I love this rendition of The Railway Series, I like how the characters are all completely different types to their storybook representations. TTTE and TRS were my childhood and were the starting point for my love of trains and railways, like a lot of people I think. I honestly cannot wait for the next instalment of The North Western.
Great, authentic adaptation! Some very interesting, fitting changes here, and I especially love the slightly different basis’s for the characters. Can’t wait to see where this series goes! :D
Excellent work Tom! Of all the adaptations of the books I’ve seen, this one really feels incredibly grounded yet unwaveringly faithful to source material. Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks! The aim is to adapt from the books as source while sprinkling in my own stories here and there. Some stories are either difficult or impossible to translate so some might well be omitted yet.
That's a shame, but I understand why. Maybe you could imply that they still happened, like Percy saying "That was almost as exciting as the time I raced Harold." Just a suggestion.
@@DLR1997 You know, I experience something similar to Thomas' whole "C-thing." Much better and more real life than the 80s TV series; I like the explanation for Henry stopping in the tunnel. Every time I pass through Crewe on the way to / from Nantwich or walk through the tunnels on the Monsal Trail I think of the story of Henry:-)
I like this pilot episode and I can't argue with the choices to have Thomas, Edward, Henry and Gordon. I really like Thomas as an E4, which have always been very visually appealing engines in my opinion. I may have said this before, but Gordon as an LNER Raven A2 Class works for him too as I always thought those Pacifics were more akin to Gordon's TVS look than a Gresley A1. Also, Henry stopping in the tunnel because of low steam pressure isn't entirely out of the possibilities compared to Awdry's original story. Henry also being a Henry Fowler design is also something very natural fitting, I'm surprised no one has seemed to have done it before.
Ok starts of brand new series's go I think you hit it out of the park. to be honest I wasn't really happy with Thomas being changed to an E4 but I must admit his personality is really good here. and the entire story felt familiar yet brand new. you really have done something great here and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
I love your take on the North Westerns early years. Some of my favorite bits are Thomas cross about being called little. One question though, is there a particular reason you changed Thomas and Gordons basis?
I enjoy how you made the story make More sense I mean an engine hiding in A tunnel and not coming out again… the controller would have to update the timetable and using Henry’s sickness to stall him in the tunnel. It’s wonderful!😃😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.
after you had gordon on the dark railway i was hoping someone would do a series on sodor in your universe. cant wait to see where you go with it and what other changes you make
I am quite looking forward to this. I've been writing my own Thomas fan stories for a while so it will be interesting to see another person start up their universe. and it will make a good break from the dark railway series. I'm also wondering how the story will be changed from the railway series and the television series.
Great video! I LOVE the new basis for these stories, especially Thomas and Edward's. I will say Henry does have a bloody thick boiler, but that isn't much of a complaint as it is a little detail.
Well yeah but there designs though are different 1. Thomas is not an e2 2. Edward is a different 4-4-0 3. Henry isn't a pacific hybrid when he was built before his rebuild at crew 4. Gordon is a different LNER Pacific that being a raven A2 instead of being an LNER A1 (which would be later upgraded into the A3 class).
Whenever we reach the stage where Henry has his accident and is rebuilt, what replacement model will Henry be as im guessing it remains an LMS model since he presently uses an old patriot model.
I just can’t except Edward being a lswr engine but I can understand the others but out of all the engines I think Edward should be the only engine left the same because he did start the whole thing
A fun interpretation, though I personally prefer the reverend's canon for most things. Thomas with trailing wheels, though, really? It just feels wrong.
Actually, yeah, that would make more sense, because I actually thought Henry was going to be an unrebuilt Royal Scott or patriot but and L&YR class 8 yeah, that makes more sense now.
@@lukethewesternengine229 he is an experimental 4-6-0 designed by Fowler, represented by a patriot here due to the time period. All explained in the episode dont worry!
@@DDJP alright, I can’t wait to see what you have install in this new series. But I do like the idea of making Henry a poorly built LMS design instead of a flawed Gresley design because it’s less confusing than you know Henry being this flawed, Gresley design and then being rebuilt into a black five, you could see how that just sounds confusing and in turn makes no sense.
i'm sorry, but i got to ask, is this like a your version take on the NWR book series? cause if it is i agree and like how it looks so far Because if this was to follow the actual BOOK and series, all the locos are wrong, VERY WRONG. just a dumb nickpick of mine. but i am actual happy to see a different head canon of the beloved series. just my only problem with it, why you got to make my fav LMS loco class, the patriots or baby scots (I think) the "failing" engine.
I really love the alternative basis' for the engines, suits them tbh
I am really digging the alternate bases for the characters.

Edward as a T3? Excellent!
this is actually genius, you made Henry stop at the tunnel for his steaming troubles instead of a dumb rain fear to make his story more believable
6:50 lol what a comeback, i can tell im gonna really enjoy this adaptation
I love the T3! Nice to see it portrayed as Edward
Life Edward Was a K2 Class.
I like this balance of fictional storytelling and real life basis history, switching between past and present tense.
Edward is a t3, one of this class has recently been restored, then given the nick name “the soul survivor”
i was originally skeptical ..but after watching this im very impressed :) ..looking foward to next episodes

Where did you get the models? 1:55 2:31 3:07 3:43

Thomas as an E4 👍
I was surprised when I found out that TAF existed in your universe, but it was a welcome one noentheless and this new project of yours is amazing!

What are the pre grouping engines of sodor? Also do you have plans to elaborate on how they “Went Missing”
Fantastic video as always. What software (train game) do you use? And the models where do you get them from? If you don't mind me asking
Thomas being an e4 would be nice. Its not like its gonna make him the youngest or anything
Im wondering if the engines that went missing were the London Northwestern lot that was shipped back as revenge.
I hoping having some of the cast have accurate basis
What happened to the pre nwr engines?

In my AU
Thomas is an E4 like in Your AU
Edward is a T9
Henry is an H2 "later Black 5"
And Gordon is A1 No: 4471 Sir Frederick Banbury
You Meant a Royal Scott Class.
I'm still wondering what James and Percy would look like
I wonder what class of engine Henry is, and what engine will he be rebuilt into?
A Royal Scott Class And his rebuilt F8 Jubilee Class or Black 5.
E4 for thomas I quite like that, but the e4 is a little old for thomas? Don't you think?
@craigdallingproductions4430 no they are not
Is it me or does Gordon sound like DR1202
Yea more
