We had the unbelievable honour of being invited to play at Shane MacGowan's 60th birthday celebration at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on the 15th of January.
This is the version of The Old Main Drag that we put together for the show.
Massive thanks to Sinéad Kennedy for use of the location, to the NCH Dublin for putting together such a mindblowing gig, and to Shane MacGowan for writing some of the best songs the world has ever heard.

Shane MacGowan's harrowing song of prostitution, desolation, and despair... but his accounting of it all has such stoic poise that it imbues the subject matter- bleak as it is- with dignity and grace. *This* is why I love trad...
Shane is a shockingly good songwriter, one of the best ever.

I lived this life for 6 months back in 67/68. So much painful truth here.
Such a haunting song. I work at a bus station in Las Vegas, and I see this on a daily basis. This song always plays in my mind as people OD, piss on the buses, shoot rival dealers, or when we save a teen from a shitty pimp.

At a seisún in the home of some of the Lankum members about 10 years ago, I sang this song, and they helped me remember some of the lyrics as I was a bit worse for the drink! Great version here, great to hear it!
the original is a work of art but Lankum's version is truly haunting. Some of us never do escape from the old main drag.

Is that a joke? Lankum is great....but hearing the great Shane Macgowan mumble the lyrics that he lived is heartbreaking.

The last note isn't exactly missed, it is intentional as Radie plays it the same way live. I personally find it an interesting way to leave the piece unresolved, fitting considering the nature of the song.
