Too bad Go Go Nippon wasn't on the list, he might have actually been able to stomach that game
Azeal_Nightxx9199 or heck if he had a really long time to kill Fate/Stay Night

Phantom1100 oh yeah because the one franchise to use as introduction to all things anime to someone not interested in the medium is the goddamn Fate/Stay Night. Couldn’t pick a more convoluted franchise with more branching narratives and/or parallel universes and shit?
Agreed
"Most don't pass the immediately turn the TV off when someone walks in test"
I've never heard the argument against anime articulated so well
yeah, I mean... there's the sexualized stuff, but then there's also the absurd humor when watching something like Pop Team Epic, Osomatsu-san or Gintama, you don't want to give the lengthy explanation, and regardless, context will still be useless because the comedy relies on the WTF factor and self-aware humor... kinda like Scott's videos
@@TakeMinamoto I'm not denying good anime exists, just that the market is over saturated with overtly sexual, creepy, uncreative, semi-paedophilic garbage
@@hecticfreeze *eromanga sensei be like*
I mean most of these things are judged for being "for kids" because they're animated, if someone walked in on a dude watching a movie and a sex scene happened or a dude got fucking turned to a bloody pulp they wouldn't blink hard like they do with cartoons doing the same. It limits the potential of using animation to portray mature things in an artistic way that wouldn't be possible through live action.
But I do hate pointless sexualization because it gets old quickly. Usually the best rated animes aren't that tho, but someone has to go through garbage to find the gold, just like we need to dig through Adam Sandler movies to get to a Godfather.

As an expert on anime games, trying to ween yourself onto them with Tokyo Mirage Sessions is like trying to build up drug tolerance by snorting an entire keg of cocaine
If you wanna play an anime game dont trust tokyo mirage sessions its like wanting to take care of a baby so you give him to a physcotic drug dealer
As someone who loves TMS, I completely agree. It's so absurdly niche but also has some of my favorite turn based mechanics that I completely forgive that it commits my most hated sins in game design where reviving characters in battle is a thing, but MC getting KOed is an instant game over. Starting with a Fire Emblem, Warriors, Ni No Kuni, or any of the more standard 2D fighting games like the original DBZ Budokai (pref 3) or Naruto Ultimate Ninja (again, 3 is probably best, but all 4 PS2 games are solid) will be the best introduction, if you're entering it through gaming and Pokemon isn't an option. I hear modern Digimon games are really good too and Attack On Titan's got sick games (just don't get it on Switch)
If you want to get into anime, Avatar the last Airbender is a great start even if it may not be an anime technically. It’s great to ween you into the style and art form. I only watch JoJo and Avatar personally but if you want to
As an expert on drugs, a keg of cocaine is not a very good unit of cocaine, since it implies a volume rather than a weight.
agree, by the way for newbie, you just need a solid entry point, into the culture.

no wonder, he couldn't appreciate the great japanese Animation & games

God I actually don’t know what the hell it is
@@magix_7391 what are you talking about? almost none of the games don't have the fire emblem. gaiden, thracia 776, and SoV are the only games that lack it. it usually plays a very small and near inconsequential role (most notably in genealogy where it's an afterthought at best), but it's almost always there. hell, the games where the fire emblem plays a larger role are among the best-selling games in the franchise. the only reason why you think the games with the fire emblem sell the worst is because the franchise as a whole has sold incredibly poorly up until the last 10 years.
awakening (1.9 million copies): the fire emblem/binding shield is integral to the plot, and obtaining all the gemstones is a major goal of the shepherds.
fates (1.6 million copies, presumably across all three paths): the fire emblem (omega yato) is the ultimate form of corrin's personal weapon.
three houses (2.87 million copies): the crest of flames, while minor, is still relatively important.

What about our Frog Goddess Froppy?
Honestly, I don't think there's a single complaint against anime that couldn't be easily turned around on western animation. But nevertheless, both parts of the world have managed to produce both some of the worst and some of the greatest animated shows and movies of all time. So I try not to generalize based off the country of origin.
Very good point
Yeah! Both have really absurd shows (Jojo, SpongeBob, pop team epic, gumball), both have trash that people like for some reason (most harem anime, pretty much every family guy clone), and both have shows that really should be considered masterpieces! (Like most studio ghibli films, and spiderverse)
even as someone who likes anime, it can be really stiff and not as willing to break model as much, which has been changing a little bit. it's why I love Mob Psycho 100, and studio Trigger works so much, they maintain some of the sore aaestheric of anime while actually doing sisually interesting things with it.
I think the problem of getting into anime is that the medium seems contradictory when you try to look at it as a whole. On one hand a lot of popular anime is pretty conservative and unwilling to discuss particular taboos (which I'm guessing reflects Japan's societal values), which can leave a lot of them feeling frustratingly simple at times, but then so many feature controversial things like underage girls in very sexual situations, and incest, just SO MUCH incest, without really exploring the implications of them, it's mostly fanservice.
It's really hard to tar the majority of anime with the same brush. All of my favourite anime (The Promised Neverland S1, Erased, Toradora, Clannad, Demon Slayer, most of the Ghibli films) are ones that for the most part managed to avoid the weird typical anime stuff. But even they have stuff that I try to overlook (TPN's only black character being a literal Jim Crow era caricature for example, something that would never fly in the West). But I actively avoid a good 99% of the rest. Compare that to western animation, where I don't feel the need to filter out as much, because the average western cartoon doesn't feature a horny 15 year old girl lusting after her brother, but tbh after you've watched even one anime, most western cartoons looks extremely low budget.
@@goingunder2548 i keep saying this to people. anime isnt just what is popular. there are so many diferent genres, that chances are, if given a genuine shot, you will find at least 1 you will really like.

FINALLY A VIDEO MADE FOR THE WEEBS!!
"i still don't know what fire emblem means"
to be fair I don't either and I've played like five of them
Don't know if I should answer it seriously, but ever tried watching background at "press the start button" screen in Awakening? That shield? That is Fire Emblem in Archanea Series! Yato in Fates and Byleth's Crest in Houses. So, it's just strong godly artifact(or power if we speak about crest) that can be used for both good or bad.
@@Louis_Cyphriel I still don't know what one is
Fire Emblem is a name given to whatever object or idea is important at this very second, it's like 20 different things at this point
@@LadyofDread I believe it less then 10 because all Archanea saga have the same shield, 4 more "series" have one each and Fates and Houses have one each too, so like... 7 as for today? (if we ignore Mirage Sessions with their one)
@@Louis_Cyphriel I looked it up, and yeah, counting TMS it's 8. I was just generalizing, anyway.
I don't really understand why some people are completely uninterested in anime. Like, dang. Not a single series? I mean "spiky haired dude shouting" and "h0rny sh!t" are just scratching the surface of everything the media has to offer. But hey, there's only so much free time in a day, I totally get why people would want to spend that doing things that are familiar and comfortable. I also get young Scott's pickiness with animation. A lot of anime is produced on a tight budget and schedule. Hence, you to tend see some cut corners, i.e. mouths moving and literally nothing else.
Still, stepping out of your comfort zone can be really fun. I didn't think I'd like horror movies, but I've started watching them, and now I think they're great!
Especially as it covers so many niches there is always one. The animation budget part we all know well enough besides it being a different style to western animation in the way it's drawn too. But we all know the budget and staff situations.
I always love when outsiders critique the art. Not all are the same even in my first year new to the medium in 2014 but people think it is when it's not (always liked animation anyway and was getting tired of western shows, western animation and wanted a change, did the same with music tastes to EDM at the same time. I checked out anime when friends watched it in class and I understood the medium on my own no help researching the medium besides the big deal shounen shows on TV I'd see the 'air at such and such' on kids tv channels).
I could tell between old and new artstyles or the unique ones like PingPong for example. Nowadays I can tell 2010s to even 2020 styles. But I mean anime and cartoons kid or adult are really not supposed to be taken seriously. Why should animation be realistically constrained when it can go anywhere. Even western hentai exists people just block it from their mind. I mean one was a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style other's different and making the first of adult ratings of animated films even. I mean some particular Japan only things sure but others cover certain things so well that is broad the west doesn't even and I can always find a manga for it or anitubers point it out in another niche and emotionally relevant or contextually.
Even some anime besides their 'anime' moments end up being better than live action US shows I find for their serious and silly moments. I could not sit through the Apple TV game Dev show (I forget the name and subtitle is Raven's Banquet I think). But could both seasons and the manga of New Game that put effort into showing game development, programmer stuff I can relate to, game tests, their everyday life and while yes a Moeblob/cute girls doing cuts things scenes it's scenes like the employee badge worked and wasn't repeated, the your boss is lazy works while many audiences freaked out because it wasn't culturally appropriate even if it was justified of they live in the office not just underwear for the sake of it like ecchi series do. It covers even the Japanese game Dev side really well. Can they make a project in secret, what it's like in French than Japanese development studios, crunch during lead up to the game's release, getting the game at retail and not spoiling the game on launch day, among other little things and still knowing the cast in a what little things do they do like any slice of life series such as fighting over the aircon or going to see shounen stuff as a nerd and keeping the objects for reference besides seeing them use the software for 3D modelling. It's understandable to literally anyway even if no experience coding or modelling or whatever it's pretty good series. It's so good at handling it.
The other just wants to say we're cool, we make MMOs and games that update constantly what update do we want to push and rough game Dev design, play testing and so on that feels like Death Note Netflix live action bad in some cases. Sure some things are still valid and otherwise common tropes. I haven't seen the Office which I assume it may be inspired by but man I'd it's just as bad sigh. Never had issues with some workplace sitcoms though like Brooklyn 99 and binged it having never seen it at all besides recommended from a friend.
I mean how the Japanese ones makes it look engaging the other feels like your a teen watching it and its rad to make games in a fun office with an ongoing game. Compared to New Game having a JRPG, a disguises type stealth take on kids game and a newcomer in charge of the project being a risk for the company (a game per season) and in the manga a soccer/dodgeball game I forget). I mean sure Atari had fun in the 80s doing things besides making games but I mean I know they weren't mimicking that type of vibe but a modern gaming vibe and it's so jarring and unfunny at times with each episode both seasons. I'm proud to own the New Game Blu rays I wouldn't the other.
To me in some cases even with Japanese games some westerners are just ignorant like Japan is alien or WESTERN QUALITY IS SO GOOD for story and this and that (by that I mean even Australians that make nothing but will care for a UK/US game, figure that mentality out. If UK/US pride I get that and sure Japan can be stubborn too about NOT Japanese products but I mean seriously XD) heads up their butt mentality.
I mean sure but to me when Japan proves gameplay over the west in certain areas, old genres alive and doing their own thing (besides the Japanese to western flip since 3D gaming and western normalisation of games in the mainstream, the Japanese make fairly unique games like I thought games were supposed to while the west chases the next trend tail. So whenever the Japan makes innovative games comes up I always laugh. They claim it the west but the west does the same thing over and over (depends on the developer and the space not counting Indies by this of course) so it always makes me laugh. Says Japan makes innovation happen but that's it full stop. But if only a sizeable audience actually contributes to that and most of the audience in the gaming community doesn't care... Says something kind of besides people's fair preferences for what they want to play being totally fine.
I've watched trash and great shows to understand the medium and been fine with it. I wanted a change and was worth it. Even gaming now I have to branch out to genres as the current ones don't interest me as much so while others go with sequel to that Ubisoft game since PS3/360 I'd rather look to other game instead or long running series doing other things besides one off or genres I had never touched like hack n slashes, visual novels and so on but because I wanted to collect games too. Most people get too comfortable while I have the kid inside of me still.

Also Scott: somehow manages to get a copy of DBZ BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 3??? HUHHH
Still one of the best DBZ games to ever come out imo!
I recently found my old case for the game. It was empty...
Cyc0FlaZe I lost my original copy in 2007. Was about to drop like $70 bucks on it til I found this cool little thing called Free McBoot. Saved my life 😉
That game is rare now? Huh... Another one of those like Conker's Bad Fur Day that I used to see all over the shelves at Sam's Club for less than $10. Luckily I have this one.
Is it really? Well now I won't be getting back that copy I lost son of a bitch
Senor Bones Last time I checked at Gamestop, it was being sold used for over $60.
Luckily I have a modded Wii :)
The animation was an unexpected but pleasant surprise! I’m so glad you’re putting some of your revenue back into the videos. It really shows!
MY SUNDAYS FINALLY HAVE MEANING AGAIN!
Why does this sound like something Scott would say himself?
I always look forward to his video.
Couldn't agree more, while her was gone I watched all of his videos, twice

Damn I was worried Scott was retiring. But nay. He came back even stronger after a brief anime training montage available only on BluRay
Well the channel is split into series/season's essentially and he takes a break every 50 episodes.

That was the most incredible effort for someone who doesn't like anime, props to you and those animators!
1:17 I didn't know it was possible for a child to be picky about animation quality. I didn't even notice the difference between good and bad animation until I was a teenager. Toy Story 1 and 3 looked the same to me.

Since I don't see anyone who's done it, here's an attempt at translating the subtitles from the animation. Pretty much the best I could do.
- Ah, line of text
- You just done it, You really have just done it ("Virgin" on screen)
- You think you can input this into a translating website?
- This is kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese)
- I'm just typing stuff like this so I was probably able to copy each word into a line (?)
- However, who actually reads that?
- Tell me, who?
- Seriously everyone by no means reads Japanese subtitles (?)
- As if someone seriously would care about replacing the words
- See? (Spanish lol)
- There might be people who noticed but, huh
- If this tool is translating everything for you
- Ah, I can see anime is happening!

- Here Scott spits out a massive damage control (again)
- I recycled a different translation but, someone probably noticed? Pffffft

"Just because someone's not into something doesn't make them not respect it." this is very true. Well said Scott.
Now go play Fling smash and see if your conscience is clear.
This is true, but I think specifically picking games outside of the genres you personally enjoy to prove that point also shows something of a disrespect for it, or is at least a back handed compliment. It's like "I hate cake, and I'm allergic to chocolate, so to prove I don't like cake, I'm gonna eat a ton of different chocolate cakes". Dude should've just played Bloodstained or Gunvolt for platformers, or any of the more classic 2D style fighters like DBZ Budokai 3 (very different from Budokai Tenkaichi 3). Heck, I'm sure some hack and slash games could've entertained him some even if just for a bit, I know some people get bored with that stuff. Heck, Zelda's super anime and he seems to like that franchise, so this seems a bit disingenuous, even if it is a hilarious video, lol
@@Chronoflation I mean you're not wrong but the term Anime also carries an unfortunate ... stigma with it. Most people think DBZ or Akiba's Trip. They tend to forget Zelda, every megaman game and final fantasy fit under this umbrella as well. Though he also did say he's not an rpg guy it would do good to realize Megaman is a platformer for 90% of it's games. I'll give him credit for trying the other more out there games but there's a line that should never be crossed. On that note I would like to know his honest opinion on the bakugan game.
There are some very intellectual conversations on this channel
@@anasiss1992 Hahaha, true, he never did talk about his opinion on it. He just used it as a joke for other games. I wonder how that one turned out. He should also try that Fossil Frontier series. I heard it's like Pokemon, only you go exploring and find fossils to bring back to life to battle with. Maybe he'd find that more enjoyable lol. I'd love to see him do a part 2 and actually go for the entry level weeb stuff. I mean, DBZ Budokai 3 was a great 2D arena fighter
