Excellent Actor...and his formal education in medicine helps vice a versa. I have seen Katkon Trikon 3 times, Astu (movie) and Ghashiram Kotwal in childhood (without much understanding then). He once again explained citing his Ghashiram entry that Acting is all about reacting (of others and for others). I must also say that contrary to few comments I have seen I adore the reactions of Madhurani as an interviewer....she accentuates the overall experience despite same questions to all guests. Keep up the good work! Thanks

मी रंगपंढरी च्या सर्व मुलाखती आवर्जून बघते आणि त्या मला मनापासून आवडतात. ज्यांना आपण काम करताना बघतो, ते त्याच्या मागे काय काय करतात जेव्हा ती भूमिका आपल्यासमोर येते, हे बघायला फार मजा येते. पण मला ही मुलाखत जमली नाही असं वाटलं. म्हणजे dr. फारच छान बोलत होते पण त्या अनुषंगाने वेगळे प्रश्न विचारता आले असते. ते pyschiatrist असल्यामुळे त्यांच्या ज्या वेगळ्या insights आहेत उदा. थेरपी मधले नाट्य ज्याचा त्यांनी उल्लेख केला, ते ऐकायला फार आवडलं असतं कारण अश्या insights इतरांकडून कदाचित मिळणार नाहीत. जर समोरची व्यक्ती बघून प्रश्नात फेरफार केली तर अजून मजा येईल.
Raagpandhari is doing a fine job of unravelling different aspects of the craft of acting. Its technicalities that can be learnt, finer aspects that get honed over the years with the progression of careers of fine actors, and those impalpable moments which almost alchemize themselves into metaphysical experiences transmigrating emotional lives of both, the actor and the character. The standard framework of questions helps bring technical aspects of the craft as employed by actors of different schools on a common denominator. However, the limitation of this format was evident in the interview of Dr Agashe and to an extent with that of Amol Palekar. For those iconic theatrical experiments in Marathi theatre, where the art form metamorphosed into a new way of experiencing and exhibiting life, the standard questionnaire became inadequate to unravel it. These were the path breaking creations where set boundaries of the art form were broken down and a new form of experiencing life was created. The questionnaire put down to understand traditional theatrical methodologies was found to be woefully inadequate to comprehend how these boundaries were broken down and horizons of understanding life were expanded. May be, that is the reason, Dr Agashe came across as almost dismissive and at times abrasive and impatient while tackling traditional way of looking at the art form. Because, he was one of those who broke it down magnificently. Amol Palekar was much more accommodative and sympathetic to the genuine passion of Rangpandhari to understand the magic that acting is. But he too went beyond that and explained how ' Gochi' created theatrical experience out of Samhita by breaking off the traditional art form, taking it to the abstract level, opening up myriad possibilities of experiences. Madhurani is doing a fine job in developing rapport with the interviewees and opening them up to explore layers of their craft. But finally, the attempt seems to take a look at the art form through the lens of 'acting' with the presumption that that's how the theatre tries to evoke and transmit experiences. It will help creating and enriching the curriculum of "acting". It is the primary and dominant way the form works. But in the parallel world, where the form is broken down (musicals, communions where a group of actors co-create experiences by almost eliminating their personalities and then coalescing them to create an abstract form of sounds, movements, lights, colours, and music to put search light on the intended cross section of reality as it is prevails), the format of Rangpandhari's questionnaire is failing. Congrats for the fine effort and looking forward to many more episodes with fine actors like Sumeet Raghavan and also the evolution towards understanding how this performing art changed its form, primarily in the Marathi theatre, to unravel mysteries of that shapeless thing, the life, to which the Man is trying to give meaning from times immemorial.

You are absolutely right that exceptionally rebellious and almost iconoclastic proponents of dramatic arts like Mohan Agashe sir or Amol sir cannot and should not be force-fitted in a template of pre-meditated questions. In pursuit of documenting every actor's end-to-end creative process from role selection to final performance and beyond, we may have become a little too mechanical at times and that's certainly something to reflect on and improve. Our belief was that an adequate the degree of freedom has been provided to cater for diversity of views and each person's unique approach and experience - because every guest was encouraged to freely use any examples from their personal careers. Would a totally free-flowing conversation help instead? Would it become too nostalgic, long-winded and lacking focus? Perhaps, yes. Would it be less insightful and have fewer takeaways? Perhaps, no.
