    Gulai=Malay spices
    Curry= Indian spices
    Many people still confused about it... as i mentioned before Terengganu & Kelantan produced own type of gulai spices....not only for gulai ikan, but still many like kerutuk daging, gulai ayam, gulai kawah, kuzi, dalca & so on...what type of dishes you want to cook almost every spice you can get....maybe you can tour Pasar Besar to get or buy for yourself the "rempah gulai" if you wanna cook at home...

      Yes agree, can go to Pasar Payang, there is an uncle selling the spices. Just tell him what spices we want, he will mix the ingredients for us.

    Bnyak tmpat yg viral kalau ganu ni untuk nasi dagang. Tp kalau ikut selera peribadi lebih memilih Nasi dagang sebelah masjid kampung surau panjang. Gulai tak manis, rasa gulai ikan pekat dan sangat2 sedap.

    Ichang wearing batik looks like local people already. Everything in Terengganu and Kelantan food and drink are sweeter than other states. Yes,Terengganu famous for the beautiful beach, so it is nice plan to have a trip to island such as Pulau Redang or maybe Pulau Perhentian (cheaper but more beautifull coral to scuba activities compare to Redang).

  • @andresloft

    Normally, stalls may separate the fish out from the curry/gulai after cooking so that the fish meat does not disintegrate. This place serves the gulai/curry at the table, others may have a separate pot of gulai/curry and they will pour it over the fish and rice when you order.
    The acar for the Nasi Dagang though, could be more generous. Typical Nasi Dagang acar consist of pickled Timun (cucumber), Lobak Merah (Carrot, it’s generally called that because there is also lobak putih, which is radish and both have about the same shape), Bawang (Onion, Red Onion in particular), big red Chill and Nenas (Pineapple). @iChang RM can search for the recipe online and easily prepare at home and it’s a refreshing veg addition to any rice dish frankly. Can be stored in fridge up to 1.5 weeks. Nice eaten chilled.
    Good Nasi Dagang has bits of shallots and even bits of ginger, and yes it is not a soggy type of rice dish. And it is prepared differently in the state of Kelantan, Trengganu and Pahang.
    Nasi Kunyit is pretty nice, and you can have it with any type of gulai, or curry, spicy or savoury. Because it is Nasi Pulut (sticky rice) based, it is great to enjoy with thick sauce/gravy like gulai and curry.
    Tried Nasi Minyak? The rice is also yellow, but not sticky rice though and has raisin and some has green peas

Mereka juga cakap di malaysia sgt senang nak beli mskanan,walaupun lewat2 malam,boleh order atau pergi restoran. Di negara mereka budaya makan lewat malam tak begitu diamalkan....

    Terengganu has the nicest beach in peninsular. I love your batik blouse ichang, so nice and look comfortable to wear. I think nasi dagang can be quite an acquired taste, i have friends who don't really enjoy nasi dagang 😅 there can be 2 versions of nasi dagang though, either nasi dagang terengganu or nasi dagang kelantan. Maybe you can try both and see..some people prefer gulai ayam with nasi dagang instead of gulai ikan tongkol.

    Yes Terengganu is well known for their beautiful islands (pulau) and turtles.
    Pulau Redang - quite exclusive one usually suitable for family and honeymoon couple.
    Pulau Perhentian Kecil - a happening one, usually a lot of backpackers there
    Pulau Kapas - can just go for a daytrip, a more quiet one if sleep there...
    But foods on island are usually way more expensive than the mainland.

    Originally nasi daging is eaten with gulai ikan tongkol/aya/kayu.
    To cook gulai ikan tongkol , you need to use their special spice. It is not the ordinary fish spice. In terengganu, if you said want to buy ‘rempah kari nasi dagang’ then the seller will
    Know right away the kind of spice you want. So do the rice.
    Normally we buy beras nasi dagang or we mix normal rice with beras wangi.

    This is authentic original gravy for Nasi Dagang in Terengganu. If you eat at other state quite different and the gravy more to yellowish even the rice is different. Anyway, if you eat it in Terengganu, it is original.

    btw nasi dagang in Terengganu is quite different from 1 place to another. some got a bit sweeter than others so are more spicy and some place come with acar (pickles). you should try Baulu near Shell Kampung Rhu Rendang and also keropok lekor. also not to be forgotten Laksa Terengganu kuah masak and laksam. if you want to taste kuih muih from terengganu you both can go to pasar kedai payang or pasang Marang(morning) and you can try nasi minyak from the local stall nearby.

    Nice to see you guys are having local breakfast i.e Nasi Dagang. What do you think of the taste between Nasi Dagang from Kelantan and the one from Terengganu? Any difference? Next stop…Pasar Payang, Kuala Terengganu, Keropok Losong, Sotong celup tepung (next to the airport) and may be a trip to Pulau Kapas (the nearest island from the main land.
