  • Featured is the game between Vasyl Ivanchuk and Veselin Topalov from the 1996 Novgorod Tournament. When two dynamic players meet, the game is almost sure to be exciting. The opening is a Sicilian Defense: Scheveningen Variation, Classical Variation. The focal point in the game is the weakest square in black’s camp, f7. This game is a nice reminder of how this weak square can still be weak after the opening phase, and after castling. Outside of the beautiful and accurate attack by Ivanchuk is a dash of humor with his 27th move.
