It's interesting and I liked hearing about this, since I remember seeing that artwork leaked online back around 2009 or so. But I can definitely agree with the comments saying that it was canned for a reason. It might have been a good game in its own right, but it really was not Kid Icarus which, ironically, is what I remember people saying about the leaked artwork even before all the details in this video came out. I think this is one situation where reality was better than what could have been, since we probably wouldn't have gotten Uprising had this been the official canon.
+chuggaaconroy It scares me to think that this might have been what happened to Pit and the Kid Icarus franchise instead of uprising. And thank you chuggaconroy for helping me find that gem of a game with your let's play!
+chuggaaconroy Agreed. All the same, what little was developed of Factor 5's vision is fascinating. Having a more mature Pit WOULD be a natural leap from the NES game's character, as he's matured along with technology. And keep in mind, Kid Icarus had only two games from way back in the 8 bit era (one of which wasn't even released worldwide), so there really wasn't anything to go off of as far as tone and personality were concerned. The only thing that would've made Factor 5's interpretation of the character as being 'not Kid Icarus' is Pit being aged up, but we should also keep in mind that titles mean very little, especially when the Japanese name of the series doesn't include any references to youth.
12:58 - 13:23 Pretty much sums up why this never happened. It's not like having your own ideas is wrong at all, but when a company "recommends you to use their model" it's because they want to keep that image, sure it can have some minor revisions but not an entire overhaul. I mean, look at that model, it doesn't look like Pit anymore, he needed to look like the SSBB one, because generally those models are taken from their games, and would make no sense whatsoever. This would have been a good idea if it was it's own thing but not under the Kid Icarus IP, but personally, Sakurai approach of the game is definitely the right one, he really nailed for what Nintendo wanted the franchise to be.
+Blester that's kind of the problem, Nintendo wants what Nintendo wants. They rarely ever let their developers, internal or external, to try and do something creative of their own. If it doesn't fit Nintendo's predefined mold, they won't allow it. Although about once every 5-6 years or so, Nintendo will allow something out of their usual comfort zone, last time was Bayonetta 2. It would at least make sense if they were always consistent with this, but they are not, and a core franchise of theirs is never allowed the treatment of course. Metroid is really their biggest franchise that they allow to go in a more mature direction, and that is because that franchise has always been mature. Though with Federation Hunters, Nintendo is even tainting that franchise. Bayonetta 3 will probably be Super SD and rated T for Teen if Nintendo had their way.
+downphoenix i hope with this new prez they got, they will change their stancr on online, development creativity, etc. buuuut, lets hope dont dont take it too far. look what happened to konami and capcom. there is always a middle ground and not many see it.
Reoko77 Capcom seems to be turning it around with their latest releases, we'll see what happens with Konami, hopefully Nintendo doesn't fall so far like they had though.
+Blester I also think it had to do with Factor 5's experience with Lair, I recall reading from its reviews that the game was technically impressive, but was lacking in gameplay aspects like game design and control, which Nintendo prioritize above all. I don't think Factor 5 not using the Pit model provided by Nintendo would be the main issue they had with Factor 5's vision of Kid Icarus. Nintendo might have tried to be polite and just say that their vision was deemed too mature or different from what they had in mind, instead of just saying 'Your demo kind of sucks'...
This is why western don't like working with nintendo. Goldeneye 007 and the multiplayer part wouldn't exist if nintendo had it own way. During development of goldeneye 007 nintendo gave money but stop funding the project when they started to see bug and glitches and during the beginning of development nintendo told rare not to include multi-player. lucky ceo of rare was able to finish it by paying from their own pocket and rare programmer secretly added multi-player. Rare ceo didn't know about it after the game was release. Same with conker bad four day nintendo was against M tittle so they refuse to publish the game rare again had to spend it own fund to publish it. Maybe cuz all those funds that ceo had spend for nintendo they had to sell their company.they gave nintendo option to buy their talents and nintendo refuse and Microsoft brought them. Nintendo went and brought retro studio over rare which I honestly think they weren't as good as rare were. Nintendo don't like westerners and they kill rare.retro is also dying half of the staff left retro after they finished metroid trilogy many say they gotten bore doing the same thing over and over they don't have the freedom to pick or to do.
Dead channel shut the fuck up that doesn't make sense just cuz the game is called kid icarus doesn't mean he can't be an adult and it's not called kid pit so just stop lmao. Adult pit would be cool.
Well you really can't blame Nintendo. People posting Subspace Emissary scenes without giving credit. I really like the 3DS's Smash Run however. It contained so much stuff from other franchises.
To be honest, I'm kind of glad this project was canned and Sakurai took charge to make a Kid Icarus revival instead. This just seemed too tryhard for a property as simple as Kid Icarus.
Skylar Rauscher Shut the fuck up there's nothing tryhard about that. You make no fucking sense do you even know what tryhard means? Working on something has nothing to do with tryhards lmao. It just means you have to get good you stupid fuck. Stop spreading bullshit.
Eh I am glad we got Uprising instead. Although maybe Factor 5 should have saved those ideas and turned it into their own IP just try to make it not look like it would have been Kid Icarus.
Okay, here it is. Put it on a grid from 1 to 10 of how awesome it sounds: The game will give more depth on Pit's past and him struggling to overcome the fact that he and Dark are the only angels in existence. The main villain and the new Master of the Underworld is Necross, who plans to rid the world of all Gods so that darkness will be the ultimate source of power. Other than Pandora and Thanatos returning, there are more villainous commanders, like Slurk a giant humanoid scorpion and the Underworld's top spy. Pit will no longer be the only playable character as others (Magnus, Dark, Phosphora even Palutena(!)) join him to save the world with new friends(Riptide the merman, Aljex the scout raised by animals, Razi the werewolf and the mysterious Daedalus). The first chapter is basically a tutorial/diet with a Guttler running amok in Skyworld with Pit having gained weight after the demise of Hades. There's even a big tearjerker with Daedalus and Pit realizing something together: Daedalus: You're alive. Pit: _Dad?_ Daedalus: _Son._ The Space Pirates return after rebuilding their Captain with a gorilla-like appearance. Some of the bosses involve sliding/tapping the stylus to the right direction. There's even a chapter where Palutena gets an idea where he sends Pit back in time to kill the Chaos Kin after past(!) Pit destroyed the Lunar Sanctum. The Three Sacred Treasures are revealed to not be destroyed, but scattered.
Nice, i like the fact you are really ecited about the idea, KI community need to be more excited and united, i will give it somewhere between 8.2 to a 8.6, i didnt get the first part dark pit was created after Pit so there wouldnt be a lot of things to see between them (if i goti it right) i would change it for how Pit became the captain of Palutena´s army, the idea of darkness taking over light kind of reminds me to KH but it fits pretty cool as Palutena being the goddess of light, there should be a god of darkness which is pretty cool, the introduction of new characters based on the original greek story sounds good, the retunr of the space pirates is even cooler, they could try to get revenge and destroy pit and Palutena, multiple playable characters is something i support 100%, it would be cool to play as the goddess of light (viridi too) nice! i think there are somethings that could be olish or i didnt understand haha. Thank you for sharing it with me :)
I'm real glad they went with Pit being adorkable. I even have ideas on a future game. does anyone want to hear them? If so, then please like me. I'm lonely. (points at teardrop)
Everyone's already said their piece about what they did with Pit and the story, so I'll say that even despite all of that, the gameplay sounded like it could have been fun. Seamless, free-form flying would have been great to see in action. There's always something to learn or take away from these cancelled projects, good or bad, and I think their ideas for gameplay being lost to time shouldn't be completely ignored just because they weren't really thinking with the story and characters. That said, it was really silly of them to change Pit so drastically, especially right after he was just redesigned for Brawl. MAYBE their ideas for Pit could have worked if their game released before Brawl, but it didn't, and I imagine it would have been jarring to have three different designs of Pit to associate the character with (the original, Brawl/Uprising, and Factor 5's)
This is absolutely fascinating. It's rare to hear about any sort of canceled Nintendo projects in this sort of detail, and even rarer to hear much about the correspondence between Nintendo and a third party dev. (The last time I heard this much about that kind of thing was Nintendo and Rareware!) I think it was really interesting, but also pretty sad. Factor 5 has seen quite a bit of rejection and cancellations, and this one.. I think it was cancelled for a reason. Even though they did TRY, they totally lost sight of the original story and feel of the Kid Icarus series, even though Nintendo tried to nudge them back into the right direction. I think, on its own, Icarus could have been an amazing game if they had focused more on the plot, and well, made it their own game rather than a reboot of Kid Icarus. I think Sakurai's game, Uprising, did the job a lot better, and modernized it beautifully, while making it more mature and dark, without making it, well, edgy. I'm not a game developer though, so all I can really say is what I think, ahaha. Still, what an interesting look into the development of a rare game. It can only make me wonder how it would have done critically if it ended up coming out.
I'm glad Nintendo cancelled Factor 5's dark and gritty take on Kid Icarus. It's just too far removed from the source material to really fit the franchise especially since Nintendo had by that point already established what Pit should look like in 3D from his appearance in smash bros brawl. In a way it's kind of a shame that Factor 5 couldn't fit it into Nintendo's stylistic framework as their expertise in flight combat games could have made for a game with excellent aerial combat at least. But I'm glad that Sakurai rebooted the franchise with Uprising on 3DS.
I wish we could've seen an actual trailer for it. I'm glad we got Uprising instead though. I think this was a good learning experience for the developers though. Western devs have a tendency to think things need to be more dark and mature, but it doesn't always prove to be worth it and this is a good example of that. I hope the devs will apply this to their future projects in the studios they're now in after Factor 5 went defunct.
+BriHard I wish so too, but there was never a trailer created for the game. The prototype is all there is left to uncover, although I wasn't able to do this because it is said to have been sealed away in a vault some years ago.
I meant I wish they had made a trailer. That's what I was referring to. But yeah, I understand. Thanks for the video by the way. It was really interesting!
I'm now just simply not accepting any abusive comments about my dialect/accent. I can't help the way I talk, unfortunately, so grow up and cut that shit out otherwise you will be blocked.
Galactic Specter "It's the Internet" is not a valid justification for outright racism in some cases. There is a difference between trying to be funny with little jabs, and some of the comments I've had to delete today.
Really fascinating! While the ideas are interesting and I love some of the artwork, I'm pretty happy with Uprising. Still, it would've been interesting to see such a drastic re-invention. Shame it was another cancelled project for Factor 5. Thanks (as always) for the investigative work/video Tamaki! =)
+OniLink99999 Thanks! I agree - it was very interesting, but you can clearly see why it never happened. I will have to uncover more of Factor 5's first party Nintendo projects. This was not the only "dark" take on a Nintendo series they were planning.
Um, I don't think I ever said it would have haha. Naturally, a game being light or dark doesn't make it inherently better or worse, and after Uprising I think that Kid Icarus works better on the lighter, more comedic side of things =)
Awesome as always, Liam. honestly I feel like if Factor 5 would've just stuck to the model Nintendo gave them, maybe tweaked it to make it older looking, but still kept that storyline, that could've been a really great game on the Wii. What a shame. Also I miss Factor 5 and the Rogue Squadron series. That shit was some of the best flying physics ever done in a video game.
Wow, their version of Pit just feels so... americanized. They were right in that they missed the point. I'm not sure the game would have been any good with wii's gimmicky controls but it sounds interesting.
It's a cool concept but I feel like we have enough gritty reboots of older franchises. We don't really need EVERYTHING to go that route. It's a fun thing to think about but I'm glad they went the route they did with Uprising.
+carmen a. gonzalez rios *Okay, here it is. I loved Uprising to death, and that probably wouldn't of happened if this had actually launched. So I'm glad this didn't pan out. That said, this does look pretty interesting.
You know what? Good for Nintendo! While we here in America are still stuck on the Dark Ages (AKA the 90's), where everything has to be so dark and serious and dramatic and gritty, Nintendo refuses to follow the trend and do what they want to do. I have so much respect for them and their refusal to bow under pressure to follow the mainstream.
To be fair, the 90's were awesome, and it has nothing to do with everything being dark and gritty. That's not what the 90's were about. That's just the unfortunate path that Americans have taken with their entertainment, especially with video games.
So that Pit from Factor 5 is basically Kratos but less violent and redemption seeking angel and not being a violent demigod who kills everyone with his trademark blades
This was interesting! Some ideas were pretty great and I like the art, but still Uprising is decent. Plus, I wasn't digging Pit's adult redesign or with the tattoo. I wish to see this more but it was cancelled. Thanks for the info, Tamaki! :)
This video was great, keep it up. Although... those developers wanted to turn Nintendo's angel into a rogue/renegate/edgy/adult-oriented character, that's gotta be the most literal case of "You had one job" I've ever seen.
+Igorcastrochucre well I liked the idea. He would've been Kid Pit at first, and then an adult later on. THey did that in Ocarina of Time with Link, and people love that aspect of the game
I'm not saying I'm against the idea, but this was going to be Pit's first game in decades, but out of all of Nintendo's characters, their angel getting a dark reboot didn't seem like the way to go. Or maybe I'm just upset they spent too much time focusing on that rather than the game itself which really stopped the game from happening.
Igorcastrochucre Yeah, I feel like this idea could still be cool if Kid Icarus Uprising Pit had more game installments, THEN we bust out him having to become an adult
No wonder this project got cancelled...If a company sends you a model to make a game with, they probably want you to use that model. I still would have liked to see this prototype get finished, though. Not as a Kid Icarus game but at least something.
Nintendo gave Factor 5 a model to use?! I hope they realize in retrospect, that usually when Nintendo dislikes a game idea outright, they can it right then and there. "Tableflip Miyamoto", y'know? It's relaly unfortunate... Factor 5 was really talented, but it seemed like they lost something after Rogue Leader. Or maybe they let the success of that get over their heads and made them lose their perspective on their relationships with 1st-party studios.
"Man Icarus" actually looked and sounded pretty cool, it's really too bad it never came to fruition. Some of those adult Pit designs look like Chrom in #FE though, that's a really weird coincidence.
I feel like taking this concept, making sure to not make it too serious, giving pit a better adult design (maybe similar to that white clothed red tattoo wearing one which actually looks pretty good) keeping a bit of the tone of Uprising despite having a more serious story, making it so Palutena had a good reason for banishing Pit (maybe she was under someone else's control), and keeping that "start as younger Pit a progress to adult" idea would all be good steps to make sure it fits better. I think something like that could make a good Uprising sequel. If only Factor 5 still existed to make it. Maybe someday Nintendo will get someone who can make a game like that.
+LREHAnimation same and then the fact, that my mom bought Ki:U for me because i wanted a game for my newly 3ds I got for my birthday 3 years ago but didnt saw one I liked and I wanted a game (I didnt came to the shop for nothing) thus choose one with a character on it that i knew from SSB Brawl. And now it is one of my favorite games ever (it was faith ;p)
Im actually happy we got uprising instead of this because it would probably be forgotten and it seems too gritty for the original idea Also we would never get our sweet Cinnamon Roll Pit
That's pretty interesting! I liked what they were going for but then again, if this didn't get cancelled, we wouldn't have gotten Uprising which is a great game. It's interesting to think what could have been though. Thanks!
I think there were some interesting ideas in here, and I think some people should realize that this was just pitch ideas, early prototypes, and overall concepts; not anything resembling a finished product, but I don't think this would have ultimately worked out and it makes sense that Nintendo said no. Granted, a Kid Icarus game with a strong emphasis on flight isn't too big of a stretch, Factor 5 is exceptional when it comes to flight (If you guys don't believe me, play the Rogue Squadron games. In fact, even if you do, play those games if you haven't already; they're amazing), and they really had only two games to work with as far as lore goes. However, with so many conflicting ideas about how the game should be, it would be very hard to make it work. On a side note though, about that test animation of Nintendo's Pit model fighting that creature. At a cursory glance, I thought it was the Spider Wasp from Lair. However, upon hearing that it was from the cancelled Turrican game they were working on around that time (not to be confused with Turrican 64/Thornado/Thornado GameCube, or Manfred Trenz' Turrican 3-D), my mouth hit the floor (figuratively, of course). I would love to hear more info about Project Cyclone as I still think Turrican is a franchise that needs a 3-D incarnation. Primarily due to the kind of exploration in those games. Probably won't happen officially, but I wouldn't be surprised if a fan game came up that took that direction one day.
Oi man, can the "Palm" weapon class in Uprising be a nod to the tattoo he could have or the dark magic arm? I know it's a bit farfetched but I don't really see another reason for them to put that weapon class in Uprising. It's basically fighting with tattoos. Also, that dark magic arm that was slightly talked about reminds me of the Cursed Palm. Or it could just be a really vague concept used twice.
When you mentioned that they were given the Kid Icarus model as a "suggestion" and Factor 5 did not use it, I knew that was the end lol. Nintendo does not just give passive "suggestions"
Very informative, the editing covered what was necessary to illustrate the explanation and screw "accents". I understood what you meant and learned some interesting trivia and that's all that matters to me. (:
I like the idea of an aged Pit, but I can see how Nintendo could be insulted by the adult Pit's design. It looks very gritty, in a way that would require new designs for both an older and younger version of the character.
Your voice is great Liam its my favourite British accent - and I live near Manchester, and cheers for telling me yet more information that I didn't know.
A free flow from ground to air combat does sound really awesome. I don't think their visual designs simply wouldn't really work, but I would've liked to see a fast free aerial combat on Wii.
When you make a game that's not a mere fan piece, but an actual furthering of cannon, you don't simply ignore the creator. That's what happened here. This wasn't a throw away piece of story, if the game had happened it would be taken as diffinative cannon, and having Pitt be blatantly at odds at his ruler and friend, something they wanted to keep a character you wouldn't have any ire towards, it was going to be damaging to the ideal view of the series and characters. You don't just ignore a creator as mentioned. That's not your job unless you are the new owner. They were not. Factor 5 showed it could represent worlds well, particular on it's flying levels. But taking a license and creating a lore shifting progression, I don't think they would be asked to do that again.
If you were the IP creator and the owner was pushing on you, I could understand a bit of rebellion. But when the IP owner and company of it's creation both are telling you where it should go, it's not your job to ignore the likes, it's your job to honor it. Especially when they're looking to keep a cannon project.
Never thought I would be happy a concepted sequel didn't make the cut. Uprising really has a unique and joyful character to it So yeah Really glad it didn't happend
Concept sounds promising. I like the dark vibe the Icarus reboot would of gotten if factor 5 got the okay to make this game. It would of been interesting to see pit fight mature looking enemies. I'm hoping they salvage that protype and make their own IP, this gameplay style they were going for sounds like fun. However the artstyle kinda turned me off :/. Still got a great game in the end despite what happened. Uprising is probably my favorite game directed by Sakurai.
It's a shame that Nintendo didn't go for that, or at least didn't try to rework it to fit more with the Smash incarnation. It seems like it would have been a unique Wii game with an interesting control scheme.
+Walther Penne in 2011? while the Wii wasn't pulling in the same numbers as earlier years it was still outperforming the PS3 and only slightly trailing the 360. Nintendo didn't completely stop supporting the wii in 2011. they released many games such as Skyward Sword and the Project Rainfall games that year. they were still manufacturing new Wii systems up until 2013 and at the end of the day it is the best selling system of that generation. hell games are still being made for it.
Talk about not "getting" what makes a Nintendo game. Hate to say it, but Factor 5 had it coming. Gamers would have been pissed if the series took such a weird direction.
+Igeljäger He had already started to get fans again because of Brawl. Making another new design for the next game would have been confusing. Gamers are very picky and you know it.
+TalesOfGamerz I agree, after people got used to the Brawl design and then see this dark, edgy version they would be just weirded out. I like the idea of him starting out as young pit, but then if would be even WORSE having him turn into his older design and show the radical differences. It would be like having a crash game suddenly have crash become older with black clothes and tatoos to make him more "serious"
Finalblue1234 Crash Bandicoot? He did get tattoos in the later games. lol Imagine if Link got tattoos and ran around all buff and shirtless. Yes some people would probably dig that. But it would just ruin the characters for me unless they always looked like that. I don't believe in this immature way of thinking that mature = all men have to be muscular, have tattoos, beard and smoke and shit. That's what you think is "cool" when you're 12. It's something we've really gotten stuck in here in the west. I hate it. I mean they even changed Pit's mouth on the 3DS cover art in the west to make him look more serious and angry. Ala Kirby's angry eyes. COME ON! That's stupid.
+TalesOfGamerz i think if it's a slow, methodical change, (like Big Boss from MGS3 up to Phantom Pain) then you can make a character darker as long as people saw it coming. but just changing it instantly pisses off alot of people, like with Dante in DmC
dude. your voice is very clear, understandable and i had no problem with it and it made me enjoy the informative video even more. keep the fantastic job up and fudge the haters XD

psychokinrazalon It would a huge leap for a mature game, but having Pit switch designs immediately from brawl to this would be a bit weird imo.
I'm glad Pit ended up still being the dorky cinnamon bun we all know today :D
We love him so much.
Yeah, the other was creepuy

gonzalez187187 It’s only his opinion...
I would prefer adult Pit being similar to original Kid Icarus, to be much more serious than Uprising. Remind me of The legend of Spyro.
@@peepsg too bad we got peak instead of *shadow the icarus*
the 3ds kid icarus is probably my #1 favorite game on the platform. I keep hoping they'll make another one...
Sakurai said he won't touch the series again. So it's up to someone else to make it.
And the what's worse than that is the he believes that NO ONE ELSE would touch the series either!
This is a really good video and you did are really great job on this.On a side note, so glad this was scrapped and we got Kid Icarus Uprising instead.
+Hunter Wynn Me too... I didn't like those Pit redesigns... But the story for what they were planning for the game was good
+Hunter Wynn me too
Now that I tried KIU, I just cant imagine Pit being all dark and serious instead of his bubbly personality as we know now
+Gloria He I just wish Smash Bros 4 Wii U had a story mode that wasn't all... Final Fantasy 7-ish, in terms of darkness and grittiness.
+PK Rockin Ω the game would've had kid pit become an adult, who was banished from Skyworld, that at least to me, was a cool idea
Skylar Rauscher Shut the fuck up there's nothing tryhard about that. You make no fucking sense do you even know what tryhard means? Working on something has nothing to do with tryhards lmao. It just means you have to get good you stupid fuck. Stop spreading bullshit.
I actually like it more to see this than uprising. It would remind me of The Legend Of Spyro
The Icarus gives me the bad Shadow the Hedgehog vibes.
Eh I am glad we got Uprising instead. Although maybe Factor 5 should have saved those ideas and turned it into their own IP just try to make it not look like it would have been Kid Icarus.
The quote from the guy at 12:52 basically summed up what doomed this project.
IM REAAALLY GLAD Masahiro Sakurai took KI, WE NEED A KID ICARUS UPRISING SEQUEL
+l3a3n31 And the fact that I have ideas for it, you want to hear them?
Martyn McMurray Sure man!
Okay, here it is. Put it on a grid from 1 to 10 of how awesome it sounds:
The game will give more depth on Pit's past and him struggling to overcome the fact that he and Dark are the only angels in existence. There's even a big tearjerker with Daedalus and Pit realizing something together:
Daedalus: You're alive.
Pit: _Dad?_
Daedalus: _Son._
The Space Pirates return after rebuilding their Captain with a gorilla-like appearance.
Thank you for sharing it with me :)
l3a3n31 Thanks.
I'm real glad they went with Pit being adorkable. I even have ideas on a future game. does anyone want to hear them? If so, then please like me. I'm lonely. (points at teardrop)
yea I wanna to hear 'em
Yes!
Icarus= Kid Icarus meets Devil May Cry
Doctor Ace Bayonetta would love icarus
Feels more like if Kid Icarus meets God of War or DmC: Devil May Cry.
A dark Pit sounds like a silly idea.
…
wait...
* Is still waiting for a sequel to uprising and an anime series *
This reminds me so much of a Bomberman: Act Zero. This could have been a disaster.
If I could like your comment more than one time, I would.
BossPanzer act zero was crazy but this game i feel would be kid icarus x Bayonetta
x a bad game
It reminds me of the DMC reboot.
10:52 wait thats the cartoony one?
10:55 JESUS THAT'S EDGY
OW THE EDGE
Now that's what I call edgy
Cut myself on all that EDGE!
+Uncle Squid Kid nothing wrong with being edgy
To some extent there is.
A Kid Icarus game where Pit was an adult would've been pretty interesting, especially if it was done similar to Ocarina of Time.
+Galactic Specter But...isn't he an adult in kiu?
+Doge of wisdom no, he is ageless.
+billy schmied Are you sure?
Doge of wisdom pretty positive
+Doge of wisdom he is a a teeneger in ki:u no an adult
The plot of this is almost exactly like my idea for kid Icarus Switch. Excluding the gritty part
But I'm glad that Sakurai rebooted the franchise with Uprising on 3DS.
unstoppableExodia Sakurai no doubt knew about f5 prototype and while Nintendo did tell him not to make this , Sakurai liked some aspects.
+Haruhi Suzumiya oh I did not know that
look what happened to Bomberman when it went serious... Just doesn't compute.
+Duck on Quack Thanks!
I love your accent though. It's soothing.
I love your accent though. It's soothing.
for what it's worth I find your voice soothing to listen to
Really fascinating!
Can't wait! =D Honestly, I'm surprised Nintendo even considered the idea of a "dark" take on an existing series.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad this never came to be.
+I Hate Video Games Yes, because i have some ideas on a future game. Want to hear it?
+I Hate Video Games Do I even exist?
+Martyn McMurray I want to hear it
+carmen a. gonzalez rios *Okay, here it is. Put it on a grid from 1 to 10 of how awesome it sounds:*

it sound awesome I give it a 9 , I hope nintendo don't forget about this series I really wanna see more games in the future
Pity it never got off the ground, but at least Uprising was a blast.
Dante would have been a more accurate comparison. Dante from Dante's Inferno though, not Dante from Devil May Cry.
For the next Kid Icarus game, they should take some ideas from this.. but not too much. That would be very interesting and cool to see.
Kid Icarus by way of Devil May Cry? I'd be up for that.
Kid Icarus could've had a "Jak 2" continuation! 😂 This is gold!
You reminded me that iv'e been
wanting an Icarus game for more than a decade now
This was interesting! Some ideas were pretty great and I like the art, but still Uprising is decent. Plus, I wasn't digging Pit's adult redesign or with the tattoo. I wish to see this more but it was cancelled. Thanks for the info, Tamaki! :)
+~ {BlueScore) ~ No problem. I'm glad you found it of interest!
+Tamaki I sure did! Thank you!
this is like when the shrek studio asked fob for an opening song and they deadass made bang the doldrums
CADDICARUS! If they only took the model Nintendo sent them and made it darker, they could make it mature withouth losing the games identity.
Some of these costume designs should be used for a Kid Icarus Warriors game lol...maybe Dark Pit will get banished somehow...
He could rebel against Viridi if their goals went in different directions.
I agree with that guy who said "we were missing the point". Cool story, though
What a great video. Amazing job, man!
+Phoenix Wright Thanks, Mr Wright!
Holy shit. I just found your channel and I've been binge watching all day.
I hope they make a sequel to Uprising one day.
***** Or a home console version,
***** Im so buying the NX if it does.
***** Sexy Dark Pit in HD OMG.
No wonder this project got cancelled...If a company sends you a model to make a game with, they probably want you to use that model.
I still would have liked to see this prototype get finished, though. Not as a Kid Icarus game but at least something.
The character they are describing is basically Magnus in uprising and the plot it’s very similar to the chaos kin arc.
On one hand, this would've been interesting, but on the other hand... We wouldn't have gotten glorious Palutena with this edgy remake.
Disgusting, really. I'm glad Uprising went through and this one didn't.
+Boo Destroyer Ikr?
Great vids, mate! Subscribed.
I'm an intense Kid Icarus fan, so this video was amazing to me. Certain parts made my heart stop and gave me chills.
+LREHAnimation As a big Kid Icarus fan myself, you're exactly the type I hoped this would reach! It is my love letter to the fandom :D
Really great Video!
I hope you've got more such Stories to Cover, those are extremly interesting!
Im actually happy we got uprising instead of this because it would probably be forgotten and it seems too gritty for the original idea
Also we would never get our sweet Cinnamon Roll Pit
That's pretty interesting! I liked what they were going for but then again, if this didn't get cancelled, we wouldn't have gotten Uprising which is a great game. It's interesting to think what could have been though. Thanks!
Nice concept, would have love seen it finished, besides that, great work as always man.
Doesn't anyone want more I NEED a new one!!!!!
As much as I like Factor 5, I wish they did more.
Unfortunately they are like... what? Defunct?
This was an interesting find though.
+Cosmic - Chris Factor 5 hasn't existed for about 7 years.
Liam Robertson
That is sad... I really loved the Rouge games.
On a side note, I never expected you to respond to me.
I think Nintendo should make a kid Icarus game with an adult pit and have game styles based around the devil may cry and bayonette games
...I think it's probably for the better this never came to light. Although that basic plot summary about a mysterious banishment is really cool
I guess those designs could be where they got the idea to make dark pit/pitoo
+Hamius Bowcus it think they got it from smash
Kid of War Icarus
God, Kid Icarus Uprising is a great game.
Wish we had this too though.
You done did it again, Liam. Great video :D
I like the idea of an aged Pit, but I can see how Nintendo could be insulted by the adult Pit's design. It looks very gritty, in a way that would require new designs for both an older and younger version of the character.
God I love Kid Icarus Uprising. I’m so glad that’s the game that came to define Pit and not this one.
I remember when these rumors were floating around. "Man Icarus" was what the crowds would yell.
is it bad that i would actually play a game called "Man Icarus"?
Yes, I'm afraid it's terminal. We need to operate immediately. Nurse! Bring me the drill!
Woah this game looks so incredible! I'm way more interested in this than the final version
I love how it sounds for me like you are saying "Fucked up 5"XD. No racism, pure lighthearted laughs :D
Criticizing how someone talks is not racism. >_>
your pro pic looks like a regular show character. I love it!
Your voice is great Liam its my favourite British accent - and I live near Manchester, and cheers for telling me yet more information that I didn't know.
+Stelios78910 Thanks! :)
A free flow from ground to air combat does sound really awesome. I don't think their visual designs simply wouldn't really work, but I would've liked to see a fast free aerial combat on Wii.
Fantastic video... I love Factor 5 and I think I really would've liked the idea for this game
canceled games seem to be the coolest games. Animal wars sounded amazing.
That actually sounded like it would be a pretty cool plot.
I think this game could work in the future if they decide to make more kid icarus games, but when the game was revived not really.
For all the flak it's gotten over the last 10 years or so, Nintendo is sharp. Turning this game down was a good call. Great video!
So yeah, I'd say you'd be wise to agree with me as you do. But I have to say I'm partial haha.
The way u say Factor Five is funny because the auto-generated captions make it really hilarious
Never thought I would be happy a concepted sequel didn't make the cut.
Uprising really has a unique and joyful character to it
So yeah
Really glad it didn't happend
Concept sounds promising. I like the dark vibe the Icarus reboot would of gotten if factor 5 got the okay to make this game. It would of been interesting to see pit fight mature looking enemies. I'm hoping they salvage that protype and make their own IP, this gameplay style they were going for sounds like fun. However the artstyle kinda turned me off :/.
Still got a great game in the end despite what happened. Uprising is probably my favorite game directed by Sakurai.
Kid pit becoming Young Adult Pit sounds like an awesome idea, I hope Nintendo does this some day
Icarus looks so good though I really like the adult look for Pit
im really happy this didn't happen to say the least, uprising is a masterpiece and we wouldn't have likely gotten it if this went in to fruition.
These feel like there a TV show on history channel or something!! I love it!
In an alternate universe this game is on Outsidexbox's list of the gritty reboots that were trying to hard
Ok but a grown up pit and a darker version would be amazing. Imagine that mixed in with the dialogue and characters from uprising...
It's a shame that Nintendo didn't go for that, or at least didn't try to rework it to fit more with the Smash incarnation. It seems like it would have been a unique Wii game with an interesting control scheme.
+Walther Penne The Wii sold over 100 mil.
"Dark re-imagnings" of a fun, cartoony property. Right. I'd forgotten that was all the rage in the late-00s. Bleh.
Talk about not "getting" what makes a Nintendo game.
Hate to say it, but Factor 5 had it coming. Gamers would have been pissed if the series took such a weird direction.
+Holammer who exactly would've been pissed? Nobody cared about Kid Icarus back then. I personally never heard of the franchise until Brawl.
Finalblue1234
Crash Bandicoot? He did get tattoos in the later games. lol
Imagine if Link got tattoos and ran around all buff and shirtless.
WOAH. I'm so glad they decided to make the game more light-hearted with non existed fourth walls.
