In piston powered steam engines the reverser, along with allowing reverse operation sets the % of cutoff. You have 0% cutoff at full forward/reverse and 100% cutoff in the middle(neutral). At 0% cut off your applying 100% steam pressure to the piston for the full stroke(well till the valve closes anyway, locos would often have some cut off built in as the baseline). At 50% cutoff the inlet valve only opens 50% of the piston stroke, allowing the steam to expand for 1/2 the stroke doing more work for less steam, and there is 1/2 the steam density to exhaust to atmosphere on the other end. In short 0% cut off is 100% power, and its speed limited by how fast it can exhaust the steam. At 50% cut off, your at approximately 50% power, with 1/2 the steam to exhaust and thus approximately 2X the speed, 75% cutoff > 25% power > 1/4 the exhaust > 4X the speed This is a gross approximation, for the sake of conveying the general concept. Lets add some more complex context. When in cutoff, depending on the valve gear, the piston can hold pressure on both sides of the piston to act as a spring. A spring you say?, well yes, we all know how a piston and crank turns linear motion into rotation, and the piston has to come to a complete stop before it can reverse direction, In short, if you have the right amount of left over steam cushioning the piston before fresh steam admission/TDC, there is a mechanical efficiency gain.
Very cool! The very first thing that hit me was how clean and crisp the models/graphics are. The next thing was the Simplified Control (which I love). And then just the mechanics of moving the train and handling jobs. Very promising and will be on my Wishlist shortly :P
Nice to see your take on this great game 06:30 You control FOV with mousewheel in first person. Middle mouse click will cycle between the standard and alternate FOV you set in the settings 43:40 Also, in the lower left on the train HUD cars/locos with handbrakes on will show purple and disconnected anglecocks will have a little yellow warning triangle
Middle mouse click...def. that one button I DIDNT press. Yeah, the HUD has a lot of good detail in general, and with the scale in this video it was pretty bad to get into...but Tomorrows video has a full size HUD that we can actually see things in :D
The "gamey" move you did with the tank car is something railroads actually did called a flying Switch move. Imagine it is against safety rules today though - probably very dangerous!
Indeed. This game is already doing a lot right, and the core of the game is extremely solid. One can always add more 'shiny' things down the road, and the devs seem to understand that :D
Interesting game for sure. In my opinion the 29 euro for this game is a lot if I consider what the game gives me. It is some weird hybrid of derail valley, transport fever, transport tycoon and railway empire, but it feels empty, world is not alive etc.
It certainly depends what you are looking for... I wouldn't call it a hybrid at all, it's more a thing that brought real table top model trains to live, that allows automation and manual operations alike, and that has real switching. In addition you can ever expand your rail empire. DV does a good job of 1st person train controls, but it doesn't really let you do more than 1 thing at a time. Transport fever is a logistics simulator, I don't think it's even in the same country at Railroader. Railway empire is a little like transport fever, with other aspects. Railroader is certainly not everyone's cup of tea...I think $20 would be very appropriate. $30 is acceptable, but I would have priced it lower.
Yeah...this one combines part of RRO and DV in a way that makes sense, and is very accessible to the user...I have yet to run into any real frustration, and the real career advancement options add a whole other level.

This stuff is fascinating! Thanks for sharing!

That pretty much sums up the first 5 mins of playing. It's has all the bells and whistles that are important, and those come with adjusters!
This looks good, especially for early access. Clean UI really appeals to me. I'll be buying this.
Very nice video, I would enjoy more of it. And it would fit the "long and scerene" tone of this channel.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Definitely something I'll check out
Yea I'd like to see some more of this! 😉
Come back tomorrow please :D
Thanks for showcasing this game looking forward to the release

@@bballjo The UI scale fix was a big help!

Yay! I did something semi reasonable, even tho I messed it up badly
This looks like a game with a great amount of potential! The draw distance on the scenery is small, but the detail is actually really pretty.

Railroader changed release date to 7th December instead of 15th
Color everyone excited and partying in their PJs!

This is what RRO wishes it was ... RRO still a 35 dollar tech demo ...

First!
Excellent! Here are your bballjo points :)
technically bballjo is always first since he is posting the video, lol XD
