Tough to bet Nines though. I soo love that guy's acting. Different shade yes, but gosh he is awesome. Taliesin is different, still good but, hard act to beat.
@@lukecaruana8871 Taliesin's Carver is the guy who has been on the frontlines, and is a hardcore fighter, whereas Luis' Nines is the war weary mentor, training the next generation.
yeah when I think VTM I think Taliesin's character...not just now but since I was in high school. The way he plays carver is great for Bruha but good for Gangrel too. I think he just gets the mood of a darker world and the oddity of being a Vampire in a dark world and not a human in a human centric world and how to act different but familiar....That and for me VTM = 90's inspired Goth and Taliesin .....yeah he was that guy in real life
Also a lesson that people don't like hearing the truth, no matter how true. If it doesn't fit their own desires or world views, people will always hate, twist, hide or ignore the truth.
Torben Franke just as if "the truth" is something objective "out there" that just needs to be found. With the example of Carver: He is neither apolitical, without agenda or has not his own perspective and world view. Telling how "it is" just makes these aspects invisible through the apoarent disembodiment. Carver shows that he imposes his pessimistic worldview onto the future-making and is portrayed as "realist" not in part how the story is told by Jason and the others. But also Annabelle, Kyoko and Delilah show us that "the truth" as well as "the future" is something brought into reality by the people (kindred) through their motivations, beliefs, political stances and actions. They struggle for another world. But Vampires as setting built upon certain assumptions about humankind that makes it very difficult to have smth like empathy, kindness, and companionship. So what you do here is actively setting Carver's story as "objective truth". But less so what are his politics behind. Because that is crucial also in what kind of truths we adhere to: what worlds do we want to live in?
@@crwmy that may be the case from a narrative standpoint, but we as onlookers know better. We are given glances at the plans and machinations the camarilla and other kindred have in store in between the seasons. Carver pointed out the coming future accurately, and we know as much from a metha point of view. Narratively he can't know for certain but his cynicism makes him think as much, and he would be right on the money (if my memory of this session doesn't deceive me right now, admittedly it's been a while since I watched this) Other than that tho, Annabelle hasn't been embraced yesterday. She has been active for a couple of months now, and got a glimpse at how secretive and selfish kindred are even in the better working coteries. And coteries in and of themselves are a rarity in kindred society (at least according to the books) she should know that neither faction is going to relent and therefor Carver's vision is the realistic point of view and what's likely going to hapoen. Altho, of course I will concede, that technically nobody can know that for sure. However looking at truth as a concept it is a dangerous school of thought to say that truth is something people bring into reality. The future may be malleable, but truth is something that can be objectively determined by facts and evidence. Denial of said truth doesn't make something else true. Just because I believe Santa Claus exists doesn't make him real. Seeing a dictator and believing he is benevolent doesn't make the regime less totalitarian. Undeniable Evidence and fact form truth. That is a huge problem we are currently facing in society and shouldn't be taken lightly.
@@torbenfranke1859 But it is important to exactly look at the diegesis of the world and extra-diegetic knowledge. This says a lot about how this fictional world works and how it is portrayed, including the human image it is based on. Rationalizing Carver's view and behavior from extra-diegetic (meta) perspective is boring regarding truth, because the world is set up to be in a way that proves him right. It is more interesting to stay within the character's limits and portraying to find out their motives from there. In that way, coteries are not unusual for Annabelle, but quite normal. But it still does not account for her convictions. She is fundamentally struggling for a more just world within a setting that is build and thrives on injustice. More: Kindred are portrayed as essentially more or less evil, with even some extra-diegetic eugenist thoughts regarding powers bound to blood. And therefore, many kindred understand themselves as bound to their essence that is immutable. The interesting thing with Annabelle is, that she challenges that sacrosanct belief system by saying it can be done different and even Kindred have more choice than they think. This struggle to change unjust systems is what connects the story to this, to our world, and social movements like the Civil Rights Movement, Feminism, and Black Lives Matter. Carver in that sense does one thing: He looks at the past and projects it into the future without the possibility to change, but what has the most probability to happen. There is no change of course, no evolvement, no difference. It is more of the same and we're all gonna die. But even he has an unruly part that wants things to be different. He is still Anarch and not Camarilla, even though Carver lacks the vision to think otherwise, he supports those who can and plays the admonisher in the world and extra-diegetically gives us viewers foreshadowing of events. With that Carver is for us viewer a Greek oracle, a fortune teller of the unchanging fate. But this is not inevitable within the story, but actively crafted by Jason Carl and others to make a point. And it less true for our world we inhabit. Truth and Facts are constructed and not found. They are not objective on their own, but made so. Look into scientific controversies (e.g Collins "Son of the seven sexes") or even right now around Covid-19. First, we had from the WHO masks do nothing, than they are bad, and now they are useful. Science, which is most often associated with "facts" is also a social process that is also political. We have competing companies, universities and labs. The way our economic system is structured actively discourages openness, collaboration, and exchange in trade for closeness, patenting, and maximum profit. In the fear of total relativism you're imposing total objectivism. Total impartiality disconnects you from this world and makes you disinterested in its becoming. The problem we have in our societies (around the world) is that most still cling on the idea of an apolitical, objective, non-partial, unpersonal all-encompassing truth that is uncontested. As I said before. The question is: In which worlds do we want to live? And I do want to live in a world we're Santa Claus might be possible, but I do not want to live in a world with a dictator because allocating power to one person is harmful. And by considering and connecting with others I can broaden my perspective beyond my own experience and strive with others to have a better world. Something that also Annabelle tries btw.
@ 47:38 ~ Annabelle {referring to Carver}: "I ... He, is not to be trusted." @ 54:48 ~ Carver: *"And I'll ask you. When have I ever really lied to you? God, I love Carver so much. He's my favorite side character. Taliesin's portrayal of him is top tier. Taliesin is so talented, it's always a pleasure to see him. It's amazing how he always fits in perfectly no matter what game he's playing
Aaron Goldsmith I think Eva and X are there because they represent two other vampire clans and they are closest to the coterie without actually being in it. Well I guess X is actually in it but he still in hiding. All the clans now in the opening Torreador, Nosferatu, Ventrue, Bruja and now Malkavian and Tremere, just need Ib to join for the La Sombra.
@@Mike86boy She would be but it doesn't quite fit the pattern. The original seven clans would need a Gangrel. Ramona maybe but I'm unsure if she got killed off with the Valkyries. If you want to add Ib as a Lasombra you kind of have to go for all 13 of The Great Clans. Several of which haven't had a single representative in the entire Chronicle.
And this, kids, is how you roleplay a Brujah and further the story for everyone. This is high quality playing there, being annoying to other characters without being annoying to your fellow players is not that hard when you know what you do and it is SO satisfying for everyone. We love you Taliesin!
why does everybody treat Carver like shit? he's the only one making sense and everyone acts like he's worse than the Camarilla. And I mean that literally. Annabelle walked up to lady Valk killer who murdered the whole squad and asked what she needed help with, and yet Carver is the only person she consistently calls a piece of shit
@@Whosaskin but it really is not. He has stated so previously, just in case she needed it spelled out for her, what he gave her is options. She would have been final dead without him and she can always choose to end herself and invalidate his embrace at any point. He never demanded anything from her, she has total freedom from her sire, if she dislikes being a vampire all that much (doubtful seeing how she is so happy to turn her lovers) she can stop at any. fucking. point. she. wants.
Right? He scares the crap out of me sometimes. Carver is unarguably the worst NPC that I ever created, and I handed him to the one person I knew would make it even worse. :D
When you realize that Carver is probably the best sire ever, in a more logical sense, becausr he abandoned Annabelle to prove that she does not owe him anything in return, not even her allegience, which is the authority that all other sire-embraced relationship is based on :O
Yeah he said that here but he's already admitted previously that he lost her. And despite having Eva put some tracking mojo on her he still didn't find her for the three weeks that lead to the Coterie finding her. His assertion that it was a blessing that he gave her is the one flat out lie he's told her.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue I mean, it was another chance at life even if it's technically not scientifically life, she would have died had he not turned her, so which is better, just flat out letting her lay there and die or give her a second chance in a different world? It's my personal opinion that at least in her case it was reasonable and justified, maybe even good, to turn her. Though I've not finished this episode so maybe there's some big revelation that changes all that, or maybe I'm just wrong, but that's my opinion given what I know now.
@@someq.Flat out ignoring the fact that the game is about the horror of actually being the monster. Or how it has impacted both of her relationships since she still has to segregate herself from her old life and attachments. She's still effectively dead but this way she has to witness her own death and experience grief for herself and the potential lost. And that's not even including the slow death that Kindred experience by degrees over the years. What the Kindred have isn't life just a delusion of it.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue I didn't think of it that way, though I suppose my perspective and thought process is very different than that and what Annabelle's would be. The effect upon relationships aspect of that is really important and I didn't even think about it, so thank you for calling me out on that, and the rest is completely valid as well but it's really heavily dependent upon the person, but yes, when you put it like that it makes sense how it'd be much more curse than blessing to her, I failed to adequately consider other perspectives from which one would experience it, most importantly hers. I was thinking of it from a warped perspective that was neither my own or hers but rather an amalgamation, alongside not properly considering other important factors, and it led me to conclusions neither fully befitting nor adequately pertaining to the original situation, so thank you for taking the time to reply and counter what I said!
The Problem is some one has to teach them, and for Annabelle that was the Griffith College Gang. Annabelle still has all the same problems as an ordinary fledgling, Carver just shrugged the normal things
Now Carver...Carver is a real brujah. My Ventrue heart is filled with begrudging respect for him. Where Annabelle is everything I hate about that clan, Nines and Carver are the kind of pragmatic revolutionary I can respect. And Taliesin is an absolute joy to watch ❤️
Carver and Nines are the Brujah who have aged, and realized roaring flames of fury and righteousness are unwieldy. They’ve thinned the flames for surgical control, whereas annabelle is the wild fire that can cause more damage than good
I feel like Annabelle's novice Brujah attitude is necessary to really show just what a proper Brujah is. One who still has their temper, yet has learned to temper it and look at the bigger picture. Anyone can howl about injustice and toss a molotov through a window, but it takes wisdom and experience for it to mean anything.
Ventrue are unfairly maligned!! Specifically Anarch Ventrue - they got this whole “lead from the front, lead by example, display the qualities you want to inspire in your followers” thing going that weirds out the Ventrue who are used to ruling from balconies and never actually having to interact with the rabble
Finally catching up and wow, Annabelle really dropped the ball this episode. No clue what Carver could have done to deserve such intense and immediate vitriol. And then she offered to sell him out to one of the Camarilla who took and tortured Jasper? Not cool B, not cool. Mad props to Erika though, loving the intense RP.
He's always had the look mastered. I just don't like how the hood is oddly flared. I assume it's a concession to avoid actually obscuring Alex Ward's appearance though.
@James Richardson Temporis is most likely amalgrams of celerity and presence in V5, a projection of celerity upon others. And carver has only celerity 1 as mentioned in this episode.
I agree. Brujah characters usually lack an agenda and Carver is playing that part very well. There is a plan to chaos he is causing that gives a climpse of why it is called the learned clan. Very well done.
@UFHoee If you're talking about True Brujah, they would just not care much to try and convince you of anything. They're as they would say "cold even to the point where they find summoning emotions to be difficult". And if someone knows you're a True Brujah, they'd be second guessing how they approach you since you have a hold over time itself.
It really annoys me that Carver is so right, and they're just so determined to hate him, they refuse to hear him. Great roleplay but I just kept shaking my head at their willful ignorance.
It´s wonderful that LA by Night is back. Nice to see both the regular players and new faces and, as always, Jason Carl as Storyteller. Great to have Taliesin Jaffe show up, I really like Carver. Though...quoting the Book of Nod in regards to Gehenna, trying to organise an army of high-generation Vampires, advocating Diablerie...have you been drinking from a chalice lately, Brujah? Or listening to Black Sabbath? :)
Who else started laughing hysterically at 1:08:40 when Carver said "I knew you'd be fine, you do what is necessary"? Because everything I have against Annabelle is that she really doesn't

Right at the first talk with Kyoko, she was talking about everyone's embraces were different and said something like "mine sucked...", and since S1 everyone keeps telling her how she had a pretty okay one, and everyone else who talked to her about it had a worse experience, but she keeps whining about it until now... Then "everything out of his mouth is lies", the guy never lied to her once that I remember...
To be completely honest, the undisputed Baron of the Valley is the main reason I keep following this; credit where credit is due, Carver is one of the best played brujah I've seen in a while, and I ain't a big fan of the malcontents these days lol Keep on keeping on, Jason. You're great at what you do, you have superb timing for when to take the wheel and when to let the characters take over. :)

May give it a look, thanks for the recommendation!
@Laura Martin-Falla No need to apologise for being passionate, 'tis infectious I say! I don't mind some technical difficulties as long as I enjoy the story and characters, and it does help a lot when the group is comfortable with eachother; I've seen Matt DM the Divinity Original Sin 2 GM mode, guess Larian Studios went all out to showcase it, Matt's voice acting really enhanced the experience. I honestly find Carver to be an absolutely fascinating character. The guy is an absolute arsehole and a total dick, _but_ he's also been the most honest character (I don't _think_ he's ever told a lie), he's deserving of trust (has never _openly_ betrayed any of the coterie), and is the only character (outside the coterie) who is actively doing something to keep L.A. an Anarch Free State. It just feels like this really odd situation where the Coterie gets screwed over constantly by the people being friendly to them (whether it's done intentionally or not), and they keep putting their trust in people who screw them over, just because they're nice. But then Carver is there, never lying to them, never betraying them, and his goals perfectly align with what they're trying to do, but they refuse to put any trust in him because he's not a friendly person. Addendum now that I'm near the end of the episode: I feel like, as soon as the Lasombra first showed up on the side of the Camarilla, someone should have had a sit-down with Annabelle and explained why you absolutely do _not_ have a nice chit-chat and make deals with the "ex"-Sabbat Kindred.
I'd say precisely one as far as I've caught anyway. What he says here about her siring is at odds with what he said the last time. One of the two characterizations of the events is a lie as what he says about abandoning contradicts what he said previously.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue a bit late but: while it's said that Annabelle escaped, there's also the posibility that Carver thougth of maybe training her, but decided to leave her with the coterie? But being a lie is also a posibility
I don't see why people are not okay with someone's not being nice to them. Carver is just another person and you don't know him still you treat him like garbage as if he's done something bad to you specifically
in what way is he a dick? The dude never insulted anyone, never betrayed anyone as far as we know, he started with a bad reputation thanks to Anabelle being her usual self and then he became the most hated person in the room and he never felt insulted by that. In what way is he a dick? He seems the most alright person in that whole discussion.
That's how people act when they know they're in no danger whatsoever. Not quite how I would imagine interacting with an older, far more powerful creature who could just as easily rip off your head before your next blink, as he could pass you a note. Carver played it as best he could because plot armor.
No doubt. It was brutal. And completely incompetent. If these ladies grasped WoD and vampire society.... they'd have met final death within their first couple of encounters with mouths like theirs... sheesh! BUT when your SJW character is the crux of the entire story arch I guess you get to run your mouth without consequence.
I really like Jason as Isaac Abrahams Face. Altought he is the Storyteller, when he is portraying Isaac, he stops being the storyteller and becomes a Playable Character. He reminds me a lot to the videogame one, in the way he carries himself as Isaac.
Who do you think brought the attention of the SI to the vamps in the first place? It's the Camarilla. They're the main reason why SchreckNet was compromised, and then blamed it on the Anarchs and the Nosferatu.
@@kereminde Not really, no. The Camarilla was the one who orchestrated blaming some terrorist attacks to the Sabbat and they started tipping off humans about it. They figured they can hit two birds with one stone, until those humans realized what they were doing. And so the 2nd inquisition was born. They wouldn't have found the SchreckNet if they weren't already looking. Then the Camarilla blamed it on the Anarchs and the Nosferatu. Saying it's because of their reliance on modern technology that the SI found them.
What's up with the hostility turned to 11 against Carver? Like... Why? Did he fart on Annabelle's cake? Edit at the end: oh boy, any high ground Annabelle had is gone. I just hope it plays out well for the coterie. Fine roleplay though 👍
BARON G! The moment we've been anxiously antsticipating for months finally cometh I hope Annabelle realizes they gotta prepare to take Aurora out as soon as the truce breaks
i hate how Annabelle hates/distrusts Carver when he actually cares for her and saved her from final death. Just seems unfair he doesn't even mess with her like Chazz used to do with Nelli or even Katya. Its just annoying
Her feelings are perfectly understable, he literally dropped her into vam0irehood, which while saving her life could be seen as worse than death, and abandoned her. He may have a high minded view that it stopped her from owning him as her sire, but all it did is make the Coetrie take on that role.
I genuinely, *genuinely* have no clue why Annabelle rushed to turn Carver against Delilah even though he clearly wants to back the Thinbloods up. Her answer to throwing insults at him without even attempting to have an adult conversation is "You are an asshole" and, if pushed further, "YoU mAdE mE a VaMpIrE" - which I understand makes her loathe him, but it doesn't invalidate any of Carver's points.
1:48:33 Carver just casually mentionning Montréal as a city he can provide contact to Delilah with makes me wanna see a Montréal by night I'd like to see how kindred's faring in the nearest big city from where I live.
I mean, in fairness he is Annabelle's sire and most Vamps hate their sires since most sires are assholes. And even though Carver didn't kill Annabelle, he still embraced her for a fairly selfish reason and consent is a big thing for any character like Annabelle. I get the frustration hearing a slew of insults toward a guest player and their character, but in the game's context it makes sense and out of game Tal is a pro in TTRPG's and a VA, it's all good at the end of the day you know?
@@xNephilimxXx It's a great story, and a difficult medium to work in. Annabelle probably has 4 dots in leadership or something, and a good story teller portrays the effect of that, even if it's very hard to improv. I get that the info-for-Carver thing is probably a set-up to get to Aurora. Or just that she irrationally hates him for not letting her die, and not stopping her when she ran from him. But it's incredible to me that she can easily dance with the woman who killed all the Valkyries and tried to kidnap Mark, but can't ask Carver if other cities know about LA, or about the broader Anarch network, when she sees him running around with her name on his jacket. Annabelle's a fully realized character, but it's hard to believe she's learning enough to win, when she spends more time talking about Pottermore quiz results than ideas for an alternate system of government for Vampires. She doesn't have to be Rosa Luxemburg, but asking Delilah about how *she* thinks things should be run should be a central question for a revolutionary. I understand the need to build rapport, but I'd rather we dot-dot-dot the Baby-B fans than the construction of the new order.
@@baloreilly1 and here you witness the uncomfortable intersection of improvisation and game mechanics. I kinda had it in my head for some reason that Kyoko here was Kyoko Shinsegawa, the Anathema, because of her introduction as part of an elite anti-Camarilla hit squad coterie. But now I realize that didn't make sense. Shinsegawa was never inducted into the Tremere pyramid, and our Kyoko says she was Embraced only three years ago, which definitely doesn't line up with Shinsegawa's timeline. UNLESS she's lying about her past (which a Red Lister definitely would), and she's joined up with the Tremere Anarchs to shake off the Alastors on her trail, because their faulty intel indicates that Shinsegawa is a Toreador.
somoene really need to point out that this "leader" is letting her own personal disklike of someone block the people she wants to "save" from getting the help the could really use .... this is why i cant stand Annabell as the leader of this thing
Definitely not what I was expecting for the season's opener, but I ain't mad! Glad to have Mica Burton in the Vamily (and giving the Thin Bloods more screen time -- and not being Undisputedly eaten!) now, and gods, I have been waiting forever for the CR crew to get back in the mix. Taliesin's return as the gloriously dickish Carver hopefully means that Marisha will be returning to finally give us answers to the age old questions surrounding Ellenore. I don't know or care if it has anything to do with the splitting from G&S, but praise be, I am here for ANSWERS AND ESCALATION AMONG THE SHADOWS! It's time for some ANARCHY. And so much love to our now expanded cast list. You all have earned it. So, so much. Cannot wait for our lord of Crazy and the Queen of Tremere Shit to bring this house of cards down hard.
I love the inclusion of Kyoko in this season. She's had quite an arc from her first appearance as an spc and her actress, Faye, is a delight. Plays her full of energy and fun but also quite sensetive underneath it all. :)
*Let me set the record straight before someone jumps on me. I hold nothing against any of the role players or Jason Carl. I have been hooked on the since the first episode and will continue to watch. This is just my observations of the CHARACTERS' ACTIONS in the world they are playing in and the possible ramifications they have.* Personally, this was the most frustrating ep to watch. I know I'm not caught up yet so I don't know what happens later on but the fact that this whole episode was spent shitting on Carver when he was helping them the whole time very much annoyed me. Carver has been moving throughout the world contacting the thin-bloods and Annabelle has just now made contact with her first one. Carver has been nothing but right this ENTIRE TIME. There is a war coming that is just over the hill and everyone in this coterie thinks they can have peace. Annabelle continues to think he's an asshole but he's the one that saved her life and was going to explain everything to her until she ran away. But for some reason she believes he was the reason she was turned and he "abandoned her." THEN SHE DECIDES TO SELL HIM OUT TO AURORA?? I do not understand the thought process she goes through sometimes. Your sire and someone who has been trying to help your "revolution" and you decide to sell him out to the enemy? Annabelle is too young and WAY too inexperienced to not be taking advice from someone like Carver. When Carver attempts to keep the Masquerade by "drinking" a beer, they berate him and say he looks stupid. When he gives them advice, they get angry with him and call him a liar. When he is still upholding the Masquerade by covering up himself by getting thrown out and causing a fight, Kyoko THROWS A FUCKING FIREBALL WHILE THE LIGHTS ARE ON. Someone needs to come along and teach all of them a lesson. Maybe I am just very passionate about this series and maybe this was just a round-a-bout way of me saying I would take this whole situation from a different angle. Thank you for the hard work all of you have been doing. Again, this is nothing against the people playing or Jason Carl. I love everyone involved and I have become really invested in this story/world you all have built. Its just the characters have made some choices that I just don't agree with and that have turned out to be bad ideas at the end of the day (or night, if you will).
I very much agree. In a way it makes sense: Three neonates that clearly don't understand the world they're inhabiting talk smack to an ancilla that has their best interests in mind. But it's still frustrating to watch. I hope this means we get an episode later where the grown-ups can talk in peace. I highly doubt Annabelle is going to sell out Carver though. She's not the brightest bulb, but even she must have realized that selling out your own clanmate (sire, no less) to the faction you're actively fighting, for the dubious promise of "a secret" (that she doesn't even know what is) not being revealed, is not a great idea. (Don't worry, the Lasombra who killed a bunch of your friends pinky-promised she'd keep her word!) Instead, I think she's trying to play Aurora somehow. I'm about 99% sure it's not going to work because Aurora seems incomparably more competent at scheming than her, but at least her intentions are in the right place. Honestly though, I was more worried about the fireball being thrown. Not only is it a flagrant disregard for the Masquerade, but Kyoko seriously hurt Carver despite it being an OBVIOUS ploy against the Cam, and him pulling his punches. Had Aurora stalked Carver instead of playing with Annabelle, he would be at a serious disadvantage and possibly get captured or killed. Little wonder the Anarchs of LA are having a tough time if this is how they treat their natural allies...
As a kindred, that survived from befor the conventions of thornes into the modern times, I, Cristobal Juan de Borgia, can absolutely understand your frustration with such brazenly hazardous behavior. The anarchs are a misguided and foolish lot. Their lack of foresight has been their downfall for hundreds of years, and this poor decision on how to treat their elders is the perfect display that they need the guidance of their wisers.
Was thinking this the entire time and hoping that Carver would challenge that decision for a teaching moment, but I suppose I wouldn’t blame him for just accepting the insults and try to drive more important things home.
Still waiting for Annabelle to wake up and realize that she can't always have her cake and eat it too. I was okay with her in season 1 struggling to cope with her new existence as a Kindred and still clinging to her Humanity more than most. BUT she has never truly been tested or forced to make the hard choices that comes with being a Kindred in my opinion. She gets along with everyone she meets and is still on repeat about peace and justice for all. SHE NEEDS to be put in a situation where there is no easy way out and even if you do what you think is right there are always consequences. And she needs to know what its like to have the Beast come out and play. World of Darkness is not a pretty painting, sooner or later you end up hurting the people you love. This episode dragged initially and seriously listening to three Neonates sharing pop culture references is not what comes to mind when I think of Kindred. The saving grace was Carver as he stole every scene he was in and Jason Carl Role-playing Aurora. I hope she can become a regular fixture somewhere down the road, perhaps even be portrayed by a new player? I hope she won't turn out to be another "boss fight" the coterie can add to their growing list of Camarilla they've granted their Final Deaths.
@clarissa35f nothing wrong with crying once in awhile, but she does it every time she is in an episode. Every time. Plus at this point her character is really to naive to live.
@clarissa35f well first off I am a person to decide how often is too often, it's my opinion and I am entitled to express it. You don't have to agree with it or even like it. Further, I am not alone in this view go through the other episodes and you will see many comments just like mine. She crys at the drop.of a hat, any hat and all the time. To the point that Nelli shut her down. They are actors and trying to put on a quasi improv performance. I get that they want to flex their acting chops. However, in a (let's call it a show) emotional impact is lost if it happens all the time. Granted her coterie is probably not the best teachers into the world of darkness. They tend to ignore important things that they should probably be teaching Annabelle. However, her naivety actually prevents her from learning anything. Carver is right in everything he said, but Annabelle thinks vamps are all going to gather around and sing kumbaya instead of turning on each other if the chips are down. The beast's first desire is survival. Annabelle has yet to face that reality of Kindrid life. Further, she still doesn't grasp the fact that her actions have consequences. I so wanted Marcus to die to hit this point home to her. She was acting reckless and put his life in danger. It would have been a sharp smack in the noggin that this life is dangerous, and would have upped the tension in the group. Tes she is trying to cling on to her humanity, and is far less jaded than much older monsters, but technically speaking she should probably already be dead.
@clarissa35f which is fine, you are as entitled to your opinion as am I. I still think it is overused and drags out scenes far longer than necessary. It is still a role playing game after all. More rolling, more playing, less crying.
Every.fucking.episode. I can't take it seriously anymore. Either crying or telling people how to do stuff or "the right way to live". Emo-drama-spoiled.
Given the Source Material Carver would ve killed alll three of these inpolite baby lions. One thinks Baby B would start to adopt after one year of daily human blood drinking and murder. Like what the fuck
Does anyone else just find Annabelle over bearing and annoying (especially when shes on her own) 56:48 Ok please someone Molotov them God I love this show but god dam the three brats (nothing against the actresses just the characters) are driving me insane at least Carver is acting like a adult 1:15:25 Who blindly sent the into battle without clear intel and goals who got them all killed because of that oh wait you Annabelle someone who didn't have to sacrifice a thing and now your disrespecting them by hand waving them and changing what they did to suit your adenda 1:27:19 Oh so your polite to the creature that tried to kill you and your friends several times over but no common deceny to the polite Carver briliant
Listening to all 3 try and act big against Carver is so hard to watch. Literally had to stop watching for a bit. All 3 could be killed on the spot for being so stupid if it were someone else. Edit: Also Carver said 'one tiny bit of betrayal can go bad' and Annabelle going YOU'RE WRONG. Did she not just get done yelling at Chloe FOR DOING JUST THAT?? For sharing secrets? What the hell. Edit2: also the circlejerking between the 3 has to stop
@clarissa35f Annabelle's placed her trust in pretty much everyone, especially X who Therese has direct access to. She was fine looking to make a deal with the scourge. She was willing to talk openly with Jeanette. She's reckless.
"I hate to say it, but Carver is kinda always right, but let us disregard and discard everything he says, DUH" she is only fit to protest for some vegan BS on campus, I'm not even sure she's CARVED for that, really. Must feel like such a waste for him, it sure as hell would for me in his stead. Dreaming pipe dreams never led any real go-getter revolutionaries to victory, they all had to get their hands dirty and coated in blood, there is no work around that, has never been as a matter of fact. If you're not ready then drop the act. I sort of hoped that the Valkyries incident would toughen her up or reveal her for what she really is, but it's too much to ask. Fucking A+ performance picturing a Harry Potter-obsessed millenial waiting for a miracle to be served on a dish, I kid you not.
The fact that Victor is her superior is not helping a tiny bit, I would fry X's balls the second I got to have my hands on him after that one episode when he, being very zingy about it, refused to drive them to the parking lot where they should have met their final deaths. No need to look further. Victor should have posted a warrant for his ass, if constant show of disrespect isn't enough already. There is so much sense for a Ventrue to make use of him to get closer to Therese, but he just granted him asylum and let him be. Victor should have been a Toreador, he's lacking the firm grip.
Yeah, the 3 together was tough to watch. Without Carver and Aurora I would have stopped here watching the show..."Oh, you are so cool, and Harry Potter and we are all so nice and tough"...oh and Annabelle cries, of course...Thinbloods who are not one bit afraid of one interaction with old and partly hostile Vampires...too much act of ubercool.
@@isultansultangaliev5852 he could move at a very high speed, but only if unimpeded. Nelly and chaz could only run to or from danger in their fight. Don't have any rulebooks, but it doesn't seem to be the same "blink".
Well, actually, it seemed to me that he was using Unseen Storm at that time, as you remember, he moved around so fast nobody can see him. Blink was suppose to be a one-off thing, like you use it and appear infront or move away of an opponent or a target. But Unseen Storm is a Celerity 8 move. Which is godly in terms of power. I heard it's one of the skills that you will have if you select a clan with Celerity in Bloodlines 2. So, I guess they downgraded it for the games' sake. I'm not sure about this story itself.
Taliesin was great as Carver as usual. The rest of the rp seemed at points a bit cringy to me, for lack of better world, BUT great to see old and new faces in the Vamily. LA by Night season 4 baby, fuck yeah!
Jason's giving the eerie subtle beats while Carver is pumping harsh truths god damn I'm getting goosebumps from apocalyptic war messages from Carver. He really gives the brujah feeling.
Another day, another episode that Annabelle flagrantly ignores learning the dangers of Kindred society, breaks the Masquerade casually, and moralizes everything she does wrong without any repercussions. I'm glad Erika having fun, but it's hard seeing this dark world of risks, compromises, and struggles against darker natures turned into something it's not.
@@creepy.cookie3187 Because she is annoying, and if you stick to the lore of the game, someone like her would get killed. You don't go around mouthing off to every powerful vampire you meet and expect to live very long.
@@Fankas2000 I think that depends on who you make friends with early on. She can mouth off the way she does because she’s got Jasper and the rest of the codery to back her up- as well as most of the valley anarchs by this point in the story. Having more young kindred who relate to Annabelle and share her passion was a breath of fresh air for me. I think these characters are so much more ‘human’ than the others, and yet they’re strong and fearless and occasionally stupid. Eventually sure, their luck may run out and these traits of humanity might get them killed. That doesnt make them annoying or bad characters, it simply means they’re more at risk of the final death in-game.

@@Fankas2000 it’s a game about vampires and werewolves and vampire civil wars, some of it is gonna be cringe. i think the way victor and nelli constantly throw their fame around is cringe. I screamed when I saw the new intro and that X and Eva are now part of the regular cast!!! Finally! I only found out about the show last month and I've been diligently watching it and now I'm finally in season 4! As usual it's absolutely wonderful!
I'm new to Vampire but I've been working through all the old LA by Night episodes and love it! So glad to see it's still going I can't wait until I get up to this point in the story
I have to admit, this opening episode was a bit hard to get through haha. Annabelle and the others just seemed like moody teenagers. Carver was excellent, despite the cursing children and got em quips. Still, once the others are on scene, I'm sure it will be better again. I cannot connect to Annabelle at all lol.
The Kyoko out of time and space moment speaking names of people in front of who got her in torpor few months ago is so nonsense that i had to comment it. Even Jason, astonished, asked her where did she tell that. That was a clear player mistake, like if she didnt remember/know a lot of stuff from season3. Apart from that. Great acting and improvisation as always. Really like Taliesin come back as Carver, such a good roleplaying. Keep up the good work! Greeting from Italy
@@moonlight2870 1:56:05 Why on earth would she mention Carver and Delilah in front of Aurora who literally wanted to kill her not so long ago? And might as well be the reason Kyoko went into torpor. Thats what. Annabelle was shocked as well as Jason. They might have truce but they are still mortal enemies.
Taliesin is a whole different level of excellent at RPing a Brujah; he owns every scene he's ever done in this series. Best guest star ever.
Really feel like they all misunderstood the clear intention of Carver hitting them
Tough to bet Nines though. I soo love that guy's acting. Different shade yes, but gosh he is awesome. Taliesin is different, still good but, hard act to beat.
@@lukecaruana8871 Fair point. We haven't had them in a scene together yet, have we? That would be amazing - let the guest stars take over!
I think he just gets the mood of a darker world and the oddity of being a Vampire in a dark world and not a human in a human centric world and how to act different but familiar....That and for me VTM = 90's inspired Goth and Taliesin .....yeah he was that guy in real life
Carver: An object lesson in the fact that being 100% correct on every point is no substitute for a good first impression.
Narratively he can't know for certain but his cynicism makes him think as much, and he would be right on the money (if my memory of this session doesn't deceive me right now, admittedly it's been a while since I watched this)
Other than that tho, Annabelle hasn't been embraced yesterday.
@@crwmy this whole comment is literally semantics. Truth is objective lmao

Eva and X are in the main titles.... Finally!!! Absolutely love kyoko. Was so happy to see her back. Special guest was.... Very special.
@MICHAEL DURAN Eva is also pretty much an official member of the coterie by now.
I feel like Annabell did Carver so dirty this episode that any good he was trying to do for the Movement just got voided.
Annabelle is the worst, no idea how she didn't meet the final death at this point.
And this, kids, is how you roleplay a Brujah and further the story for everyone. why does everybody treat Carver like shit? he's the only one making sense and everyone acts like he's worse than the Camarilla.
And I mean that literally. Annabelle walked up to lady Valk killer who murdered the whole squad and asked what she needed help with, and yet Carver is the only person she consistently calls a piece of shit
Because she's angry that he turned her, and I think that's a good reason.
@@Whosaskin but it really is not. He has stated so previously, just in case she needed it spelled out for her, what he gave her is options.

Specifically Anarch Ventrue - they got this whole “lead from the front, lead by example, display the qualities you want to inspire in your followers” thing going that weirds out the Ventrue who are used to ruling from balconies and never actually having to interact with the rabble
Carver is such a great example of the difference between "nice" and "good" (as is Jasper and, in the other direction, many roses in the Camarilla).
Finally catching up and wow, Annabelle really dropped the ball this episode. No clue what Carver could have done to deserve such intense and immediate vitriol. And then she offered to sell him out to one of the Camarilla who took and tortured Jasper? Not cool B, not cool.

True old Brujah logic: "this is taking too long. I try to lick the side of her head."

Will make sure to check out the Critical Role stuff!
@@xXvironXx Might be a smidgen to late but I second starting with season 2 simply because there was some drama in the early season 1 show that's such a turn-off (I simply couldn't get past it personally).
That being said I've only heard good things about season 1 after that, but there's a 100 episodes (from 3-5 hours) of season 2, which imho is superior, so why not start there :)

Yeah, and doing it with a stupid grin while at it. We are talking about the dude who has been taking care of her since day one, covering her mistakes and risking his life for her and at her side. Everyone against Carver.
Carver Just "prove me wrong".
Carver going with that intelligence 5 charisma 0 build
The way the girls interact with Carver is the most I've been reminded of how it was to be bullied in years
That's how people act when they know they're in no danger whatsoever. Camarilla: Stop bringing attention to yourselves! You’re going to start a second inquisition!
Anarchs: *eye roll* Ok Boomer...
And this is why everyone in the Camarilla expects the second inquisition.
They're anarchs, what do you expect
Who do you think brought the attention of the SI to the vamps in the first place? It's the Camarilla. They're the main reason why SchreckNet was compromised, and then blamed it on the Anarchs and the Nosferatu.
@@pepethefrog6809 To be fair...
... it's the Nosferatu.
Like... Why? Did he fart on Annabelle's cake?

i hate how Annabelle hates/distrusts Carver when he actually cares for her and saved her from final death. Just seems unfair he doesn't even mess with her like Chazz used to do with Nelli or even Katya. Its just annoying
Annabelle runs on nothing but emotion. She rarely uses her actual brain in making any descision.
That's part of being a Bruhja!
She also literally voluntarily embraced 1+ of her lovers lmao.
I love the bodyguard's reaction to the broken nose. "Yeah this is an occupational hazard."
That'd be a frenzy check for Carver when they start laughing at him like that.

why are they all sooooooo mean to Carver when he literally hasnt done anything bad to them atall, and is offering help?
I mean, in fairness he is Annabelle's sire and most Vamps hate their sires since most sires are assholes. And even though Carver didn't kill Annabelle, he still embraced her for a fairly selfish reason and consent is a big thing for any character like Annabelle. I get the frustration hearing a slew of insults toward a guest player and their character, but in the game's context it makes sense and out of game Tal is a pro in TTRPG's and a VA, it's all good at the end of the day you know?
That seemed too much to me too
When Taliesin Jaffe is playing Carver he is creepy as a creepy thing. It's great!

Hopefully, someone in the show will notice this. The plot-armor is getting ridiculous.
@@baloreilly1 right?
Vampires ARE monsters, you know.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the opening. As always, we follow the story with a roving point of view, so not all characters are in every episode. ;)
"Multiple things happen at once"
Delilah laughs - She knows what comes next!
This is just my observations of the CHARACTERS' ACTIONS in the world they are playing in and the possible ramifications they have.*
Personally, this was the most frustrating ep to watch.
Little wonder the Anarchs of LA are having a tough time if this is how they treat their natural allies...
preach
I thought it was hilarious and I especially love how expertly he handles the mistrust and hostility.
People make dumb dessision, so is baby kingdred
Damn Carver going through the ringer to cover for the people he has a soft spot for.
instantly drawn to Mica Burton as Delilah great vibe for a thin blood. Loved that kyoko screwed up in the game felt less scripted.
When the elder god walks into frame you know its' gonna be good.
They invited Carver into the booth just to tell him they didn't want to talk to him and lie about what they were talking about.
What?
Annabelle is kind of a social justice warrior. She's naive, irresponsible and entitled. She's my least favorite character.
40 minutes in and Annabelle starts with the crying.

Victor should have been a Toreador, he's lacking the firm grip.
thats like posting a lottery winner picture. Or a vegetarian cat. There are always exceptions. Doesnt make everything an exception.
Why does Carver only have 1 dot in Celerity? He had Blink during that scene in the True Blood crackhouse in season 1...
I don't remember it so well but the way it was described wasn't the way the Storyteller describes Blink when Nellie does it.

What?
@@moonlight2870 1:56:05 Why on earth would she mention Carver and Delilah in front of Aurora who literally wanted to kill her not so long ago? And might as well be the reason Kyoko went into torpor. Thats what. Annabelle was shocked as well as Jason. They might have truce but they are still mortal enemies.
Craver headbutts guy. Jason, “There’s a satisfying crunch.” Jason = King.
Watching the only adult in the room dealing with children is mildly infuriating but hilarious 😂
