Morozevich’s Unforgettable Fantasy

- Featured is the game between Alexander Morozevich and Viktor Bologan from the 2004 Russia Team Championship. Starting from a Caro-Kann, Fantasy variation, the players eventually reach an opposite sides castles position. While Morozevich pursues an attack on the kingside with his bishop pair, Bologan looks for active play in the center with his two knights. The end position draws our attention to the value of Morozevich’s 6th rank pawn, and leaves us with an unforgettable final move due to its flash.

Morozevich was my favorite player back then. You could always count on him to fight and play for the win.
Guessed all the pop quiz moves! Very pretty game. Thanks Jerry.
Congrats 👍😎
I was thinking hxh7 instead of Be5
Fantastic choice and I'm getting to be a huge fan of your insight. Thanks! Your voice, pauses, and patience is a great teaching style!
Thank you for the compliments. 👍
Great! I want to mention that Bologan is also a very creative player. So this two guys gave us a really good fun. Great analysis as always.
You made the point earlier about the knight pair being better than the bishop pair when there are a lot of pawns on the board. So what does white do?
Gets rid of the pawns; that one continuation with the queen sac taking the pawn being the extreme example of that.
Very pretty indeed. Thanks, Jerry.
Yes when you have a bishop pair open up the position
Very educational game! I found the Qh8 instantly with the correct continuation. That queen sac on e4 was stunning - that one I didn't see. Morozevich is one of those players that I would like to study in the future. Thanks for the game analysis! Cheers!
Quite a stunning game, thank you. As a Caro-Kann player, very instructive
Thank you Jerry, always wanted to see you make a video about Morozevich, truly special player who didn’t like to play simple games, but always tried to create beautiful attack and chaos on the board! Can you make a video about his famous games vs Anand and Vashier Lagrave?
Do you mean that old game he played with Anand in Moscow?
Where Morozevich opened with Kings Gambit ?
That game is 🔥
@@zeezmusic7245 exactly, what a game that was
A lovely finish by Moro. Thanks for the analysis!
Thanks for your uncanny unearthing abilities, Jerry!
Nice. I play the Fantasy a lot against the Caro-Kann so this was very instructive for me. Good work, sir.
Love this video. I always play the fantasy when I face caro kann. I learn a lot from this video
Great to hear. 👍
Jerry's videos always a entertaining and instructive appointment
What a shocker for the winning move - well done.
What a beautiful game!
Wow what an awesome game. Best chess channel on youtube. Thank you, Jerry.
Fantastic game, variation, checkmate and commentary. Thank you for the video
I love these kind of videos Jerry. Anton2 is proud, throwing granola bars at you :)
Jerry, it felt like you took a long break there, but we’re glad you’re back! You’re almost posting too much for me to keep up!!
I remembered the finish. Good fun, thanks Jerry
Like others have said, Morozevich was my favorite player decades ago. Seemed fearless, and always wanted beautiful, attacking chess. Alas, didn’t want to work 8 hrs a day to better his game one degree more. I wish he would have.
Jerrryyy please upload blitz or bullet chess tournaments you played in!! They are so fun to watch!
Wow Jerry, you are really spoiling us with all these uploads! Always a pleasure to watch!
Love the Fantasy! Super fun response to the CK! 🙏👍🏽🎉
Fantastic ending! I know I couldn’t think of it.
Beautifully played
Very instructive. The game and presentation alike. Well done, sir. Keep it up!
A checkmate with a pawn is literally irresistible...
great analysis! super fun game to watch.
Wow that was great analysis. Loved it. Got the Queen to h8.
Beautiful game. Beautiful finish.
Wow, Jerry! Another excellent video! Thank you so much!
You find us such hidden gems ^-^
Really enjoyed, thanks
Beautiful indeed
Very nice excellent explanation. ❤❤❤❤
A very sharp game, way too much tension for me!
just the perfect way to start my day off
amazing game
If you like the Fantasy/Maroczy Variation, another great recent example of it (chock full of tactics) comes from a pair of Georgian GMs, Paichadze-Pantsulaia 2021.
More Morozevich!
lovely
you're the best, Jerry!
1:52 and then white said "no talking, we're in the middle of a game"
Thorn pawn. Also sometimes referred to as a fawn pawn (when occupying such relative squares).
such a neat mate.
Pawn is the most elegant!
Hi Jerry. What was wrong, after 23. QB3, with 23…KN (rather than QN)-B4? The protection of square h7 is redoubled with this move . It puts the “zero” Knight into a useful defensive position, because if BxN, NxB, and White has the same problem again, only now without his light Bishop.
Nevermind the blunders it's an exciting game ❤
By the way, this is in the line you suggested wear black plays Nf5 to defend g2.
what a ending
Everything is fantastic about this video except the ending Jerry. The bishop is flashier!
Must mate with the pawn!
At 11:45 that isn't mate. Black could push the rook up 1 square and the whole thing would crumple. Right?
There's the rooks on the d file!
Yes. More chess 🥳
❤
Pawn takes queen for checkmate is some other kind of nasty 😂😂
👍🏾
Anyone know what happened to Morozevich?
He's playing Go now
But if 24. Bxf5 removing the N, doesn’t that win, because if black retakes white has mate, Qxg7? Maybe I’m missing something - just watching the video, not analyzing the position on a board.
at 6:23 wouldnt that result in an en passant?
Hi Jerry.
:)
As always best game ....😂
Reminds me of that Isreali cheater Tal Baron using engines in his fantasy variation games
Absolutely cannot stand these super locked up positions from black. I really need to learn how to deal with them and open things up.
I just accidentally touched dislike. Im so sorry!!! You are great Jerry!!!!!! Huge thanks for what you do! -random gtr teacher guy
No problem. You can click like and it’ll change. Thanks for the compliment 👍
Botez Gambit final move!
First
16:11 Pawn, of course! I never want to sully my pieces if I can send a pleb in!
Thank you. As you said: I took a thing or two away 🤺♟️
👍
