you know I have other stuff I'm supposed to be learning but my boyfriend is hell bent that I play this cover with you I'm thinking 2 millions times a day. Not sure if he likes the drumming your doing or the drumming I'm trying to do and all the "crap I messed up" things I say. I see my crush Gray Ghost is a fan as well. You both rock! I follow both of you guys and your covers, helps me (except ofcourse the boyfriend pound cake obsession). Peace and thank you for the help :)
Funny comment...although it took me two years to finally see it. Don't give your boyfriend any flak...this song ROCKS and it's worth listening 2 million times a day!!! LOL!!! Thanks for your support!
Great playing Steve! May I suggest hitting 2 separate crashes during the down beat so it doesn't choke the cymbal. It would be cool to open the hats a little more to get that "lush" sound. Your kit sounds wicked and i love the sound of your cymbals too. Any chance we can get a run down description of your rigs?
Thanks for the great suggestions and compliments! Regarding my rig, it's a mishmash of old gear. The drums are Yamaha Stage Customs that were my "road kit" for many years (20" kick, 10"-12"-14" toms, 14" x 4" Yamaha Birch snare). I haven't changed the kick and tom heads in 12+ years. The two crashes are cheap Wuhan's ($70 each). The ride is a 22" Constantinople. The other ride is a 20" Meinl Byzance Dry. The drum mics are also a bunch of old stuff--mostly SM 57's. I mix the drum mics and the original track (from my iPhone) through an old Yamaha MG 16 board. The audio from the board goes directly into a Zoom Q4 camera. I don't use any audio processing or post-production--everything goes "live" directly to the camera. The whole set up is relatively low tech but very simple to record, which is why I have so many drum covers (300+). Thanks again!!!!
