    Nice work Alec! I like your calm style in doing this. And the result is satisfying! It seems to appear more that the valve cover gasket is installed incorrectly. Mine was twisted (though not leaking). Well, one advantage of doing it calm is that you can double check that it is installed correctly now :)

    I would check the vacuum hoses on both sides, I remember having lean codes and did the CCV, SAP hoses, plugs on back of intake and the lean codes cleared. The PS reservoir is easy and an electric fan is a nice upgrade. The patina on my valves were similar on my E46 with about 125K when I did my VCG.

    You should also check a rubber plug at the back of the air inlet manifold.
    This plug is known to crack and hence vacuum leaks.

      When you install your new CCV, buy some extra long hoses and reposition it away from the intake and where it is accessible.
      Doing this way, the CCV is not exposing to high temperature and you don’t need to remove the intake if you have a problem next time.

    So the parts canon so far is: a battery, a bunch of brake clean and valve cover gasket? Whomever you bought this from will be kicking themselves!
    Great videos, just try not to spin too much, else we might fall off 😆
    I was under the impression that the DISA pin wouldn't fall out because it has a nook that it fits in to when installed (I read a lot, no real experience!)? The danger is when you are removing the DISA, drop the pin in the intake don't realise and then start the engine it goes big badaboom, but rebuilding the DISA is rarely a bad idea! I went looking for a rebuild kit for my M52TUB25's DISA but all of them are for the M54 one, and I don't think they are compatible.

    • @DayOffDIY
      @DayOffDIY  Рік тому +1

      Lololol pretty much! Cleaning the IAC was huge, just finished up the breather last night as well as a funky instrument cluster job i had to work on too.
      Thats definitely possible! i never looked at where the pin butts up to but it might be true it comes out from removing it. Im lookin at rebuild kits right now, yeah i did read that they are different models for the 2.5 and the 3.0.
      Thanks for the comment big cheese!

  • @SteveMaister007
    @SteveMaister007 Рік тому +4

    Looks like cleaning IAC made the difference, glad I could help :) Also prepare yourself for oil consuming due to piston oil rings. M54B30 are notorious for badly engineered piston rings and valve seals. To check potential oil consumption use white paper by the exhaust while cold start - oil drops mean it needs to be rebuild unfortunately. This is what I am about to do with mine.

    • @DayOffDIY
      @DayOffDIY  Рік тому +2

      Made a HUGE difference, thanks again for the insight. Yeah ive seen em consume before, sent some heads out for valve seals before too, never done em myself. Used to do A LOT of N62/N63 Valve seals at the shop for some years, also lots of Mini Coopers. Those were the worst on oil. We will see how it runs after the next repairs. Got some parts left to install so ill have some more content soon. Cheers

    Every bmw owner should stick to the bmw program (inspection) and what it does is changing parts before they break (they know what part will break at a certain time) .
    And one major improvement in every m54b30 engine is a catch can , the breather design by bmw is a joke they get clogged in the winter and crack , a catch can will improve very much the engine running smooth and the engine vacuum also improved .
    BMW is easy to work , every one with some basic tools can do the maintenance at home.
    And bmw engines don't like Bosch spark plugs, use always NGK .
    Great job on the 330.

    • @DayOffDIY
      @DayOffDIY  Рік тому

      I 100% agree! theres also lots of parts and components that can be replaced just due to visual age, before they fail completely.

      Thanks for the comment and all the feedback + tips.

Brown, black and red wires are burnt all together and it was grounding all three. I separated then and cut the burnt part and fixed it. Now, i’m habing an issue lol. With the lower radiiator hose collapsing as the car cools down. I know is a vaccum problem. Is the because its low on coolant or cap is bad? I checked the coolant and if i would base it on the coolant level stick between the top ball and lower ball marks. The lower ball mark is on the lip of the reservoir. As i checked a lot of coolant level on here on youtube it is where it supposed to be. Any idea on that collapsed lower hose?
