He is arguably one of the best role players I've ever seen. He is an incredible Storyteller. Dimension 20 is amazing. Fantasy high is both very funny and also extremely well-written.
When he is a player character he only has to focus on his character... so he puts that amazing brain of his 100% into just how to get the most out of it, and it's terrifying!
I don’t think the other actors get enough praise, Annabelle, Temple, and Nelly do a phenomenal job emoting and improvising! Especially Temple and Nelly with their setups and contingencies
Adrian is one of the best additions in the entire series. He has a strong voice, powerful presence, great one liners and awesome charisma. I don't remeber a "priest" role played so perfectly since Paul Dano in "There will be blood" (2007). This was a great season and I thank you all for it !
In TTRPGs, it's often said the worst thing you can do is kill a character. A lot of GMs will default to the 'worst possible outcome' when someone critically fails the way Erika did, and might have had something anticlimactic like "you stake X," "the cross breaks and you fall down, lose your next turn," or worse, "you stake yourself." But the way this unfolded - the way Annabelle took her first life, and the way Adrian broke her with a phrase that will stay with her for the rest of her nights - that's a punishment far, FAR worse than death.
Yeah I was really hoping for Annabelle to find Golconda when it was first hinted Adrian knew about it... but it's a game of personal horror, and what worse horror is there than to miss your one chance at redemption and start down the path to damnation?
I was surprised by the ruling, I don't understand the ST's reasoning. When the ST asked Annabelle what was her intention with the stake, she didn't respond, so it's possible she aimed to kill Adrian and got him despite the double bestial failure. She was very hungry and under her clan compulsion, so I really wanted to hear her intention when trying to stake Adrian before the ruling was given
Brennan and Erika are always great at bouncing stuff off each other, but man, this X guy is doing great! His manic, unstable energy is really keeping up with these two amazing improv actors.

Watching Victor try to keep it together without Campbell and the boys at his side, is like watching an exiled King wandering his former realm, forlorn but with a quiet rage bubbling inside. If anyone has seen Journey's End in Doctor Who, Adrian's death echoes Davros' words: "How many more, just think, how many more will die in your name? This is my final victory - I have shown you yourself".
I feel this so much… and it’s really bad for me cause… I’m Catholic… everything in me is going ok, he’s terrible, and even if he wasn’t the clerical collar is an immediate no… but damn if something about that smug smirk wasn’t appealing. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, characters played by Brennan automatically up their charisma stats just by virtue of having Brennan playing them.
there's a real beauty and a little bit of irony to Adrian and Brennan's performance (though tbh it does make me wonder if that was intentional whether on Adrian or Brennan's part) of all his convictions and belief's and hope into Annabelle being a "miracle" having never taken a life even though she is kindred, he ended up being the catalyst of sending her down the path by forcing her to kill, which is a incredible way of adding to the overall story and her character given a lot of us have been waiting for her to do something like it all this time and the way everyone involved created it, is amazing.

With one episode to go i have to say jasper has been continuesly been my favourite. I adore him, his actor, its amazing. The subtle nuances, the way he carries himself, his and annabelles relationship. Imma miss my boy :(
I like how Annabelle thinks the inquisition might stop now that she's left a priest pinned to a wall with a huge crucifix. That's totally not the kind of thing that would inspire a monster hunting organisation to increase their efforts

I needed to go back and rewatch Beckett's introduction in VtMB in order to check if he was the voice actor for the character in that installment. Turns out he isn't, but he is so goddamn close it's just uncanny! There was no better fit for an actor to play him than dear old Matt. Absolutely outstanding casting!
Time flew by so fast. We have one last episode to go guys, the final finale. The series finale, I'm so sad but I'm grateful for the cast and crew for sharing their characters tales with us. Now with the praise out of the way. My word! Matt was amazing as Beckett. Jeva might be blood bonded to each other and it sounds like not a good thing and I fear for that ending. Jasper and Beckett bonding isn't something I thought was ever going to happen and when it did, I couldn't take my eyes off of them. ANNABELLE FINALLY KILLED SOMEONE AND FEELS SHIT ABOUT IT, I've always wanted that to happen sorry.
Man this episode was absolutely incredible! Matt Mercer as Beckett! *chefs kiss*. I am glad Jeva are somewhat doing alright now, and the way Jasper put his foot down with Victor I am like daaaaaamn. There was just so so much happening its like whoa! Amazing job to all the cast in tonight's episode. I will be said that this will be ending very soon, but it is never truly the end for the Vamily.

God Adrian was such an amazing villain (great as always Brennan!) I only wish more villains like this showed up in LA by Night. But alas a great series is now coming to a close.
This episode is straight holy fire. Beckett was the best character introduced in this season seconded by Nines and Janine. Awesome job with casting. This entire series provides more entertainment than all of UA-cam combined. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Bravo to all involved.

Lots of great RP this episode, but, to borrow the phrase, Victor, mah boi, we finally saw what happens when this Ventrue sheds his undad persona, drops the pretence, and has had enough of this shit. The arrival at the facility and Victor declaring that he would dominate any and all soldiers coming near wasn't a question wether or not it could happen. It was stated as history, as faît accompli. B. Dave Walters, you RP'd a businessman, who grew into a king. Bravo!
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised with all those Beastial Failures that Anabelle had, that she didn't accidently stake X in the process with the cross. After all, he was technically behind him trying to rip his head off. Part of me slightly disappointed as I think it would have been a very proper tragedy.
Me too, i think jason confused bestial failure for a messy critical... it makes no sense, she failed miserably the strenght check and still kills the enemy??
@@GabrielLima-ny6oe I think because Adrian wasn't trying to avoid it, he was just gonna except it, Annabelle was probably not actually attempting to kill him. (That is not her MO) But instead she lost control, so instead see basically overshoots the non violent killing epically, she took two aggravated damage and basically succumbs to her rage and does full on maximum violence, something she has tried to avoid.
When does Annabelle ever get consequences that matter? So far she has two lovers she got to turn, a lead role in the anarch movement, and somehow still has high humanity.
Does anyone agree, that Annabelle’s Beast voice should totally shift to that of Adrian’s after everything that just went down? ( I do recognize that this comment is very much put out there after many years since the episode was originally released, but I’m curious as to what people think regarding this).
Beckett has seen weirder things and really doesn't hold any political affiliation. Note: Beckett is an elder and powerful. He's able to do all this because he's strong. But, he's made some really scary enemies.
The fatal mistake Adrian made was focussing on Annabelle as some sort of special vampire. He put her on a pedestal like a pet project that denied her the humanity of vamily and vriendship, showing his pride and lack of empathy. If a human had their only friends set for extermination I'm sure they would act desperately too. That being said, I hope the final episode shows changes to Annabelle's psyche and maybe Humanity, to show character development into her next exciting chapter.
AMAZING episode! I feel like Erika doesn’t get enough credit for her performance, she did an AMAZING job! The scene with her somber cry after her first kill was heart wrenching. ALSO, shout to Nelly for the GREAT job of contingencies and call back. Like Abram’s gift and Temple for the amazing contingencies and narrative play great in saving the Carver’s message for Annabelle for a great character interaction
This scene definitely carried a lot of emotional weight especially for Annabelle. Her emotional outburst was perfect for this scene. She finally killed someone and it basically broke her perfect track record and that can never be undone. She sounded like part of her soul died. Bennani's response was perfect. I've seen people in comments giving Annabelle a hard time about being too emotional but I wish I had players that were willing to get this into character. I say it is better to be too emotional than than enough. She brings a lot of life to the scenes that she is in. Sure she does stumble in some scenes when she cannot think of what to say but that is true for all of us. There is no script for this it is all thought up off the top of your head. She has to convincingly pull off this stuff in one take. That is impressive and it is bold to even attempt it. Keep up the great work Erika I appreciate you.
Nice to someone actually giving Erika the props she deserves. Annabelle, the character, gets on my nerves because of her indecisiveness and because her outlook is often too emotional and irrational. She's clinging to her false self-image desperately and is incredibly naïve about the reality of what unlife with very vocal inner demons holds in store for her over the fullness of time. Erika Ishii does a wonderful job of portraying an idealist who is slowly and painfully being corrupted by the very nature of unlife in the World of Darkness.
@@rehecke7124 I like Annabelle for those reasons though. I think some people would try to cling to their self image. Not everyone would be able to jump with both feet into being a kindred now. Their lives have completely changed and that adjustment would take time for most people. Victor, Nellie and Jasper had already adjusted before episode 1 so we don't know how they handled it at first but if Annabelle just adjusted right away without any difficulty it would have made her character less interesting. I would be honored to have an player like Erica at my table. I am aware that isn't going to be a popular point of view however. Most people would find it annoying to have a character that gets emotional at the table.

She is trying to accept the loss of her old life while at the same time standing up for what she used to stand up for. She is honestly an extremely dynamic character. And she maintained her now kill streak longer than I could have. And having zero kills is an impossible stand in this world. There is no shame in only having one kill. Honestly is damn near miraculous.
What can I say, but holy shit (pun 100% intended). I am floored. What an incredible episode; this is some of the best roleplaying I've seen and I can't wait for what's next!
im finally catching up with these last few episodes of season 5. that exchange at the midway point there, man oh MAN The will of god, the narrative weight of the rolls, MAN yall are so good at this and its so satisfying to see the dice back up the story. holy moly, the Traveller got serious! and Fangs! but seriously, that was a massive exciting and amazing story we have been privileged to watch unfold. the quality of the acting has been great, the story has been brilliant and damn im happy to have felt all of it
I'll admit I have had a pretty limited exposure to the hunters. So when Adrian uses one of his abilities I am often surprised just how powerful he is. Adrian is a stone cold badass. He is evil as can be but he is convinced he is backed by a god. His zealotry makes him one of the most dangerous villains I have seen in some time.
@@repthe21st66 Exactly. If anything, we can say he's a hypocrite (to a lesser extent than the rest of the SI) and a zealot, but not exactly "evil". The vampires here are mostly the bad guys, but since we spend time with them, our perspective is shifted. Every single one of them did something terrible during their unlife, just in this campaign. Jasper and his antics with using newly embraced (by him nonetheless) kindred as a larder and accidental killings. Eva burned a whole squad to death and caused an earthquake that could kill people. X is murderous when he snaps. Nelli and Victor casually take away others freedom, either by manipulation or by making them ghouls, not to mention they killed people. Even Annabelle, the one who believes in personal freedom, made a ghoul out of a person she cares about, which is imo one of the most hypocritical things here. From a bystanders' perspective - we have a group of monsters who are mostly not against murder, create slaves and desire control and a religious organization who tries to get rid of them with Adrian - the one who believes some can be saved so much he's willing to become a heretic to do that. Just the perspective portrays these monsters as lovable and genuine people.
@@repthe21st66 Dishonorable, ruthless, and even cruel. But Evil? Adrian said it best when Anabelle accused him of going for everyone she loved, all her friends. Her friends are monsters and murderers. She chose that over being good, and in the end became a monster herself rather than not even standing against her friends and their monstrous actions but merely leaving them behind to save herself. The "good" man who does nothing.
I adore and support a lot of streams/shows, but this was the one I love the most. I wish it was ongoing, but I cannot complain. I look forward to rewatching all of this with regularity.
This episode was certainly entertaining. I just feel it would've been great for Adrian to have more time as the main antagonist. I thought the coterie would eventually confront him as a group, and that something huge would happen, maybe an ultimate demonstration of his True Faith. His death scene was intense, but it did not feel... epic (as it had potential to be). But that's absolutely ok, of course. Everyone is delivering quality entertainment to us, despite my personal expectations. 😊 It would be a nice touch if Adrian eventually becomes the persona of Annabelle's Beast, though. 🤔
Well, there's always the (very) slight chance that he was secretly Sabaat this entire time, and the metal and wood crucifix just put him into torpor. (Not what I think happened, but just an outlying possibility. It'd be cool at least, and there's enough mystery left about him for it to be plausible. Could explain why the coalition performed the first operation at night. And Elijah being his ghoul would explain why his will was able to overcome Annabelle's vampiric control over him.) Personally, I thought his death scene was kinda awesome. But I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed about the character dying here. I know that the next episode is the series finale, but Adrian was a fascinating enough character that I'd hoped he'd survive to show up in another series at some point in the future. He's a good enough villain that it would have been cool to just have him continue to be part of the lore and any future stories.
I kind of like how Adrian died. He was a more merciful and kind agent of the second inquisition. Most of the time they don't send envoys first.The next time the second inquisition comes they will be less forgiving.
Erika is great in the scene exp. Props to the actor (sorry can't think of his name right now) who played Adrian. It was really cool to see the extra mile in his death seen as he bit into whatever he used for the blood.
Adrian's death definitely was his own fault, he almost convinced Annabelle at the start but then he took the worst options possible. If her friends lifes weren't in danger and he was less religous and more technical while talking to her she would have listened. She doesn't like the Camarilla but she also dislike the Barons, she only likes Victor and Nelli because she sees them as more them Barons and because they have become (just a little) better people with her influence and Jasper's view of the world is very similar to the Inquisition. Everything that the kindreds are afraid of is exactly what Annabelle is fighting against, they are afraid of the Cam, of the Barons, of the Inquisition, of losing themselves to the Beast. She wanted to create a democracy and to not allow the killing humans, if Adrian supported her revolt while being less religious while keep talking about her good morals and how this inspires people to be better he would have conquisted her. His faith lead him to take actions that ultimately destroyed what his faith was trying to achieve. It isn't Annabelle's fault, her friends were dying and this pompous man was saying how all of this was God's work that she MUST'VE followed. I am sorry, but he needed to manipulate people better, he was evil and just because he knew it he thought it would justify his own stupidity. It wasn't Annabelle's Beast that killed Adrian, it was her Humanity. Humans would have killed him there and before and after that, he gave her a human choice and she chose it like a human, she isn't a monster, he forced her to save her family in a brutal way. She can be saved, not by Adrian, God or Inquisition but by herself because she is in fact a good person even after a very bad act
I love how the character's do thought Beckett was a myth, similar to how Dracula is in modern kindred world. LOL We finally get to see him, and played by Matt Mercer as well. LOVELY!
I was engaged throughout the episode. I would have loved Beckett to share some piece of info, but also get that it was a bit of a wrap-up scene. Bravo.
As someone who headcanoned my VTMB Gangrel having a massive crush on Beckett, I'm one very happy Gangrel right now 😁In terms of presentation, he was spot on, imo. In terms of character, it's hard to say with just a cameo, and I'd very much like to see him somewhere as an active player.
As someone who has watched the whole series, I was rooting for Adrian. Mostly for him to convince Annabelle that he was right, because he was, but I guess it makes sense that her fatal flaw is not trusting systems and he is part of a big one. I also would have found it very fitting if he destroyed her and X once she decided to attack.
Adrian was a true believer, so placing himself at the mercy of God seemed fitting. But I don't think he was right in a universal sense. He was only right inside a paradigm that is as black-and-white as his.
He was only "right" in the sense of diagnosing her issue, and I'd argue he was only able to do so because he has the same issue: single-minded zealotry.
She doesn't trust systems but she's trying to overthrow a system to implement a better system lmao I love Erika, but Annabelle as a character is insufferable, it's why I can't stand the majority of Brujah
Glad to see I'm not the only one who got frustrated with Annabelle. While Erika did a great job portraying the character, it always felt like Annabelle as character was always making grandiose speeches which ignored important points or actively made decisions that just made things worse and patted herself on the back for a job well done. Like using Adrian as an example, she often kept going back to making grand speeches about how corrupt the Catholic Church was, even though Adrian said multiple time that he was no longer affiliated with them. The thin-bloods are a great example of her making something worse, but patting herself on the back for the outcome. They were keeping themselves secret and living their lives as best they could, she made all these speeches about how they should have a safe home and in the end they're diablerizing all sorts of folks to become stronger and she acts like its a victory. In the end she admits she doesn't know what they'll replace the system with, but STILL is determined to tear it down anyways. Some folks might think that it's showing her willingness to admit she doesn't know the answer, but all this shows is despite all of the pain people went through and deaths that happened, that she refuses to learn any sort of lesson from this whole ordeal.

A magnificent performance by Brennan Lee Mulligan, a very nice cameo by Matthew Mercer, and epic and rapid rescue mission, some big changes coming to Los Angeles, and the vamily, really, what's there not to like? You did a fantastic job, all of you ^_^
A little over a year ago, I sliced off a finger tip at work. I remember that pain well. Eva slicing off her fingertips made all ten of my fingers curl and made me cringe!
I feel bad for Adrian, he was right, vampires are monsters and he really tried to guide Annabelle to Golconda. He could have really tried to kill Anabelle so many times, and honestly as a vampire, following the golconda, survive the guilt and walk again under the sun or just goung Sabbat feel like the two most honest options, wich acknowledge the beast they are and the harm they cause to society of humans. Ultimately, the Inquisition is right, vampires are a curse on humanity.
He’s a murderous psychopath who kills things he doesn’t even know well, also having religious fanaticism doesn’t help. He’s right about characters like Nelle though, in Camarilla society she would be dead for diablerie and rightfully so.

Brennan Lee Mulligan is a VISION to watch playing as this seemingly unflappable character.

I feel this so much… and it’s really bad for me cause… I’m Catholic… everything in me is going ok, he’s terrible, and even if he wasn’t the clerical collar is an immediate no… but damn if something about that smug smirk wasn’t appealing. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, characters played by Brennan automatically up their charisma stats just by virtue of having Brennan playing them.

there's a real beauty and a little bit of irony to Adrian and Brennan's performance (though tbh it does make me wonder if that was intentional whether on Adrian or Brennan's part) of all his convictions and belief's and hope into Annabelle being a "miracle" having never taken a life even though she is kindred, he ended up being the catalyst of sending her down the path by forcing her to kill, which is a incredible way of adding to the overall story and her character given a lot of us have been waiting for her to do something like it all this time and the way everyone involved created it, is amazing.

I needed to go back and rewatch Beckett's introduction in VtMB in order to check if he was the voice actor for the character in that installment. Turns out he isn't, but he is so goddamn close it's just uncanny! There was no better fit for an actor to play him than dear old Matt. Absolutely outstanding casting!
Time flew by so fast. We have one last episode to go guys, the final finale. The series finale, I'm so sad but I'm grateful for the cast and crew for sharing their characters tales with us.
Now with the praise out of the way. My word! Matt was amazing as Beckett. Jeva might be blood bonded to each other and it sounds like not a good thing and I fear for that ending. Jasper and Beckett bonding isn't something I thought was ever going to happen and when it did, I couldn't take my eyes off of them. ANNABELLE FINALLY KILLED SOMEONE AND FEELS SHIT ABOUT IT, I've always wanted that to happen sorry.

Lots of great RP this episode, but, to borrow the phrase, Victor, mah boi, we finally saw what happens when this Ventrue sheds his undad persona, drops the pretence, and has had enough of this shit. The arrival at the facility and Victor declaring that he would dominate any and all soldiers coming near wasn't a question wether or not it could happen. It was stated as history, as faît accompli. B. Dave Walters, you RP'd a businessman, who grew into a king. Bravo!

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised with all those Beastial Failures that Anabelle had, that she didn't accidently stake X in the process with the cross. After all, he was technically behind him trying to rip his head off. Part of me slightly disappointed as I think it would have been a very proper tragedy.

(That is not her MO) But instead she lost control, so instead see basically overshoots the non violent killing epically, she took two aggravated damage and basically succumbs to her rage and does full on maximum violence, something she has tried to avoid.

Beckett has seen weirder things and really doesn't hold any political affiliation. Note: Beckett is an elder and powerful. He's able to do all this because he's strong. But, he's made some really scary enemies.

The fatal mistake Adrian made was focussing on Annabelle as some sort of special vampire. He put her on a pedestal like a pet project that denied her the humanity of vamily and vriendship, showing his pride and lack of empathy. If a human had their only friends set for extermination I'm sure they would act desperately too.
That being said, I hope the final episode shows changes to Annabelle's psyche and maybe Humanity, to show character development into her next exciting chapter.
Gotta wonder if Adrian is bound for Wraith the Oblivion.

AMAZING episode! I feel like Erika doesn’t get enough credit for her performance, she did an AMAZING job! The scene with her somber cry after her first kill was heart wrenching. ALSO, shout to Nelly for the GREAT job of contingencies and call back. Like Abram’s gift and Temple for the amazing contingencies and narrative play great in saving the Carver’s message for Annabelle for a great character interaction
This scene definitely carried a lot of emotional weight especially for Annabelle. Her emotional outburst was perfect for this scene. She finally killed someone and it basically broke her perfect track record and that can never be undone. She sounded like part of her soul died. Bennani's response was perfect. I've seen people in comments giving Annabelle a hard time about being too emotional but I wish I had players that were willing to get this into character. I say it is better to be too emotional than than enough. She brings a lot of life to the scenes that she is in. Sure she does stumble in some scenes when she cannot think of what to say but that is true for all of us. There is no script for this it is all thought up off the top of your head. She has to convincingly pull off this stuff in one take. That is impressive and it is bold to even attempt it. Keep up the great work Erika I appreciate you.

Nice to someone actually giving Erika the props she deserves. Annabelle, the character, gets on my nerves because of her indecisiveness and because her outlook is often too emotional and irrational. She's clinging to her false self-image desperately and is incredibly naïve about the reality of what unlife with very vocal inner demons holds in store for her over the fullness of time.
Erika Ishii does a wonderful job of portraying an idealist who is slowly and painfully being corrupted by the very nature of unlife in the World of Darkness.
@@rehecke7124 I like Annabelle for those reasons though. I think some people would try to cling to their self image. Not everyone would be able to jump with both feet into being a kindred now. Their lives have completely changed and that adjustment would take time for most people. Victor, Nellie and Jasper had already adjusted before episode 1 so we don't know how they handled it at first but if Annabelle just adjusted right away without any difficulty it would have made her character less interesting. I would be honored to have an player like Erica at my table. I am aware that isn't going to be a popular point of view however. Most people would find it annoying to have a character that gets emotional at the table.
Its a shame, the only thing she had going on for me was her complete no kill streak

She is honestly an extremely dynamic character.
And she maintained her now kill streak longer than I could have. And having zero kills is an impossible stand in this world. There is no shame in only having one kill. Honestly is damn near miraculous.
What can I say, but holy shit (pun 100% intended). I am floored. What an incredible episode; this is some of the best roleplaying I've seen and I can't wait for what's next!

idk if it's the extremism or that Adrian is just so well spoken but I'm lowkey in love.
Brennan tends to have that effect on people.
I'll admit I have had a pretty limited exposure to the hunters. So when Adrian uses one of his abilities I am often surprised just how powerful he is. Adrian is a stone cold badass. He is evil as can be but he is convinced he is backed by a god. His zealotry makes him one of the most dangerous villains I have seen in some time.

@@repthe21st66 Exactly. If anything, we can say he's a hypocrite (to a lesser extent than the rest of the SI) and a zealot, but not exactly "evil".
The vampires here are mostly the bad guys, but since we spend time with them, our perspective is shifted. Every single one of them did something terrible during their unlife, just in this campaign. Jasper and his antics with using newly embraced (by him nonetheless) kindred as a larder and accidental killings. Eva burned a whole squad to death and caused an earthquake that could kill people. X is murderous when he snaps. Nelli and Victor casually take away others freedom, either by manipulation or by making them ghouls, not to mention they killed people. Even Annabelle, the one who believes in personal freedom, made a ghoul out of a person she cares about, which is imo one of the most hypocritical things here.
From a bystanders' perspective - we have a group of monsters who are mostly not against murder, create slaves and desire control and a religious organization who tries to get rid of them with Adrian - the one who believes some can be saved so much he's willing to become a heretic to do that. Just the perspective portrays these monsters as lovable and genuine people.
@@repthe21st66 Dishonorable, ruthless, and even cruel. But Evil? Adrian said it best when Anabelle accused him of going for everyone she loved, all her friends. Her friends are monsters and murderers. She chose that over being good, and in the end became a monster herself rather than not even standing against her friends and their monstrous actions but merely leaving them behind to save herself. The "good" man who does nothing.
I adore and support a lot of streams/shows, but this was the one I love the most. I wish it was ongoing, but I cannot complain. I look forward to rewatching all of this with regularity.
Annabelle has finally done it, and now the slide into madness shall truly begin.
This episode was certainly entertaining. I just feel it would've been great for Adrian to have more time as the main antagonist. I thought the coterie would eventually confront him as a group, and that something huge would happen, maybe an ultimate demonstration of his True Faith. His death scene was intense, but it did not feel... epic (as it had potential to be).
But that's absolutely ok, of course. Everyone is delivering quality entertainment to us, despite my personal expectations. 😊
It would be a nice touch if Adrian eventually becomes the persona of Annabelle's Beast, though. 🤔
Well, there's always the (very) slight chance that he was secretly Sabaat this entire time, and the metal and wood crucifix just put him into torpor.
(Not what I think happened, but just an outlying possibility. It'd be cool at least, and there's enough mystery left about him for it to be plausible. Could explain why the coalition performed the first operation at night. And Elijah being his ghoul would explain why his will was able to overcome Annabelle's vampiric control over him.)
Personally, I thought his death scene was kinda awesome. But I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed about the character dying here. I know that the next episode is the series finale, but Adrian was a fascinating enough character that I'd hoped he'd survive to show up in another series at some point in the future. He's a good enough villain that it would have been cool to just have him continue to be part of the lore and any future stories.
I kind of like how Adrian died. He was a more merciful and kind agent of the second inquisition. Most of the time they don't send envoys first.The next time the second inquisition comes they will be less forgiving.

Adrian's death definitely was his own fault, he almost convinced Annabelle at the start but then he took the worst options possible. If her friends lifes weren't in danger and he was less religous and more technical while talking to her she would have listened. She doesn't like the Camarilla but she also dislike the Barons, she only likes Victor and Nelli because she sees them as more them Barons and because they have become (just a little) better people with her influence and Jasper's view of the world is very similar to the Inquisition.
Everything that the kindreds are afraid of is exactly what Annabelle is fighting against, they are afraid of the Cam, of the Barons, of the Inquisition, of losing themselves to the Beast. She wanted to create a democracy and to not allow the killing humans, if Adrian supported her revolt while being less religious while keep talking about her good morals and how this inspires people to be better he would have conquisted her. His faith lead him to take actions that ultimately destroyed what his faith was trying to achieve.
It isn't Annabelle's fault, her friends were dying and this pompous man was saying how all of this was God's work that she MUST'VE followed. I am sorry, but he needed to manipulate people better, he was evil and just because he knew it he thought it would justify his own stupidity.
It wasn't Annabelle's Beast that killed Adrian, it was her Humanity. Humans would have killed him there and before and after that, he gave her a human choice and she chose it like a human, she isn't a monster, he forced her to save her family in a brutal way. She can be saved, not by Adrian, God or Inquisition but by herself because she is in fact a good person even after a very bad act
This season is rocking so hard. I have to keep reminding myself this is improv.
I love how the character's do thought Beckett was a myth, similar to how Dracula is in modern kindred world. LOL We finally get to see him, and played by Matt Mercer as well. LOVELY!

I was engaged throughout the episode. I would have loved Beckett to share some piece of info, but also get that it was a bit of a wrap-up scene. Bravo.
As someone who headcanoned my VTMB Gangrel having a massive crush on Beckett, I'm one very happy Gangrel right now 😁In terms of presentation, he was spot on, imo. In terms of character, it's hard to say with just a cameo, and I'd very much like to see him somewhere as an active player.
As someone who has watched the whole series, I was rooting for Adrian. Mostly for him to convince Annabelle that he was right, because he was, but I guess it makes sense that her fatal flaw is not trusting systems and he is part of a big one. I also would have found it very fitting if he destroyed her and X once she decided to attack.
Adrian was a true believer, so placing himself at the mercy of God seemed fitting. But I don't think he was right in a universal sense. He was only right inside a paradigm that is as black-and-white as his.
He was only "right" in the sense of diagnosing her issue, and I'd argue he was only able to do so because he has the same issue: single-minded zealotry.
She doesn't trust systems but she's trying to overthrow a system to implement a better system lmao
I love Erika, but Annabelle as a character is insufferable, it's why I can't stand the majority of Brujah
Glad to see I'm not the only one who got frustrated with Annabelle. While Erika did a great job portraying the character, it always felt like Annabelle as character was always making grandiose speeches which ignored important points or actively made decisions that just made things worse and patted herself on the back for a job well done.
Like using Adrian as an example, she often kept going back to making grand speeches about how corrupt the Catholic Church was, even though Adrian said multiple time that he was no longer affiliated with them. The thin-bloods are a great example of her making something worse, but patting herself on the back for the outcome. They were keeping themselves secret and living their lives as best they could, she made all these speeches about how they should have a safe home and in the end they're diablerizing all sorts of folks to become stronger and she acts like its a victory.
In the end she admits she doesn't know what they'll replace the system with, but STILL is determined to tear it down anyways. Some folks might think that it's showing her willingness to admit she doesn't know the answer, but all this shows is despite all of the pain people went through and deaths that happened, that she refuses to learn any sort of lesson from this whole ordeal.

I think it's fair to consider this the series finale, while the next one is more of an epilogue :D And what a finale it was... A magnificent performance by Brennan Lee Mulligan, a very nice cameo by Matthew Mercer, and epic and rapid rescue mission, some big changes coming to Los Angeles, and the vamily, really, what's there not to like? You did a fantastic job, all of you ^_^
A little over a year ago, I sliced off a finger tip at work. I remember that pain well. Eva slicing off her fingertips made all ten of my fingers curl and made me cringe!
I feel bad for Adrian, he was right, vampires are monsters and he really tried to guide Annabelle to Golconda. He could have really tried to kill Anabelle so many times, and honestly as a vampire, following the golconda, survive the guilt and walk again under the sun or just goung Sabbat feel like the two most honest options, wich acknowledge the beast they are and the harm they cause to society of humans.
Ultimately, the Inquisition is right, vampires are a curse on humanity.
He’s a murderous psychopath who kills things he doesn’t even know well, also having religious fanaticism doesn’t help.
He’s right about characters like Nelle though, in Camarilla society she would be dead for diablerie and rightfully so.
