should Not Be"??
Unbelievable these guys are still rocking live audiences so hard after so many years... legendary!
Could be both. Both songs are basically about Cthulhu.
It was fantastic. I was there, it felt amazing.
the bass gave me goosebumps...oh my god..
Fucking brilliant. Goosebumps all over
Very nice performance! They are incredibly on fire!
I would love if they play To Live is To Die once in this tour.
my favorite song from all of their works. Robert makes the song better than it ever was. Legends.
god fucking damnit, what a fantastic performance!!!!
The ktulu guitar🔥🔥🔥
This was such a ballsy song to have on their second EP. Phenomenal songwriting.
The fact that James' guitar ACTUALLY has Ktulu on makes it even more epic 🤘🏼🎸🤘🏼
Funny how when I bought this CD being a young teenager I didn´t appreciate this song at all. Now I think is one of the most underrated songs from them and just a masterpiece, specially when performed like this.
I was there and it was one of the best moments of my life
Was there with my dad. We came with the plane from Austria💪 So a nice show! Thank you🔥🤟See you in Munich and Helsinki!
Glad you had so much fun my friend! I was also there with my dad. He's been a Metallica fan since Ride the Lightning and I grew up with Metallica as well. Best weekend of my life. Do you already have tickets for Munich? I want to get some too
I would never go on a plane lol, im too scared
U must be rich ,u can afford to see Metallica in concert that many times ,the price of tickets ,ud have 2 be
@@donkeyballs3307 Metallica concerts are quite reasonably priced compared to the "popular artists" the youth listen to.
@@donkeyballs3307 I'm certainly not rich. I paid around 150 bucks for both concerts together. That's indeed a lot of money but I'd rather invest it in an unforgettable experience than in something physical like a new phone. If I take care of my expenses I can afford to pay that much once a year.
Of course I understand that not everyone can afford that (although I really wish that everyone could) and not everyone is willing to pay that much money.
I always say this Metallica song is the best, then I listen to another one and it seems to be the best, then I listen to another one that sounds like the best... it's crazy, vibessssss!!!!
Metallica has become the Rolling Stones of metal with their longevity.
FANTASTIC INTROS❤
One of my all time favorites from them. What a phenomenal performance. Everyone did fantastic.
I need an hour long loop of this amazing intro.
This track. A majesty, forever. An envocation and an exorcism from beginning to end.
The intro is amazing! When that siren hits you really get the feeling that something (Ktulu) is coming.
