Sorry about the breakup brother. Going through one myself man. Plenty of fish out in the sea if you know what I mean. It’ll get better. But keep your mind focused on your content and do what you love my man. Love the channel. Ttyl ✌🏽
I have to imagine it's locked to the VIN of my E60. I bet someone who knows NCS or similar could do it in two minutes but that's not me, not yet at least! I loved seeing you just dig in and take it all apart to get it "working", that was a lot of fun! PS Sage and you both officially rock
This is a great channel and Alec you are such a cool person, wishing you everything of the best from South Africa, Cape Town. Keep up the good work bro. Im busy slowly restoring a 97' e36 4door facelift with 175800km (109237miles) with FSH. Keep up the good work and don't stop applying your positive attitude, it helps us subscribers aswell.
Hey man...life happens. Sometimes you need to take time for yourself, and selfheal. Your emotional, mental, and physical state is very important. Gotta make sure self is taking care of first before trying to help anyone else. Day by day my friend.
You teach us more than just repairs. Small improvements indeed are improvements! Good luck getting through this time. You'll be better. If there is anyone I trust for that due to being a very positive person, it has to be you!
The problem most likely lays with the iDrive knob. I had a E90 where you had to resolder the PCB on the knob to make it work again. I am 80% sure this is your problem as well, plus its a 10 minute job to give it a try :) Just take the knob out of the center console, get the PCB out and reflow the solder joints, there where a few specific but you have to google for that one, its been almost 2 years for me.
Everything at home is coming along so well! John sure does rock! Im sorry about the break up. Those things are tough for sure. You will keep growing and thriving my dear friend 🙏 On the swap, I think you might also have to swap the circuit boards as well. Thats about the extent of my knowledge there 😂 So good to see you tho Alec!!
I am so sorry about your breakup, but it sounds like you are dealing with pretty well. It’s always great to see you Alec and it’s unusual, but great to see you enjoying some short sleeve weather! I was just thinking about you and you came through for me!
Hey brother! What do you mean, going through a break up?? That sucks man, but like you said... hit that gym, heat well and keep your head up. Looking forward to the E46 maintenance! My own E46 convertible just threw an EML on me yesterday... I turned the car off and on again (like a true IT guy that I am) and the light was gone... still need to hook it up to ISTA to see what's going on... wish me luck bud!! And all the best to you, cheers!
Looking forward to watching the oil pan gasket job. you have a great way of teaching us how. maybe for the e46 you could make it into sort of a tutorial for that part?
Hi, I've worked on almost similair units, Peugeot and Renault also used the same (VDO) drives. When swapping the circuit boards of the drive itself, you have to line up two miniature swiches! I don't know if you where aware of this? These are switches let the electronics know in which position the mechanism is. Sort of. It's pretty easy to do, you could try it out on your old unit. Bad luck on the breakup m8, be well. Cheers from the Netherlands.
I think the first step to do, is to update all CCC related modules in correct order (they have to be flashed in a certain order) to their newest software version with WinKFP, and then code the current VO (Vehicle Order) to all those modules. There is one module (the gateway module) that sometimes must not be updated because it doesn't support old style iDrive controllers and then the controller stops working, so maybe it has been updated before and that's why it does not work. It could also be incorrect programming for the current controller, as there is a setting which tells the CCC which controller you have (the setting can either be high or low, depending on the controller), which I think would cause it not to work. Not entirely sure on this one as I have never tried the other setting, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's too much steps to explain in a UA-cam comment, but if you want me to, I can send you a message on discord.
Sorry to hear about your breakup man. Good to hear your positive attitude as always! And the way you got the E60 unit to fit the E90 was really smart! Keep it up bud:)
The CCC needs to communicate with E90 language in a way. Not an expert here but i think you need to flash the E90 software to it. It seems kinda confused cause the VO holders in the E60 is Light module and CAS and in E90 it is FRM and CAS. So i think you need to flash it to your VIN and turn it into an E90 CCC with Winkfp Greetings from Norway anyways :) !!
Those chickens are crazy, great to hear from you again and sorry to hear you’ve been having a tough time. Hang in there, looking forward to the next post.
Sorry to hear you are goin' through it. Life really piles on sometimes but I am so pleased you're continuing the routine. I'm looking forward to the ep on your mate's car - he has really sunk some dollars into it.
Alec - i literally have -13 views on my channel so i have no idea what im talking abt. However, the thumbnail didn’t register in my peanut brain at all and I dang ol’ skipped right over this vid. If it doesn’t perform as expected, maybe try a different thumbnail. Thanks for the content.
Hey DK! Thanks for the insight! I actually didnt make a thumbnail for this video, I just let UA-cam suggest a screen grab since it was a bit of an inbetweener video with not much progress, more so an update, but you have a great point! Ill probably edit it this week. Just posted a freshy though and i dont think youll miss the thumbnail!!! Cheers!
Shout-out to Alec and John! Been helping me out as always! Awesome!

9:40 it's often that it doesn't show right side if logic or ask is not working properly, but also settings might be like these

Good for you knowing to hit the gym, eat well, and keep working. You're going to be good, brother.
i-Drive controller on the blink? Try a used one from another perhaps? Probably full of coffee…

Stay positive, buddy. Everything happens for a reason. Put your focus on other things like wrenching. It'll help bit by bit.
Is the swapped unit has bluetooth?
Sorry about what you’re going through man but we’re always here for you and hopefully it’s for the best.
