    bracing my core is what caused my herniation.. overhead press with heavy weights .. braced my core to "protect" my back and felt a pop.. 2 months ago.. still have bad sciatica and have gone from exercise nearly every day to basically nothing.. it's not that I cant exercise.. it's just that every day living is far more exhausting when in chronic pain.. I will try do more from tomorrow.. thanks for the motivation.

    We just need to listen to our body. If something is hurting , just stop it that's all. Don't overdue things because you already injured your discs,so save what's left. And try to progress step by step. Like you've been born again.Let time heal your body. That's what I've learned from 3 years and more of real pain and agony (barely can stand,sit or walk like a human being,7days/7 - 24h ,depression and thinking about suicide even 🙈) May God heal all Sick people from this illness .🙏

      It’s frustrating to live with that pain. Right now I’m suffering a lot, I can’t walk right, I loosed my balance and I’m trying to walk slow but my mind got used to it to walk fast. I feel useless and every night the pain comes back. I’m crying every day asking why me?? 😢😢

    Constructive video feedback:
    Pros: great content, knowledge, clear speaking, understands the patient's condition, great use of props for explanations, good speaking flow, digestible knowledge, very positive and uplifting
    Cons: too intense (be more human), feels like an info-mercial, too many flashing visuals, too much "foreplay" (just get to the content), uses "alarmism" and "speaking in absolutes" too much (you "MUST" do this), sometimes repetitive, could be shorter; aim for 4 minute video, one minute for each point
    Overall: 7.5/10!
    Nice video, great advice. Thank you!

After sciatica I get back to my normal yoga practise. With all that forward bending. I've just been more mindful and councious. Pain in lower part came back lately and I found you! And after a week of quite normal excercising is so much less painful.

    I work in construction and while pushing a heavy bag of insulation foam, i felt like a tear or pop or dislocation at or near my spine, i can't really remember, but after that I'm in serious pain, it hurts when i do anything. I was so upset because it was not that heavy, I felt like improper posture caused this or probably overuse of my body. I went to the doctor right away and he tested my balance and my legs strength, he said it's probably muscle because the tests are good. I still worked the day after in light duty, and now after 48 hrs, it got better, better mobility but it still hurts in some movements, so I don't know if it's disc herniation or just pulled muscle because it's at the middle of my back. I felt slight tingling on my left foot this day but it's too light. I found your videos and it made me feel better, because I'm really scared and overthinking about it sometimes.

  • @thomascampbell7407

    If had severe sciatica for 8 weeks now. B4 I started watching YT videos I was bending forward touching my toes (maybe not a great idea?), leg stretches, and lateral stretching all while in a lot of pain. What I’ve found is that moderate movement in all areas seems to be healing, but that I may have initially injured the herniated disc more than helped while doing those bending forward movements. I agree with most of what SSWellness is saying here, but I also think that the title of this video may be detrimental to someone just learning about their injury, by causing them to complicate a fresh injury. I also think that patience should be stressed as it is probably the #1 reason that people give up and wallow in pain instead of pushing through. At least that’s how I feel sometimes about my circumstance… sucks, but this one takes months to heal. I’m praying for everyone out there that is in pain. Just know, you can get thru this. It’s going to be uncomfortable, but you will make it, just don’t give up.

    • @ShapeshiftWellness
      @ShapeshiftWellness  3 місяці тому +1

      100% agree! The title is meant to poke fun at the running theme in rehab where we are taught to avoid so many things. My point is that avoiding things is the problem, we don’t need to live in fear! It’s meant to criticize the common fear based narrative. Hope it helps!

My shoulders rotate well now, no tension headaches & neck hump miraculously going down. All feels better. I was though feeling too tense with walking, trying to keep my core braced. Colonoscopy, cystoscopy, intravaginal sonogram, pelvic sonogram (done in the hospital). Literally everything else has been checked. The only finding was the “mild” l4/l5 bulge. Thanks a lot for this video. I love it.
    Listening to your video now, I can clearly see the things I should have avoided for my back pain.
    I was in a rear end car accident and had a lot of back pain afterwards. I was diagnosed with withplash and with strain and sprain in my upper back and lower back. I had great pain in my lower back and pelvis and felt like my spine was moving freely without support all over my back. My back felt very very weak. Healing was difficult for me, I had a lot of pain and I was very afraid. But when I started doing small back exercises and stretches, I healed step by step. Spine stretching exercises have been a real help for me. Staying in bed to heal was catastrophic. I added a stronger routine after a while and now I feel beter and I can easily do heavier exercises at the gym.

    I have a bulging disc, and the doctors say it’s serious and may require surgery. However, I don’t feel pain in my back. The pain starts in my buttock and the back of my knee, but only after walking about 30 steps. It’s been 8 months, and not being able to walk has greatly affected my life. The pain is intense, but what confuses physiotherapists is that I only feel it while walking. I can do other movements, like yoga, without any issues. I’ve been trying dry needling and physical therapy, but I’ve only seen very small improvements since the pain began. I still can’t walk without pain. Should I keep doing physical therapy, and how long should I wait before considering other options?

    Hi, I have been to the hospital three times and I suffer from a lot of back pain. Two out of the three times were due to climbing. At one point, my back made a clicking sound and then there was a lot of pain and I couldn't move. In the hospital, moving me was the worst pain in my life, but if i dont move i didnt feel pain only preasure, My question is, do I need to stop climbing? Is it good to use something to press my core when I do sports? Are there any exercises to prevent this from happening again?

      This is the type of very specific circumstance that can only be answered with a consultation. Generic answer is that for most of my clients with chronic back pain, we are able to work towards being able to do the things they love safely. It's how we get there that matters.

    I have a disc herniation, and the pain is getting much better. But the pain now has turned into a sleeping leg feeling down the sciatic area. It starts at my right butt cheek, then everything along the trail below feel very asleep. Like a painful askew feeling. That happens even from just walking. I’ve been trying to ignore it and do some walking, but I’m not sure if I’m doing damage?
    I don’t have pain in my lower back. I haven’t really had any. But my sciatic nerve and all the way down to my foot and toes is where the problem is still occurring right now. Any advice?

    In 30 mins of watching your videos i have a much clearer understading of my siatica and what to watch for in under doing and overdoing.
    I really hate the F******* stretching, movements are more helpful for me i found the pain going to the lower back than down the leg with upper body movement than stretching.
    Thanks for the advice and straight to the point approach.😁👍

    I get the keep moving but. Im a contractor moving is my life. I messed up my back 2 months ago the pain was so bad I had no strangth to sit up so sharp having to walk leaning to the side. Holding my breath to even try and squat. So sharp and stinging and burning. No core strength laying down just a little wiggling send sharp.pain.
    Had injections and it really helped. What to do to help prevent this.

      I’ll be honest here, manual labor jobs are tough to work around here, because in these cases there’s no chance for recovery between periods of physical exertion. Like if I gave a patient an exercise plan I could have them do heavy exercise every other day and rest and recovery and rebuild their muscles etc. In between. Can’t do that with manual labor jobs, so rehab gets really tricky. Somehow we always need to “calm stuff down, then build stuff back up.”

    • @ShapeshiftWellness
      @ShapeshiftWellness  Рік тому

      Glad it helped! Pain is very unique to each person. I usually assess pain in terms of severity (scale of 1-10), but also function (what activities can you do, what can you NOT do).
