1. Agreed! This should have been on her list! There is ZERO BREEZE in Naples or on the west coast in general. Much breezier on the east coast, and you will feel the difference all year long. It's why most people live there.
Owned 2 homes in Naples, FL 1990/2014. Lived there full time 2001/2014. Got out just in time. Moved to Western North Carolina. Why? Naples became to expensive, to crowded, change in demographics, your at the end of the State (400 miles to the Georgia border). The traffic is bad in the summer and awful during winter season. I miss the weather, beach, certain restaurants, and people watching on Fifth Ave. on a Saturday night. Made huge $$$$ on our Real Estate and were lucky to make some good coin when we lived there. The current insurance debacle is just icing on the cake.

Florida has changed forever. It is being paved over by concrete and construction to make the rich richer. Sad but true. State Parks prevent high rise condos and apartments from being built on beaches. Buildings on beaches cause loss of natural protection barriers that causes floods, loss of beaches, property values, and less tourism. Support Conservation of Parks to save the old Florida.
I agree to disagree. I do appreciate your comments! And somewhat I have to agree. My daughter does have to decide to move away from Naples to something more affordable! Yes, I completely agree with the healthcare system! I would agree that major issues Boston or Cleveland Clinic!
We lived in Naples for 40+ years and saw the overwhelming changes that too place there. While growth was to be expected what growth that happened to Naples and Collier County was totally overboard. There was no interest by the community leaders and politicians to help control the growth. All they could see was more money. Back in the 70's they would always say that we will never allow the west coast to become like the east coast. Well it's well on it's way. The infrastructure such as roads and utilities has never been able to keep up with the growth causing many problems over the years. But again, no one in charge seems to care, it's all about build, build build. One of the saddest things is the total disregard for the history of the community and it's natives and long time residents. It's all about taking care of the newcomers and the money that they are bringing with them. There is very little history left of what was Naples years ago. Probably the worst part is what the cost of living in Naples has become. Over the years they have little by little pushed out the middle class and working families. The cost of housing whether it be owning real estate or renting has gotten totally out of control for the average working person. So many of the people that work in Naples now have to live sometimes an hour away in Lee County as they can no longer afford the cost of housing in Collier County. Don't even talk about getting insurance for your home as the cost is overwhelming that's even if you can get insurance. And if you do don't be surprised if your policy get cancelled with little to no notice. Oh, and don't forget you may need flood insurance too. Naples truly has many very nice attributes especially if your are a retired wealthy snowbird. There is the beach, golf, dining and the arts. What's not to like as long as you can afford it. But for the average working family those things don't mean a lot if they are always working to pay the cost of living there. Many of the natives and long time residents have left or are leaving as they can no longer deal with what Naples has become or can afford to live there any longer. We left and have no regrets what so ever. While Naples will always have a piece of my heart it's not for me any longer. I miss what Naples use to be not what it's become.
We love Naples. It's expensive but that helps keep the crime low. The sheriff's office is aggressive on crime. They use alot of unmarked vehicles. We have never heard of 8 hour ER wait times. Very conservative community. No job's pay a living wage in Naples even if your a registered or professional career.
Healthcare concierge BS is going on in NY, but I think some doctors will be getting in trouble for it. Booking appointments at a doctor's office and them having PAs do the work is really like a no-show job.
Also the wait times are unacceptable. That is if you can get an appointment. Many HMOs are assigning appointments by a lottery system even for cancer treatments. They cannot get enough qualified staff. That is why a good education and being competent is so important.
Because they have been invaded by people from the northeast who have also made their way up into the Sarasota Tampa area, destroying all the good vibes there as well

I was there for vacation ( 1 week only) and that WAS enough . nice beach and a quiet place , my opinion is: it's a place were millionaires go to spend their last days watching the sunset from their beautiful beach homes. A place for the rich and that's all.
All this bad news about Naples is such a danged shame. I lived there when just ordinary, every day people populated the place. (of course except in Port Royal). We rode our bikes to school...could go into town to the tiny hotdog shop at lunch time....there were less than 2,000 people there then. Gone are the days....
The reason you feel out of place in Naples as opposed to Sarasota is because Sarasota St Pete has a thriving cultural art’s community, sports, thriving waterfront in St Pete as opposed to Snobby Naples which really has very little to offer but old farts at Blue Martini looking for hook ups in their Aston Martins.
Yes a trip to Publix is like What? lol. The best is when they use the childrens carts at Trader Joes and don't realize that they are Using the childrens carts, 😂😅
Lots of very old people there. That is probably why they say the Naples hospital is bad. Sadly, some of those folks would have passed anyway. Either way, hospitals must provide excellent health care or be held accountable.
There Is NO excuse for any of this! It's just comes down to one word- GREED! GREED for money! They know they can get it so that's what they charge. I've lived in Florida for close to 40 years now. I lived in Naples from 1979-1985 and loved it mostly because I met my husband there, married there, bought my first home there and had our first child there. Because of the way things are now with crowds, heat, high tax snd insurance expenses, over-building and climate change and storms, we will never go back except to visit.
When I moved to Florida my attitude was that I was willing to live in a trailer home because it's still Florida. I came here for the climate, sunshine, and peaceful living. When I want to go to the beach, it's just a drive away.
Well it’s a real thing. My ex cardiologist sent a letter saying if you want to see him, you pay $5k a year. Otherwise you’ll see the PA. I’m in Sarasota and everything she says about Naples is true here too. And huge new housing developments just keep coming.
Naples has real nice beaches - nice downtown area and plenty of shopping choices Negatives - high housing prices, traffic and crazy drivers, heat May to October, need private membership to play golf, limited activities, health care issues & NY attitude.
You are spot on about the 10 hour emergency room wait times. I’m a nurse and worked for NCH for 7 years and patients would come to the floor stating they had been in the ED for over 20 hours. And yes, in the off season we would always close floors until the next season and then they would frantically be hiring travel and seasonal nurses who made more than twice what staff nurses make, however they are unbenifited. It’s just how it is with the massive population change every 6 months. I’m now at Lee Health and it is so much better.
This was excellent. Thank you. We researched for 5 years for retirement locations after having travelled for over 30 years to Florida. We had Naples in the short list and had a visited two years ago. As a person who is comfortable with people from all backgrounds and socio economic situations, I felt for the first time in my life and I was a little uncomfortable by the kind of wealth that was there. It was like, "Hm, I wonder if they would look down on me if I do my own housework? People taking a walk looked like they just got back from the golf club. Being from the Northwest, I know of surgeons, ranchers, and people in finance who likely have as much or more wealth as many in Naples, but they never talk about their clothing brands, cars etc in a comparing way. I know that I didn't talk with everyone on my visit to Naples, but there were most definitely airs and a kind of pride that I was not comfortable with. It just wasn't me.
When I was a child many years ago, my momma used to say the rich get richer. The poor get poorer. Them that has gets. The world is not always fair. Being and getting rich is mostly about who you know.
The problem with moving to a place you enjoyed on vacation is that thousands of other people have the same idea and soon the area is nothing like the place you wanted to move.
Im a Florida resident. I have friends in Naples. Apparently it has gotten so expensive that long time residents can’t afford any more. But, except for the destroyed coast, it’s a beautiful city.
I like Naples but is there anything that you can do there that you can't in any other nice part of Florida? East coast has professional sports and newer high rises not subject to erosion. I like GL homes but many are over 55 or in the middle of nowhere. If you go east on Corkscrew there is nothing there and only congestion going west. When hurricane comes where do you get gas or food? They advertise Ave Maria but that's even worse. Seems like the city planners could have done a better job with the Naples area instead of only catering to the Vanderbilts.
We have vacationed in Naples for 20 years and have seen it get obscenely worse (in ALL ways) since the pandemic and its accompanying influx of yankees. I am a serious amateur golfer and have had the fortune to play at quite a few Private (not semi-private) clubs there over the years. This spring while down there, I was told what the new initiation is at one of my favorite courses - and it is now for me unthinkable. The members told me that the demand became so great during the pandemic that the clubs had to materially raise the initiation & dues to slow the application pace. Today there are very nice home developments with an excellent golf club where the home cost is tolerable but that the club cost basically keeps you from being able to play the course right in your backyard - or there is a waiting list keeping you from joining - so the house becomes a dead deal. So current owners are beginning to see trouble in selling due to this mismatch. Things in Naples are numerically VERY out of whack right now. The peak of that market has been met. Naples needs a US recession and an increased death rate to bring back some normalcy.
Funny thing is, before the pandemic most of the golf courses and home developments on them were going broke because golf was becoming less played. It picked up because people Could play then. Once again the Overkill sets in. Not many young people are going to pay $$$$ to play golf in 90 degree weather in humid areas. and most are not impressed with 70 and overs in ostentatious cars swaying all over the roads. I have never seen more 75-80 yr olds in Corvettes, funny. great pensions and hey SS checks pick up half the car payment. And they are rude to workers always rolling eyes, I'm from Manhattan, I never knew Michigan, Chicago people were so uncultured.
Great eye-opening video ! I have a customer building a new house in Naples for 15 million down the street from his 3 year old 8 million house. The new home is not much bigger but he's getting a little bit larger pool. Hope he doesn't get burned when it comes time to sell the 8 million dollar house.
I thought really hard about Naples, but decided Fort Lauderdale was a better move. Close to Bahamas for boating. Miami is down the road for entertainment and flights to anywhere.
I’m a Florida native. I moved to South Carolina near Charlotte. We love it here. Have watched the value of our home here go up and up. I suppose it will come crashing down before too long. But, we paid cash for so we don’t have a mortgage. So far South Carolina taxes and insurance are very reasonable.
Good info. Thanks. I have a friend, reasonably well-to-do. who retired with his spouse to Naples maybe eight years ago. They left, moved to Tennessee after maybe two years, for the same reasons you cited (except for a boat). I’m already retired too, doubt seriously I would move to any of the usual retirement spots, egs, Florida and Arizona.
I had to move to Ft Myers from Michigan when i was 15 in1972.I always hated the weather but it was very quiet and laid back then. Fortunately I was able to escape in 1999 and now live in N.C.Went back to visit family about 5 years ago and there is absolutely nothing that would make me move back to Florida .To hot,to expensive,to far south to drive to get out of state and oh ya WAY to overcrowded and unless you like golfing or boating and have a boat load of money let me rephase that a large yacht full of money you better think twice.

Simple. Cost of living. Sky rocketing prices for homes, mortgage rates, insurance, property taxes, HOA costs and everything else. Thank your congress as they print $1 trillion every 3 months and the consequence of monetary inflation is higher prices.
Just sold our home there this month after moving back for 5 years. Been coming to and living in SW Florida fornthe better part of 40 years. It is, simply put, ruined. Infrastructure is broken. They keep building and building with no real solution to traffic. 45 min to 1 hour each way every day for a 15 mile drive. It was never like that until 3 years ago. Immokalee road is beyond dangerous. I lived in Miami for 2 years and this is much worse. I am a healthcare worker who does very well on a national pay scale range. Difficult to afford living. Move elsewhere and live like a king. Job opportunities are poor for someone like me who can get a job anywhere. Pay simply has not kept up with other areas in the country with similar standards of living. The real reason to live there is the ocean. Just try getting there and if you have a boat figure on 3 hours wasted on getting there and going home. Naples, compared to even 5 years ago, is truly paradise lost. I won't even go into skyrocketing taxes, HOA, and homeowners insurance. The attitudes of folks from rich to poor have taken a huge plunge as well. Basically everything she says is spot on. Would not recommend moving there unless you are very wealthy. Which poses another problem. Who is going to take care of all these rich folk in this area that is a service driven industry when all the service workers can't afford to live there including high-paid medical workers ? Seriously take that into consideration before even remotely thinking about living there.
My husband and I are retired and live in Estero. I have lived in Tampa in 1986-1993. It was a bedroom community, not touristy or snowbirds. I never realized how many snowbirds and tourists in this Naples area. Besides the Insurance increase, I agree the health care problem is extremely unsettling. When moving here in 2015 I have had many health issues. Had heart surgery with Lee Health and was pleased with the outcome. Trying to get an appointment with my cardiologist as you said is a waiting game. The snow birds take precedence. We are full time and make the economy here in Florida not the snowbirds. I have had it and ready to move out. The housing boom has collapsed and hoping we can sell and move back up north.
My father loved Naples/ Ft Myers area before air conditioning. That was a while back of course. He always said that AC ruined the state. He quit going for his long winter break
How about the lack of things to do? The zoo is a joke, there seems to only be shopping and dining both of which you better be rich to do, there's zero culture or nightlife, social suicide if you're under 50 and you can't even enjoy the beaches as they're all built up with mega mansions and public beach access is limited with pay by the hour parking! Worked there for 2 yrs, glad I don't have to go back.
Born and raised in so Flo and it’s a private jetter’s paradise. Fly in fly out. Only way it works. Next lights out moment will be a SHTF moment. Imagine all these ppl jumping on the three main roads leading North all trying to get out at the same time. Causeways and elevators don’t usually work well in these situations
She just scratched the surface. I could put together a list of a dozen reasons we left after owning a home there for over ten years, and her list is not even on my list. The inescapable heat and humidity. You have maybe a few hours of time to be outdoors. One or two hours in the morning, maybe two hours in the evening. If you're a golfer, plan on paying ridicules green fees and playing only in the mornings. Bugs, 20-foot snakes, fire ants, alligators, wild boar pigs, bears, panthers and the Lord knows what else you'll find in your backyard or pool on any given day. It's a jungle! And those critters are not parting with their homes. Discrepancy in living standards. The well to do are all huddled close to the water. The farther east you travel, the poorer the people live. Immokolee being just a short 20-mile drive east is an absolute ghetto. Halfway between the two are those who tell their northern friends they are rich, enjoying life in "paradise", but are usually spending the day indoors watching soap operas. Eating out is out of the question as all restaurants are overcrowded, hours of waiting and very expensive. Half of the local population speaks no English whatsoever. They are great folks individually, but in their groups it's another story. This is without a doubt the number one unspoken reason jobs are so hard to find in this area. The traffic is absolutely terrible. In season its stop and go traffic constantly. Off season they all drive like they're at the Daytona 500. I'll stop with the big one. Hurricanes! We lived through two of them and another near miss in the ten years we lived there. One in your life is enough even if you're lucky enough to keep your home. The stress is unbelievable. A week prior to the storm, you watch the progress wondering if you should board up or not. Two days before you pull the trigger and if you're smart, you get the hell out of there. With Irma, we fled to Minnesota, spent three weeks there not having any idea what we had left back home. When we did return, we drove through 50 miles of devastation before making our way home. We had to saw our way into our driveway and the rubble sat in front of our home for over six months. Still no electricity. Try living in a jungle without air conditioning or water. No fuel for generators. Blue tarps on roofs as far as we could see. Destroyed homes and buildings that were left as the owner couldn't afford to repair them. Squatters in every home not attended to. Once things settle down, you get the letter from the insurance company that (if you were lucky) notified you your premiums were tripling or you were outright cancelled. Since we left five years ago, the area has been hit by two more storms. And today another, Milton is on its way. In my opinion, they should convert this entire state into a national park. Give it back to the critters. That's the reality of Florida living.
Keep preachin' sister! Maybe we can get enough people to leave so I don't have to. I dislike what Naples has become. I miss the way it was in the early 1990's.
In the ‘70s Naples was nothing more than a small housing area near the pier. Had to go to Ft Myers to go to a movie theatre or drive in. Completely insane what happened to the southwest coast of Florida.
Born and raised here. Plenty of service jobs working for the wealthy and buying our homes before it has been raided by outsiders. I prefer to keep the herds down so it still resembles the small town I grew up in. Im glad its not Sarasota or even East coast where the cotton heads live full-time. We enjoy our town when they leave for the summer. Its when we can moor our boats on their docks if thats one of the things you cry about.🤣🤣🤣 I can tell you we cherish the wealthy that are seasonal. Ive never worked for a poor person. Building great relationships are great investments.
Estero has the best location; quick access to airport, 41, 75, Gulf Coast, Coconut point, Miramar Outlets. Reasonable drive to Naples and Fort Myers and Bonita Beach road to Ft Myers Beach. Taxes lowest in Lee county. Many full-time residents.
The healthcare freaking SUCKS all over SW FL! It's impossible to get appointments! 6 months to a year+ out! Plus, there are no health systems here in SW FL that contain ALL of the specialties like we have up north in WI. In WI we have opthalmology, optemtry, dermatology, psychologists, podiatry, etc etc all within 1 healthnsystem, so our records are all together in 1 system. Here all those specialties are split out and your health records are all over the freaking place.

Wow, this was original! I have never heard the scandal about health care in this detail. If you are having heart attacks and need a cardiologist, not much can be done about that with economic strategy. You need to live in a place that has enough of those, and the video makes that clear. What about emergency care? Do they have drive-up 24 hour centers like the rest of the country? If you just need a mammogram or prostate check, and it can be anytime within reason, does the concierge bump you from that? Scarcity is the definition of economics, and it sounds like the doctors there have taken matters into their own hands. The health insurance companies could mitigate the issue, by just charging more for coverage in various locations, and paying higher fees to match what the doctors get in a certain locality. Medicaid Florida would have to exact a huge tax on Naples, to then turn around and give that money to any doctor serving one of its patients. It's all just supply and demand. if you don't want people to hit the black market, you have to make a more natural market exist.
I love the Naples area:) lived here but in Pelican Landing for 18!yrs. I am from Sarasota area. I do own a healthcare business, but in Lee County. Love 💕 this area year round.
The only people that can survive, living at such a high cost would be professionals. If you’re in the service industry, you’ll never make it out of the trailer park you live in because that’s all you can afford. And, lose your job, you’re homeless, holding up signs on the side of 95 interstate. If you don’t believe me, stop and talk to some of the homeless that hold up signs I work for food. They will tell you they were waitresses, waiters, dishwashers, worked in the service industry. Make sure you give them a $20 bill for their time. On top of everything, Naples is a ghost town after 5pm. I am glad moved out sw Florida to a place that have a normal life. Very happy in the golden state.
They should put bets in vegas of when a hurricane will hit florida. Every single year billions are wasted in rebuilding home that will be destroyed again in a 5 to 10 year period. That's why there's no state income tax that is one of their selling points but you have now have to pay $100,000 condo tax, home insurance, flood insurance, HOA taxes are at $2000 per month. All the big insurance companies have left do to rising cost of rebuilding a new home. Florida is a tax haven for the millionaires and billionaires, but not for everyone else.
Very well said and thank you very much for your honesty and courage. About time someone told the truth, even though no one wants to hear about this horrific cost of living.

I moved to Naples from New England almost a decade ago, best move I’ve ever made. Absolutely love it here!
…I won’t own a home in SW Florida, got tired of running from hurricanes

Florida has changed forever. It is being paved over by concrete and construction to make the rich richer. Sad but true. State Parks prevent high rise condos and apartments from being built on beaches. Buildings on beaches cause loss of natural protection barriers that causes floods, loss of beaches, property values, and less tourism. Support Conservation of Parks to save the old Florida.

Ny'ers, mass holes and Quebec elite have ruined south Florida
Add one other thing it’s Florida
What you wrote is really informative. I only love Naples as it used to be....back in the 50's thru the 70's or mid 80's.
We love Naples. It's expensive but that helps keep the crime low. The sheriff's office is aggressive on crime. They use alot of unmarked vehicles. We have never heard of 8 hour ER wait times.

I guess covid failed to accomplish that in Naples.
You,might say I am nuts, but Iwill stay here in Chicago area!

Cheap
Summer is hot as hell. Red tide. Very over crowded. Overpriced.

Then stay in Wisconsin, bye.

@@RobertA-jp8lh And thank them for prohibiting insurance companies from denying coverage for "pre-existing conditions", which basically everyone has from normal aging.
Grew up there in the 70s and 80s. It's a shame what it has become. Glad we were there when it was still nice.
I moved to Estero 4 years ago, please tell me why you think it’s better?
Yes would love to hear about Estero
Love 💕 Naples FL
lol, Naples is Paradise....it's great here. Lost my job over a year ago with immediate job offers, said no thank you as not leaving here. as for healthcare, if you don't like concierge, shop around. It's been so much better here than what we had in MD around Annapolis.
And not sure where all the seasonal talk is coming from. Seen how many schools are here? It's pretty fulltime and younger than what people claim.
And for cost of living, relative.....it's less here for me from where I moved from.
I moved from Washington state 2 years ago and everything you said I feel like is apply to all Florida not just Naple
Not for me. I grew up in FL and ran a business there later, but left 50 years ago and will never move back.
@LivingInAnInverseReality Too developed, too crowded, too much traffic, too hot, and too much crime.
@@dabprod what are you talking about? There wasn't sh!t out here 50 years ago. No traffic, very little crime and no crowds. That's happening today not 50 years ago. It was dead back then.
@@yvesouza514 Not talking about just Naples. I grew up in FL, lived there many years, owned several businesses there but left 50 years ago and glad I did.
inherited a home in naples and tried it......the worst thing to me is the amazing over development, soon ,the once abundant wildlife, especially the birds!, will be gone. Big big mistake. natural swampland over pavement anytime! sold the place and back home in key west. this is real florida.
I have not had any problems in Sarasota with Doctor's appointments....the hospital (SMH) is great never had a problem.
I always learn something new on your channel. Thanks Barrett ❤
Youre so welcome -- thank you!
most people were they are coming from are trained on the cost of living already, reason why they are leaving is the home they purchased just 5 years ago for $450000.is now $1.5 million. Didn't even finish building a house in Naples Reserve and sold it for over $500000 what i paid for it.
I call Florida the F word. Was born in Miami, raised in North Florida. I escaped to Atlanta and that changed after 20 years, horribly too. I live in the country on the like way up north. Just lovely.
In 2024 record number of units for sale in Naples last time this high was 2012. Prices dropping and average time on market has gone way up. Honeymoon is over in Fla w insurance and condo fees skyrocketing. In 2023 750000 ppl moved to Fla over 500000 moved out
The cost have gone up everywhere.
Plane ticket from Chicago to Naples cost $285. The same day and airlines ticket from Chicago to Miami cost $89.
I like pelican landing too. ❤️
You may not see them again,They usually die from addiction or are euthanized by qualified immunity
95 is on the east coast.
@@srakich4819 and your point is? 95 runs up east coast from Miami to New York
On top of everything, Naples is a ghost town after 5pm. I am glad moved out sw Florida to a place that have a normal life. Very happy in the golden state.
Where did you move? We just bought property in Alabama!
Oh man for sure. Naples is sleeping at dusk! Hated it! Living in SoCal now. Extremely happy here!!
@@marshallj2415 Well, you must be a commie nazis demorat by now.
I live on Marco, #2 is 100% correct!
Very well said and thank you very much for your honesty and courage. About time someone told the truth, even though no one wants to hear about this horrific cost of living.
If you’re coming from the north east Naples is still very affordable and not overly populated. I guess it’s all perspective.
Share about Estero, never heard of it. I like that.
Generally speaking, they are wealthy people trying to be around others like themselves. I presume that most of them did something to be able to be there. Florida is in transition. it's a great place live. The wealthy are coming in, and the prices are getting crazy in prime areas. I've been to Naples many times, and it is a beautiful place. I'm grateful for what I have and have no ill will for those who have achieved more. I have lived in Ft. Myers, for many years, I knew 40 years ago that Naples had a lot of wealthy people, nothing new to me.
Charles Ponzi would be proud of these developments..........
