It was only years later that a straight, neutral back started to be recommended for these kinds of exercises.
Yep and the oldschool was right, for optimal spine health you need to do some form of exercise to train the spinal erectors dynamically and make the body build stronger connective tissues like the ligaments and even spinal discs(yes the discs get stronger from exercise).

Almost all so called trainers that have not seriously trained themselves, will tell you not to do your rows like that. The same with seated rows. All they want you to do is sit there and move your arms. Of course they don't have lats like the old timers did either. Old school has a lot going for it. I have been lucky enough to see many champion bodybuilders train and they don't train like they teach trainers in school.
The thing about trying to do exercises like these elite bodybuilders, is everybody is built differently, with various limb lengths, leverages, and levels of flexibility. You performing a row exactly like Arnold may result in you getting hurt, or not getting ideal muscle activation, despite this working well for Arnold
This is how you get ideal muscle activation in all your back muscles, but you have to start with very low weights and slowly work yourself upwards over many training sessions if you've never done these or trained your spine dynamically. Originally rows got their name from the fact that you tried to imitate the same motion you do when rowing a boat, and that is typically always done with a flexed spine which you extend all the way back each time you row.
Not necessarily. There is such thing as the greats or legendary people. Michael Jordan has been retired for some time now but he's still regarded as one of the best if not the best regardless of others who have come after him.

He has been an inspiration for other bodybuilders for years...and a youth icon and a superstar.....all these years of his life.he has lived his life to the fullest that others only pine for......
My lower back is hurting watching this
Form and the art of bodybuilding has improved over the years. Totally pointless to comment on Arnold's form from the early 70's. This is what we knew back then.
I did this and the results are amazing thank you Arnold
Total reps perfect technique from the king of bb ❤🇬🇷
My back is hurting just by watching this
even the last place of these classic olympias has far superior physique than any of the modern mr. o's..... period!
SwampySack complete bullshit .. the dudes placing last in Arnolds day looked natty AF
Bro i was just working out and looking for some soundtrip in yt and this just shows up, men you gonna get motivated by arnold and especially when he says” let’s get serious”
I love that he’s lifting barefooted
The most knowledgeable doctor/engineer/scientist/anything in the world 50 years ago wouldn't be today. This is no different.
Do we breathe in on pull or push
For those who dont know, back than a rounded back was recommended! In fact you can find several pictures of Arnold and others from his era doing this and other exercises with a well rounded back. It was only years later that a straight, neutral back started to be recommended for these kinds of exercises.
Theres no such thing as straight and neutral.
@@matthewbentley3122 Form is a spectrum.
Yep and the oldschool was right, for optimal spine health you need to do some form of exercise to train the spinal erectors dynamically and make the body build stronger connective tissues like the ligaments and even spinal discs(yes the discs get stronger from exercise).
Hey musclepharm, how does it feel to be dropped by Arnold after discovering you were lying about what's in your product?
I bet they were making a LOT of money for a while though. That owner did get some good interviews/info from Arnold too, plus these rare Pumping Iron outtakes.
@No Go Shame how an icon became such a woke liberal.
@@user_harddrive he's literally a conservative. If you feel attacked to this level by something he stands against and resort to that you're just an asshole with a guilty conscience.
@@user_harddrive He's was a republican governor, so your 'woke liberal' bs comment doesn't even apply here. Arnold respects the sport of strength and muscle building, he's not going to put up with supplement companies lying to him and his followers about what's in their product.
And if he's really an icon, like YOU said, then maybe YOU should be following his example.
@@tonynunez1352 "He's was a republican governor" nice grammar moron. Notice how you said "was"... he's a fucking liberal now. Just like Mitt Romney, John McCain, etc.
i think what went wrong is that judges started judging body builders by how much muscle they can put on rather than the overall aesthetic.
Nossa show de bola cara do tempo difíceis era tudo na raça,hj quase tudo na mão 💪🙏borá lá
The King of the King 🥇🏆🦁Imagina se tivesse 19 anos nos dias de hoje!! Ganharia todos os anos o Mr.Olímpia💪🏻
12 reps with such a heavy load... only Arnie
Never mind it is a wrong or correct form all it's like "mind muscle connection"
Arnold, the only human who is allowed to train in any gym without shoes on
The thing about trying to do exercises like these elite bodybuilders, is everybody is built differently, with various limb lengths, leverages, and levels of flexibility.
Exemplo eterno...
Hard work pays off here, guys. And without a back-belt. I couldn't do it without one. Heck, not even all that weight combined.
LMAO to all the people trying to critique ARNOLD'S form
Appeal to authority
40 years after his last contest, Arnold is still the most popular figure in bodybuilding. Proof that the sport is dying.
Not necessarily. There is such thing as the greats or legendary people. Michael Jordan has been retired for some time now but he's still regarded as one of the best if not the best regardless of others who have come after him.
I wonder what this comment section would look like if this was Phil Heath using this form rather than Arnold
Back when men lifted like men. Bare foot, no head phones, ear buds, gloves. Just savage lifting.
Nude.
I need earbuds to drown out the awful music playing on the loud speakers, else I wouldn't be able to set foot in a gym.
this comment is beyond stupid 💀 so if you wear shoes, use gloves to protect your hands and listen to music while minding your own business makes you less of a man now? Foh.
@@bshaun true and I think I also need to switch to earbuds because the wires sometimes get in the way.
@@hoebihoebi2536 protect your hands 🤣 do you apply moisturiser daily?
R.I.P. Rich 5%er Piana @ 46 years of age.
Instructer's "come on" word is actually very helpful.
When his arms come near his legs, the legs look very small.
Who says you need tree trunk legs tho? I personally never dug the Ronnie Coleman X shaped look. Classic V looks much more aesthetic.
Paul bullshit! Being aesthetic is not an excuse for having shit legs
He hardly has shit legs
Heiliger Jesus
Arnold’s legs are far from shit mate.
Ricardo Hernández who the hell are you to criticize a Mr. Olympia anyway? Oh yeah you're a nobody
