You guys’ R&R stop reminds me of how much I miss the Malaysian tropical rain storms. I remember sitting in my late Tok Mak and Tok Bah outdoor kitchen, eating pisang goreng, listening to, and watching the rain fall. After the rain, comes the frogs and they get loud. My Tok Mak would say that the frogs are calling out for the rain to come back so the snakes won’t get them - neat little tale lol.

Mango cheesecake at Kula Cake kuantan.. sekejap sangat ichang singgah kuantan.. ikan patin tempoyak is the most delicious dish if the gravy is not sweet.. tapi orang sekarang semua nak dimaniskan.. kalau makan kat kampung2 baru dapat yang real mcm ichang n jimmy makan tu.. kalau kat RnR pun, manis, gobang pun sama.. loya tekak..

good morning ichang and jimmy! just wanna drop by and say how i love your travel vlogs. all of them. discovering those hidden sides of malaysia reminds me of my own childhood few years back when my parents would bring me and my siblings out to random states in malaysia, introducing us to places. the r&rs, the route along the kampung, the rest at warung tepi jalan, the scenery, even the highway scene reminded me of when it would be just me and my dad awake, staring at nothingness on the road as we drive along. your adventure makes my core childhood memory lights up. you two have taught me how to enjoy each passing days more and more. thank you so much!

Next time you try to follow beach route from Kuantan to Kuala Terengganu. A bit far and slow (because of traffic) but the beach and village view is spectacular.

Temerloh is my mother’s home town.. very famous with ikan patin & tempoyak.. just go back to Temerloh on end of last year.. to attend cousin’s wedding.. Your next stop is Terengganu.. don’t forget to try Seafood celup tepung which is one of the famous dish in Terengganu

Thats why i love ichang and jimmy..they manage to find the best place to eat...and of course eating patin tempoyak in temerloh pahang,especially small restaurant in village,more tasty than the famous or viral restaurant..and definitely will taste the original kampung recipe of patin tempoyak...

I like the way u are enjoying your simple lunch dish. Just 1 type of protein (ikan patin), ulam & sambal tempoyak. This way u can focusedly enjoy the taste of the food. U may find Patin dish elsewhere in KL but the taste in Temerloh just hit differently😊. Do come again here

iChang & Jimmy sure knows how to enjoy tempoyak and ulam!! Tempoyak is my favorite too 😋😍. I don't know if you have tried Gulai Tempoyak Daun Kayu. It's made of many types of leaves/herbs such as pucuk ubi, pumpkin shoots, serai, daun kunyit, pucuk kaduk, petai to name a few and of course tempoyak. It's one of Negeri Sembilan specialty other than Gulai Daging Salai. Hope you get to taste it😋.

Temerloh have the best river fish not only Patin. The local Chinese restaurant will have more variation of fresh river fish. When you reach Kelantan, make sure to go Tanah Merah to eat durian Raja Kunyit. That’s the origin of Musang King before artificially into commercial breed.
A quick historical info, Malaysia current KDYMM Yang di-Pertuan Agong is Sultan of Pahang.

The patin is so fresh, probably the catch of the morning. I personally most prefer the belly (middle) part which have lots of fats. The tempoyak gravy is heavenly. The tempoyak is also fresh as you can still taste its sweetness and durian flavour. Temerloh indeed is the patin tempoyak center of Pahang.

I keep drooling watching you eating patin tempoyak. I think you should tell the takoyaki and roti john vendors to halve the sauce they usually put. I agree that malaysians tend to overdose on the sauce. Whenever i tapau my roti john, i always skip the sauce. Just add my own dressing at home.

Just looking at the Patin Tempoyak & Patin bakar made me drooling🤤🤤. Whenever I have Ramly burger & roti John, I will request no sauces or only bbq sauce when available. I don't mind Japanese mayo but not Malaysian mayo. It's sweet 😣😩.

Most of Malaysia mayo use condense milk as one of their ingredients..that’s why the mayo is sweet..the original mayo not using the sweet ingredient in their recipe..mayo should be sour & a little bit salty..or if want the sweet taste can use natural ingredient like fruit or honey..for the spice can use a little bit of black pepper..

Patin fish flesh is soft. The fish you eat is caught or breed in Pahang river, good when eaten fresh, also high in good cholesterol, the oily soft part of the fish which Jimmy hold.
Saya orang temerloh pun tak pernah sampai lagi kedai ikan patin tu.. hehehe
for durian I urge you to consider visiting batu kurau in perak. a lot of durian there this season. you can stay in Taiping before heading to batu kurau

Hi Ichang, there's two types of Ikan Patin. Sangkar(farm cage) and Wild(Freshly catch from river). If freshly catch from river, you need to check out the price first. Coz it may cost few hundreds for a pc or one whole fish.
I am visiting Temerloh this weekend for Patin....Understand there is a big price difference...but is there a big difference in taste between the wild and farmed?

I don't think we people who rarely eat patin can tell the different. They say that farm fish got less taste and a lot of fat. while wild one is sweeter and no fat part.
Maybe its similar to the difference between fresh catch sea fish compare to the frozen one when we cook. where the fresh one you can feel the sweet of freshness at your throat 😊😊
I used to live by the river when I was small. I would get all muddy playing by the river bank and my mum would cane me and the next day I'd do it again. No internet, no phones but so much fun 😅😅. Now, I'am all grown up and have loans and bills to pay. Life ..... cant have it all, I guess .....
Kuantan to Kuala Trengganu, you can try taking the coastal road whereby you pass small towns. For e.g. Kemaman where you have their famous stuffed crab, or Hai Peng coffee with toasted or steamed bread

Coastal road to Kuala Terrengganu will ensure that both of you to have plenty of stops and layovers. Apart from the white and endless beach, the foods available will makes your mouth waters.
In Kemaman there’ a a wicked seafood restaurant: Tomjuan Restaurant and Kemaman Kopitiam. Also at Bukit Kijal, there are durian kampongs. Then there are Penyu or Leatherback Turtles at Kuala Abang. Keropok lekor and Keropok can be found further up closer to K Terrengganu.
