- Kid Icarus was always one of my Favorite 3ds games, and I thought it deserved so much more attention. In this video, we explore the history of the series, and how everything derailed against it's favor.

Kid Icarus' fate was sealed as soon as it was brought back by a guy who hates making sequels.

Well, at least they remembered it enough to give it a reference in the Mario Movie. In the beginning, we see Mario playing the original Kid Icarus in his room.
Have you noticed the F-Zero poster & Arwing figure? The F-Zero poster was behind Mario’s bed & the Arwing figure was on top of Mario’s TV.

Well at least Mario is a fan of all 3.
2 others I could think of that we’re missing are Murasame Castle & Fossil Fighters.
I mean, Hades did jokingly say at the end of Uprising that he has 25 years until the next sequel to figure out how to come back, and seeing as it's only been 12 years since then, we can't really expect much in the meantime.

Sakurai was only part of development for one game and like you said, didn't even realize he would develop using Kid Icarus as an IP in the beginning. I don't think the series necessarily dies with him, just that you need some other people willing to follow suit.
Man, I don't need a sequel. I'd just love Uprising to come to Switch with more comfortable controls

same here dude, i’d be content just to see Uprising reach today’s audience and get the big ass cult fanbase it deserves. I just know so many people would fall in love with this world and characters, if only they were able to play it themselves.
I think the series is done as far as Sakurai making more is concerned. But I don’t think Kid Icarus, as an IP, is necessarily done for.
Reminder that there is some evidence that Factor 5 worked on a KI game which was canned. Nintendo could entrust the IP with any other production team, especially with Sakurai pretty much retiring from gamedev.

A remake of the original is highly possible, Sakurai doesn't need to be around for that. It's just not a high priority for Nintendo to do.
A sequel is super unlikely though. It's not just because Sakurai, but the contracted voice actors, music staff, art staff, and more were all a once-in-a-lifetime team.
It's huge ask to get half of these people for a sequel, let alone Sakurai.

When I was watching this, I thought "I am probably watching a UA-camr with a high number of subscribers and views". Your pace, editing style, script, and personality were all on par with channels that have high-production videos. Then I looked at your views and channel and said "No waaaay"

I know, that is easy for me to say. I will be honest with you. If every video is as well written and edited as this one, there is no reason why you should not make it.
This video you made is clearly the result of years of hard work. You don't get to edit like that, and say the things you said unless you carefully watched the best UA-camrs and understand what made their content effective.
I can imagine all the long hours of editing and the constant revising you did to bring this one video to this level.

Just keep 1 thing in mind:
UA-cam is also a job. And, like any other job, it is tiring and often times makes you feel unrewarded.
As long as you respect that aspect of it (and respect yourself while you go through with this) you will be fine.
If you are serious about UA-cam, then grind grind grind grind.

As someone who just started playing this game, you have no idea how much I've cried and grieved this game after finding out its basically the only one that will ever exist😭
Nice to see another person talking about Kid Icarus. Here hoping for a port to the Switch 2 or a new entry.
Being fully honest, though, Uprising is a perfect swan song for the Kid Icarus series. It's rough around the edges, but it still feels like a great love letter to the series.
I'm afraid of what could happen to Viridi, so I'm okay with not getting a sequel.

If I remember correctly, I think I bought this game the day it came out. It has been my favorite game ever since. It feels weird being 37 years old, and saying that a mobile game is my favorite game ever. Seeing as how a guy made a sequel to a franchise that wasn't even his own is remarkable
Kid icarus uprising was a fantastic game if it ever get a port or sequel i’ll love to play it but I hope to see future games that plays like uprising ether a indie or group company that use kid icarus uprising as one of its inspirations l

I absolutely love Kid icarus Uprising People keep comparing the main character Pit with Sora from Kingdom Hearts! Sora and Pit even had a deathBattle!
I don't want a sequel to this. I just want the remaster to Uprising. This series doesn't need any sequels, spinoffs, or revivals. Just a clean, upscaling, remaster.
I tell ppl that this is one of my fav games that I ever played ever since I was a kid, but no one knows about it and me tryna explain it is not doing it justice lmao. Would be crazy if they dropped a new switch version of the game or sum, but if this game was a PC game or sum the potential would be crazy for visuals and etc, but that realistically wouldn't happen ofc.

From a lifelong Halo fan, just be happy that Kid Icarus ended on a HIGH note. It is easily one of the 3DS's best titles and it would be a shame if some other developer a screwed up as 343i took over the Kid Icarus franchise and wrecked it.

Also, since the Switch’s successor is rumored to be coming soon, a Kid Icarus Uprising remaster could be a good way to show off the system’s new graphics 🤔

Meh, the IP isn't owned by Sakurai. And I don't believe he even worked on the original or Myths And Monsters. If Nintendo ever wants to do a sequel, they can simply assign it to a different producer/team. And I believe that day will come, although it might take a while. Kid Icarus is a surprisingly strong IP considering it only has 3 games, mainly through Pit's long-time inclusion in Smash. Because it is such an iconic Nintendo franchise, a new Kid Icarus game is almost guaranteed to receive significant hype. The fact that Uprising is such a beloved game among fans certainly helps. The original game is a little hard to recommend nowadays I think, but I got the Game Boy sequel on the 3DS Virtual Console when that was still a thing and it's a REALLY good Game Boy game. You didn't tend to find a lot of depth in Game Boy games, but Kid Icarus had it, even more so than the NES game. It really feels like a big sprawling adventure. It's right up there with the likes of Gargoyle's Quest imo. Easily one of the system's top 20 best games.
while i would love for sakurai to make a sequel to uprising i don't know why nintendo wouldn't be able to make one without him unless they sold sakurai the ip and any project would need his involvement in which case he could be a producer with creative input without being the lead developer
I was just thinking of this game. I need to find my 3ds to play it this weekend. My wife is playing through AC Valhalla and I've convinced her that the 3 sacred treasures are in the game to defeat madusa lol

Good Video! Bean I remember hearing alot other video talk about of Kid Icarus and how it was a NES game later came to the 3DS and I hope the game get rerelease on Switch so I can play on the Go like on the 3DS all thought year ago.

I never played it but I hope someday i could on official hardware i hope someday the series could come back as a port/remake/squeal and from what i seen the story/dialogue is comedic and great it has too much personality to forget about. Some people say their should be remake but i also hope for a sequel. Hopefully it won't pull a ttyd and take 25 years as they said to be a sequel/remake (we have passed year ten btw).
And since there's rumors that sukirue is un retiring. And working on new games (and maybe a new smash bros. And a new smash bros means pulutanas guidance will return) there still hope

If sakurai doesn't want to do another one, I think the idea of From Software making a kid icarus game thats like nintendos own dark souls would be cool. It sounds like thats how the first game technically was

I don't think they ever planned to do a sequel for this game, if they had, they wouldn't have killed Hades in Uprising.
This game's got a whole trilogy worth of story in it, so chances are that they went all out specifically* to not have to make a sequel.

Well if I wasn't confused before about why sakurai choose Kid Icarus, I certainly am now. After the leak or rumor about nintendo talking to 3rd party devs for them to make nintendo games, one of the ideas I saw going around was that From Software should doing a kid icarus game. Confused at first but now knowing that the first game was hard and even punishing, I see it and honestly makes more sense for it to be semi souls like then an on rail 3rd person shoot. I mean he choose kid icarus instead of starfox? A series that is already an on rails and has an entry that is essentially what he wanted to make. He could have essentially showed the potential of the star fox serise being this on rail 3rd person shooter. Might as well add the fact that this game sounds sort of like a tech demo game for the 3D which is what nintendo unfortunately likes to with star fox. The one time they needed a game to demo a gimmick, the one time they had a gameplay idea that was an on rail, 3rd person shooter that plays perfectly with frickin sakurai being the one to develop it but wasn't Star Fox?? Now I'm not sure if I would want him make a star fox game if given the chance but not because he wouldn't make a great game but because he would be making kid icarus uprising but in the star fox universe with star fox characters.
Jeez it doesn't even help if that bandai namco remake doesn't end up being kid icarus but instead Star Fox Assault. People on the internet has mostly been talking about how its a sure thing that it's a remake of kid icarus uprising. Then it turns out to be Star Fox Assault, an on rail, 3rd person shooter. I bet people would riot about that.
History though has already been determined, he choose kid icarus for his 3DS game. StarFox gets to be stuck in the miserable time loop that is Star Fox 64.
Okay looking back I might have came across negatively. Ultimately we are more or less in the same position with us not getting a new entry since the 3ds or wii u. It's not certain if KIU gameplay could translate to switch or sakurai is ACTUALLY interested in making a sequel or not. At the same time miyamoto is wants to make a new entry for starfox unless he finds a stupid hardware gimmick and be lylat wars again. Hell, even the fact that both of us exist as largely being in the same genre. Either star fox goes to being a ratchet and clank style game with his smash moves or kid icarus gets that From Softwar dark souls treatment. Heck who will win the bandai namco remake remaster?
I hate to burst your bubble, but I wouldn’t consider Kid Icarus well known, and a million in sales is decent, but not good considering this game sold much less than games like Mario Maker 3DS
Perhaps if Nintendo made more KI games and did more with the franchise, then more people would be aware about the franchise and excited about playing the games. In turn, the KI games would sell more and KI would become more popular.
KI won’t reach Mario’s level of popularity and success overnight. Nintendo has to take time to build up the franchise more.
Imagine comparing kid Icarus to the face of all of video games, of course it won’t sell as well
