Did you forget there is now multiple bootleg Tik Toks now? We have UA-cam Shorts, we have Instagram Reels, we have Snapchat Spotlights 😭 nothing is stopping artists and musicians from going viral anymore.

Yeah tbh that’s why I towards the end of the video I mentioned that I guess the same could be said about a lot of other apps. It’s all created such an issue in our society, and changed the trajectory of literally everything
Tik tok getting banned might save music and give us 3 to 4 minute songs again! I feel like since Tiktok came along every new artists and some seasoned artists have been conforming to making "tiktok bops"
Hear me out, this whole video reminded me why I think Agora Hills by Doja Cat was one of the best mainstream songs released last year. A beautifully done mix of r&b and rap, with a stunning intro sample, theatrical interludes between verses, and an overall full sound. Even being four minutes and a half long, it ended up doing well on the charts and TikTok, which goes to show that artists don’t have to sacrifice the quality of a song just for a good hook. The entirety of Agora Hills is just as good as the “Kissin and hope they caught us” snippet that did its rounds on TikTok.

I'm on the fence with this one. I think tiktok has done a great job of popularizing really dumb or poor quality songs and artists. However, it's also given a second chance (for younger audiences) to songs like "Where Love Grows," "Running up that Hill" (thanks to Stranger Things also obvi), "End of Beginning," and I'm sure countless others. I also think that there are some quality smaller/indie artists who have been able to find an audience and grow because of things like tiktok. There's definitely some artists who won't be hit that hard by the ban but other ones will and i think those are the ones who probably make better music anyways :( You really touched on how it's a horrible app for society but at the same time there have been benefits and unfortunately, short form content as a means of marketing has pushed artists of different kinds and business owners into a corner - making it harder for them to succeed.
I agree with this, I think it is nuanced in a lot of ways, because it’s put more power into the hand of indie artists establishing independence and actually finding success in it. TikTok has made that more accessible which I don’t believe is a bad thing at all. I just think it’s really harmed the quality of music overall, because everybody’s chasing a trend or a viral hit versus just letting the music speak for itself.
Iniko is a perfect example of this. Someone who has been working for years on their music but who is so far from mainstream music that they probably never would have been known about without Tiktok. I also listen an amazing folk artist by the name of Enny Owl who had never been on tiktok until more recently and had less than twenty listeners for most of her songs even after years on years of putting so much quality work and money into them. She finally joined tiktok and now suddenly jumped to 10k. She's definitely someone who would have only been found in thirty years if at all. That said, one of Iniko's biggest viral moments was also from tiktok and it was having a more viral artist from tiktok steal their viral song and claim ownership to it leading to a year long dispute over ownership of their music only for tiktok ban them for "stealing" their own songs. So yeah, the platform is the definition of a double-edged sword.
I’m kinda glad there doing this because I feel like the reason why music videos aren’t being watched anymore and fell off is due to people making music and expecting it to blow up fast on TikTok since it’s the fastest way
I think this is will be a good thing. Too many aritst have relied on TikTok to carry their music, and I think it's had a bad effect on the music industry. At this point, I think it’s gonna weed out a lot ofuntalented artists to be honest. Although, it did still put a lot of new artists like Tyla for example, so that's also true.
I think it's good all around. Social media has made people in general more annoying, or at least their annoying tendencies more visible. TikTok just took that to an exponential level.

Yes and no. I think tiktok can be useful for those musicians who aren’t Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, etc level famous but at the same time I feel tiktok…I don’t wanna say overhype (but that’s the only word I can think of) certain artist. Social Media as a whole hinders who is an artist and who isn’t. A song going viral on tiktok but let that same artist release another song, will it get the same hype?
As an artist I love having an intro, outro and powerful bridge. My recent song I released had all of that and I feel like it takes listener on a journey. I appreciate you talking about this
I'm a metalhead who's severely disconnected from pop music. I don't even know how I found your channel or most of the stuff you're talking about but you do make some good stuff. Kudos to you!
13:05 Another song I'd like to add on to this is Have Mercy - Chlöe. I loved almost everything about it. It's clear that Chlöe put her all in the ENTIRE song, and not just the 15 second highlight. She added the harmonies, she added the hidden beats within the song, she changed up the music arrangements of Have Mercy multiple times and they're all bops. There's alot you can love about Have Mercy 💯.
im actually so excited for whatevers on the radio not being dictated by whatever 20 seconds of a song went viral on tiktok... like it makes me so sad that just around 20 seconds will have effort put into it, and it almost feels like im being catfished when i hear the rest. and then with artists that DO try, tiktok will still manage to ruin it for them and only replay one part (STEVE LACY... when i tell you i wouldve stopped in the middle of the performance and left if that happened to me!)
i’m so thankful to finally have received an album that did not in the slightest cater to tiktok trends (although becoming trends unintentionally)… that album being eternal sunshine ☀️
I’m an underground artist, and people will literally tell me I don’t “need to be doing all that” when it comes to writing a full song ?? Im like yes I want an intro, yes I want a bridge or a break down. I don’t want to make a song thats just verse chorus verse chorus and then it ends lol Songs use to take us on a journey I’m not trying to lose than in my art just for it to be more “viral”
13:14 for me also „Cupid“ and „Super Shy“ broke the Curse, those songs are good from start to the end, they’re not longer than 3mins, but those songs are bops (even though I kinda have enough of those two now) :))
K-pop songs have catchy verses too so that’s why you weren’t disappointed, but the effects of TikTok on kpop specifically within the music industry has definitely been negative imo
@@CamrynSuzanne I’d say it’s a lot of the similar overall trends to the music industry where songs get dumbed down, shortened and repetitive instead of good song structure. And same for choreos, which is so important to kpop, but now they’re made easier and chase viral trends. The #1 problem though is that kpop lost most of it’s uniqueness as a genre and the kpop companies just follow what’s popular in western music nowadays
That part about ppl not knowing these songs except for 15-30 seconds is FACTS! I’m a DJ, and sometimes I’ll play these songs and once the part everyone saw on TikTok is done, ppl look lost like what song is this lol. It’s crazy.
You forgot to mention when artists were trying a new gimmick by making a video saying they needed our help to make a tik tok viral song 😂 I think I remember Halsey or pink being one of the first ones to o do it I can’t remember
pink is way older than halsey and doesn't do any tiktok stuff. she's already well established and still sells out big venues in europe and australia. people in the US always act like someone is a nobody if they're not super popular in the US anymore
Hmmm, thanks for keeping up to date. I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a TikTok music artist. I’m not on the app so I just get second hand info about it.
I don’t understand why some people try to defend TikTok with their life like the app isn’t even good anymore and most people will just flock to another app
I was on TikTok when I got this notification!! The food you promoted in the beginning looks really good...I should try it. I'm just very iffy about this ban. 😅
Ugh, how I’ve missed bridges. However, Annika Rose and Bonnie McKee are two users who promote their songs via TikTok, and still make full-fledged songs.
I never caught on to TikTok, but I understand it will be a loss for content creators. I am sure Google will be happy, as they rushed UA-cam Shorts to compete against TikTok. Like for everything, content creators will adapt, like the loss of MySpace.
The TikTok ban is only good for artists who are already established. TikTok gave many indie artists the chance to be seen & heard without being pushed by a label. If the ban goes into effect, industry plants & artists who have sold themselves to a label will continue to be more dominant. I love that Tiktok propelled the discovery of new artists, specifically indie. Also, because of the ban, labels will continue to have the upperhand. TikTok caused them to lose their grip a bit. So many artists are killing it alone because of TikTok.
I think if TikTok gets banned people will just move to instagram or something. But I still do pray that TikTok gets banned tbh. Despite the pros I think the cons of TikTok on music are wayyyyy worse.
While we’re at it, let’s ban Spotify, Apple, and Tidal. Let’s bring back real marketing campaigns for artists/albums. Let’s bring back real artists and talent. Let’s bring back PURE ALBUM SALES.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK 🗣🗣🗣🗣!!! If those music streaming platforms ever get banned it will do so much better for the music industry. If it does ever get banned I honestly can’t wait to go to stores and see more people getting cassette tapes or some CDS ❤Let’s just hope music streaming platforms do get banned.
@@CamrynSuzanne yes! especially when fandoms hold "streaming parties" and mass stream together, so it could just be the same people listening to the same song over and over instead of showing the actual popularity of the song. that's why so many kpop songs top the charts even though they're not that mainstream in the US
The effect tiktok has had on music and what tops the charts has been wild. A lot of one hit wonders and songs that are just meant to be trendy while having no real substance for example the ABCDEF U song. I think the banning of tiktok is dumb (like an app is REALLY americas main issue atm🙄) but I think it might make music better or at least reduce the amount of trendy and catchy songs that go viral on tiktok and then you never hear from the artist again.
The ban is good for many reasons, but I especially love that it forces the music industry to take more responsibility for promoting artists and stop relying on industry plants and short-lived artists whose music isn’t up to par. It will have the unfortunate side effect of taking away obscure artists’ platform for spreading their work, but the good news is, TikTok isn’t the only platform in the world. I look forward to better quality music.
Yes, I think labels will have to be more involved, especially developing real marketing plans and strategies as well as investing in Real and unique talent. Like you said though yes it will affect some of those smaller, but there are other platforms. So the Internet is going away I think we’ve made strides.
Off topic but can we get a video of the impact of reality TV from the 90s to today like The Real World, Ex on The Beach, Baddies/Bad Girls Club, Love & Hip Hop, etc. as well as a deep dive into the shows.
@@CamrynSuzanne I feel you would provide interesting commentary on it. Another user Naomi Cannibal provided great insight into Bad Girls Club and Baddies specifically
It always gives me a little bit of second hand embarrassment when you can tell that someone’s trying to make a trend out of their song from what they see people doing with other songs. Especially when the only people who do the trend are doing it as an ad. Good luck to them if the trends do catch on though, it’s not easy to put your work out there
Idk I think many talented artists who love music feel distraught by this because tiktok gives them a chance. Its up to us who blows up. But I think theyll just move to reels idk
That’s the main reason I think it could be detrimental, for those artists who have grown bc of the platform and otherwise wouldn’t have had that chance
@@CamrynSuzanne true! but im surprised you didnt mention reels in your analysis. I mean, do you think the industry will go back to how it was? bc i think the short form thing is just gonna manifest again in different forms!
That was my main reason why I never fully got into TikTok it’s because I knew it would be addicting and I need to increase my productivity levels and I would’ve just made things 100 times worse
Ngl one of the indicators of music stopping being promoted properly for me is how we don’t really have “song of the summer” anymore. This may sound silly but before TikTok every year we always had one or even couple of hits which highlighted the summer or maybe a whole year for us, now that’s completely gone. Another thing is music videos. Artists put so much effort into them yet they don’t get as many views as they might’ve had if these songs were released in early-mid 2010s. I really wish for MVs era to be back😩
As an artist, I'm looking forward to more thoughtful music and artists who spent time perfecting their craft getting more attention. I liked the just-for-fun music when it first started coming out but it's so tiring now.
I have discovered some really great smaller artists via tiktok so I'm very happy about that. Howeverrr Tiktok has transformed the music industry notably and in my opinion, mostly negatively. I miss bridges in songs! (I stopped using tiktok in december and I am in such a better mental state highly recommend)
I do love the hope that songs can be longer again and more thought out, and full length albums eras BUT I also feel like independent artists and small artists trying to grow a fan base so they can get signed are going to suffer greatly. And music was the only art form that has a lower cost for barriers of entry. Most actors are nepo babies these days, it does suck for the people without connections to be able to break into the market, so we will see.
Yep, that’s the sad part of what could happen and that’s where i feel like it’s negative for it to be banned. As a creator, ik it is so hard to build momentum and get your foot in the door. It’s 50x harder for musicians
I blame TikTok for a lot in the world. Every time I see someone I’ve never heard of blow up the charts I think, “who has the CCP forced on us this week?” Or maybe I’m just old and bitter because I’m 40 and Amy Shark took 15 years to get noticed.
Everytime a song gets overplayed on tiktok best believe it’s getting skipped on my playlist. I literally loved sure thing by Miguel now I don’t find myself willingly listening to it idk if that’s just me tho 😭
Tiktok getting banned means labels will have to invest more in artist development since they can't just rely on a viral trend propping up their artists and songs anymore. Tiktok isn't all bad, hell there's artists that I absolutely love that blew up from it and I've discovered but its also made the industry from the label heads, A&R, artists on down very lazy and overly reliant on the app to get a quick hit/viral moment and nothing else. Its extended careers that, IMO, are way past expiry date and has let mediocre/nonexistent talents thrive.
I know it's so annoying when most of the music nowadays is made for trends and just going viral based on a 15-30 second clip, but that's it for the artist. It's whether marketable for the record labels nor for the artist themselves. The artist can't fully be creative with their idea and has to just cater to what's currently popular, in addition of trying to leave upto everybody's expectations so that they can stay relevant to the general public. Plus, the record label can't profit off them because, let's be honest, most of the time, these huge viral moments aren't sustainable, hence not profitable. It's a lose-lose situation if you ask me

Agreed 👀👀 chloe did her big one with that song forreal. And I’ve heard have mercy in the club and it went crazy
im actually so excited for whatevers on the radio not being dictated by whatever 20 seconds of a song went viral on tiktok... like it makes me so sad that just around 20 seconds will have effort put into it, and it almost feels like im being catfished when i hear the rest. and then with artists that DO try, tiktok will still manage to ruin it for them and only replay one part (STEVE LACY... when i tell you i wouldve stopped in the middle of the performance and left if that happened to me!)
Your Increase in views, likes and subscribers is WELL deserved. I love the content you create ❤
100!
Thank you so much!
i’m so thankful to finally have received an album that did not in the slightest cater to tiktok trends (although becoming trends unintentionally)… that album being eternal sunshine ☀️
Love the album!! I just wish a few of the songs were a little longer 😭
Pls don’t stop!! We miss that😭
Whoever said that obviously has no actual passion for music like excuse me?? Don’t need to be doing all that?? Absolute brain rot take
EXACTLY! KEEP GOING !!
Ooooo i’ll have to listen to those songs
Im curious, im not super into kpop. How has tik tok impacted kpop specifically (the negative aspects)?
@@CamrynSuzanne I’d say it’s a lot of the similar overall trends to the music industry where songs get dumbed down, shortened and repetitive instead of good song structure. And same for choreos, which is so important to kpop, but now they’re made easier and chase viral trends. The #1 problem though is that kpop lost most of it’s uniqueness as a genre and the kpop companies just follow what’s popular in western music nowadays
LMFAO not another Jlo drag!!!
😂😂😂
OMG this is literally a thought i had in the shower?!?! literally gasped when i saw it on my feed
Great minds think alike 🤭
That part about ppl not knowing these songs except for 15-30 seconds is FACTS! I’m a DJ, and sometimes I’ll play these songs and once the part everyone saw on TikTok is done, ppl look lost like what song is this lol. It’s crazy.
See that’s so crazy 😂 that is direct proof that a lot of the stuff is not translating outside of the Internet.
You forgot to mention when artists were trying a new gimmick by making a video saying they needed our help to make a tik tok viral song 😂 I think I remember Halsey or pink being one of the first ones to o do it I can’t remember
facts😂
pink is way older than halsey and doesn't do any tiktok stuff. she's already well established and still sells out big venues in europe and australia. people in the US always act like someone is a nobody if they're not super popular in the US anymore
YESSS MY GURL IS BACKK FOR. NEW CONTENT 😭
Back at it again !😊😊😊
Lemme get my popcorn for this one🍿🍿🍿
Kick your feet up!!
Hmmm, thanks for keeping up to date. I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a TikTok music artist. I’m not on the app so I just get second hand info about it.
Yeah, it’s like it’s new category of artist. It’s very interesting.
I don’t understand why some people try to defend TikTok with their life like the app isn’t even good anymore and most people will just flock to another app
I was on TikTok when I got this notification!! The food you promoted in the beginning looks really good...I should try it. I'm just very iffy about this ban. 😅
The food was delicious! Honestly, every meal that I got from factor I thoroughly enjoyed🙌🏽🙌🏽
Not the twinkle twinkle little b.😭😭😭😂
Good for music? I don't know, but definitly not good for music industry executives.
Ohhh definitely not
Ugh, how I’ve missed bridges. However, Annika Rose and Bonnie McKee are two users who promote their songs via TikTok, and still make full-fledged songs.
also ur sponsor is making me hungry af
@@melonpeach9723you should try factor! I’m not lying ….it was delicious
@@CamrynSuzanne I might have to! I trust your taste
@Ichijou_Matsomoku308 check em out i beg
proud of myself for mever touching that app since its release, id be hella insecure because of all that bullshit people spout on tiktok
I never caught on to TikTok, but I understand it will be a loss for content creators. I am sure Google will be happy, as they rushed UA-cam Shorts to compete against TikTok.
Like for everything, content creators will adapt, like the loss of MySpace.
She’s back!
😉😉
Thank you girl 😭😭😭😭😭
The TikTok ban is only good for artists who are already established. TikTok gave many indie artists the chance to be seen & heard without being pushed by a label. If the ban goes into effect, industry plants & artists who have sold themselves to a label will continue to be more dominant. I love that Tiktok propelled the discovery of new artists, specifically indie. Also, because of the ban, labels will continue to have the upperhand. TikTok caused them to lose their grip a bit. So many artists are killing it alone because of TikTok.
I see what you’ve saying, it definitely can differ depending on the type of artist
agreed
bruh I love a bridge!!! that is a critical element
Agreed!!
I think if TikTok gets banned people will just move to instagram or something. But I still do pray that TikTok gets banned tbh. Despite the pros I think the cons of TikTok on music are wayyyyy worse.
If other apps are just going to replace it then the cons will not go away.
THE DISCOURSE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR FROM YOU. omg. i’ve literally been waiting for this notification for so long. lemme go on my lunch chile 😚🤩🥰

Happy Friday!
When i saw the title i was like. Yes sis. Yes it is
Just like that😭
i wonder what will happen to music in non-american/america based artists
Mmm that’s would be interesting to analyze
i think they would still stick to promoting on youtube and instagram
the hard to swallow truth for some
omgggg i was thinking the exact same thing
While we’re at it, let’s ban Spotify, Apple, and Tidal. Let’s bring back real marketing campaigns for artists/albums. Let’s bring back real artists and talent. Let’s bring back PURE ALBUM SALES.
Yesss i actually want to do a video about pure sales and how streaming has absolutely skewed numbers!
@@CamrynSuzanne omg! That would be an awesome video!
Twinkle Twinkle little B*tch made me laugh way too much
The ban is good for many reasons, but I especially love that it forces the music industry to take more responsibility for promoting artists and stop relying on industry plants and short-lived artists whose music isn’t up to par.
I just found your channel, scrolled through your page, you literally don't miss. thanking my home page rn
Thank you so much!🥹
Hope we can have songs that are 4-5 minutes
Yes! I love a good 4 to 5 minute song. It takes you on a journey and I really miss that in music.
Seriously your editing is 🔥. Love your content and honest commentary. Also 3:24 you’re smooth with it!
I appreciate that!
#BanTikTok I really feel like this app brings music down and steals people their lives
Yeah i think in a general sense it negatively impacts the art , its tough tho bc i know some artists really love the app due to the doors it opened
Off topic but can we get a video of the impact of reality TV from the 90s to today like The Real World, Ex on The Beach, Baddies/Bad Girls Club, Love & Hip Hop, etc. as well as a deep dive into the shows.
Ooo maybe i’ll get more into my tv bag👀
@@CamrynSuzanne I feel you would provide interesting commentary on it. Another user Naomi Cannibal provided great insight into Bad Girls Club and Baddies specifically
Most artists are sooo lazy. They don’t even make bridges anymore.
I hate that for us
I’m glad I never got into TikTok. I did Dubsmash & when it changed to Vine & when it changed again I was already over it.
I forgot it was called dubsmash😭 memory unlocked
@@CamrynSuzanne lol
Camryn you are so pretty. Just had to tell you that. Keep up the good work
It always gives me a little bit of second hand embarrassment when you can tell that someone’s trying to make a trend out of their song from what they see people doing with other songs. Especially when the only people who do the trend are doing it as an ad. Good luck to them if the trends do catch on though, it’s not easy to put your work out there
Kind of unrelated but a lot of micro trends start on TikTok so I’m curious to see what would happen trend-wise if it does get banned.
Oooo that would be very interesting to look at
I love this content.
Thank you!🙌🏽
Idk I think many talented artists who love music feel distraught by this because tiktok gives them a chance.
I really want tiktok to be banned so my addiction is finally over
That was my main reason why I never fully got into TikTok it’s because I knew it would be addicting and I need to increase my productivity levels and I would’ve just made things 100 times worse
@@CamrynSuzanne real and I’m only 14 and ik their are kids younger then me on the site this could be horrible for devolpment
Even your promos are good! You put in the work! 3:30 Congratulations 🍾
Thanks so much!!
I really wish for MVs era to be back😩
Yesss i miss a song of the summer😭 we spend 2 seconds on any song and then move onto the next. A lot doesn’t stick anymore
As an artist, I'm looking forward to more thoughtful music and artists who spent time perfecting their craft getting more attention. I liked the just-for-fun music when it first started coming out but it's so tiring now.
Props to you not using the baltimore bridge collapse shot at 13:33 😂
Ohh yeah noo😭 prayers up to those affected that is way too soon
I have discovered some really great smaller artists via tiktok so I'm very happy about that. Howeverrr Tiktok has transformed the music industry notably and in my opinion, mostly negatively. I miss bridges in songs!
(I stopped using tiktok in december and I am in such a better mental state highly recommend)
Bridges became less prominent long before TikTok.
LET’S GO SPONSOR!!!!! 🗣️
You see me??👀👀
I do love the hope that songs can be longer again and more thought out, and full length albums eras BUT I also feel like independent artists and small artists trying to grow a fan base so they can get signed are going to suffer greatly.
Every time I see someone I’ve never heard of blow up the charts I think,
“who has the CCP forced on us this week?”
Or maybe I’m just old and bitter because I’m 40 and Amy Shark took 15 years to get noticed.
I love your content! You make really good, logical points!!
Thank you!!😊😊😊
Back again with a banger of a video
Ayeee thank you🙌🏽
Short form content hurt the music industry. Can we go back? Is this the future? If Tiktol gets banned the people are moving to IG and Shorts
Short form content is really the culprit of the decline of so much , 😓
Oh, I'm ready.

Yea she's cute but a horrible person 😂
Tiktok getting banned means labels will have to invest more in artist development since they can't just rely on a viral trend propping up their artists and songs anymore. Tiktok isn't all bad, hell there's artists that I absolutely love that blew up from it and I've discovered but its also made the industry from the label heads, A&R, artists on down very lazy and overly reliant on the app to get a quick hit/viral moment and nothing else. Its extended careers that, IMO, are way past expiry date and has let mediocre/nonexistent talents thrive.
Exactly what im sayin! Labels gonna have to work on development again which I think can benefit the industry in a lot of ways from a talent standpoint
You’ve GOT to react to Tori Kelly’s new album TORI. She is bringing the artistry back
She dropped a new album?👀

I know it's so annoying when most of the music nowadays is made for trends and just going viral based on a 15-30 second clip, but that's it for the artist. It's whether marketable for the record labels nor for the artist themselves. The artist can't fully be creative with their idea and has to just cater to what's currently popular, in addition of trying to leave upto everybody's expectations so that they can stay relevant to the general public. Plus, the record label can't profit off them because, let's be honest, most of the time, these huge viral moments aren't sustainable, hence not profitable. It's a lose-lose situation if you ask me
Yes lose lose is the word, it’s not easy to please everyone especially not in the industry.
Another song that broke the curse for me was Raye’s escapism ! I genuinely think it’s great throughout
I have to listen!!
