Heard this for the first time at the Gig for Gaza took me completely by surprise we had a tragedy in our little village not to long ago and it stirred every emotion known to man in me. It’s harrowing and absolutely beautiful at the same time
Happiness, youth, moments lost in time. Sparks in the darkness, fading to be obscured by newer, brighter lights. It is the darkness that makes them shine so brightly.
I have never been so fond of a bands music than of theirs. They rock me to my very core. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, if I listen to Lankum, everything begins to washout and I become humbled. We have come so far from our own existence and what is true and righteous, and Lankum is here to remind us all who we are and to bring us back to whole. This is the music of the flesh and blood of the earth. Alas, zen.
It's funny how people experience this differently. You say it rocks you to your core, I say it renders me nigh comatose. To me it sounds as if Art Garfunkel sucked the soul out of a Belle and Sebastian record and then sent the smouldering leftovers to Nick Cave for the bridge. For what it's worth: None of this is a compliment. :) Anyway, funky or jazzy this is not. I fear soul, R&B, blues, jazz, latin, bossa, hip-hop and funk have ruined this type of music for me. I think I could have enjoyed this as a late teenager, when I still thought angst could be somewhat cool, but that's a wee while ago. Anyway, NPR just cost me 4.52 of my life I'll never get back. :)

Love this song so deeply. Couldn't listen to it for a while as we lost someone in similar circumstances last year and these lyrics were too painful, but now I'm re-discovering their beauty. Two long years in January. Thank you for creating something so beautiful and powerful and soothing.
makes me cry every time. only 4 songs have made me cry. Beethoven's 9th symphony. Wing's Band on the Run. Killers' All These Things That I've Done. And, this one.
I came across Lankum’s False playing in s record store in Seattle Washington a few weeks ago, i consider it a blessing, the heavens gifted me their hauntingly beautiful music 🎶 ❤
Very unusual very sophisticated musically. That shadowy, threat-filled pace and rhythm combination with human voice harmonies is like something from a world of hypnosis and dreams. Very unusual.
Well this is just utterly fantastic. I bought the LP after reading an interview with your producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy. I love his ideas about sound and his approach serves to amplify and empower your songs in the best possible way. The sound, the lyrics, the sentiment, the performance is as good as it gets. Life affirming and transcendental.
Lankum is one of the rarest and finest bands that my ears have had the pleasure of listening to their music in the past 30 years or more. They've got that rare and special quality that's impossible to describe a define in words. They play and sing traditional Irish folk music which is a worldwide feel to it.. There is haunting music that makes you stop and think, wonder and brings your mind into the mystic, their words and music captures your mind and sinks down into your heart and soul, it is music from the earth and seeps up into your mind
Wow didn't think Captain Hotknives would be sending me on a mind expanding discovery of such a brilliant, genuine and beautiful band this evening. Absolutely amazing. My world is a little better now for it. Thank you
What a beautiful and heard rending song, and what a brilliant band to represent this theme in a way that it becomes an anthem that all can relate to. Also such a brilliantly made video.
Think the version on Tommy was a bit off in terms of sound. Had been to see them in Vicar Street on the 5th Jan and this was absolutely amazing live. As was the Pride of Petravore with Spider Stacey. Incredible
This is a beautifully melancholic, trance-like song. And I think you're absolutely right - although my interpretation of it is probably more pessimistic. I'm middle-aged now, and I feel that this says more about the generation younger than me, who have to come of age and get by in a pretty bleak world.
My God lads this is a beautiful one. The crescendo build up too! Love it. So looking forward to getting the new album. Hoping to catch you in the UK sometime soon too 🙏☘️🖤
ive been a wee nerd fan for a whiley, but this song is so needed right now....thankyou. i wish it werent a thing that needed discussing, but music soothes and smooths over the scars of it and i commend your bravery in dusting off out in the open..... makes us better humans, and friends. thankyou.
I've been looking every day for a new release on the build up.. I remember seeing this song live in London two nights in a row and it's amazing to hear it again.

Gosh! What a truely remarkable line...
When the young people dance
They do not dance forever
It is written in sand
With the softest of feathers
Yes - very poetic. I feel it gets at both the beauty and sadness of life
Happiness, youth, moments lost in time. Sparks in the darkness, fading to be obscured by newer, brighter lights. It is the darkness that makes them shine so brightly.
Beautiful song. I m 74 . I know .

Wow, just amazing, grabs your heart like few songs do.
A gut-puncher of a song. Excellent stuff - yet also draining. At one point it sounds upbeat... yet you can't escape the lyrics.
Very unusual very sophisticated musically. That shadowy, threat-filled pace and rhythm combination with human voice harmonies is like something from a world of hypnosis and dreams. Very unusual.

Genuinely curious as a CptHotknivesfan, how did he bring you here?
This song hits home in many diff ways.. absolute poetry.. beautiful ❤
It really was the shoes. The shoes broke me. Shoes that took you over 2 cities, but didn’t bring you back to me.

Bawling. What a bloody song. Jesus.
Just watched the tommy tiernan show perfomance , what an amazing brilliant song 👍👌👑

Any song that gradually and forcefully fills me with joy is ok by me.
Very thankful Hozier shared this
Found this through him too💕
You beautiful people. Thanks for existing.
The mood of the Irish captivated in song🍀🍀🍀🍀
I feel it to be the anthem of a generation. Just my opinion but it speaks to me that way. Fills me with nostalgia and feels like a requiem for my 20s.
